Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

I just love this place and every time we go there I feel like it just gets better! I love that they deliver, I love their chop suey, the kids love the orange chicken and my boyfriend says they have the best hot and sour soup he has every had. Just a really great place!

Just "ok" about sums it up. As a Chinese food fanatic, I wanted to love this place. But I just didn't. On the plus side, the portion sizes are HUGE! Easy to squeeze 2 or 3 meals out of a single order. But on the con side, the food is "meh." I ordered the firecracker shrimp after seeing it got good reviews. It looked phenomenal. I was also pleased that it came with bell pepper and onions (I hate that so much Chinese food is just meat and rice with no veggies). The shrimp are also really large, which is a nice plus. But the taste is just so-so. It certainly looks better than it tastes. In trying to describe it, I would have to say it just tastes...salty. That's it. I also ordered the "summer rolls" (i think others referred to them as spring rolls, but the employee corrected me). Again - another case of looking better than it tasted. I mean, they were 'ok", but certainly nothing special. The most disappointing was the peanut sauce, which just tasted like....water? I don't know - it really had no flavor at all. It was also really runny with just very few crushed peanut pieces in it. I'm glad I finally got around to trying this place because I'd been eyeing it for awhile. Maybe their Vietnamese/pho is better than their Chinese, but for my future Chinese cravings I'll be hitting up Chopstix right across the street. Same price (or cheaper) for MUCH higher quality and tastier food.

First time here so I tried a few things: a cup a won ton soup that was more like a bowl was fresh, flavorful and tasty. The spring rolls were huge and had a perfect mix of flavors. Ate one and took one home. They were huge! Finally I had the beef lo mein. It was hot, had a good mix of flavors. The beef was lean and tender, the noodles were perfectly cooked. I had to take half of the lo mein home as well. I highly recommend this small place for solid Chinese food.

I should preface this review by saying that I'm not a Chinese food fan in general. I ordered food from Mantis because I wanted a rice dish and didn't want to spend a lot of money for it. We ordered Summer rolls - they are small, about the size of a roll of quarters. The taste was ok, not gross. Chicken curry - the flavor on this was more like Indian curry (which I don't like), not Thai curry. It wasn't as bad as most Indian curries I've had. I knew this one was a gamble since it's a Chinese food place after all. I wouldn't say it's terrible, just wasn't what I was looking for. Snow Pea Beef - it was good, but not amazing. I prefer the beef cut a little thinner and the sauce thicker. General Tsao chicken - this one was good. I have eaten at one place in Mesa that makes it better, but the cuts of chicken are definitely superior at Mantis. Orange Chicken - good flavor, good chicken. Can't complain. My kids liked it. They didn't skimp on the rice (thank you!!!). I did delivery and it took 50 min, so carry out is probably quicker during the busy dinner hour.

This place is amazing. We always get the pork chow mein, but have tried the other things like the Mongolian Beef and General Tso Chicken. Haven't tried anything we don't like. Delivery is always very quick and the food is always fresh.

I came here a few weeks ago with a friend and his family. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. For Tucson, the setting was quiet and the food was plentiful. In particular, I ordered the General Tsao's chicken with some chicken egg rolls. Although I've had Tsao's chicken at other restaurants, I was impressed with the chicken and especially the zesty sauce. Others in the group ordered the won ton soup dish which had the right combination of flavor, vegetables, and won tons within the assortment. The other dishes mainly consisted of pork and chick ordered en masse, and these did not disappoint either as they were well cooked, tender, and complemented the rice well on this occasion. Also, the service was excellent and receptive to any questions regarding the menu/special items to explain the nuances of unique dishes. Overall, due to the lack of quality Asian food options within the area, this could be a spot revisited for me in the near future! ambiance 5/5 authenticity 4.5/5 food quality 4/5 service 5/5

Delicious food! They have really reasonable lunch specials too! So far it's my favorite in Tucson. I always get the sesame beef with fried rice

I love me some good Chinese food, and this place is great! I eat there at least twice a week. The quality is always consistent, the owner (Vinny is his name) is very nice and remembers me. The lunch special is a great and tasty value, about 6-7$, but we often go here for dinner as well. Try the Firecracker chicken, it's amazing! Delicious and tangy!

I have been here and taken out at least ten times. I have never had a problem with their food. I tend to always order the Firecracker beef and it is amazing. My husband always orders Firecracker chicken. While I have to admit that one or two times I ordered, the food was not as "saucy", that is my worse complaint. The food is always hot, fresh and the portions are huge! The lo-mein is good and so are the egg rolls. Their won-ton soup is also delicious, especially after I've had my braces tightened and can't eat anything else (adult braces... ugh). I'd also like to add that I have never had any intestinal discomfort by this food. Which is saying a lot as I have a very sensitive stomach and can get upset easily. Hope that helps someone!

Best Chinese food in the northwest of Tucson. You can't go wrong with any of the spicy dishes the lo mein noodles are fantastic they have this shrimp bun noodles that are to die for. I would be surprised if they had a microwave to cook anything. There saddled with a poor location if they had a great location they probably be millionaires, so can you tell I'm a fan!

Great shrimp fried rice. Nice Viet egg rolls. Called order in about 5, hot and ready when picked up 20 min later. Lots of shrimp. Looks like small busy attentive kitchen. 1st visit. Would recommend and will return for Pho.

Best Asian food in Tucson hands down. It's a small place ideal for take out but you can sit as well. Usually we get take out but the food is ridiculously good. We been to other places around town and nothing compares food wise.

I always go here when I get the chance to eat out. The food is great and their customer service is fantastic. I only wish they were in a larger building.

Great little spot for authentic chinese food. They also serve some Vietnamese. Good prices great staff.

I have ordered so much take out from this place and have never been disappointed.

Staying at the La Quinta and they delivered to our room for a $1 delivery fee Food came in about forty minutes from ordering online. Chicken fried rice is mediocre, I've had better and I've had worse. A little hard, which is unappealing to me. The sesame chicken was absolutely fantastic. Off the charts. I like quality white meat chicken, and this is beautiful chicken breast chunks in savory sauce! A+ for the sesame chicken. The honey walnut shrimp looked awful, but my husband said it was pretty good. I wouldn't try. Just about used an entire jar of mayo on my one order of shrimp. GROSS! The lo mein was simple, and good. A big hit with my young children! I would likely not order from here again. There is a ton of food though

This was a great value for the price! Super spicy and very yummy! Very happy family here!

I read the reviews before my son and I stopped in. It was 3:00 pm on a Friday. Just 1 other diner in this small restaurant. We ordered and shared th fried egg rolls and spicy garlic wings as appetizers. The egg roll were greasy. The wings were actually very good. I ordered the House Lomein with shrimp, beef and chicken. The dish looked and tasted of MSG!!! 7 hours later I had diarrhea. As did my son 10 hours after leaving. Neither of us ate anything else since our meal at Mantis. We were both miserable with similar symptoms. We mentioned our experience to several friends and they all were sick after eating there. Not sure what was the cause but DO NOT risk your health and drive on !!

We order delivery from Mantis probably 2-3 times a month. Their food is one of the best tasting Chinese places in town.

This is a great little restaurant- one of my favorite places to eat in the Tucson area. They offer great food at great prices. You can't go wrong with the house lo mein, sesame chicken, or firecracker chicken (or beef or shrimp). They also have Vietnamese dishes, such as pho. Plenty of great food to choose from.

This is my current favorite take home place. I call them on my way out of my work parking lot and it's really in the 15-20 minutes it takes me to drive there from work, off the Cortaro Rd exit. It's in the parking lot of Walmart, so it's a bit tricky to find the first time. You have to pull into to Gamestop subdivided parking and drive all the way around the parking lot to even see Mantis. They have twice the menu variety of other places i've ordered from. They have vietnamese cuisine and chinese dishes. So usually I order Pho Ga and War Wonton Soup with some veggie Lo Mein. With my routine pretty consistent, not long ago I asked what a popular chicken dish was, and was told firecracker chicken. So I added that to my order and it was fantastic! I've been cutting out meat and it was too good to resist. My next visit I ordered the firecracker shrimp, which was even better. The interior is a half wall dividing the kitchen from the dinning area. It's a small place so I guess that's OK; very casual with a TV constantly on. (No thank you) I can't get my husband to eat there since it's not appealing inside. However, when I have a long day at work, it really is easy for me to call in and pick up. Plus they have Family combo meal deals and freebees if you order certain dollar amounts to go.

Yes. Five Stars. Never a disappointment. The people here are really nice and have heart and passion when it comes to making good Chinese and Vietnamese meals. They use a REAL wok with and fresh veggies-- every dish tastes different. If you are looking for a typical Chinese buffet with heat-lamped food that's been sitting all afternoon, don't bother coming here my friend. It's all cooked to order.

So, I'm in town on business and I always read reviews when I'm traveling for good delivery Chinese/Asian food. Yelp has great reviews for this place and it's close enough to the hotel that they deliver. I ordered the #95, no way I can spell or even pronounce the actual dish's name, but it's shrimp with peanuts, lemongrass and some other stuff on top of vermicelli noodles. Sounded good. Get the delivery and open it up. Looks really good. Came with a Vietnamese side salad and dipping sauce on the side as well. Very good looking plate. Until I start looking at the shrimp on top of the noodles. I see what looks like a hair. I think maybe not since some Asian spice powders/etc that I've seen and have used myself in cooking at home have sketchy looking consistencies. But I pull it out...definitely a hair. Not a huge deal, but I continue to look and find one more. Now the picture is disturbing. Continued to pick through the shrimp and found about 6 hairs of varying color from black to gray all in the shrimp in about 2 minutes of looking. Ugh. I have never, EVER called a delivery joint up to ask what the heck they plan to do about the situation, BUT I call them and tell them the horrible discoveries I have found. The woman was kind of speechless and passed me on to who I assume was a manager or owner? I repeated what I said and he asks if I was sure. Seeing I've had hair since I can remember I answer I'm very sure that I know what hair is. He asks if I want something else? I say no, a refund would be just fine. He said someone would be over shortly and then keeps talking on the phone about the hair and no idea how that happened. I said I just ordered it, his establishment made it and he should be asking the people making the food. After hanging up, I close the box of horrors and put it back in the plastic bag it was delivered in, expecting to give it back to whomever showed up at my door. Another guy (not the original delivery guy) shows up at the hotel room door. I try to hand him back the box of "food" and he begins to get agitated saying it was definitely lemongrass. I said it surely was not. Then he says "Oh, you just don't know what lemongrass is, do you? I cook at the restaurant as well and I'm sure what you found is just lemongrass." Now I was angry. Probably from hearing the "L" word too many times. I opened the box as he looked on, and began looking anew and in earnest through the "food". Five seconds later, I found a tasty specimen of black hair clinging desperately to an even more desperate shrimp. I pluck it from it's resting place, hand it to him and ask, "So, you're telling me that this is lemongrass??? Although you say I have no idea what it is, I don't think it looks like a black disgusting hair in my food!" First he looks a bit saddened with a low, "huh" escaping his lips. Then a pause. He then handed me my 8 bucks and starts to talk energetically (with no apologies included though) about how he doesn't know...blah blah blah. I again say that I just ordered it, his establishment should be investigated and shut down with that horrific of food preparation going on. Please avoid this place (or at least take a good look at what you're eating)

This place is AMAZING.....if u want to lose weight from terrible diarrhea! If u decide to waste your hard earned money here, then clear a path from your bed to the bathroom so at two in the morning u don't trip racing to the toilet! No joke, you will be taking a chance with your health. There are some good reviews, but that wasn't my experience or maybe they just ordered rice and water (but even the water tasted off). I have talked to several people since whom also have had a similar reaction and results! The decision is yours to make but make sure you have some Pepto and time off work available!

There's really nothing bad I can say about Mantis Gourmet Chinese Food. This is now our go-to Chinese food restaurant for when my wife and I feel that itch for some delicious General Tso's chicken or Vietnamese cuisine. In case it's not apparent, get the General Tso's chicken. It's the right amount of spicy with a maximum out of delicious. Even better, the delivery is fast and the price is right. For two meals (but let's face it, it's actually four given the portion sizes) and crab puff appetizers it was $20. Oh, and delivery is free. General Tso's chicken! (They don't have a website that I can find, so unfortunately the menu is only available as images on their Facebook page. But just get the General Tso's chicken.)

What is it with Chinese food in Tucson? It's never as good as it was out East. As far as Tucson Chinese goes, this place is pretty good though, I guess. We got the crab puffs as an appetizer. Back in the Southeast, these would have a crispy exterior, similar to an egg roll, and be filled with a sweet, crab-flavored cream cheese. The outer exterior here wasn't bad, but the inside wasn't sweet. (Sadly, that seems to be standard in Tucson.) However, they were better than other places we've tried. I got a small wan ton soup, and HOLY CRAP there was tons of stuff in it. Usually it's only the more expensive Wor Won Ton Soup that gets all the goodies. If they made a mistake, they certainly didn't charge me for it. My wife tells me the egg drop soup was fine. I got General Tso's Chicken as my entree. It was pretty good; not the best I've had but pretty highly-ranked as far as Tucson Chinese goes. My wife got the firecracker shrimp, which were also good. This place was also pretty cheap, which is definitely nice. It's not the best I've ever had but it's the best American-Chinese restaurant in the area that I've found thus far.

Awesome food, generous portions and totally affordable and I have left overs for lunch tomorrow! My girlfriend is a chef (very critical of dining establishments) and she had no complaints!
(4)Sarah F.
Great food for a great price!! Their lunch specials are so good, and you definitely get the most for your buck.

Had my food ordered and picked up. Came home and they gave me the wrong soup. Terrible. Make sure to check your food before leaving.

We LOVE this place! There are a few Chinese food places around, but Mantis is our go to place! We love their lunch and dinner specials. Fire Cracker Chicken is our favorite! Excellent crab puffs.
