Went here after a morning walk around downtown taking pictures of murals, so we were quite hungry! I got their steamed tofu yellow curry, which came with a salad drenched in peanut sauce. The curry was good, just the right amount of spice. Very cheap lunch pricing as well.

This review is based on a takeout experience. We were looking for some good Thai after driving for 10 hours but we were nervous to try this place out from all the bad reviews we read on yelp. We didn't want to deal with bad service so we decided to do takeout instead. The lady that picked up the phone was really nice. We choose level 4 spicy for everything we ordered and it was not that spicy but we already expected it from previous yelpers. Ordered the Tom Ka (The broth was very flavorful and was full of chicken and mushrooms) Ordered Beef Salad (the beef was tough but well marinated. However, the dressing used for the salad needed more lime. It was just a bit salty for our tastes.) Ordered Pad Thai (It was good but not great. It was a little too salty for my taste. It had lots of chicken but wish it had more than 2 pieces of shrimp) Ordered Drunken Noodles with Beef (My boyfriend says it was also a bit salty. He was expecting a sweeter flavor but it was only one dimensional in terms of flavor. The beef that came with the dish was plentiful and the portion was fair for the price.) Overall the food tasted fresh and were made with quality ingredients. The portions were fair for the price and the takeout service was fast and efficient. The flavor was not what we'd call authentic, but it did cure our Thai cravings.

Ok... So there are certain standards for restaurants. I'm pretty lenient. I totally understand a busy restaurant but there were 2 tables and 3 people at the bar. My 17 yo daughter had gone in to get an order to go and waited for ten minutes or more but was never even acknowledged. I went in and stood there for 5 or more minutes before I had to go find someone. There was a kitchen staff, a manager, a floor manager, and a waitress on staff. One of the kitchen staff was at the bar talking to a patron and looked at me several times but didn't get anyone to help me. When I told the manager that I had been waiting for several minutes their excuse was that they were busy with tables. Again, 2 tables were occupied one had just received their food and one had finished. I would have rated this higher because after I got some service they apologized and prepared the food promptly. However, we got back to the hotel and there were no utensils with the food. My daughter had to "improvise" and with pad Thai that's not easy. Food was decent tho and fairly authentic. I will give them that.

The lunch specials are really good. In a town that has very few good affordable restaurants this one really shines. My husband & I both got the spicy cashew chicken. It came with a very fresh salad w peanut dressing; delicious! The portion sizes are large too all for $6.95 each! I highly recommend this restaurant.

This is fantastic food. I've been going here over a decade and I have loved it every time. It is vegetarian friendly! The staff is very very friendly. Take out was always easy to get and the take out portions were quite fairly sized. You didn't feel an extreme size different like you do some places. The only funny part was that my boyfriend and I love spicy food and would always order ridiculously spicy things. The spice levels would vary every week. Sometimes it was nice and hot, sometimes it was mild. This place is pretty fantastic though and I recommend it to anyone who wants some quality Thai.
(5)Jeanie M.
Staff were friendly. Decor was lovely. The restaurant was clean. Prices were reasonable. There were lots of items to choose from on the menu, including vegetarian options. There's a nice bar and they have a happy hour! The Naked Shrimp was yummy. So fresh! It had the perfect amount of "kick."
(5)Valarie A.
Ate lunch here a few weeks ago and enjoyed the Pad Thai and egg drop soup. Will be back!
(5)LaTiece R.
This place helped ease me into trying Thai food and I enjoyed it a lot! The menu has something everyone will enjoy, they serve the best kamikazes I have ever had, and the food tastes like it was made with love haha I will most definitely be back. Make sure to keep the cocktails coming!
(4)Marisa C.
Decided to try Dara Thai because Pato was closed, but I should have just eaten at home instead. Their tom kha soup literally tasted like salty water, it was awful. Their pad see ew and pad thai were just okay. The massive amount of sugar in the pad thai was obvious after one bite. I won't be eating at Dara Thai again, Pato is just up the street and infinitely more delicious.
(2)Mrs S.
Excellent and unexpectedly authentic. If you are a Thai aficionado make sure you ask them if they make your favorite dish, as it might not be on the menu they give you!!
(5)Anand V.
We came here as a group and each got a different dish (5) and they were all excellent. I won't claim to be an expert regarding flagstaff dining options but if you want Thai I would definitely recommend Dara Thai.
(5)Victoria L.
We are huge thai food fans, we go here mostly for the Evil Jungle Princess. I have never ordered anything else, but my husband ordered the spicy duck and it was so horribly sweet he couldn't even finish it. Aside from that, they do spicy very well, the atmosphere is casual and in our experiences so far, the staff are always friendly. Will visit again, and again.
(4)Alison H.
Love this place. Been coming here since 1997. Beautiful atmosphere. Evil Jungle Princess is fantastic and Phad Thai is solid, too! What compelled me to write a review after so many visits was our server. He was beyond fantastic! Super nice, attentive. It was a JOY to be in his section. :))) I didn't catch his name, but in case the owners read this review, this guy is AWESOME! (BTW, Tom you goong here is DELICIOUS! IDK if they still have margaritas but they are amazing as well...)
(5)Norvina C.
I love it here. Service sucks but I could stick it out for the better Thai food in FLG. Pad Woon Sen with chicken 3 stars is sometimes spicier than a 5. My chopsticks are happy to feed me. Love the soup. Pad Thai is good. Thai pasta's thick noodle is bomb. Bank on any one of those three are delish. -there's the ewa's down the road and their pad Woon sen doesn't compare. Mmmm wish DT wasn't closed when i craved it.
(5)Maya U.
Nice service, fast service, this place gets 4 stars! It's located in downtown Flagstaff which is quaint and has majority free parking for 2 hours. The atmosphere is dark lit and warm. I got crab wontons, drunken noodle, and green tea ice cream. All delicious, but I should have gotten spicier noodles! The tofu was not too tasty but that's OK. Would definitely come again. Total was $19.72.
(4)Audra W.
First time here and i will never go back. I tried calling 3 times before i went downtown, i am congested and wanted some spicy food to help. We got there and waited about 5 minutes before anyone came out, she said give me one more minute. OK not a problem. About 5 more minutes later we had to walk up and ask if we could have a table( there was about 9 empty ones) and she said you can wait or leave, its your choice. We obviously left.

It's definitely not a secret that Thai food is abundant in Flagstaff. The food here, at least why I've had has been good and fresh. Is it the best in Flag? Nah, but it's better than what we have in Tucson. It's also some of the spiciest Thai I've ever had. So, watch out! The service in my experience has been prompt and friendly, sometimes bordering rushed, but that doesn't bother me. Pair the spicy eats with a nice cold beer and you're set!
(4)Erica W.
Loved it! After a long day of snowboarding my husband and I were looking to try something new. I found Dara Thai online with good reviews so we thought we'd give it a go; and we are so happy we did. Our server was so friendly and had great suggestions, the food tasted wonderful, seemed very fresh, and came to us piping hot. The portions are generous and I feel like the prices are fair. The atmosphere is casual, but appropriate for the style of food and the restaurant itself felt clean. Next time we are in Flagstaff we will be sure to visit Dara Thai again. Happy customer. :)

Worst Thai food I've ever had, plus poor service. There are a number of Thai restaurants in Flagstaff, and someone else in our group picked this one. I can't imagine why, because it's rated the worst of all the Thai places, and rightly so. First off, the place was empty on a Saturday at noon. That tells you right away it's not a very popular place. The waitress had zero personality and was very inattentive. She served our salads and every bowl had dressing dripping down the sides and lettuce/cabbage falling out. She didn't apologize nor did she bother to clean anything up. The salad was awful. I usually love the Asian peanut dressings, but this one was watered down to a thin soup consistency with zero flavor. Several in our group ordered curries. The flavor was majorly lacking, and instead of having a nice variety of veggies to go with the meat, the curries were mainly full of bambo shoots (regardless of what type of curry was ordered). I got a veggie/tofu dish in chili sauce. It was literally drowning in a plate of sauce, I've never seen anything like it in an Asian restaurant before. My veggies consisted of tons of onions and a few pieces of bell pepper. The waitress never checked on us, never cleared dishes (salad plates were left on the table the entire time we were there), and after waiting forever for our checks, I finally had to go ask for her to bring them. I can't imagine why anyone would go here when there are so many other Thai places in Flag.

BEST PAD THAI!! I haven't had good thai food in over 2 years. I stopped in and ... said to the waitress: I already know what I want. I need me some pad thai. She sat me down and said: Would you like it spicy? Me: Of course! Waitress: We have 1 thru 5 for spicy. Then we have what we call "dink dong qua" (I think that is what she said) which means "fire" spicy. Me: Give me the fire (smiling). My pad thai arrived and it smelt SO GOOD! Two bites in I was glad I ordered the draft cold Kirin beer cause that "fire" was making my blood pressure rise. But like my profile reads "Sum Like It Hot!" and I do like it hot. I ate the whole thing. Surprised I didn't lick the plate (haha). Appetite for Thai food was satisfied and this is my new favorite place for Thai. Next time I want to try the Crispy Fish with some fire.
(5)Ethan R.
There are at least three Thai places in Flagstaff. Dara Thai was the only one with parking. That being said, I'm glad we found this place. Started with the Num Sod which I could have done as my main. So good. The ingredients were fresh and the spice was just right. For my main, Panang curry and it was very good. My dining companion had the Eggplant Tofu which was very good as well. The prices are not steep. The service is very attentive.
(4)Karen R.
Good food found at lunchtime. Includes soup or salad but the soup isn't vegan. Decent prices. I will definitely go there again.
(4)Ryan G.
Large portion of food... Maybe not the best Thai in town but definitely good quality for your money! I'd go back again.
(5)C. N.
Definitely a three-star joint. It's not BAD but compared to some of the other Thai in Flagstaff, it's nothing special. In fact, I have very little to even say about this place as it is overwhelmingly average, remarkably decent, and spectacularly OK. Give it a try if you want but it's nothing to write home about.
(3)Michelle W.
Alway a fun place to go with friends for some Thai food. They take credit cards unlike some Thai places in flag. Pad Thai is good and so are many of their curries and soups... I think I'm getting close to having tried everything on the menu, fried tofu isn't as good as others, they don't cook it with the sauce so it's plain.
(5)Fay W.
My absolute favorite Thai food in Arizona. So flavorful and fresh. Lunch specials are crazy cheap and come with soup or salad. Normally I avoid repeating restaurants while on vacay but I eat at Dara at least once every time I visit Flag.
(5)Lauren Jeanne G.
If you have been putting off returning to this old stand by, it is time to return! I have been dining here for over a decade, but took a hiatus, post renovations after reading disheartening reviews. Guess what? After 3 recent trips, the food is still SO delicious and my husband is addicted! I continue to love the Dara Tofu (fried), 3 Kings Curry, the flaming soups, spicy (vegetarian) wontons, crab wontons and Thai toast. My husband loves every dish he has tried, which include seafood, duck, pineapples and etc.. We visited recently with a one year old. The fat baby and his parents were treated well, and the waitress anticipated needs before they became urgent. (ie: moved all glasses away from child and brought a to-go cup of water.) We were well cared for. Why only 4 stars, when I pine after the coconut cashew curry so deeply? Same complaint as always.: there is no consistency to the heat of the 1-5 scale. Sometimes 4 is really a 4 and other times it is a 1. I have noticed this at other Thai restaurants in Flag. I cope by asking the waitress if the chef of the day is a wuss with spices, and adjust my spice number accordingly. I have tried a couple mojito's and have been disappointed both times, but the Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee still rule. They have a large menu to include many vegetarian offerings. While my Marine is able to eat his entire portion, I always am able to take half of mine home. It is always delicious the next day. I would give a 4.5 if able. Oh Dara Thai, I loved you then, and I love you now.
(4)Jeremy C.
Love the food here and the bar does a good job mixing their drinks. $1 kamikaze shots all day long, perfect to go along with a bit of curry. I would recommend for either lunch or dinner
(4)Crystal F.
I love this place! I always get the geng Kari its a chicken coconut curry dish that is wonderful!
(4)Brandi B.
Whoa, how has this place received so many low ratings? This is the best Thai food in town, and I've never left disappointed (well, except for the one time my car got towed after dining here, but that wasn't their fault, haha). Great, flavorful food, with generous portions and friendly, prompt service. I think people may be confusing not being super chatty with poor service. No, they may not want to yak about the weather or other insipid topics at length with their customers, but I've always been greeted with a smile and been welcomed cordially, and the servers have always been great about keeping on top of the drinks and grabbing to-go bins...which you will definitely need here, as the portions are huge. The Thai tea is, of course, always superb. Get the Evil Jungle Princess with chicken, and be sure to get it 5 star spicy. Perfection!
(5)A. J.
I like thai food, and Flag has many to choose from. I like Dara Thai when I want decent prices, space to feel a sense of privacy, and better parking. Other thai places are one big square room where you see and hear everyone else and the room is hot. This place has a better layout. The food is good, but so are other places. Dara's prices seem a bit lower. The service isn't as good as other places, but the parking is generally less challenging than other places. Lots of variety. I don't think i've ever focused a review on so much weird stuff, but when it comes to thai in flagstaff each place has good food, so the odd things become the only way to choose!
(4)Dennis A.
I'm a semi-regular for lunch Great specials and carefully crafted food. Their dishes are not just meat and sauce. They're generous with the veggies and offer a nice veriety of dishes at reasonable prices. It's my daughters #1 favorite restaraunt! The only knock is that service is disorganized. There are a few servers and it's kind of a free for all with everyone in charge of everything so, no one really "owns" a table and details get overlooked.
(4)Michael B.
They have a very large menu. I have enjoyed everything I have tried. Everything is reasonably priced and the service has always been good.
(4)Michele J.
We had a wonderful waiter named Raul. He was the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately the restaurant had run out of chicken on the day that we decided to eat here. The food was plentiful and affordable although a bit rich. We asked for medium spice and it was very tame. We placed an order for mango sticky rice but we were thankful the kitchen told us they would not serve it because the mangoes were not good enough.
(3)David K.
Used to go there partly because I like good Asian beer, which they have of course. The food is "OK", but overly salty and a bit greasy to be honest. That said, decent Thai food beats burgers and fries on the health scale for sure and Flagstaff has a lot of offerings. Dave K
(2)Zane I.
Best Thai in Flagstaff, hands down. I cannot begin to describe how tasty the food is nor how delicious this place just smells! A must go every time I make it to Flagstaff.
(5)Jeremy H.
Good food at a decent price. The service here is really good, the staff has always been friendly and attentive when I have gone.
(4)Robbie H.
Pretty good thai, but not super cravable.
(3)J J.
Tried lunch twice. I don' t like it at all. Salad with lunch, I'm not sure what that dressing is supposed to be, but I think they added water to it. I will end up at Pato or Ewa's from now on. I had to update, because as I continued to try to finish my fried rice, it just gets worse. This is the worst meal I have wasted money on in a long time (that was at Native New Yorker). Red pepper flakes for spice? That is not it.
(1)David P.
I have eaten at Dar Thai 3 or 4 time over the years, had take-out a few times too. Delicious: pad thai, pad see lew, crab rangoon, spicy thai wonton, thai tea, fried rice, spicy tofu, curries. give it a try: you'll like it!
(4)Hego R.
Really good food ,me n my family went for the first time we really enjoyed ,coming back for sure .staff is really friendly .
(4)Tressa M.
This is a great place to bring groups, very accommodating. I usually get the evil jungle princess and it's delicious. If you like spicy make sure to choose a level or two up from what you think you can handle. I get Thai hot and ask for the spice rack and it's good every time. Service here is impeccable and they all help one another. I usually have the same server and he is one of a kind- always helpful!
(4)Paul L.
great food and good prices. Nice little bar area as you walk into the restaurant. Pineapple rice is great if you add thai basil :)
(5)Dave W.
Wife and I enjoy this restaurant. The food is very good and the service is good. Have only been there at lunch (twice) and both times everything was good. They have a supper menu also that's more extensive and I'm sure it would meet expectations.
(4)Maynard G.
It's OK, not bad, nothing to write home about though. None of Flag's many Thai joints are. It's much less crowded and easier to park near this one than Pato, a few blocks away and across the railroad tracks, though. Pato might be slightly better though. 2 1/2 rounded up to 3.
(3)Amy Y.
This was the first Thai restaurant I've been to when I came to Flagstaff. I've been to this place a few times since now. I love the chicken noodles. This is the dish I would order, maybe because I love noodles. Overall, the food there are pretty good. But I think it depends which dish you order. I like the way they decorated the restaurant, it has a Thai feeling. However, the service wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Sometimes they gave us attitudes. When we asked for separate checks, they add tax for each of our checks. And not even letting us choose how much tips we should give them based on the service. They calculated everything.
(4)Alissa G.
Back in 2005 this used to be the best Thai food in Flag. I'm not sure what happened 9 years later, but it's awful. The servers are slow, the food tastes weird, and the ingredients lack quality. It seems to be lacking Thai authenticity. I will not return.
(1)Lee R.
Decent Thai in an uninspired setting and a server with whom we never understood. But we did walk away from lunch for two paying less than $20, so maybe that's the plus.
(2)Brian C.
Keeping it short and sweet, if your a Pad Thai lover like myself get the number 69 and get it a number 3 hot. You won't regret it and the heat from picking it 3 hot is pleasant heat not over bearing really sets off flavors. Touché flagstaff Thai, Touché.
(5)Ryan P.
I came into Flagstaff for the night and was looking for some great local eateries. After a little searching, I passed by Dara and decided tonight was a Thai food kind of night. My server at Dara Thai was friendly, enthusiastic, and prompt. My food (the drunken noodle at a "2" for heat) was pretty good, although I regret not getting it spicier; I will say that their spicy scale is probably pretty spot on if you like hotter food. They also had a great beer special that night -- $3 for a delicious double IPA! I'll definitely look Dara up again the next time I'm in Flagstaff.
(4)Joey W.
I really hate having to rate this 2 stars. The food was really tasty. But everything else about the experience just killed it. It all started when we sat down and the only service we got was glasses of water. We had ample time to choose what we wanted to eat and then sit for at least 10 minutes with out menus closed on the table, staring around, waiting for a server. When we finally got service, the 21oz Chang beer I ordered somehow turned into an 11.2oz Czechvar. Slight difference. The food came out and, as I mentioned, it was very tasty. Although my "hot" (4/5) dish was hardly spicy at all. I had to add a layer of pepper flakes to make it even a bit hot. It always bothers me when a Thai place can't bring the spice. Oh and one other important thing to mention is the restroom. You know the old joke of asking a person if they fell in when they return from the restroom? Yeah well I nearly did. Not because the seat was up; it wasn't. It was just incredibly loose. I sat down, and I swear it nearly came right off! Other than that it was clean enough... just be careful when you seat yourself!
(2)Tilly's M.
Their pad thai is delicious! The service was pretty decent that day, compared to previous reviews. I've been craving their food ever since.
(5)Jenna C.
Over the years of living in Flagstaff, I've loved Dara. Unfortunately, my view has now changed since around last October. I've gone back several times to see if it was just some odd, horrible fluke, but I've been let down again and again. Just this evening I went with a group of five friends and were left standing in the entrance waiting to be seated. When one of the servers did see us, she asked how many were in our group and then proceeded to disappear again for six more minutes without saying a thing. Right before we almost left for Ewa's Thai down the street, she came out again and seated us without napkins or menus. After waiting a ridiculous time to order, for drinks, for our food, and then for utensils to even eat...it wasn't worth it. The calamari, duck curry, and pad thai was ordered and shared with my partner and we weren't impressed. The calamari was slightly overcooked and my partner, who is allergic to shrimp, started to react allergically. The duck curry, which is fairly expensive compared to other dishes on their menu, came with three slices of meat. I've made better curry with my friends and the meat tasted overly gamey and overcooked. The pad thai had chicken that was also overcooked, though the sauce was enjoyable. I think that I'm done with Dara. I'd rather go down the street to Ewa's or go elsewhere for something more enjoyable.

My favorite place for Thai food when I'm in Flagstaff. My husband and I try to stop in for dinner whenever we are in town. My husband lived in Flag for a bit several years ago and always likes to hit his old favorite spots when we are there. Tasty food and lots of good vegetarian options, which is always a must for us. And what a great name! :)
(3)Dennis G.
Good food and always friendly service. The evil jungle princes is a must try. The portion size isn't as large as some Thai restaurants.
(4)Chance H.
Great Thai food. I'm actually surprised it has as low of a rating as it does. I had good service and the food was great.
(4)Sparkle M.
Pretty tasty Thai food, I would order it over the phone for pick up. This is one of the slowest restaurants I have ever gone to. The Red curry is tasty but it's not worth the bad service.
(3)Roslyn B.
Traveling through S Utah and AZ, I was looking for a meal with some vegetarian options (or at least some veggies on the plate!). Hubby suggested Thai, and this one was rated best in Flagstaff. The awards didn't lie - the food was fantastic!! I had my standby plate of mixed veggies and fried tofu (veggies crisp and fresh, tofu perfect); hubby had the Three Kings - shrimp, scallops, and squid in red curry sauce (yum!). Portions were generous, prices low, and the atmosphere super cute. Couldn't be happier!
(4)Sarah Y.
Ick! I have eaten at Dara Thai a few times and never enjoyed the experience. More often than not, my curry tasted like ketchup. It was quite a disappointment. I have not been back since they remodeled a few months ago, but I suspect the quality of the food and service is about the same as it used to be... which was terrible.
(1)K M.
Good food all around. Friendly staff and reliable take-out timing, except during NAU parents weekend. Gluten free beer too!
(3)Meg D.
Delicious food! Friendly and fast service! Definitely coming back whenever I'm in the area again. Portion sizes are enough for two people at least.
(5)Christopher R.
Pad se lew.. wide ass noodles... Love it, even though it already is cooked with black soy sauce, I had to put more on, liking the salty stuff. Yum. Try it at a 4/5 spicyness. I had it at 3/5. Nose still ran away a bit, when I caught it I was in heaven. Shrimp came a plenty. I didn't have anything to report as to write home to mother, so don't go wout of your way to go here... Great service though.
(3)Chris T.
Let me say first that I used to love this place. Unfortunately it all changed when on 3 separate occasions I had rocks or eggshells or rocks, again? I'd go into what I enjoyed about this place but I don't want to take chances and I'd recommend you not either. Rocks btw saved me 10% off the bill and I stopping eating and did not continue to eat the rest before half of the meal was gone. I'd felt different if they were extremely apologetic about their mistake. Don't make the mistake of going.
(1)Jason M.
Dara Thai is back for sure. They had a long time of mediocre food due to a competing thai place. Dara Thai was good when I was in college at NAU back in the 90's but had at least 10 years of meh food. Now they are making great food. The pad Thai which is always a staple is fantastic. One of the best I have had. Massiman and other dishes are fantastic. I am also glad they expanded cause it sure makes getting a seat on Friday and Saturday nights much easier. Great place.
(4)Sarah H.
Wow. The previous reviewers must have eaten at some Dara Thai in an alternate universe. I lived in Flagstaff for eight years, and Dara Thai was my all-time favorite restaurant, as well as a favorite of everyone I know. I could not say enough good things about it! The Food: Simply amazing. The peanut sauce is to die for--I've tried multiple times but haven't yet been able to replicate its rich sweetness. The spring rolls, the chicken satay, and especially the crispy tofu are excellent appetizers. The main dishes are served in individual bowls to facilitate sharing, and are saucy and meant to be poured over the rice. The curries are delicious, especially the Evil Jungle Princess, a red coconut curry with straw mushrooms and mint leaves. Sure, I've had some bad dishes there: sometimes the Pad Thai is greasy, and sometimes the orange chicken can be dry, but the cooks are human and have their off nights, like anyone. Some cons: There aren't really any good deserts at Dara Thai, just some green tea ice cream that isn't all that great. Also, their policy of not splitting checks is annoying. The service: Yeah, sometimes it's a little slow, but usually that's because, well, the restaurant is PACKED with a 20-minute wait to sit down. The servers are usually friendly; one regular girl there always greeted us by name and bought me a drink upon learning that I was accepted to grad school. But I've seen some cold servers as well. The atmosphere: Lovely. During the day there is lots of light streaming in through the windows, and there are many unique seating areas for different moods and party types. At night it gets loud with all of the talking. But perhaps my favorite part about Dara Thai: The DRINKS! Oh, how I miss the Mai Thai, which is just different tropical juices and rum--simple and natural. The Blue Hawaiian, with blue curaco, rum, and coconut juice, is delicious and fun. Both the Asian Pear Mojito and the Coconut Mojito are fantastic. The kamakazi shots are a fun supplement to the classier drinks. The Thai iced tea is also delicious. I have since moved to the east coast and Dara Thai has been the standard by which I have measured the restaurants here. So far I am still searching for a favorite to rival my beloved Dara Thai.
(5)Colleen M.
This is our standby thai place when we are in Flagstaff. Good food, good price, and yummy. My only complaint....they are closed whenever I seem to be in flagstaff so I miss my thai food. (not all bad though, i have found other thai restaurants I love up there as a result!) Anyway, never had a bad meal here and I love their Tom Yum Gai soup!!!!! It has the perfect amount of spicyness!
(4)Randy G.
THis place used to be good, then this restaurant showed up. yelp.com/biz/pato-thai-c… Dara Thai was good when I first showed up in flagstaff, but after having better Thai food, I have this to say: The service is consistently bad, minus one server ( a friend of mine). The food has to much sauce, not allowing subtle flavours come through. If you do eat here, go for the appetizers and the soup, those are the onyl standouts in this otherwise bland and overrated restaurant. Also, a friend found hair in his shot once. Kinda gross. Also, the people saying the place is good for groups....they don't split checks, so really, how can they be good for groups?

Americanized Thai in a run-down atmosphere. Our server was nice and the service was quite good. Earlier reviewers had a hard time, so service is probably hit-and-miss. The food is pretty poor -- slapdash menu and erratic seasoning. I'd probably give Dara one star if it were in an urban center instead of 7000 feet up in the mountains. Not that any of this is surprising. When one is in a mountain community and the chosen ethnic restaurant features dollar kamikaze shots as an inducement, a sublime experience is probably not forthcoming.

On our way to the Lowell Observatory we found this place from the outside it looked tiny but was rather large inside. We had not eaten since early that morning so we decided to have some appetizers right away. First we had the Chicken satay which came with an awesome side tray of cucumbers, peanut sauce and green and purple shredded cabbage, we finished that right quick and their beef appetizer came. The sauce that came with the beef was amazing, it was spicy but very flavorful and I'm not even sure how to describe it but it came on a bed of cabbage and lettuce and hungry as we were we ate all that too. Then the Thom Ka Gai arrived and it had huge chunks of galangal, lemon grass, and chicken, mushrooms and other lovely items. They were not short on the kaffir leaves either, I highly recommend this for the Thai connoisseur as they threw in more spices than even I do when I make this at home. After that we ordered the weird Princess dish to share, it had some weird name like "Princess from the forest" or something and it had a deep garlicky flavor with a seafood flavor but it was totally different from each dish and tasted fantastic but I was too full for even 4 bites so Kim had to finish it up for us. The only thing I can complain about was the rice. It was either dried out or uncooked and wasn't so great but my Blue Hawaiian drink was tasty too. I recommend this for Thai eaters as you will not be disappointed with their choices of spices and the menu is HUGE and with more choices than anything I've seen in San Diego. For a city the size of Flagstaff I was uber impressed and there was at least a page of items for vegetarians as well.

Westernized pseudo Thai/Asian without much atmosphere, authenticity, consistency, or consciousness. As some others have said, these dishes - and even the menu - seem to have been thoughtlessly put together. The pad thai was so horrible (sickeningly sweet) I would not finish it.

I went to this place last year when I was in Flagstaff and had a great meal however this time it wasn't so good. Newly remodeled and expanded the place looks great, new bathrooms, bar, more room around the tables. The appetizers we ordered we just OK and the portions didn't compare to the prices. The service was so-so. Very impersonal. My daughter had to chase down the server because she noticed that the server had written down the wrong order for my wife. When the food did come the portions were so small, not like the last visit a year ago. My daughter made mention of the small portions as soon as the plates arrived at the table. Were these lunch portions at dinner prices? All the food tasted OK but I was hungry when I left. That shouldn't happen after appetizers and an entree. I guess they had to pay for the expansion by dialing down their portions. Can't recommend a restaurant that leaves you craving for more food.

I've always had great food here. Whenever anyone comes from out of town I take them here. Good lunch prices until 4. One of the only places that can make food spicy enough for me. Just ask for "Thai hot" and you get the hotest food. They have some of the best Thai food I've had since I went to Thailand years ago.

Bangkok Thai which is located on the other side of town on 4th Street and is owned by the same people is better. the menu is the same, but the ambiance of the restaurant is 100% better. See my review for that restaurant and then head over there instead.

Very busy, excellent service. Food was a little hit and miss, but really much better than I expected for a small town and some of the vegan/vegetarian options were excellent (recommendation: Num Tofu). Bottom line: decent if not super special Thai (somewhat Westernized) food.

Crispy shrimp and duck come with a sauce that's like crack...it's so indescribably good. Their pad thai is classically good. Really great place that Flagstaff locals love.

I don't understand all the negative reviews. I always enjoy the food here. The Tom Yum soup has alot of flavor, lots of lemongrass, slices of galancga and other herbs. The duck curry and evil jungle princess are both very good curries.

A little run-down, but very busy (at least when we went) place with decent food. I was happy enough with my meal, although not overly impressed.

I'd say I would try every other restaurant in Flagstaff before going here again. The staff was less than pleasant and the food was.. eh.

Went here for lunch -- mistake number one. I ordered the "Arizona Heat" -- mistake number two. It comes with soup or salad, and I opted for the salad -- mistake number three. I suffered the consequences of my last mistake first. I cannot say anything good about the salad. The peanut sauce based salad dressing is way overdone. The greens were wilted. If there was anything else in the salad other than wilted lettuce, it was hiding very well. I would have been better off with the soup, which my wife ordered and let me sample. My second mistake, the red curry, was edible, but it had as much similarity to red curry as a Big Mac has to Filet Mignon. The white rice they serve was dry -- liked they cooked it last night and reheated for lunch. My daughter had the "Tropical Heat" (green curry) which was a little better. If I were to come here again (which I won't) that would be my choice. The restaurant experience itself was also below average. My water glass has lipstick smears around the rim. When I pointed this out to our server, she gave me a nervous smile and walked away for what I hoped was to fetch a clean glass, but apparently for some other purpose. My wife and daughter drained their water glasses, never to be refilled. Summation -- skip this place for lunch.

When my wife and I are in Flagstaff and we want consitantly good Thai food we visit Dara Thai. We have visited a number of other shops but nothing else measures up to Dara Thai.

Dara Thai is blah. It tastes cheap and dirty. I don't know how else to describe it. The service is pretty crappy and the food is eh. It's dark and dusty too. Little Thai Kitchen is way better and Pato Thai is even better than that.

This restaurant was an incredible disappointment. While the service was fine, the atmosphere of the restaurant is a little cold and a little run down. But, that's not what disappoints. It's the food. The food was terrible (although edible). It was as if they had thrown it together so that it was technically what we ordered but the taste was thoughtless and bland. The food even looked like they had put it together with their eyes closed. The vegetables were the worst part. As is often the case, there were few vegetables in the dishes. And the ones that were there tasted old and possibly freeze-burned (especially the string beans). Interestingly, we noticed lots of people taking their leftovers home in doggy bags. Since most people don't feet leftover Thai food to their dogs, I'm guessing that means the other diners really liked their dinners. We ordered all vegetarian food so possibly the meat dishes are better.
