I used to eat here a few times when I worked for the railroad out of Williams. That was back in 2008, and sadly, it seems it has gone down the tubes since I've been gone. On my last swing through here in August of '15, we ordered a pizza and an order of potato skins, and both rated as "OK" The skins seemed like they were made in the restaurant, but lacked the pizzazz they should have. Too thick? Not cooked through enough? Something in them was lacking. The pizza? Again, it was "OK" drenched in cheese that seemed to swallow the whole pizza, leaving the green chile to be small flecks of green on a sparsely pepperoni cratered moonscape. The ambiance, is still the same, "rundown" pizza parlor it was, great for people watching as tourists, locals, and transients roll past your window. Finally, the service... Ugh. We had a server who was baked... More so than the potato skins (actually, that wouldn't be hard to accomplish). Perhaps I've worked for the railroad in the real world, but if you're too stoned to the point where you're barely functional to work pizza, you may have gone too far. I understand Alpine's motto is "The Highest Pizza Joint in Arizona", but, I digress. For the money and value, cross the railroad tracks (safely, that means NOT crossing once the lights start flashing), to Fratelli's (Sad emoticon here for my sadness of seeing writing up one of my favorite places this way.)

Friendly hippies offering you relaxed and chill service/atmosphere. You have to carve your name into their wooden booths.

Pizza is not as good as I remember. I got delivery and it was pretty disgusting. I read another review and someone described their cheese as "plasticy".... I would say this is the perfect term ever though it's not a real word. I would give 1 star for customer service, I don't need to be treated like I'm a nuisance. Pizzas good but not good enough to deal with your attitude phone girl.

Great atmosphere to hide from the psychotic road hogging bicyclists of flagstaff. They think they own the streets. There is a nice pub feel in here without alcohol stuff shoved in your face. The dart board and pool table are nice touches. Salads are good. Pizza is a thinner style and they seem to like to bake them crunchy. But they are not thin thin. Lots of cheese. Prices are at the upper level of acceptable.

The pizza it's self is great! The service was kinda,,,, blah!? The two waitresses didn't seem very happy and were not very nice.

This pizza place has been a popular Flagstaff destination for college students since the 70's, and it shows, because as soon as you enter, it feels as if you stepped through time, evident by the decor and the many hundreds of messages etched in the tables and the walls of the place, dating I believe as far back as the 1980's. I went here soon after I first moved here and was pretty impressed with it. However it is also important to note that it was about 1:00 in the morning and I was also drunk at the time (those being the days when I wasn't as mature as I am now) and in search of some cheap food to settle my tummy. That being said, I had not gone back in the years since, and I was recently given the opportunity to go here with a group of friends and we were in search of a cheap place to eat since we are poor graduate students. Would this place hold up as well as my heart as it did all those years ago when I was younger and drunker? Sadly, it didn't. First, let me talk about the food. I got the lunch special with 2 slices of pizza with one topping and a fountain soda, which clocked at under $5. This in itself, makes going here worthwhile, especially if you are hungry and in need of a cheap meal. While I remembered that this was not the best pizza I have ever had, I found it more inedible compared to my memory of it. That is not to say that it was bad, it was just cheap tasting. The dough tasted like it was watered down a bit and the sauce was too herby and abundant on my slice. The cheese however, was great, and it was spread generously on the slices which also contributed to its ability to be edible. As far as the service is concerned, no complaints here. The staff I interacted with were friendly, accommodating, and seemed to have a lot of pride in the place. Overall, it was not a bad experience for a group gathering. The pizza could have been much better, however at least it is a step up from Little Caesars.

Can't judge the food but the service was horrible. We ordered a pepperoni pizza for our 10 year old son and paid for it. Host told us it would be quick, about 10 minutes. We decided to wait in line for a game of pool & play. We inquired at 20 minutes, 30 minutes later and finally at 40 minutes later when we asked about our pizza again we got nothing but an attitude from the cashier, acting like we were bothering him. We asked for our money back so we could go else where and he could barely figure out how to refund us our money. The waitress seemed very upset & was yelling at him for "doing this again, all night." Seems like it would have been a fun place to eat, but never got to do so. A better place to try that was delicious and had much better service is Criollo, and is less than a 2 minute walk from this restaurant.

Delicious! The pizza here is SO good. We enjoyed having a late dinner here in our corner booth. The place is super cute with it's wooden booths. Names are carved into the wood from many many years of patrons. The pizza was made with fresh ingredients and tasted very good. The service was top notch. The waitress was young, friendly, willing to take a couple pictures of us, and on top of our drinks and food order. I can't wait to go back and have another slice of this pizza!

This places serves a purpose: to grab a nice slice of cheesy, saucy pizza before a few drinks on the town. It's dark and dingy and definitely doesn't put forth a high-class pretense, and that's okay. After all, I WANTED to come here to sate my pizza craving before a few drinks on the town. However... it just wasn't good. I'm not a pizza snob at all. I just wanted a nice simple pizza. It just tasted bad, uncooked flour, weird sauce, "plastic-y" cheese (I don't even know if that's a word, but I can't think of another term to describe it). This pizza isn't the cheapest in town, and all it would take to bring this pizza to another level is slightly better ingredients (which for the price I'm paying, I expect). I wouldn't rank this pizza above Little Caesar's. Go to NiMarco's before you come here. Added a star for having cheap, decent beer.

I've loved Alpine Pizza since the '80s. We just stopped by again and it was good, service was good, beer was good. All at an acceptable price. The place isn't a fancy place but no measure, but it's always good and I love them the way they are. No I don't know them, live in California, just love to drop in driving up,the 40 through Flagstaff.

Had dinner here while staying the night in flagstaff. Pizza was delicious - salad was good and they poured large glasses of vino. My mom remembered this place from 25 years ago when she was a student at NAU and was thrilled to see its still open! Definitely a great spot for a casual dinner

  • David C.

Pizza was amazing! Got the Special Deluxe, no sausage. Was delicious. The Potato Skins were a little under cooked and didn't arrive earlier than the pizza even though they were an app, but the pizza made up for it. Staff was friendly and responsive.

Service was bad, pizza was cold , table was dirty and the glass for my soda was dirty. I heard great things when I asked around about this place. Checked the reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I think I might give it anther try but I won't really go out of my way.

Ordered on 7/31/15 through OrderInn. Food was cold and didn't even get complete order. Delivery guy said he would bring the rest of the order asap and that was at 9:20pm well at midnight he wasn't back. I called Order Inn several times and was assured that it would be delivered and if it wasn't there would be a refund for items that were missing. Well here it is 8/3/15 and no resolution. I even called on 8/1/15 @ 10:57am and spoke to a employee that said the manager would call back. Still waiting for this call.

If I could give it a negative amount of stars I would! I went in thinking dirty but I will give it a try. Waiter gave us drinks and never came back. So while I've been sitting here I figured I would give some feed back on what a horrible experience this place has been.

I am shocked as shirts that this place only garners an average of three stars. I visit Alpine Pizza every time I'm passing through Flagstaff... and I'm from Rhode Island, home of the best pizza in North America (look it up). I love this place. Here's why. After a long day's drive from San Diego (my "other home"), Alpine provides a cozy and slightly funky atmosphere in which to relax and overeat and drink pitchers of beer. People complain about the prices... REALLY?!? I have been here as a "party of two" on several occasions, and we have yet to be able to finish a pizza (and I am a pig... no, seriously, I can eat a crapton of pizza). So given that we're likely to get at least one meal of leftovers out of the experience, it hardly seems pricey. The crust on the pizza is neither New York thin nor Chicago thick... it's kinda in between, like the pizza I grew up with. It's topped with a zesty tomato sauce (thank you... bland sauce sinks 80% of the pizzas I eat in my life) and what seems to be POUNDS of cheese and toppings. Someone gave a one-star review based their petty little complaint that the staff supplied a knife and actually expected diners to CUT THEIR OWN SLICES OF PIZZA!!! WAH WAH WAH, I got a blister on my thumb cuz I had to cut a slice of pizza, boo hoo hoo!!!!! Well yeah, ya big New York sissy, when the pizza weighs five pounds you gotta do a little work! We Rhode Islanders know how to saw our way through a substantial pie... grow some stones! Sheesh! Moral of the story: if you like dainty thin-crust oven-fired pizzas topped with goat cheese and arugula and heirloom tomato reduction, go somewhere else. If you've been driving all day or hiking all day at the canyon and you want some fresh, high-quality, flavorful food in BIG portions, go here. The staff has always seemed friendly and efficient to me, although I admit it is typically YEARS between my visits, so YMMV. I like the feel of the place, all of the initials and other inscriptions carved into every wooden surface... it's very comfortable, no muss no fuss. I'm planning a drive up to Flagstaff in January with my wife and kids, and YES, Alpine Pizza is on the itinerary.

We had the small pepperoni (good for 1-2), had 2 slices left over between two of us. Being from NJ where pizza is king, the pizza here was excellent. Tight booths, but large tables. Will come back when we're in the area!

Nothing fancy. Just great thin pizza. It's a must stop destination any time we're passing through Flagstaff. A no frills, casual atmosphere in a surprisingly cool downtown. Do it.

Visiting my family from California for the holidays and had the worst experience ever. The bus boy began cleaning the table next to us with windex. When i told him our food and drinks all taste like windex his reply was "well im NOT spraying it in your food" . I asked him to try eating food with someone spaying windex. ...he just gave us a dirty look. I asked to speak with a manager but i was told they didn't need one...hmmmm hope owners read this so no one else has to experience this especially during the holidays!

I love this pizza place!! It's a little hole in the wall but their food is delicious! Wings are insanely good and I've never had such delicious pizza since moving from Boston. Staff is always nice and courteous. I bring all my friends and family here!

We were looking for a place to have dinner with the kiddos... Since this area is mostly all pubs/bars that caters to the NAU students and most everyone riser had ridiculous wait times, this cute little pizza joint was a welcome sight! We were lucky enough to eat outside on a beautiful night! Our server was REALLY nice! We had great service & the wait staff kept coming by to refill my 3 daughter's drinks! We had wings, a Caesar salad, a specialty pizza, & a pepperoni. It was better than average, and the crust has an old-school cracker-type taste to it. FRESH INGREDIENTS are definitely a plus here! Was it the best food I've ever had in my life? No, but I was pleasantly surprised & left happy! People shouldn't be expecting michelin-star rated food from a college pizza place! Overall, a good choice for a family (if you get to sit outside) if you're looking for pizza in Flagstaff!

Two large cheese pizzas for $37. Are you kidding me. This is flagstaff, not Scottsdale. Pizza was super cheesy, and the cheese was kind of plastic-y. If that is even a word. Not worth the price, and a mediocre to subpar pizza to boot...

  • Kate M.

The food was good, nothing too special. Big portions which is nice. But our server was THE WORST. She acted as if we were the biggest inconvenience in the world. So incredibly rude, never smiled and super snappy with us. I will not return due to the service from the brunette with the glitter eyeshadow.

Service is so bad , servers have a very bad attitude when you order something , they don't provide proper silverware unless you ask for it , when the order was taken they bring the dishes all wrong and then they get mad at you because we complain about, chicken wings were cold and almost raw, meatballs with out marinara sauce that was so revolting, we just had to cancel the whole order and go to other place to have a good meal and better service. But we still have to pay $60 dlls for 6 children spaghettis and drinks, So sad this place is going down ,We just to enjoy going to flagstaff and ended up having a good pizza at this place , not anymore.

Stopped in on a friend's recommendation. Got a large pepperoni pizza. It was pretty tasty! They really load the sauce & cheese on their pizzas which I like. Tables need to be wiped down though. We looked a few & all had crumbs on them. But the important part is pizza was good.

I came here with my large family tonight. It was dead so we were seated immediately. Service was ok so I can complain there. They were out of anything carbonated though so we were left with lemonade, iced tea, or water. The lemonade may have just been water because it lacked flavor. The wings were decent but we felt a bit too high priced. The pizza was mediocre. They seemed to only cut it a little bit in large pieces and left us knives to finish their job. The Supreme was lacking in toppings. For a pizza that costs almost 30 bucks alone I was not impressed. The atmosphere was really dive bar feeling. The place is filled with graffiti and the bathrooms are horribly lit. Probably a decent place to drink and have a pizza if you don't mind dropping that kind of money but frankly I would prefer other options. Parking was also a nightmare.

I love alpine pizza. Whenever I have guests come visit me, I take them to alpine because to me, it just feels very "flagstaff-y". The pizza is pretty good. The wings Are awesome! The service is sort of dodgy sometimes. Depends on who you get. I must say, this place is somewhat pricey for what it is. But overall, This place is a definite must if your ever in flagstaff!!!(:

  • Rachel W.

Mediocre, WAY expensive pizza and wings. I think a 12" pizza with one topping and wings turned out to be almost $30. Really? Service was meh, our waitress was super inattentive and never refilled our waters or replaced napkins without us asking. Also, the tables are extremely uncomfortable. I don't recommend sitting in the log booths. My ass was numb for an hour after I left.

Great Pizza! Service leaves more to be desired. I loved the atmosphere and when we first got there we sat down and ordered. After we received our meal, not much in the service. Server didn't give us our bill even though we were obviously done. Had to ask front clerk for bill, then no one offered a take home box. We actually walked into the kitchen to get the box ourselves. We are from out of town, but the regulars(you could tell who they were) got great service. A more attentive staff would be nice and probably would have earned a 5 star review.

  • Rebecca H.

I really enjoyed going here! The atmosphere when I first walked in was very friendly and relaxed, making me automatically comfortable. The decor on the inside is also very cool, with wooden booths. The food was delicious and not too expensive, I definitely received what I payed for. I ordered the individual cheese pizza and was very happy with it. However, the portions were very big, and I wish I was warned about that. I struggled to finish half the pizza, and would have probably ordered a smaller portion or split with somebody if I knew how much food I would be getting. All of the food was delicious though, and very well priced.

The place was dead inside when I walked in a little after 1 PM on Wednesday. It started to thunder outside at the very moment I walked in, the sky thick with swollen clouds. In minutes, I knew it would rain with a vengeance. I ordered a slice of pizza and a cup of water. What would I like as a topping? Sausage. No wait. Pineapple! Then I had the privilege to sit anywhere. Because no one was there. I chose the front porch at first. It was a far table to the far left, in a far corner, with a tangerine-colored table cover. On top were all the seasonings that I typically add on my pizza: parmesan cheese, red pepper, garlic, black pepper. I waited for my order. The waiter placed a cup of water with ice in front of me. He was young. Looked like a freshman in college. Eager. Restlessly eager. After ten minutes, my slice was situated before me. I was given a fork, knife and side of ranch on request. I knew what to expect with this slice. I'd been here a few times. Basically, my one slice consisted of two slices. It started to rain after I received my pizza. A whale-sized gust of wind sprayed cold water onto my legs, making my squirm. I wore shorts so that splash of wetness alarmed me. I scurried inside, with my pizza, water and purse. I ate my pizza watching the rain show, happy to be in a dry place. As I munched, I decided to look at the menu. I noticed the beer and wine selection. There was the basic draft beer. Most were $4.50 a pint, $10 to $12 a pitcher. And a basic wine selection: white, pinot grigio, merlot. $5 for a cup, and $19 to $22 for a bottle of it. The food menu itself had a lot of options: (6) garlic toast for $5.95, add cheese for $1.00, the House Special sandwich (with onions, mushrooms, black olives, bell peppers, pepperoni, ham, mayonnaise and cheese) for $8.95. An individual 9" pizza with just cheese and marinara sauce for $8.71. A large 16" pizza with 4-6 toppings for $27.25. There's a whole Chef Salad for $9.95, and for dessert, one can buy Cheese Cake for $3.95. I sat at a tiny, wooden booth with etchings carved in them, of people's names, a heart, a peace sign. It gave this place character, a history. Later, I spotted a modern TouchTunes, and because I'd been here before, I knew there was a pool table further into the restaurant. There were a few times I played pool here too. I know there's always different servers working here. I know there's a lot of controversy about this place. But I left a five dollar bill when it stopped raining, feeling full, and happy that I could afford this pizza.

Called for delivery and it's the only place we could find that is open past 9pm. Guy who answered was extremely professional and friendly and helped make a quick and easy order for our delivery! Got our food, a large pizza and large salad, and came way faster than they said which was awesome! Chicken on the salad was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the pizza was hot and delicious... Would order from again if we visit here more!

Stopped by here for dinner while in the middle of a bar crawl through downtown Flagstaff. The Pizza was alright.... It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything worth mentioning either. Regardless it was definitely not worth the price we payed for it. They had a great selection of beers on tap; but of course the beer I had chosen was flat... The only positive I have to say for Alpine was the waitress was incredibly nice and entertained us while we waited for our food. (We were the only people inside). Next time around I will find somewhere else to eat...

One night my friends and I decided to go out for dinner. We were craving pizza so we went to a pizza near campus only to find out they were closed. We did not want to be defeated so we went to downtown to see if any pizza places were open. We arrived to Alpine pizza and being a foodie that I am I lost my appetite when I stepped into the doors. The first thing that I noticed when we arrived was the smell of beer. The restaurant served beer but I think it was weird that the restaurant aroma was beer and not pizza. As we were seated I ordered a glass of water only to find something floating on top of it. I was grossed out by the smell of the restaurant and the cleanliness of it. I did not order anything because I knew that the pizza was not going to be worth my money. I was right! My friends ordered a mushroom pizza and when it arrived they hesitated to eat it because it did not look appetizing at all. The color of the cheese looked orange and the description on the menu said the cheese was 100% mozzarella. I felt sorry for my friends because they were expecting a delicious pizza but to their disappointment they ate a bland pizza. Their remarks was that little Caesar would have been better than what they ate at Alpine. Another disappointment would be the service, our waiter only waited on us three times for serving our drinks/taking our order and dropping off the check. Keep in mind that they do not split the check, which is inconvenient if you are with your friends and the only thing you have on you is a credit/debit card. Overall, save your money because Alpine is not worth the $20 for low quality pizza and service. If you want to have great pizza go to either Fratelli's or NiMarco's, or any other pizza place in Flag.

I was out on the town the other night and I got a mad case of the hiccups. I decided I needed food, and there it was-- Alpine Pizza, still open fairly late into the night. I asked them for a slice and they said they didn't make them after 5 pm (or something like that). "Please," I said, " I have (HIC!) hiccups!" They said ok. For about $2, I got a huge slice of pizza. I mean, it was basically a small pizza, not a slice! And it was awesome. And warm. And crunchy and gooey! Okay, maybe I was only really in love with this slice of pizza because of my starvation and hiccup problems. But it solved them all! Also, the atmosphere of the place is very ski-lodge-bar. It's a good place to relax for lunch or dinner!

  • Stormey B.

I just had my worst pizza experience at Alpine! The service was horrible; our waiter brought us (party of two) one fork for a shared Caesar salad, our drink cups sat empty waiting to be refilled for a very long time, not one of our plates was cleared from the table before we left (appetizer, salad, pizza plates all crowded our table during our meal). The restaurant was freezing and all of the patrons were wearing their coats. Although the pizzas were very large (an individual size could easily feed two people), they were really mediocre at best and I wouldn't call them worth their price. Alpine was once upon a time a great place to eat, but some service and quality standards have fallen.

We ordered Alpine pizza because they were the only pizza place that delivers after 10pm. Unfortunately we were disappointed because the pizza was just not that good. The dough seemed like it was uncooked and COVERED in flour. The cheese tasted like cheap microwavable pizza. We didn't even finish it. I would not recommend Alpine pizza.

  • Natalie P.

Worst. Spaghetti. Ever. I get that it's a pizza place but I would rather eat my scarf dipped in marinara over this excuse of a pasta dish. I never leave food and honestly didn't feel bad for leaving half my plate. Meatballs tasted like plain ground beef with no salt and on top of that the plate came out cold. Never ever ever ever ever again.

  • Josh G.

While the atmosphere of Alpine was pleasantly social, the lack of customers made me worried. Monday night is always pizza night though, so I had to try it out. With not so many great pizza places in Flagstaff, this place was no exception. The price is way too high for the cheap quality pizza. The menu did not emphasize on pizza either, even though it is apparently a big deal for them. The crispy crust was the best part about the pizza, so it went without saying " I can't wait to get to the end of each piece." Literally. I don't think I'll be back unless I suddenly get rich. Stay away if you're a college kid on a budget, but try it for yourself if you want a warm (ew) beer with a warm (not hot) pizza served in a tiny, social room.

I wouldn't recommend coming here to anyone there appetizer we ordered was recommended by waitress she said its a big plate full of potato skins well all I have to say was plate was big but less food was on it got more sour cream then potato skins for a crazy price of $5.56 really dinky potatoes . The pizza wasn't worth the wait asked to bacon pepperoni an jalapeño there wasn't any sign of bacon whatsoever and waitress was hesitant at even giving us price as a two toping pizza instead of 3 also pizza was cold when Received it ,cheese was chewy that was on pizza . Price was still outrageous 30$ on a meal that no one liked. Disappointing when expected to be very good since price was high priced. Also you don't get real plates to eat on you get paper plate . Don't eat here its a waste of $ there are other places in flag that are way better. Won't be returning here ever again and will tell ppl to avoid here.

Check out my full review here: christietime.com/2012/09… Overally, this place was a great, casual pizza joint with a great beer selection as well. It is family friendly and the wait staff was stellar. We went pretty late on a weeknight, so I can't say how crazy it might get when school's in session on a weekend, but our experience here was just what we needed after a long travel day.

I have had a lot of terrible customer service experiences in my life but you guys take the cake! Being told 35-50 minutes for my delivery, then calling back at the 1hr 15min mark....being told "we have 3 delivery drivers out, you should be getting it any moment"...15 minutes later I called back to find out that the delivery driver "tried to call me". I never received any phone call, apparently the cashier took down my number with FOUR wrong numbers in it.... IF THATS NOT BAD... Your delivery driver shows up with a whopping $5 discount.... (40min late) which knocked it down to $30.... your delivery driver had ONLY $2 for change....leaving me in a position to give him an $8 tip... After all of that....COLD PIZZA, COLD GARLIC CHEESE BREAD.........WORST $38 I HAVE EVER SPENT.... I understand it is a Flagstaff tradition to provide bad customer service...but really Alpine....REALLY.... Absolutely Terrible.

I love this hole-in-the-wall pizza joint! The price is awesome for a slice (which is so big, it's really 2-slices). We paid $2.45 for a slice of special deluxe (peperoni, sausage, green pepper, onions, black olives). That, coupled with a glass of homemade lemonade, made for a perfect summertime meal. I think I'm too old for the cramped, dark, stuffy inside seating....we opted to sit out on the patio to enjoy the lovely 82 degree weather (compared to the Phoenix 108 temps we were escaping from). Try it out!

My husband & I were on a day trip to take our puppy to see snow. We parked the car and walked around until we found a place we could sit outside with our pup and eat. We found it at Alpine Pizza. When we sat on the patio with our puppy, the waitress even asked us if we needed a bowl of water. :D They had a spaghetti special that my husband gives a four out of five stars. I had a "slice" of cheese pizza that I too would give a four out of five stars. Note.... a "slice" is actually more like two huge slices. Not a skimpy little piece! Our waitress was very friendly, even answering our tourist-type questions about Flagstaff. We would definitely go back there again!!

Holy Stromboli Batman! Yeah, I had the stromboli, was HUGE! Came with side salad. Was stuffed halfway through. Good service, good food. Will likely be back.

Service was great. The beer was cool but not cold. The pizza came speedy quick. The pie was ok. The toppings were sparse and it had a lot of sauce. Definitely 3 stars.

Had pizza and house salads. All Ingredients were fresh. Pizza crust was cooked thru but oddly totally white; sauce was thick, zesty. The toppings were v e r y sparse - needed to double or triple the amount! The salad was basic, fresh- good.

Service was pretty bad. Our waiter never removed old drink glasses or plates. We were up to our elbows by the end of our lunch. The pizza was ok. The sauce was very sweet and the crust tasted like cardboard.

The crust is the best I have ever tasted!!! The pizza is very flavorful as is the sauce. The toppings are hearty and very delicious. I can't get enough of this pizza. It sounds like they have some quality control issues from reading the other reviews but each time I have been there I have not been disappointed because I find the pizza to be sooooo delicious. I love their salad too! I would like to buy this place if it is up for sale.

I was really in between two and three stars on this one. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to go toward the lower end. Alpine Pizza just can't compare to the variety of pies I've tasted around the country. On the afternoon of my visit, my hot date and I grabbed a sunny spot on the patio in some excellent weather. Unfortunately, two smokers showed up shortly after us and decided to light up on the patio. This, clearly, isn't allowed in Flagstaff (or anywhere else for that matter). Luckily, our server kindly asked them to stop and informed them they must smoke off of the patio. They, of course, chose to smoke about one foot away...that didn't exactly give our meal a good start. Anyway, the service was pretty good and our food was decent, but just really not anything to brag about. The pizza was a bit greasy and the calzone we tried was really lacking flavor. The fillings we chose were all jumbled together in one place instead of being spread evenly throughout. The cheese was in one giant lump and when we tried to eat, we mostly got bites of bread. All in all, our visit was just nothing to be excited about. I'll try somewhere new the next time I'm in Flag.

'I don't want fucking pizza!' My petulance was astonishing. Fortunately the late afternoon libations eroded my ignorant resolve. Alpine Pizza was a terrific spot for a casual evening nosh. Past the intimate patio set up off of Leroux St lies a helpful guide directing you to an open seat. We contorted into a rustic booth with all kinds of graffiti and vandalism - ostensibly it's encouraged (now featuring J N B 4 EVA) - and drank in the surroundings. A perfectly suitable dining room to our right - the main reception and order area to our left - just off the kitchen. Large menus on the wall list the specialties and offerings. A quick scan of the drinks menu saw $2 PBR pounder cans, easing any concerns of the pending dairy splurge. An order for a 14 inch pepperoni beauty was submitted as the tall can was cracked. Small talk was made, you know, the cute stuff that oozes out after a few Dews and brews. Quips about the clientele; inane fantasies about families masquerading as a roving killing cabal, the usual. Then it came: a delightful orb with perfectly-singed toppings, only a slick of perfunctory grease, and excitingly-crisp throughout. The next 15 minutes was all business - then an inaudible bark for a box to smuggle the remnants back to our temporary abode. Further quality checks at 11p-ish...and 830a the following morning made it official: Alpine does some tasty fucking pie.

Just a little left to be desired. This seems more like a hangout for kids to work and talk with each other than it does a legit pizza shop. It has so much potential: old school cozy interior, super local, diverse group of customers, wood plank booths that are carved to hell AND a local dog with a fleece tied out front. We ordered garlic bread, jalapeno pizza and a house salad. I like tha the pizza did not look like a perfect circle. They make their pizzas in a way that drives me insane. Based on what we got, it looked like the pizza dewd in the back grabbed a fist full of toppings and just tossed them in the middle of the dough between bong rips. I HATE getting one slice with toppings and the next totally void of the goodies. Don't half step. If you are not a major cheese fan, tell them to go easy on the cheese....they have a heavy hand!

Wow, things have gone downhill here. The pizza we had tonight tasted of yeast, and uncooked flour. It was under-baked and doughy. The Price for a large 2 item pizza and a dozen wings was $34 and change. Come on Danny, you can do better!

I've been going to Flagstaff for years and each and every time you best believe I'll pay a visit to Alpine. Anchovies on a pizza? Hell yeah! They do it right! Their pies are so good I make myself sick each and every time I go. (I end up eating way, way, way too much.) Alpine Pizza, pretty much the only great thing about Flag.

    (4)
  • Erin U.

super disappointing, over rated pizza and under whlemimg service...with all of the amazing local eats in flagstaff, you are better off patronizing a local business that cares...

Nice friendly neighborhood pizza joint, like the ones where I grew up, New York. Prices are fair, portions are large. Pool table, beer. But if your a Pizza Hut, Domino's lover you may not like Alpine. Their pizza dough and sauce are very traditional with some new twists like wholewheat crust.

Clearly, this is a 'locals only' place, after reading the reviews from the folks who are 'passing through' Flag. Alpine Pizza is an institution in Flagstaff. Same owners have served Flagstaff since the early 70's. No, this is not Oreganos Pizza, and I'm thankful for that! The pizza is really good and unique. Beer selection is good, prices are nice, service is fantastic, and you just can't beat the ambiance. Perfect college town pizza and beer hang out. My name is carved into one of the booths from 1986... you can't beat history like that! :) Don't go changin', Alpine Pizza! We love you!

This pizza is fantastic! The atmosphere is even better. The service from our waitress sucked, but that is fine as the pizza more than made up for it. If you are in the area, check it out!

This was our first visit to Flagstaff's oldest pizzeria (orig. 1973). We'd heard the pizza was extra special here and wanted to see for ourselves. So we stopped by Wednesday afternoon 8/24. We started out with a chicken cesar salad. The salad was big enough for two, but it came with at least 50 croutons - (we were able to eat about 20) - and if you can believe this, TOO much chicken. I know, I know, how can anyone complain about too much chicken? Well, usually I wouldn't say anything but there was hardly any romaine lettuce. The salad was mainly croutons and chicken! The dressing was OK, a little ranch and some house italian. Alpine Pizza is very proud of their pizza and they don't give it away at any kind of a bargain price - it's $18.57 for a two-topping 14-incher. We asked for sausage and green peppers on a crispy crust. I'll have to praise Alpine for getting the crust right except for the two bubbles on the border......the crust might be one of the finest I've tasted, just in terms of crust. But the chef skimped on the sauce and ingredients so the pie came out of the oven dry and disappointing. I would've sent the pizza back, but we were on a schedule and couldn't wait another 20 minutes for a replacement. Overall, we felt taken by the hype surrounding what turned out to be just another mediocre pizza joint....we won't return, not with Oregano's in town.

Quirky atmosphere, tasty pizza. We were there on or just before Halloween for lunch and the place was filled with costumed, rowdy and very intoxicated college students. Some of them could barely stand up and more than one plant got knocked over, much to the obvious chagrin of the wait staff. The food was good, the service was friendly (and apologetic). Would like to give it a try again sometime with a slightly less obnoxious crowd. BONUS: The waitress felt so bad that we had to move tables (due to the falling down revelers) that she comped our sodas. Favorite pizza in Flagstaff? No. But worth going to if you're looking for an interesting local eatery.

It was an icy cold day and the pizza was hot. After a day in snow a good place to come. College influence, names carved on all tables. I'll be back.

not bad on a monday when you are from out of town and not much else is open, or you dont really know where else to go. Food was ok, server was solo, and seemed hardworking. Judging by the reviews of this and other pizza places in flagstaff, I would have looked elsewhere.

    (3)
  • Amanda B.

The pizzas and calzones are both adequate, though nothing spectacular. A little fresh basil on both and less ricotta in the calzone and everything would have improved significantly. Adequate food, adequate prices, adequate services. If you're downtown, craving pizza, and don't feel like Ni Marcos, it's worth a trip, but it certainly won't blow your socks off and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for it. We used to order from Alpine regularly and I recall it being much better, but the memory is also four years old.

    (2)
  • Paul G.

I would skip this place. The pizza is just ok....in the dominos category....certainly nothing like oreganos. skip it. oh, it's also a bit expensive. medium pizza, side salad, no drinks was $30. the salad alone was $7 and it was a simple side deal. not worth the money

Good pizza. Good food. Not rushed service. My standards aren't particularly high as just being in Flagstaff makes me happy... but I'd come back as it wasn't awful either.

Ok it is on the divey side, but in a good way. We love the pizza and the calzone is great.

  • Jason M.

This pizza is good. Not spectacular but it's good in it's own way. I am a big pizza snot! But Over many years you realize that pizza can be good in different ways. It does not have to fit one mold and if it does not fit that one mold it is not good! Thats BS! I see some reviews that say its at the same level as Dominoes. No that is not even close to true, some say Oregeno's is better, Umm no I don't think so (BTW Oregeno's is or has gone Corp. No longer a locally owned joint...blah!!!!) . Oregeno's is not real pizza IMO. Is it good? Yes but In the pizza category it's barely pizza just like its barely Italian. Alpine has been around for a long time for a good reason. It has decent yummy pizza. Is it the best I have had, no way, not even close. Sure it's not Fancy or Gourmet, it's just pizza kids! You have plenty of ways to make it good. I can say it is better than Nimarco's or some other locals. But in all honesty it has decent pizza, good atmosphere and good beer. What can be bad about that?

  • Lawrence N.

Interior felt like a frathouse basement but I guess you get what you pay for. They had slice prices left over from the 80's or something. I swear I had more than I could eat and my bill was somewhere around $3. I'd go to this place again, maybe order take out though.

Seriously good pizza!!! Really nice staff, casual setting (very) and we both loved our pizza. Smelled a little like cleaner when I 1st walked in so only 4 stars, but 5 star food! I'm having leftovers for breakfast right now. :-)

  • Mauricio L.

I almost didnt write a review since I saw that everyone else has already said what I wanted to say, but here it goes anyway. Four people walk in at around 1pm hoping for something good and cheap. We only got cheap. The waitress was about as dull as their sauce, did not crack a single smile, no refills, she was cute, but no personality. That would have been fine if the food had been good. I ordered a slice of chicken and spinach, which apparently was 1 piece of chicken, 1 leaf of spinach and some blad cheese that was chewy and gross, and practically no sauce on the pizza. Only pro, you are allowed to carve anything you want on the wooden surfaces of the restaurant. If you find "Mojo 1/14/09" I'll buy a slice of Alpine Pizza!

  • Marcos L.

I drank hundreds of pitchers of beer here over the course of my studies, many years back. Have no recollection at all about the pizza or the service - I think if we got any kind of service at all we considered ourselves lucky. I've gone in a couple times in recent years and it seems about the same. I'm not, though, (the same, that is) which makes a difference. For one thing, those backless wood benches aren't as comfy as they used to be... Advice: Come for beer. After many, many beers, the service and pizza are juuussst fiiiine.

    (3)
  • Maryann M.

Fun atmosphere...names carved into every available bit of wood, including the tables and walls. The pizza sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, but the pizza was generally good. Small-ish dinner salad for $4.99 which the menu said included garlic toast. When the waitress brought the garlic toast, it was one tiny piece, about the size of the palm of your hand. Not exactly a great value.

Ok, 1 star is harsh, but we didn't even get to eat. Wouldn't that be zero by definition? Here's the story: 8pm: We enter the restaurant and wait at the door to be seated. Two people are working behind the bar 5 ft from us, but fail to acknowledge our presence. 8:05: We take a table in the back 8:20: After 15 minutes of being ignored by a waitress (who has been busing the adjacent table since we arrived) one of us has to physically block her path to get her attention. We're told to order at the bar (where we were standing 20 minutes ago). 8:25: It takes another 5 minutes of standing directly across the bar from an employee (presumably the manager) before an order can be placed. In the meantime a waitress has arrived at our table to take orders. Pizza is ordered at the bar, drinks are ordered from the waitress. 8:40: Neither drinks nor pizza show up. Our party of 5 walks out the front door without acknowledgment. 8:50: We sit down to a nice meal at Beaver Street Brewery. Why 1 Star? Quality: ? Ambiance: -1 Service: -2 Unable to give a negative score: +4

We were hungry, hungry hikers looking for a cold beer and good pizza. We found it all at Alpine Pizza. The crust was thin and crispy. They also had a pesto alternative for those uppity gourmet types (me). All-in-all the service and food were exactly what we needed. Thank you Alpine Pizza!

First things first - the pizza at this place was *terrible.* And I mean terrible, especially for a place that has "pizza" in its name. How do they get away with it? I'm not even a pizza snob (I'm from phoenix, not the east coast, after all) and I could barely stomach it after a 2-hour car ride AND knowing I was about to do some serious drinking that night and I needed food in my belly. It reminded me of that barely-cooked dough, waxy-cheese pizza you'd get in 3rd grade at the school cafeteria. However, they did have pitchers and imported beer bottles for relatively cheap (i.e., about $4). It was right in the mix of the downtown action, and the interior had a relatively interesting old west/log cabin feel. There seemed to be two separate dining areas, the one we sat in had about six two-person "booths." It was actually all wood seating that was tiny, cramped and slightly slanted - it kind of felt like you were about to fall out the whole time. I didn't see the other dining area, I'm guess it has larger tables - we saw a gaggle of high school students pile in and then heard them rocking karaoke. The service was decent, our waitress friendly enough, and although she forgot a beer request a couple of times she meant well and seemed busy manning the counter/phone orders also on a Friday night. So, I would not eat the pizza here again, but would stop in for a nearby beer if in the area.

Yay!! The service rocked!!! She was very friendly and informed about the menu!! We played a game of pool for .50 cents..The pizza was sooo yummy and happy hour rocks! But one beer get one free...can't beat that!!

Good pizza with decent service in a cool atmosphere and the apple pie was good. The prices are a little high for some pie, but it is right in the heart of downtown, so what can you expect.

i contemplated a two star rating, cuz i must say that this place did *sorta* curb my pizza crave. partially by being similar to pizza and partially by making me want to avoid pizza for awhile, which is a SAD day, cuz i love a good slice o' pie, but good, cuz i'm a fatty who could definitely use some time layin off the cheesy goodness that is NORMALLY pizza by definition. here is my story. up in flag, on a mission with some guys from my unit. second night in town. ally is CRAVING pizza and the night prior we passed a couple of interesting looking pizza joints. solution, lets go walk around til we hit a decent looking place, scarf a few slices and then head somewhere for the ufc fight (and omfg, i am not a ufc fan, but did you SEE that fuckin knock out punch from evans?!?!). moving on, we see alpine pizza. success, we have discovered a pizza joint. the crowd outside was a momentary cause for concern...are we gonna have to wait a long time for food? sadly, we ignored this and walked inside...to an empty restaurant...this should have been an indicator. but ALLY HUNGRY! our waitress...she looked twelve, came to take our drink order like...fifteen minutes after we got there...we order a pitcher of beer for two of the guys, a soda for me and the other dude. they came out in chunks. first one soda, then another, then some cups and the pitcher. i had no issues with my soda...oh, that's right, cuz i LOVE flat sodas. the other guys i was with complained that their cups stank. i know, i know...how is a cup stinky...the question that has baffled nations. well, the answer is hidden somewhere in the back of alpine pizza. next, we order a pie to split between three of us and the odd man out ordered a calzone since he doesn't like places where he has to think up his own flavor combination...silly, i know, but it actually does have merit when you think about it. every pizza place should have more than two specialty pizzas, even if they list a hawaiian as an option. the pie was *eh* we got half mushroom and canadian bacon and half canadian bacon and pineapple...well, we ORDERED that...we got two slices with mushrooms, two with pineapple AND mushrooms and the rest with pineapple. not a problem if you are me, but if you hate "fungus", like one of my party, you have issues with this pizza. the "meat" tasted like the ham in a ham'n'cheese hot pocket. not a flavorful and exciting taste memory...trust me, i endured it. decent size pie tho. the calzone was HUGE and apparently rated an "okay". the waitress dropped off our check after ignoring our need for refills for the ENTIRE meal and didn't tell us where to pay, so after about ten minutes of her avoiding us trying to make eye contact we had to go up front to do a quick recon of the situation. you pay at the counter?! that's good to know. we got out quickly and went to stand outside of a buffalo wild wings to watch the fight. the incredibly drunk guy chain smoking next to us was more friendly and informative than our waitress. must say, i will not return to alpine pizza.

I can't laugh too hard about the situation, as it was just yesterday, but some basics: *our waitress had no shoes *I know about how long all of the waitresses have been working there, whose boyfriend is back in town, who allows friends and other random visitors into the kitchen when on shift, who has a second job, who's worked with who and on what shifts, that two dollars is an unacceptable tip (it WAS on a 40 dollar bill, but the insult was hurled at the exiting customer as I stood at the counter to pay, nonetheless. Apparently, he wasn't so hot on the service either, and it's no wonder--I think that not insulting customers in front of other customers is sort of a touchstone of waitressing) *None of these things would have bothered me had I a) gotten a refill on my iced tea, b) been apologized to about a 45-minute wait on two sandwiches, c) received a piping hot, delicious meatball sandwich in return. Instead, the waitresses, who had to pass my station to get to the kitchen, did just that, AVOIDING making eye contact the whole time(our order went in and came out at the same time as a table of 5 who ordered calzones). The confusion may have been caused by the fact that Sally-no-shoes, who had an awesome time at the river yesterday, btw, and took my order, wasn't actually working at the time she took my order. What she was doing there was alternating between distracting anyone who was and receiving hippy visitors. I really hope she's the owner, but I sort of doubt it. *From what I saw, however, those girls can change a trash can liner like nobody's business. Actually, even taking out a total of 2 trash bags seemed to take them 20+ minutes. Yeah, I had time to notice, since my friend was still eating her (also cold) sandwich. Thanks for prompting me to prove a point mid day trip, Alpine Pizza. *The newish college girl waitress who came to work in training pants and a baby tee is a total snob. I liked no-shoes much better. *I hate to kick a dead horse, but one last thing--prices were not so good. The 9-dollar sandwiches are a joke/microwaved and hotplated till the waitresses feel like it. Perhaps calzones and pizza are better, but they came out looking like doughy monstrosities, nothing original or delicious. Too bad I chose this place, perhaps there was a reason I was able to find parking so close by. : )

Two visits to Alpine Pizza and both deserve a very good review, but I will combine them here. Fresh Pizza, hand streched dough, flavorful sauce, cooked just to the point of crisp and melted cheese. First time we tried an "everthing on it" and the second visit, order sausage, jalapeno and onion . Though months apart both visits included; good service, easy seating (no wait), quick cook time in the kitchen and a delicious product. They have a jukebox that the "kids" were playing some punk and 80's new wave, which makes me a little nostalgic. The business has been open since the 70's and have the initals of early, and more current patrons, carved into the walls and booths to prove it. A fun atmosphere that includes one pool table to go along with the pizza and pitchers of beer, great combination.

Ran out of the only beer I wanted. Used jarred garlic on my garlic bread. Pizza tasted like frozen grocery store far. Skip it.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
