Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I had no idea that Posto's did brunch! Now I will stop more often. The menu wasn't overwhelmingly large but the ideas they did have were well thought out and well put together. Stuffed French toast done Italian style with prosciutto and mascarpone and a side of syrup supported it nicely. I had the breakfast burger. Burger medium rare with an egg on top, hollandaise lightly spread on top and an English muffin. Can't wait for next visit to add a delectable dessert! Service was also very friendly and attentive.

The best dining experience we had in Flagstaff! We visited for dinner on 5/6/15 and we beat the dinner rush, noticed it got very busy as we finished our meal. I loved the ambience, it has this very open and airy feel, tables are spaced well apart, they have a beautiful dining room from the tin ceiling to the rustic wood floor. The wait staff was very respectful and immediately offered us their cheese plate menu which looked impressive, we didn't have any though. We split a bruschetta and it was unique in that it was "self serve" toppings alongside the bread, I was a huge fan of the carmelized onion with the blue cheese, my boyfriend enjoyed the pepper and roasted garlic on his. We also split a small plate of spaghetti and meatballs which was very good the sauce tasted very fresh and meatballs were tender and well seasoned. Unlike other reviews I read there was not a "high sodium level." Lastly we split their mini calzones, they were the STAR of the experience, the crust is flaky and every thing you want in pastry, the fillings are unique in each one of the three- chicken, eggplant and pepperoni. I could have eaten probably 6 of the chicken flavor alone as they were so creamy and when you dipped it in the red sauce and ate a bite it just melted on your tongue in a glorious kind of way. Boyfriend pretty much ate the whole pepperoni one so it was great, the eggplant was very good as well we just were pretty full by the time we got to it and it was outshone by the other two. Also had a cocktail think it was a orange margarita? not sure the name but it was very strong on the tequila side. The liquor used was very smooth and no afterbite. We didn't finish it between the two of us as it was so strong and with higher elevation we were warned one cocktail/drink equals two if you are not used to it.

Meh- ordered a chicken Parmesan sandwich and had way too much basil!? Whatever it is, way overboard. Soup was OK, service was decent, but the food just was not good at all.
(2)Coco L.
My son and I had lunch here today, and it was not only delicious, clean, and comfortable, but the service was great. My son's Mac and cheese was awesome (I had a few bites, hehe) and my spinach salad (side not meal) with chicken was perfect size for lunch, and the chicken had a great flavor and texture. Perfect amount of dressing, and mixture of greens and other veggies (and sweet pecans). I'll definitely be going back next time we're in flag :) thanks guys!

I was in Flagstaff for a work trip and I stopped in here for lunch. I'm gluten-free and saw on their website that they had gluten-free options so I was hopeful. Their lunch menu is small but the salad and GF pasta pomodoro were both amazing. The portions were the perfect size for lunch and weren't too heavy. Their GF pasta is possibly the best I've had. The place was basically empty since I got there right after it opened and the waiter was very friendly and attentive.

Downtown Flagstaff was busy on Saturday night and we were glad that we made reservations. We started with a bottle of wine and a cheese plate. The cheese plate was nice but a bit skimpy for the price. My wife ordered the chicken parmesan. It came with spaghetti and tomato sauce. I would also say that it was the smallest chicken breast that I ever saw served at a restaurant. No salad or bread came with her meal and for 25 bucks, I would call it over-priced. I had the lasagna and meat sauce (small plate) and calzone (small plate). The lasagna was excellent and sized according to the price. The calzones were made with a puffed pastry not pizza dough. I thought that they were greasy and would not order them again. All in all, the server and restaurant were nice but the food was overall pretty average and over-priced.

Fantastic small plates and fresh pasta. Delicioso! Calamari and wine selection were delish!

We started off our night at Il Rosso Italiane around the corner, and had a severely disappointing experience. The service was atrocious and the menu lackluster at best. Decided to cut our losses after a beer and stale bread and find another place to enjoy a meal. We quickly found Pasto and were pleasantly surprised with an amazing ambiance and friendly and knowledgable staff. We were seated at a romantic table by the window and were quickly served warm bread and olive oil. After a few recommendations from our adorable waitress, we ordered the Layered Cake Malbec to drink and the lasagna and five cheese ravioli with mushrooms added for our entrees. There were two different portion options and we opted with the lighter, which was the perfect amount of food! The lasagna had an amazingly creamy and rich bolognese sauce topped with a bountiful amount of freshly chopped basil. Every bite was better than the last! The five cheese ravioli was better than I could have ever expected with a creamy sweet tomato sauce that lit up my taste buds like the Fourth of July! Also topped with lots of freshly chopped basil that complimented the sweetness of the tomato sauce perfectly! All of the ingredients were very fresh and our waitress was very helpful and attentive. For desert we decided to get the Kahlua gelato which was topped with a chocolate hazelnut Pirouette. Our experience was so fantastic that we wanted to return the following night, but didn't get back in time before they closed. We will definitely be returning to Flagstaff, if for nothing else than this amazing restaurant.

This is one of those places that I wanted to like, but I kept running into issues. Drinks - pass with flying colors. The limoncello martini is delectable, with a tart sweetness that is a nice kickoff for dinner. Bread looks like biscotti when it comes out but is pleasantly soft and yeasty. Calamari- presentation is great. But, there is too much breading which makes it almost cake-like. The flavor is actually excellent...with a little less breading and this could be a hit. Spaghetti and meatball looks great. The sauce is bright and the initial flavor is sweet and fresh. However, after a couple bites, there was just a bit too much salt. Less sodium, and this is a good order. Mediterranean farfalle is a nice colorful presentation. Bit, every bite had too much caper, feta, olive, red onion which overwhelmed what should have been a more subtle blend of forward flavors. Mushroom risotto looks great on the plate. This is a dish that I REALLY wanted to love. The mushrooms are excellent and the arborio is perfectly cooked. But, between each bite I found myself reaching for my water instead if my red zin. There was just too much sodium that almost made it unpalatable. Too bad! This place just misses the mark with what it is trying to achieve. The kitchen definitely has talent -- just work on balancing out flavors and the seasoning a touch and this ship can be tightened up.
(3)Sarah W.
Ate here the other night and we thought the entrees were saccharine. My mom had the lamb manicotti, which had way too much balsamic and I ordered the beef tenderloin pasta, which had a cream sauce that looked and tasted more like thousand island dressing than it did cream. The beef tenderloin was cooked well, but the pasta was just so-so and was a little overwhelmed by red pepper and a bad sauce. This meal cost $32, which struck me as pretty steep even considering the beef that came with it. I'm giving Pasto two stars because, for as bad and pricey the food was, they did serve me a generous pour if wine and the cheesecake was very good. Slow but friendly service.

Enjoy the feeling of this hidden treasure in Flagstaff, Arizona! The "Secret Garden" will make you think you are in another world! A quiet place to relax and enjoy lunch with a friend or group! The prompt service and feel of the hidden outdoor dining area are unique to the area. I drove to meet a friend from Williams, AZ about 30 miles away and will be back! The photos posted share the delightful presentation of the tasty starters! The cheese plate was fresh and light. The Portabella and Eggplant Fries are in a tempura batter served with a very light Baslamic dipping sauce and a must to try! Several starters and a cool drink make dining on the patio a wonderful Flagstaff memory. The Turkey and Brie sandwich my friend had was very fresh and light. There was a lot of thick bread as you can see. The Mushroom Risotto was not good at all. Very sticky and too much olive oil on the side for the presentation. Presentation was beautiful and the vegetable toppings were wonderful. Will try a different entree next time. The ambiance and unique setting make this a perfect place to talk and enjoy the Flagstaff experience.

First off, compliments to Chef Long, you are a genius. I hadn't been to Pasto in a couple of years, even though it used to be my favorite spot to get dinner, so my wife and I decided to go for our anniversary. My friends, Pasto has never disappointed us, and the same is true about last night! We started with a small plate(double cream Brie, so good), which we enjoyed very slowly, savoring every flavor off the plate and enjoying the view of downtown Flagstaff. Next, we had our main courses, I had the chicken fried quail, and my wife had the gnocchi special. Both were amazing, but the quail had both of us wishing for more! Definitely try this dish! Finally, we ended our night with a creme brûlée cheesecake and a chocolate mousse, which perfectly complemented all of our savory dishes with a well deserved sweetness. I will be back incredibly soon, especially since they now have brunch!
(5)Monica L.
The menu is small but impressive. This was definitely a good choice. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the wait between courses was a bit long but really that is a minor thing. I'd give 4.5 if I could. The food was gorgeously presented, piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. My 12 year old loved it, even the mushrooms! I wish I'd had room to try a dessert.
(4)R.C. W.
Sorry, misses the mark by a long shot. We live in Flag, Pasto has an outstanding location, wonderful decor inside and out. Why is it that the food is below mediocre. Far from Italian, it is a mish-mash of poorly prepared dishes that do not resemble their name. We keep trying ( 5 times now) in hopes that they will come around. Not yet, and we're done trying.
(1)M K.
I really wish I could give 4.5 stars because my visit here was nearly perfect. It's a beautiful place with great ambience (a little wear on some of the chairs, however), good food, and good service. Why it wasn't busier for Sunday brunch is a mystery. The waitress was a little new so there were some very minor hiccups but she was very pleasant and professional. The food was also good with some unique touches on standard favorites; great presentation; and good drinks as well (with particularly good brunch prices, although the limoncello was a little underwhelming). If I were a local this is definitely a place that would be a regular.
(4)MIchael W.
Not a big menu item, but they also have a nice selection of cheeses. Stopped on for a light late dinner and their selections hit the spot. The Red Dragon Welsh Cheddar was great, topped off later with Port for dessert. Thanks Dillon!
(4)Jarod M.
Made reservations for their prix fixe New Year's Eve family dinner. The food was acceptable but definitely over priced. To be fair, we had a large group but the service was unnerving. The only highlight of the meal was that the location enabled us to watch the pine cone drop at midnight. In any case, I would not recommend Pasto to my friends.
(2)Richard S.
I love this place - it is my first choice in Flagstaff However tonight was not perfect. I had a most enjoyable soup-of-the-day and a salad. My wife's pasta dish missed the mark totally - it should have been removed from the bill - but the waiter missed that point and thus his tip was calculated appropriately.
(4)Natalie B.
Went here for my graduation dinner. This place is great and it's nice and cozy on a winter night. They have a great selection of cocktails and the food is to die for! For dessert, try the pumpkin cheesecake!
(5)Michelle W.
This was my 2nd time visiting Flagstaff, and as a tourist I made an impulsive decision to visit this restaurant without checking any reviews ahead of time- it looked nice on the outside. Service was great. However, the food was tasteless. Out of the 4 entrees ordered between my family, not one was finished. The only plate that had any flavor to it was the lasagna. I would not return.
(1)Lori G.
Two stars for the ambience, location and the limoncello martini. we had the lasagne and the sausage and peppers. they both LOOK beautiful on the plate but the sauce is TOO much lamb and salt flavor. if the kitchen would back off on the meat flavor to allow the seasoning flavors to come through, the entrees would be better. the wedding soup had the same lamby flavor. the tiramisu for dessert would have been good if it wasn't so dry. i asked the waiter if this piece was indicative of "always" and he said the chef likes it that way. ok, but that's not the way it's supposed to be. i really wanted to like this restaurant, i'll go back at least once more for drinks and the cheese plate. i hear the creme brulee is good. maybe i'll try an entree that doesn't use their marinara sauce.
(2)Pix J.
My review is based on customer service. Disappointed they didn't want to seat a party of 14 with a lame excuse of needing to separate the group, with the restaurant not even 1/2 full. I got the feeling they wanted to go home early. We ended up going to a great Thai restaurant around the corner. See that 5 star review.
(1)Lori T.
The food was phenomenal at Pasto! My family and I went to this restaurant after passing it while window shopping. Besides the food being wonderful, the restaurant offers two entree sizes - "course" and "meal". This is a great feature for those of us who want smaller portion sizes. I had the lobster risotto, which was fabulous. My son and husband also enjoyed their dinners. We will definitely return to this restaurant on our next visit to Flagstaff. Their Saturday and Sunday brunch menu looks quite tempting, so we will be back to try the stuffed French toast. FYI - the comment from another reviewer about poor service for not getting a party of 14 served is not really justified unless the restaurant was contacted before hand to obtain a reservation for a large party. This is an intimate type of restaurant and large parties should show some common courtesy by calling the restaurant first for an appropriate accommodation.
(5)John G.
Indifferent response from the manager when we complained about a cold poorly prepared valentines day meal.My wife complained to the manager that my meal was cold and that the honey served us was old and granulated and his response was "I know", no I am sorry ext. just an acknowledgement that the food was bad.It was difficult to get a reservation for valentines day. This business does not deserve your patronage. If management does not care ,no one else cares.

Fantastic. It's been a while since I last enjoyed dinner here. I remember Pasto's as the first really nice dinner I had in FLG before moving to town in 2008. We sat on the patio. It was charming. I've eaten here about four times since. And it's been hit or miss. Tonight was a hit. The Mac and goat cheese was super fun and the lasagna was excellent. Service was also great. And you can't beat the atmosphere.
(5)Lindsy H.
Great atmosphere. Great staff. Good food with a basic menu. We arrived just after 7pm and were offered the patio. It was like our own private dining experience. The patio is enclosed in brick which reminds me of Boston and the greenery and feel are that of New York, you'd have no idea you're in the middle of downtown Flagstaff! Heaters were instantly fired up and placed around our table and water at each place setting. The wait staff was attentive and still gave us space to enjoy our meal un-rushed. I ordered the Arugula Salad, dressing on the side as did my sis in-law and my brother ordered the black and blue (burger w/blue cheese). The greens were fresh, and I liked the pine nuts and goat cheese, but the beets were a little dry. The black and blue was cooked as ordered, but was really greasy and the blue cheese made for a mess. The Malbec we ordered was good and the evening was enjoyable. *The waitress, Elise, is awesome!
(4)Zane D.
Wife and I were excited to eat here, but as others have said, the service is absolutely awful and the food is hit or miss. Some dishes were good, but most missed the mark completely. Considering the price, the value just isn't there. I would expect much better food consistently throughout the meal and way better service when spending that much for a meal.
(2)Corey G.
I am going to get straight to the point. Some of the absolute worst service I have ever had in my life. The food was bland. Do not go here.
(1)Heather L.
Loved. Had the mushroom risotto and it was the best risotto I have ever had. The veggies were cooked to perfection. Had a good atmosphere. I will definitely be going back again soon
(5)W. Dane N.
OMG was this place good. Got the chicken Marsala and it was really just wonderful, one of the best sauces I've ever had. Tried bites of other things as I was in a big group of people that like to share and thought it was all very good to great. Highlights would be Mac and goat cheese, truffle fries and the bleu cheese burger. Other reviewers too mentioned that it was over priced, I disagree, for 12 people (some kids included) it was around $120 or so after tip for lunch. Yes not cheap like McDonalds or something, but a good deal for Italian in a very cool place (great decor, nice patio) with tasty food and friendly, but non-intrusive staff.
(5)Christine L.
Amazing! The service, the food, the location, the venue...all top notch. We came in a few minutes before close tonight and ordered vegetarian pastas with the eggplant/mushroom starter. The staff was very accomodating and super friendly. Very satisfied with the food and the service. Then we caved in and ordered dessert even though we have been watching our weight. It was this amazing crem brulee cheesecake that blew us away!!! Even the presentation was gorgeous! Highly recommend this place!!!
(5)Lem B.
All I can say is, "Flavor City." I like flavor and this place is on point. "Randomly" found it while wandering Flagstaff, and I highly recommend eating here. The food was delicious and if you like a salty meal without the guilt of the saltshaker, go here. Upscale ambience and romantic.
(5)Sarah Y.
Pasto is high quality Italian food in Flagstaff, AZ. Their selection of wine, bread, and vegetarian pasta is delicious. I strongly suggest the Malbec. There are only a few issues with Pasto. Firstly, they charge $8 for a very small chunk of cheese as an appetizer. The cheese is not sufficient for a table of two, even though the strongly encourage you to get it as the "perfect appetizer for two." Secondly, the flavor of their pasta is unpredictable. Sometimes it is absolutely delicious, and other times it is overbearingly salty. Lastly, the servers are questionable. I have had one good server while I was there, and the rest have been pretentious, neglected the table during the entire meal, or acted like bringing more water to the table was too much of an imposition. Again, the quality of the food is good, but there are some issues in relation to prices, use of salt, and the service.
(4)Claire D.
Hands down this is the best place to get lunch in Flagstaff. The food is exceptional and priced fairly. Do not let the $$$ deter you! Most lunch dishes are around $10-12. They utilize high quality ingredients and the dishes are well thought out and creative. They have a nice variety of options that changes seasonally. Vegetarians will find that they have plenty of good options, rather than the typical "throw away" vegetarian dish. Beyond the lunch menu, make sure to try their dessert-- made in house (I'm pretty sure they have an expert chocolatier on staff). And they make excellent coffee. I advise asking for some chocolate shavings on top of your cappuccino for the best of both worlds. Beyond the excellent food, Pasto is a great place to get some respite from busy downtown Flagstaff. They have the most beautiful, peaceful courtyard. It's one of the few places in town where you can sit outside, but not fight for a seat or hear tons of traffic and other commotion. If it is too cold for the courtyard, the inside is equally pleasant. They have tastefully decorated the inside while showcasing their beautiful, exposed brick walls. The wait staff is also attentive, but not overbearing. I highly recommend Pasto!
(5)Wyatt E.
Horrible food and service! Pork was served raw, not even rare. When sent back to cook more the server kindly explained that they use top quality product and it would be okay. Sent it back anyway for them to throw it in the microwave and not even re-plate it nicely. Half the pork chop was still raw and the other well done.
(1)Brandi B.
excellent food, atmosphere & service. I always ask for Ivy. she has been there for years & is the sweetest. I love the deserts & the specials.
(5)Jim T.
Pasto looked like one of the better dining options in downtown Flagstaff. The building was interesting and the menu broad enough to have options for both of us. We had different the mac-and-cheese options, although when I tried to order the daily special it was out. The pasta was good, but I have had much better gourmet M&C. The garlic bread was good. Service was a little slow but we would eat here again.
(3)Mike L.
Tonight I took my beautiful family out to eat, we are fortunate enough to get out a lot and try different restaurants. I was shocked about how we were treated! Not only did it take almost an hour and a half to get our food, the manager made us feel like we were not welcome. I ordered a burger with fries, they came out and told me that they were out of fries. The waitress then stated some substitutions, this is when she recommended the portobello fries, which I then agreed too, she came out 5 minutes later and told me it would be an upcharge. Even though she recommended it and failed to originally tell me they were out of fries. The manager didn't talk to us or adress the problem at all. Not only were they out of fries, they were out of Ceasar salad, and didn't have Alfredo or pesto sauce. I will never step foot in Pasto ever again. I will also tell all my friends to stay away as I would never want my friends to experience a night like I did.
(1)Tom K.
Wow. I'm looking at all these glowing reviews and I can only think that 1) most are locals in the area without any idea of what passes for decent food or 2) people are clearly clueless not knowing how to make their own food. This place is horrid. Chicken Marsala is made with Marsala wine and reduces to a brown sauce and does not resemble in any way shape or form shredded chicken Alfredo no matter how much convincing the waiter does to insist that this is the chef's spin on this dish. My wife sent it back asap. The beef sausage meal. Disgusting. Black bean risotto tasted like oatmeal. The beef sausage was unusually soft, too soft. One sausage - $25 plate. Ridiculously overpriced. My wife decided to get the minestrone soup - because how could one screw that up? The bottom line, $9 for a can of Progresso. I would love to see some great places in Flag - but geesh, this isn't not one of them. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Worst meal I've had in 25 years - inspired me to write this review. Chef Robert from Restaurant Impossible needs to intervene here.
(1)Daniel R.
I agree with Ron H. For the money this is not worthwhile. I had the sausage on zita. The sausage was very generic with little flavor. Sauce was tasty but dry. My wife had the quail. Very uneventful. We are from California and expected much more. Wine was the only good thing.
(2)Capt M.
Basic like pasta and meatballs, excellent. Pork Loin was delish. Passing thru town on a cross country drive, we stumbled upon this place. Once seated on stage in the window, the service and food was excellent. I would go back!
(4)Brendon D.
Ask for Ivy. She was so fun! If you are a stuffy-ass-lame-a-zoid then you'll be just as miserable as you already are in your sad excuse for a life. IF, on the other hand, you love having fun and interacting with upbeat people, then you need to come here and ask for Ivy. The interior is awesome. You gotta reserve a table by the window if there are only 2 people in your party. We had the prosciutto and brochette appetizers. They were OK. I think you could do better and save cash by trying some of the other things on their menu. Don't half step. Sit at the window and enjoy the life out on the sidewalks.
(3)Bob C.
An efficiently run dining room that was on the edge of being understaffed. Huge menu and a nice option of half orders for the pastas. Excellent wine list, fairly priced. Expensive side salads that were fine but didn't warrant price of $8-$10. Odd music that ranged from hip hop to French, Italian would have been nice. Attractive room.
(4)Jason M.
This is a good place. The food is good but at times can get boring after a few bites. Despite that the food is worth going back for. It's not the most spectacular Italian I have had but is decent and they have a great space. The manager and staff tend to be very good. I am sure there are bad times but what place does not. I would tend to stay away from the large pasta dishes as they get boring after awhile. Go for a entree with a protein, veg and side pasta instead. Much better experience IMO. Ciao!!!
(3)Cindy C.
While visiting Flag with a few girlfriends we stumbled upon Pasto while walking down Aspen. We made a reservation for dinner by phone because they were closed in the afternoon. David called back that afternoon to confirm the reservation we left on the voicemail. We arrived and were greeted right away and were all impressed by the warm and inviting atmosphere. Our waitress was nice and the service was good. We shared two cesear salads, the spicy meatball antipasto dish and two pastas. I forgot which ones but they were absolutely DELICIOUS! We ordered a bottle of wine which seemed a bit pricey at $65 but i usually let my boyfriend do the wine ordering and since this wasa girl's weekend we didn't mind. Unfortunately, there was a ceiling fan over us which they said they couldn't adjust the speed of and we were hoping for a cocktail before dinner and arrived to find they only served beer and wine. Overall, it was a pleasant dining expereince and I gave it 4 stars bc I loved those pasta dishes SO much!
(4)Kali R.
I'm surprised to see so many bad reviews, besides the rude hostess this place was great! The atmosphere was cute and the food was fresh and yummy.
(4)Lynn S.
We were just in Flag on vacation and I should have read the recent Yelp reviews before I sugggested this place from the guidebook reviews which are older. The restaurant advertises that it is open until 9. We arrived at 8:15 , there were some empty tables and the host acted pained that we actually wanted to sit down and have a meal. We were told to wait in the other room for about 15 min. Our server was pleasant enough, but I think he was about 15 years old and had no idea what he was doing. Out of 4 dinners 1 was acceptable (but overpriced for a small bowl of pasta and meat sauce), mine was totally bland and uninspired. I asked for salt & pepper and was given a little plastic grinder that didn't work well. The salads were small and limp with dressing that must have been sitting somewhere for hours. The tables are tiny and the 4 of us felt very cramped when our food was brought out. They serve wine in individual carafe's which would have been fine except that left even less room on the table. The bread was good, of course there wasn't room on the table for any small bread plates.
(1)Wayne M.
we paid 50 bucks a person and the scallops were bland, the risotto was like oatmeal and the wine was mediocre at best. don't eat here.
(1)seth g.
Just ate here again and I have to say Pasto is back on track. The menu has changed quite a bit since 2007..also I think the place has changed hands a couple of times since its original owners. Good service begot by very good food. Everything we had was fresh and tasty..The wife loved their cheese and veggies as a small plate side. When I say small I mean small! Don't be surprised and I felt that they were too skimpy but that's nit picky. Fresh pasta, sides a stand out and will go back for their "kobe" hanger steak. I doubt it is true "kobe" as the price did not reflect it probably the lower cost Waygu but looked good none the less. Above average wine list and you must try the Cliff Lede wine as he makes very good wine and it is sold here for I think $80 which is pretty good. Did not make it to dessert so I will defer to others.
(4)Katherine L.
We were fortunate to stop in for lunch here while in Flagstaff. Both our meals were excellent. I had the mac and goat cheese and my friend had the pasta with olives, capers, spinach. Prices were very reasonable and service was good. I would love to come here for dinner next time I'm in town.
(5)Ron H.
Food is step up from Olive Garden. The special split pea soup was good, but barely warm and $10??! For 4 or 5 spoonfuls. Entree was spaghetti with meatballs which was very olive garden. Noodle was overcooked and while I got the smaller portion for $9- just one tiny meatball? Really? Wayyyyy overpriced and food just okay. Go elsewhere.
(1)Thomas V.
I started going here in college, it was far more American-style Italian I seem to remember, then over the years it has evolved into a more traditional Italian restaurant and I have never had a complaint. The food is always simple, flavorful, and prepared perfectly. It's not cheap, it has a relaxed pace that some people mistake for slow service, but some food is not meant to be rushed. They offer a great relaxed value in an all too busy world. I'll be back again and again.
(5)Moki C.
Locally owned and lovingly prepared. Great little pillow of gnocchi...fantastic service, ask for a window set when you reserve.
(4)Brad G.
I don't think I'm alone in saying I wish I could rate this place higher. Pasto is simply gorgeous at night: stone walls, tin ceiling, accent lighting, glossy wooden tables, big windows looking out on the bustling streets and Heritage Square of lovely downtown Flagstaff. Our waiter was completely top-notch: just the right amount of attention, the right amount of information about our dishes, and excellent knowledge of and recommendations from the wine menu. It's just the food, darn it, the food! It was just... okay. Which, in a place like this actually means it was disappointing. The evening's special lasagna came out a bit cold and a tad greasy. The pasta with creamy meat sauce wasn't a revelation of subtle flavors, just the usual sort of thing. Somehow, even the gelato dessert arrived a little too melted, and the tiramisu was far too dry (even for this non-Italian). We overheard the table next to us also giving the food a "meh" review. That all said, I so love the idea of locally owned restaurants in Flagstaff's downtown. I can't tell you how happy I am that the Olive Garden is way out in south Flagstaff near all the other chain-ish, homogeneous things. My 3 star-review reflects this: I think you should go here, and I think you should expect a superior atmosphere. But only expect typical Italian at _slightly_ above-typical prices. You could go hoping for better though, as there's always a chance they'll realize they need to mix it up in the kitchen a bit. Cheers!

I went to college at NAU and lived in Flag for a number of years, but could never really afford Pasto when I was a broke college student. So on a recent visit my husband and I decided to flaunt our tourist dollars. Pasto has a very charming atmosphere, the tin ceiling, dim lighting, the kind of place you want to sip wine, stay awhile and enjoy your meal. As a starter my husband and I shared a course size of the crab macaroni. It was standard comfort food classed up a bit. A good amount of crab and the dill was a nice touch. For our entree we split the Gnocchi with a ragu sauce, absolutely delicious. The gnocchi had an amazing texture, soft and pillowy. The ragu sauce is fantastic, its cooks all day wit red wine and braised beef and has a wonderful rich flavor. Sharing the two courses was the way to go, perfect amount of food. I am only taking them down a star because we did not get any bread to start our meal. The tables around us had bread with oil and vinegar for dipping, and we had none. When my husband asked the waiter explained they had ran out and by the time more was ready he figured we would no longer want any. Maybe just communicate next time, other than that the service was great.

A little disorganized when it comes to reservations. We had a 6pm reservation and when we got there they were going to have us sit in the Blue Room, which is pretty much a waiting room. They then asked if we just like to order in there because they were not sure when a table would be ready. Even though there were 3 empty 2 tops. What?! We politely asked to be re-seated, which they did accommodate us. They actually made a table with 3 people squeeze around one 2 top and then giving us their extra 2 top. Wow if I was the other people I would have left. Mind you, the 3 empty 2 tops are still open. Overall the food was very good! You have to try the cheese cake, it was to die for!

The food was average, overpriced & the service was slow. There are too many great restaurants in Flagstaff, so pass on this one.

This place was awesome! Service, food, ambiance.... It had it all!!! Even the gorgeous guy that was dining at another table that strolled by when leaving to say Bon Appetite... Sigh....

Had the ribeye steak with twice baked potatoes, one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. The waiters are very knowledgeable. Very friendly, would definitely come back.

Loved this place! Waiter recommended the rabioli cheese plate and it was wonderful. My husband had the pork dish, and I had the special- handmade torn pasta with tomatoes with basil garlic and vinaigrette. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Seriously, the attitude of the host was enough to make me think that the owners could care less... Completely inappropriate for Flagstaff, Arizona. Charming atmosphere does not make a class A restaurant... Food is mediocre and WAY overpriced for what you get. Jackson's Grill completely shames this restaurant plus the front staff and servers at Jacksons actually act as though they want you as a guest... Not here.... Save your $$$ for restaurant that at least acts as though they want you as a customer...

I was nearly brought to tears [of joy] on my first guest visit to Pasto. The food was amazing and our server suggested wine that perfectly complimented the meal. The flavors were intense, fresh and not overly complicated. Dessert is really where they won me over, they make an assortment of chocolate delicacies and bring them out on a silver platter...you get to choose your favorites and can even get them boxed to go. On another visit, my girlfriend and I wanted a ladies night out for dessert. We arrived to Pasto later than expected and the waitstaff insisted we come in for dessert despite the fact they were nearing close. I had one of the most beautiful berry/panna cotta deserts ever! It's a favorite for date night with my husband and girlfriends alike. I'd visit again, again and again : )

While visiting a friend in Flagstaff, we decided on Pasto for dinner after driving by it earlier. It seemed like a place that would fit in perfectly in Old Town Scottsdale. While it looks like a trendy italian restaurant, it was still very comfortable and had a great atmosphere. Our waiter was not pushy and let us enjoy catching up and taking our time to order. I had the scallops for dinner, while my friend had the Mussels Arrabbiata (which were very good!) and the duck. The food was a little pricey, but it was worth it for the fresh scallops that I rarely order. Unfortunately it was too cold and windy for us to enjoy the patio in the back, but there's always a next time!

Truly gourmet food. The lamb ravioli was superb. Atmosphere is very nice.

Looks like this place can be erratic, but they were on point last night. Our server was Cassandra; she was fun, helpful and very pleasant. Hubby and I shared bruschetta and it was great. He had the Colorado lamb and was very happy with it. I had the gnocchi/veal special and it was great, if ever so slightly over-salted. Will be going back!

Terrible service, even worse "upscale italian". Did I have sweetbread tortoloni, I couldn't tell, I didn't think there was anything in them. Very pricey, most of the food was bland, and our server couldn't care less. If you want a fancy meal in Flag, go to Josephine's or Jackson's.

We ate here after a very disappointing meal at Lupo's Horseman's Lodge the night before and were so pleasantly surprised! The meal started with olives. We had a red wine flight, very good. We did have to ask for bread, but when it came out it was very decent. And then our entree...so pleasant! I had the seafood special, a tuna steak served on a pasta with a vodka sauce and some type of trout mash on top and a side of grilled asparagus. WOW! Just amazing. My girlfriend had a cesar salad, served with fillets of anchovies and sun dried tomatoes, and then had the spaghetti carbonara and again, WOW. We were very happy all throughout this meal. I was still thinking abou this meal the next day!

I wish I had felt better when we tried this restaurant. We made same day reservations and were given a great table in front of the window. I ordered the lobster ravioli which as amazing. I was also pleasantly surprised by their wine list. I wasn't feeling well so I'll have to defintely go back and give it another whirl. I do recommend it though if you want a nice dinner out.

We wanted a nice quiet dinner and that's what we got. I had the spaghetti and she had the pasta with mushrooms and white sauce. A salad that was good, but my beloved said she had wilted lettace. The atmosphere was dark and comfortable. Clearly this isn't a place where the students from NAU go to. Its a nice classic restaurant and I recommend it. I had to take away one star because I felt it was a little pricey.

Best patio/courtyard in town coupled with the worst service. Such a shame. Wife and I took some friends from out of town here for a nice dinner on a Friday night about 8:30. The place was almost empty yet we stood for at least 10 minutes while what I think was the manager walked around acting like our party of 5 was ruining her night. She finally came back and informed us that the only place for us would be in the front room at several bar tables. Wow. We suggested adding a chair to one of the mostly vacant four-tops and she finally agreed, grudgingly. Once seated we waited 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us despite her multiple visits to the other two tables near us. We tried to rally by ordering wine and apps right away, to take a bit of the "pressure" off of her. Fifteen minutes later our wine arrived, followed 5 minutes after that by our water. Seriously. Eventually we ordered a few pastas, a cheese plate and a few main dishes to share. As usual, the food was great, which makes it all the more depressing. We were delighted to meet the man who owns Pasto last summer while dining on the patio and had a great time, but we've not seen him there again. Front of house seems instead to be run by this blond woman with the super bad attitude. Something tells me if they got rid of her Pasto could be all it should.

Over the years this restaurant has gone from good to bad to great, I think because of different owners. The last few years I have been very impressed. Be ready to spend a lot, get a bottle of wine, make it a date night and get a few courses. It is worth it!

God made Man, Man made meatball, meatball is good, therefore Man is God. Ok, so this is a logical stretch, but if you had this anti-pasta lamb/beef/pork/ meatball appetizer I had, you would think God was in the Kitchen whipping up an amazing marinara sauce, and oh so perfectly moist multi-meat meatball. Go here now! The idea of this place is to eat in courses, traditional to Italian cuisine. You start with a salad, move to anti-pasta, then a starch, like gnocchi or pasta, then your main dish. If you are up for it tackle a mix and match appetizer that you can create from a list of meats, cheeses, and other tasty tid-bits, or save room for desert. Go here hungry and don't expect to pay too much for your meal, the prices are very reasonable for the excellent food you get to experience. The atmosphere is comfortable and cozy, with red exposed sandstone brick walls, hard wood floors, and simple artistic decor. This place is absolutely perfect. A great date place and even better place to spend a few hours savoring an unique special meal. I have to say the Oso Bucco was O' So Amazing! Paired with a deep rich merlot, and over a polenta, heaven in a dish. This was perhaps top 5 meals I have ever eaten. (no joke)

Ain't enough. 5 stars, I mean. Pasto deserves double that. So, maybe I'm biased since I pretty much had a religious experience here, over a dish of antipasto lamb meatballs. Every bite and I felt like I had found Jesus. This must be what it's like when your demons are exorcised and you fall down in front of the podium. Yes, I imagine it's something like that. Or, it's like the moment the roller coaster hinges are freed and you're listening to metal knock against metal on your way to the summit. Yes, it's the plunge, the free-flight, the adrenaline sprinting through your body. Yes, I imagine it's something like that. Or, it's when the dusk of winter plays softly on your window, as you lie awake in bed, watching the sun snuggle behind the horizon. You see the barren trees through your window. You watch the dusk colors change with the brilliant display of fall. You watch all this from your bed, lying there, completely wrapped in the moment. Yes, I imagine it's something like that. At Pasto, you don't just eat. You experience food. You get swept away, the flavors of the dishes and wine tingling your senses. If only the main dish hadn't been served right after the antipasto. I wanted more time - more time to savor the delicious appetizer, more time to sip my wine, more time to watch the outside world from our window table and more time spent with my friend in this unique place with hardwood flooring and tin ceilings. Yet, our main courses were served shortly after we finished our salad and antipasto. There was no time for the stomach to relax and settle. On to the main course - Squab. At first I was turned off my the idea of eating commercially raised pigeons. Then I was intrigued. Then I was sold. Oh, why not? After all, this dinner was about experiencing new things. Each and every bite was incredible. Sure, the bird was a little game-y - not so greasy like duck, and definitely not plain like chicken. It was incredible and light enough for me to be able to enjoy my entree without feeling like I was going to implode. (I can't say the same for my friend.) After the entree, I finished my pinot noir, pitched in my share and wrapped myself up in my winter sweater, hat and scarf. For part of the wonderful experience at Pasto was being in Flagstaff in cooler temps - a welcome change from Phoenix, indeed. I can't praise Pasto highly enough. Our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable and eager to please. He even brought out a few wines for us to sample before we ordered our individual glasses. To me, that's top-rate service, for he did this all with a happy disposition and the feeling that we were guests and he was going to take very good care of us. There wasn't an iota of impatience about him. He impressed me, actually. (And that doesn't happen very often.) It's not every day you walk into a restaurant and shake hands with the owner while he thanks you for coming in to dine. It's not every day you enjoy a fantastic culinary experience and get waited on by one of the best waiters you've ever had. It's not every day you bite into an antipasto that catapults you into nirvana. Yep, 5 stars just ain't enough.
