The food was okay, but when you're in the middle of nowhere and driving for hours and hours, it tends to taste a bit better. Skip the potato salad and go straight for the fries. Service was superb. We had a party of 20 and our waitress was on top of her shit. Water was always there and I must've asked for at least 4 different sauces and they all came out promptly.

My mom and I stopped here for a bite to eat during a road trip from California to New Mexico. We ordered a BLT and a grilled cheese (each of us had half of each sandwich), and we both got the salad bar. Ok, so things from good to bad. Good: the BLT. Hard to screw that up. Not very good: the grilled cheese. Also hard to screw up, so I was even more amazed that it didn't taste nice. And finally, bad: the salad bar. I'm not even sure if it was fresh at the beginning of the day, but by the time we got there things were decidedly stale. Road trip food isn't usually gourmet, but even so I'd recommend trying one of the other diners.

Had the Southwest Scramble that had jalapeno bacon, succeed chili's, onion and cheese. I chose the seasoned fried potatoes which were tasty. Biscuit was big and fluffy and service was excellent. Your business is appreciated here!
(5)Tobias L.
It was a good Dinner and at Morning a good start in our day! Super frienfly and Perfect in all Points!!! Thanks
(5)James L.
I generally would give it five stars. I eat here every Sunday and our server is Judy normally but she's been out. Service wasn't the best my sandwich barely had and fries. The soups what a joke no one was touching them there best seller is the chicken noodle they haven't had that for a couple weeks now Sunday

We love the ambience and highly recommend their famous prime rib which was mouth-watering. We love their salad bar selection of dressings, toppings, and offerings, plus two types of soups which we enjoyed. We tried their new Cajun chicken and Alfredo Fettuccine served with toasted garlic bread which was well-done. Our server Vivian was friendly and helpful, especially when one of us preferred our steak cooked a little further. This place also sells self-served sundaes with plenty of toppings to choose from!
(5)Ron L.
Is this a pass thru steak place? I notice everyone saying this, even the people I visited here say that. At first glance, this place is withered by the weather. Inside is comfortable seating and service was great. Soups are fresh and home made. And the salad tasted really good. But I had a rib eye steak that was outstanding. Thank you chef for a job well down.

A most excellent stop on Easter Sunday as we traveled from the Grand Canyon to Los Angeles. There was a yummy breakfast and salad buffet that my whole family enjoyed. I ordered off the menu, which also came with the salad buffet. Portions were huge. Service was friendly. And we also got to meet the Easter Bunny!

I was driving back from Vegas. I got stuck in a snow storm and literally almost died. So I pulled into the Motel 6. When I woke up I saw this restaurant across the way in the parking lot. So I yelped it and called in a order. I ordered bacon, cheese eggs, hash browns and wheat toast. The cost was $8.00 everything was fabulous but I just want to shout out to cheese eggs. They were so cheesy and delicious. They were fast and the food was plentiful.

What a gem! When you stop in Kingman and need somewhere to eat, you have to go here. Sure you can get off the main at Stockton road and go to Chilis, Ihop and all the chains. But when you get off the free enroute to Vegas - take a left under the highway and explore the local stuff. That's what we did to discover Calicos. We liked it so much for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast has all the regular, hearty stuff, dinner has a buffet bar that changes. They also have a salad bar which is fun to find in this day when they all have seemed to disappear. Locally owned. Locally run. The food is so damn good. GO! You won't regret it.

Came for breakfast craving a breakfast sandwich. It's not on the menu , so I asked waitress and she went back to ask cook. She came back and said of course we can. It was exactly how I like it. Great service and great food.
(5)Suzanne S.
Hubby had the soup and salad bar and said the potato soup was fabulous. I had the chicken BLT salad and it was huge and very good. The kids meals were generous as well. The gift shop was quaint and perfect for a last minute souvenir or gift. I also had the pleasure of perusing this little informative book found on our table...
(5)Amy Lou H.
Salad bar and soup were very good. When I come this way again I will probably just have salad and soup bar, it was so good that I was full before my food came out lol. Service was good, good food, definately a good stop when passing through.
(4)Jeremy B.
This place looks nice and the wait staff are nice, but if you are looking for home cooked food you are at the wrong place. Fake mashed potatoes, frozen hamburger patties and a wilted salad bar. Please do yourself a favor in this part of a he world and get Mexican.
(1)Tricky Gene N.
Prime Rib was very good. Service was perfect. Very pleased.
(4)Cherie S.
Friendly staff and amazing food!! The breakfast biggest has anything you could possible want plus more for under $10!! And everything was SO good! Way better than Denny's down the road!
(5)Harmony H.
Best brunch ever! The hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict is to die for! The pastries and fruit at the breakfast buffet are also excellent.

Calico's is a local restaurant that we frequent often. Their salad bar is delightful and their Thursday, Soup, Salad and Sandwich bar is enjoyable. I have a favorite salad - Tangy Chicken Salad and always request additional Buffalo sauce. Love their fries. The servers are friendly and helpful. Visit when you come through Kingman...you will be glad you did.

My husband and I were on a day trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Our GPS had us change our route in Kingman. We were extremely hungry and unexpectedly came upon Calico's. The service was gracious and welcoming. The food was delicious and generously portioned. We enjoyed our experience and the food so much that on our way back to Las Vegas we stopped for a delicious and filling dinner at Calico's. This was such a great find!
(5)Nicole H.
I ate the cactus sandwich and it was awesome! I was not a fan of the potato salad, but the chicken pot pie soup was super unique and yummy!

Stopped for sandwiches (Scorpion) and pie (pecan and apple) enroute Phoenix. Friendly service and great food; however, the coffee was mediocre. Would definitely stop here again!
(4)Aimee J.
Very friendly staff, excellent selection in breakfast buffet. It's a great little restaurant for what it is. If you don't expect fine dining you won't be disappointed. I would definitely come back here in our travels.
(4)Sarah C.
the food has consistently been way below par. every single time, the food is not fresh, nor is it cooked well. i ordered a steak salad: the lettuce was rancid and slimy in places, every thing was cut very sloppy and the steak was raw. I asked for medium well. if someone tried to serve so much garbage in my house, they would end up getting set on fire. It's bland, lazy, soulless cooking like this that makes me despair of ever finding any decency in the food industry of this miserable hell pit. shame on all of you for endangering the public just because you decided to not give a crap.
(1)Julia R.
My husband and I came here for breakfast. Wasn't that great. We had the Sunday Brunch. The food was just so so. Small variety. There was ok service. There was one desert that was pretty good. Otherwise I wouldn't go back.
(1)Richard L.
It was good, but nothing outstandingly good or bad about the place. I'd rather go somewhere else next time I'm in town if only to try somewhere that might be terrific.
(3)Eric L.
Food is great. Place is nostalgic. Service is excellent. Recommended when going on Route 66.
(5)Pamela L.
This restaurant lives up to its allocades by other reviewers, and I am not sure there is much I can add. Our waitress was friendly and had a great sense of humor, but that would mean little if the food was not well-prepared and delicious. I especially enjoyed the presentation of my chicken breast salad and my husband's Reuben Sandwich was thick with corned beef. Both generous all round. The restaurant is located near a Motel 6. If you are staying there, as we were, it is nothing to walk across the parking area to it. When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a Route 66 themed gift shop. Great for those who are fond of Route 66 tchotchkes: I bought a refrigerator magnet of the Route 66 road sign. This is what I noticed: the people who work here seem to really enjoy their jobs. The environment is solid American decor with plenty of room, and comfort. I would certainly come back to Calico's...maybe for breakfast tomorrow.
(5)Dena C.
My family and I ate here for dinner last night and will never eat here again. The staff (waitress and an old lady that I think was the manager) were the most unfriendly people I've ever met working at a restaurant... Borderline rude. The food wasn't that great either. I'll never return.
(1)Paula W.
Nice restaurant, clean. We stopped mid afternoon on a Saturday. It would have been nice to have some background music instead of a baseball game. I had the soup/salad bar. The cream of cauliflower soup was outstanding, but the Ruben soup (tasted like mushy corned beef/cabbage) was a one-bite experience. The salad options weren't huge but were very fresh and good. My husband had the burger/fries, was a 4 out of 5. Service was great, but again, mid afternoon...not too busy. Prices were reasonable. We would go there again.
(4)Michelle O.
Nice clean restaurant, good food and great service. The Parmesan crusted chicken with pesto sandwich was very good!
(5)Rebecca A.
Service really friendly! Ordered the pan san - super big pancakes, would have been better but syrup was too thick for my taste. Eggs were cooked to perfection, I order mine over easy and most of the time cooks can't get them right but not here! Buffet looked beautiful but a little over priced for the amount I eat so bring an appetite if you order it. Decor is earlier 80s but clean for a freeway town.
(3)C P.
Good food all around and a fantastic Sunday Brunch buffet. My favorites are their steaks...low carb menu...country benedict ....eggs benedict and weekends morning $0.99 bloody marys and mimosas.
(4)Lana J.
We stopped here during a long road trip. This was a bright oasis in an otherwise long, stressful ordeal. The food was excellent, the portion sizes were extremely large, the service was exceptional, and the prices were more than reasonable...especially when compared to prices in California.

This place is SERIOUSLY a diamond in the rough. I could stop my review right here because that says about everything... but, I will give you guys the long version!! lol. We were driving route 66 on our way from Flagstaff to Vegas when we stopped at a gas station and were trying to decide where to stop for lunch. This lady at the next pump over suggested this place - she said it was the "best in town"...and that we couldn't miss it because it's "right next door to the Motel 6". Now, I am thinking, if this place is right next door to Motel 6, I don't know if it's the kind of place I wanted to eat, but we had no other ideas, so we decided to drive by and see. From the outside, this place is seriously nondescript - it looks boring and old and not quite run down, but definitely NOT a touristy spot or looking to attract new business or anything like that. BUT, as we drove through the parking lot, we noticed that every.single.license.plate was from AZ and that speaks volumes to me. We went in and the place is like an old Carrows or a small Dennys. Even the chairs are those old fashioned looking wooden ones you would find in an antique store... But, the service was great!! There was 8 of us and not only did they seat us very quickly, we got a lot of attention from our server and there was nothing that we needed that we didn't get right away. And - the most important thing - EVERYONE LOVED THEIR FOOD!!! I had a vegetarian Chipotle Black Bean Burger - which tasted "homemade" and was the best one that I had ever had!! Sweet potato fries were great. My dad had the BBQ Grilled Sweet Potato Fries - which were even better! My mom had the salad bar / buffet that was set out (they had biscuits and grits (!!!) and a whole big selection of desserts). The kids had a grilled cheese and mini corn dogs (off the kids' menu). Hubby got a turkey sandwich. My brother and his gf got a burger. Everyone cleaned their plates - and were stuffed when we left. No wonder - this is totally a "locals only" joint and we were so glad to get a recommendation (and glad we didn't leave because it was next to the high class motel - hahhaha). Stop in here - there is something for everyone and you won't be sorry!! (:
(4)Cathy B.
Quirky and fun restaurant for steaks and burgers. Brings back that nostalgic feeling of the 80's but in all the good ways. Service with a smile. They also will go out of their way to make you comfortable.

We were exhausted after 4 days of being on the road, and decided to have dinner at Calico's. We were pleasantly surprised in every way! The red wine was surprisingly good - and that is not just the road talking. They had a nice little selection for a diner-style restaurant. We all had a cup of soup next, which was homemade and had lots of flavor. We ordered the roadrunner sandwich, the el diablo salad, and the grilled chicken salad. The el diablo in particular was great - I highly recommend it. The roadrunner came with sweet potato fries which were delicious. Finally, the service was outstanding - the hostess had us laughing like crazy, and the waitress was extremely pleasant. I'd definitely go back to Calico's.
(5)Danny P.
I had breakfast here a few days ago and got the diced ham and scrambled eggs. Food wasn't super expensive but for the portion I got it just wasn't worth it. There was nothing stand outish about the service or the atmosphere. Probably won't come in again.

We stopped at Calico's on Memorial Day for a late breakfast, since the Roadrunner (which had better reviews) was closed for the weekend and we wanted to try somewhere we hadn't been before. It didn't look enormously promising when we walked in, but the food was surprisingly good and our server was friendly and attentive. The three of us ordered an Arizona Scramble (excellent!), cheese blintzes with strawberries, an order of biscuits and gravy and a short stack. All of the portions were absolutely enormous ... we could've done with half the food, to be honest, but we ate it anyways ... and the Scramble included a huge order of hash browns and toast (the hash browns took me by surprise since I didn't remember them being listed on the menu). The short stack definitely made up in width what it lacked in height ... those were some colossal-sized pancakes. I'm pretty finicky about my biscuits and gravy, but these were quite good -- the gravy was a good consistency and interesting-tasting without being overspiced, and the biscuit was fluffy and not too salty. Coffee was decent and refilled promptly, as were our waters. Bathrooms were clean and the lobby has a small selection of souvenirs for sale. As diners go, this is a good place to stop (and right off the freeway, better yet).

Calicos is not the most ornate restaurant. It's décor is a bit dated but the food is generally quite tasty. The salad bar is great with delicious soups and salads. They have burgers, dinners, sandwiches and on Sun a nice breakfast buffet. If you are looking for somewhere fancy, keep driving. If you just want good food, stop by Calico's.
(4)Cherelynn B.
My family dined here for a meal and will not be going back. It was quasi-dark inside, semi-clean and in general lacked a sense of freshness. Our food arrived cold, and the baked potato was not baked in the middle. The waitress had a less than friendly attitude. Coffee was old. The salad bar did have nice soup and semi fresh vegetables offered. It was expensive for bad food and lackluster service with each meal being about $17 per plate. 6 of us were dining that evening and 6 of us agree that it was disappointing. So I'm not saying it's bad-I'm just saying I wouldn't eat there again or refer it to a friend, or let my dog have the leftovers.
(2)Mike W.
Very good service, nice variety of breakfast & salad bar foods at the Sunday Buffet, pleasant atmosphere, inexpensive prices. We should be more enthusiastic but realistically, we know now that Kingman isn't the 'go to' destination for Sunday Brunch. But if we are in Kingman, Calico's is the 'go to' for Sunday Brunch!
(3)Cassandra V.
I do enjoy this restaurant because of its spacious, comfortable, and down-to-earth atmosphere. I've always been greeted and waited upon in a speedy manner by friendly, although a little harried, servers. The place is usually busy, which is always a good sign for a restaurant. Each table has a quirky book perched in between the catsup and mustard bottles that you can peruse and purchase a new copy in the lobby. The salad bar is great - and I always fill up on the wonderful soups. The only issue with the salad bar is the small plates and no bowls for soup - just cup size. The food order is always generous and tasty. Unfortunately, I have tried their desserts, and now I ALWAYS have to get the pie, (usually the French silk), to go. Drat! I say - because that little addition, along with the salad bar and meal, pushes the price for two to almost $30. But it's worth the money once a month.
(4)Amanda P.
A very friendly family restaurant in a town where you get the impression that these things may be hard to come by. I can't slam the place, because the service is fabulous, and the food was pretty decent, if bland. Props for red bliss potato salad, made with sour cream and scallions intsead of mayo. Props for the fact that they actually make an attempt to have a few vegetarian options on their menu, including a choice of two types of (pre-made) veggie burgers, one of which is soy free. Props for the amazing waitress who put up with my stir-crazy kids. Boo for the fact that a lot of their stuff apparently comes in frozen and pre-made, including all of their desserts.
(3)Hylary L.
My husband and I stopped here on our way from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. We were starved and the restaurant was easily accesible from the highway. The service was attentive, but not overly friendly. The food was pretty good, standard diner fare. My one complaint and the reasons I knocked it down a star was I was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant. I know it's Arizona, but they really should consider getting air conditioning or, if they already have it, turning it up a few hundred notches. I started to get sweaty and nauseous by the end of the meal. If they fix that issue, however, I would recommend this place for travellers.
(3)Mike W.
Good food
(4)Jace T.
Good ol' diner with a soup and salad bar with tons of old people who know what good food is all about.
(4)John R.
I don't live in Kingman but was passing through and stopped here for breakfast one day. What a surprise! The food is so good and the portions are large! We had to take our biscuits with us in a doggie bag. Our waitress rocked and overall this place is highly recommended and we WILL be back...next time we're in Kingman!
(4)Marcos N.
Good place to stop by and eat on a road trip the looks of this place is not to attractive but the food is what counts , decent food and ill come back if I was back in the area
(3)Brett S.
kingman is certainly not a dinning capital so I was happen to find Calico's when passing through to Flagstaff. this restaurant was clean with a good choice of menu options. I ordered a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread with avocado slices, bacon and lettuce which was very tasty. My wife ordered chicken salad sandwich which she enjoyed. This is a town with mostly fast food which we sustain so it was a pleasant surprise.
(3)Mark C.
Stopped here for lunch on drive to Grand Canyon. Very fresh food, clean and good service.
(4)Kit K.
Finally made it to Calico's and I was underwhelmed. The decor is straight out of the 80's. The food was okay, but I had the Calico Melt and it seemed to be missing "something" although I couldn't tell you what. Just kind of bland. Hubby had the Black Diamond and he said the same thing about his sandwich. The sweet potato fries were excellent. Was surprised that at 2p.m. on a Sunday the breakfast buffet was still available. I checked it out and there was nothing on there I couldn't live without. It wasn't particularly appetizing to me. I doubt I'll go back - too many other places to try in town.
(3)Johnson M.
When you're on the road, unfortunately, fast food is seemingly your only option. Well, I don't eat fast food, so I'm always on the lookout for other options. If you're passing through Kingman, this place is a decent stop. Plenty of parking, big counter for quick service, they've got a salad / soup bar and even had a breakfast / brunch bar. Don't expect the wait staff to know anything regarding the ingredients in their food, but they will check things out for you, begrudgingly. Their BBQ Pork is NOT BBQ, it's pork with BBQ sauce. The fries were fries and the chili was decent. Price was fair. Nothing special here, but a solid alternative for fast food if you're passing through, or god-forbid, live, in Kingman
(3)Prof M.
My wife detests sandwiches. We were in Kingman for a couple of days. Found this place. OMG. And once more...OMG. They have a BLT sandwich (Coyote BLT:alfalfa sprouts, bacon, lettuce, avocado etc) accompanied by potato salad ( it deserves it's own OMG!) that my wife ate. To the plate. Nada, Zip, nothing for me. Usually she takes a few bites of lunch then tries to con me into finishing her plate so she's not embarrassed. Not this time. I would have had a row of fork tine imprints across the back of my hand if I had reached for her sandwich. I had the beef dip. Nothing to write home about. But the chocolate milk shake. OMG. They use real ice cream, not from a mix. It was awesome. I never got to try even a bite of thsat sandwich. Not a bite...a first. And all the other stuff other reviewers are saying about friendly etc. Not a GD Bite.
(5)Daniel T.
The breakfast bar includes a dessert bar. What could be better than that? How about being able to add the salad bar for .99!
(4)Margaret N.
Kingman was the natural stopping place for lunch. Not interested in fast food or chain / coffee shop fare. Found the Calico on Yelp and were willing to try it based on decent reviews. Cheesy country ambiance but remembered we were in Kingman .... Sunday afternoon and the buffet seemed to be VERY popular. Buffets really freak me out ( sneeze glass, if you are lucky, and the thought of man-handled food is tough to get past). We ordered off the menu. I ordered a BLT salad and my partner ordered a sandwich. The BLT salad ( basically a COBB salad) had hardly any B ( bacon) and the lettuce was past its prime but edible. The salad dressing which on the menu was called something like Bacon Dressing, was nothing more than Thousand Island. We weren't Wowed but still preferred the meal over a corporate coffee shop ( Denny's, Subway etc). We try to patronize the local establishments when we can.. So we will keep Calico in mind next time we are traveling through Kingman at meal time. With drinks and tip the bill was $30. A bit high for the quality and portions. But not outrageous.
(3)xx x.
A nice, slightly upscale diner. Soup was good. Salad bar was reasonably stocked, (although only small plates were available).
(3)Janet G.
Very friendly and good service. Food very good. Will go there again.
(4)Delia L.
