Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I'm going to review this from two perspectives; First, The Santa Cruz perspective: we have very few choices for non-mexican dining experiences and Toscanos isn't a bad choice. Prices are reasonable, portions adequate and service is friendly. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. They have an outdoor area that could be very nice if they were to develop it. The menu is kind of big, close to 50 choices. Toscanos bills themselves as an Italian restaurant but there are many non-Italian main dishes and appetizer's on the menu, such as hummus and corn chowder. You can see their menu here toscanosrestaurantes.com… . Expect to spend around $14 per person not including beverages. Second, the Chicago perspective: Chicago is well known for its many mom and pop dinners throughout the city. Many of them were started by Greek immigrants and offer huge menus and include Italian favorites. Toscanos reminds me of this type of Italian food (the giveaway: nutmeg). If you're from the Midwest, you get it. So that being said, here's what we ordered: My wife had the Salmon Glaze Aromatizado, she said it was good even though it was slightly over done. It looked good on the plate. She also ordered a dinner salad. Both were served at the same time. I'll chalk that up to a rookie mistake on the serving staff, not being trained on timing the meal properly. I had the Chicken Parmigiana, it was way overbreaded and very well done. It came on pasta that was also overdone, and the sauce was your typical Greek-style red sauce. So let's take a break here for a moment while I clarify a couple of things. This restaurant is owned by the same family that runs Toscanos in Nogales, Mexico, so there is definitely a Mexican influence here. Not in a bad way, no overly spicy jalapeño stuff. Well not in what I had anyway. What I mean is that everything is going to be well done. Mexicans prefer it that way and Toscanos, like all businesses needs to accommodate the local preferences. We also had the hummus-- very good and the zucchini with chipotle sauce. Yeah I know, again think about where this is. So all in all I would give it a second try and would recommend it as a dining option. As we were leaving my wife noticed they had Chopino, arg, I would have ordered that.

What a wonderful place! It's hard to spot, so once you head south on N. Grand off of Mariposa, it's on the west side of the street...maybe 100yds. if you've reached the car dealership you e gone too far! Anyway, great decor, cute outdoor patio, decent bar, and amazing service. Dulce was our server and she was A-mazing. I travel a lot and know good service...believe me when I say that she provided me with the best service I've had in a very, very long time. Attentive, professional, knows when you need something without hovering over you. She made great recommendations for dinner and dessert. I'm not big on sweets/desserts, mind you, but these were wonderful. super light cake with homemade whipped cream and fruit. We ordered the Strawberry and Mango versions. Delish. The espresso was more like strong coffee than espresso, but it was served with lemon peel....like espresso should. If you're in the mood for a cocktail, their Blood & Sand was divine! Bourbon, Cherry syrup, vermouth, and a splash of OJ....I had 4! The house bread was tasty, as was dinner. I had beef tips in a delicious mushroom and onion wine sauce served with veggies and creamy mashed potatoes. This place has been open for 2 months and is family owned. This location is the family's 2nd location, the 1st being in Nogales, Mx and is run by 2 brothers. The menu is a fusion of traditional Italian flavors with American and Mexican influences. It works. The owner of the Nogalez, AZ location treated us to a house drink that's a jalapeño margaritas and gave us the background of the place. It's very warm, inviting, and all around awesome. ps. they offer live music (not overbearing in the least) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday...he even offered to provide is with music out in the patio on our next visit. I wish more places were like this. The owner and staff are proud of what they have here and they have every reason to be. We will definitely be coming back for sure. Specials: Lunch from 11-3 are $10 with drink. many to choose from. Mon: 2x1 pizza after 5 Tue: 2x1 appetizers after 5 Wed: Lady's night, 1st drink Free! Thu, Fri, Sat: Live Music Happy Hour 5:30-8:00 Sun: Kids 8 and under eat free (pizza and pasta)

I really enjoyed Toscanos Restaurant. I was seated quickly and a waiter went over the beer & wine list with me as soon as I sat down. The place is decorated very nicely and definitely has an Italian feel to it. There was live music playing and the servers were on top of drink refills and making sure I had everything I needed. I really enjoyed the food. I had the Ravioli Toscanos which was cheese stuffed ravioli served in a white wine sauce with shrimp & mushrooms. It's great to have a different selection of food options in Nogales other than Mexican cuisine. Toscanos is a great Italian restaurant worth checking out if you're in town.

Only come here if you are interested in not eating and for TERRIBLE SERVICE. jWe arrived at 9pm the waitress wouldnt bring us a menu and took her forever to bring us water. Once she provided us with menus we didnt receive food 1hr later...we left 1040pm....it was supposedly busy but everyone else received their food and people that came after us were eating...im sure this place will close down..we never even received napkins or silverware...when we asked the girl for some bread 20 min after ordering shes says "oh you want like for yourself?" We were 10 people and got a small basket for the entire table. It was my brothers graduation night and they partially ruined it.
