Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The food was only 3 stars, but the family who owns the place was so warm and welcoming I wish I could give it more. The cheese crisp was winner winner, but it was unanimously agreed that everything else was dishearteningly bland. Maybe we came on an off night.

Great place to stop for lunch not a bad excursion from the interstate. Had the green chili cheese burger, it was really good and the staff was nice and attentive.

Food is good. We had the chimichangas. Very tasty and not greasy. Smaller portion size (which should be the normal size). Owners are very sweet and love to chat.

Great service, cute atmosphere, amazing food. Family owned, and as soon as you walk in you are part of the family. The Navajo Burger was amazing - it's a burger on fry bread! Great meal after a day at Petrified Forest.

owe enjoyed our visit here. the meal was the very definition of home cooked, service was friendly, and we will be going back.

We checked this place out en route to Petrified Forest NP...it was decent. I think if I came back here again I would opt for a Mexican entree. The only reason I didn't is because I planned on having Mexican food for dinner in NM. The French Dip was actually not overcooked, which is a pretty standard point of failure in French Dips. My GF got a quesadilla which was pretty plain, but then again, she asked for it that way. Nothing to be wowed about, but if you're in Holbrook, where else are you going to go?

I gave this place 3 stars mainly for the atmosphere and hospitality. The owner/ host lady was very very nice and friendly. The food prices were very reasonable and the bathrooms were clean. I am not sure how their meals are as we only stopped by for a quick drink and some appetizers. We ordered the green chili fries and green chili cheese crisp. These were OK. I noticed that other people in the cafe were ordering dinner and the portions looked large and these people ate everything. So...It must be pretty good.... Overall - an interesting place to stop by for snacks and a soda.

WoW!! Where do I begin! This place is my favorite Mexican-American food EVER!! Their green chili cheese crisp is outta this world! They make their salsa with the best ingredients so yummy!!! Oh and they have yummy soda flavors - pinneapple, chocolate, vanilla, and cherry. Seriously if you dont love Wayside something is wrong with you. Oh, and it is always lovely to know the kitchen is VERY Clean :) Chow down! And then go for a 10k haha :)

This is the new Wayside, has new owners. The food was fantastic. Real friendly people. I think we have a new place to eat in town. It is Mexican / American. That is the only down-side we have so many in this little town.

The food is pretty good. Service friendly and learning. Owner tries hard to improve things. Bathroom needs work. It is clean.

From the outside this looks like a place where you could order a nice plate of salmonella, but the food is surprisingly all right. We all had meals from the Mexican side of the menu (quesadilla, tostado, enchilada, huevos rancheros) and they were pretty tasty and did not kill us. Service was not great, but there was only 1 staff member in the dining room and she seemed to be doing a lot. Before, during, and after our meal we enjoyed a lecture, provided without request or provocation by a colorful local art dealer, on the history of Native American art.

What can I say, awesome food! Love the owner! She made me gluten free chili and meal since I have an allergy. I highly recommend this place!

We were staying in Holbrook overnight, so we took the opportunity to satisfy our green chili cravings. We discovered Wayside after a Yelp search. You will NOT be disappointed. This family-run restaurant isn't very big. The flavor of their food is. We were treated like family (short of having to do the dishes), and served some of the finest food we've ever eaten. We followed to lead of other reviewers on here, and shared the Green Chile Crisp as an appetizer. It was lick-the-plate good. My daughter enjoyed the Green Chile Burger (order the mini, unless you're REALLY hungry, or want to take some home with you). I tried the Navajo Burger. Wow! We took sopapillas back to the hotel with us for a late dessert. If you don't enjoy our meal here, all I can say is you must've been dropped on your head as a child. I gave it 5 stars because that's all they'd let me.

Okay food, very nice people. I had the chicken tacos. Nothing special, but tasty. A little added salt made them better.

Great place to eat! Food was the most authentic we have had in a while. Salsa was delicious also! The owner was so friendly and helpful with local events to catch while in Holbrook. Will make it a point to stop in again on our next trip!!
