I read some of the reviews and they seem to be all over the place. As far as authentic Mexican food, I wouldn't know what authentic Mexican food was if I tripped over it. With that being said, I will rate this on my own personal experience. We happened into Douglas one late Sunday afternoon. The town of Douglas seems to be empty with not much happening. That's ok. It was 2 in the afternoon and our tummies were grumbling and we wanted to grab a late lunch before heading home. First off, there are not many restaurants that we saw in Douglas so our choices seemed limited. We drove by it first not realizing it was open because there was no one in the parking lot. The second time we drove by we saw the "Open" sign. By the time we got there, we were one of two parties there at the time. Of course, service was exceptional and friendly. The chips and salsa were ok. The chips were good the salsa leaned more towards something that came from a jar. I am still not complaining here. We placed our order and the portions were oversized and generous. But...sooooo good! This is definitely one of the restaurants that we will be coming back to again.

This place is good. Get the carne asada. Prices were reasonable and the portions are pretty good. You know it's good mexican food when the border is half a mile away.

We are from out of town and have been to Chatita's a couple of times. I would just say that the inside and the service are a little odd. The food is OK. It is not terrible, it is not awesome.

This place is nothing special, i had the "parillada" and it was greasy meat and chicken cooked on a gridel not a grill or anything like it. The presentation was plain and served with blended beans and rice the only thing that was alright was the salad. No options of different salsa not even pico de gallo , they only had the sauce they severed with the chips. For it being right next to the border this place has a lot to live up to a"Mexican restaurant". Needless to say i wont be back. Hopefully the rumors of El Mago being opened down the street are true, because a sit down restaurant this place is not! The staff was friendly and service was good, but a meal i could of made at home with more fixings!

I highly recommend. A Great dining experience, this place is super clean and the staff is very friendly, and go out of there way to accommodate you.. The food is very good tasteful and is served in large portions, with very reasonable prices. This is definitely the place to go for Authentic, Delicious Mexican food.

we had the parrilia (sp?) and it was very good.....ask for pico de gallo to go with it! and try dipping the shrimp in the salsa that comes with the chips....also they don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own and we happened to have a bottle of wine with us...fun!

I don't know what you gringos are raving about or why people recommend this place. Not worth my money. Same people own another place a few blocks away called "border taco" which fyi is much much better. My recommendation, go to border taco...same owners with better food. @Alexandra B.-?Really? I've lived months at a time across the border and this is not authentic no matter what part of S.America you are in. This is not good, edible at best.

Food was marginal at best. My wife's burrito was way too salty. Service was OK at best. Very easy to do better ...a lot better.

Huge Burgers and the fried chicken is also a huge portion. My favorite is the shrimp enchiladas. A bit pricey but still one of the better dining establishments in this bucolic little burg of Douglas AZ.

Maybe the Mexican border fence should be moved before this restaurant. What I mean is that when you eat here is a true Mexico feeling. It has all the Mexican qualities!: over-sized portions, tons of flavor, fresh ingredients, decor and customer service! ...I really feel I'm eating at any house 1/2 a mile down into the country called Mexico! Buen provecho! :)

The Chati Burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had!! Something about the Bun and the meat were so flavorful and different. Totally worth it!

Overpriced and slow service. Food was horrible for what you pay for. Stick to Chefs or Border Taco

I would highly recommend. The only drawback is the atmosphere and the soup. It isn't the place to come for ambiance or fine dining. The food more than makes up for it and the friendly servers make you feel welcome. Food is flavorful, a delight. I'm so glad I took the chance on this place, it was well worth it.

I would recommend this place. Had the special for lunch which was flutas which also came with soup. Friends we were with ordered off the menu and they did not receive as much food nor were they served soup. I would recommend the specials that are posted for the day if you want a good value! The fresh limonade was great. Food was flavorful and certainly not overly spicey. Would return to this Mexican restaurant.

Party of three seated immediately, order promptly taken, chips were hard and almost inedible, salsa was ok, decent menu selection, good prices, beans were runny, tortillas and cheese appeared generic store-bought, carne asada and shredded beef were good, verde tacos were excellent, rojo tacos tasted funky. Restaurant was clean, including the restroom. Service was a bit slow but courteous. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

Loved this place. Tastes like fresh homemade food only better. Food is simple but delicious. Also loved the fresh made limonade. Too bad I live ten hours away or I would definately be a regular here.

I attended a tourism meeting in Douglas, Arizona today. I asked the Douglas Visitor Center staff to give me a recommendation for a good Mexican lunch. It was suggested that I tried Chatita's. Well, I was really in the mood for fish tacos. I arrived at the restaurant, a modest facility, and was cheerfully greeted by my waitress. I scanned the menu and, to my disappointment, could not find fish tacos. I asked the waitress if they had fish tacos and she said it's not on the menu, but we'll fix them for you. It was my lucky day! I was served a beautiful platter of 3 fish tacos, limes and all the fixings. The best fish tacos I ever had! The chips and salsa was great; so good, I ordered some to-go. All in all, it was a great experience and I would recommend that if you are looking for authentic, affordable Mexican meal, eat at Chatita's. It is located at 301 E. 10th Street in Douglas, Arizona.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
