A classy white table cloth joint out in the middle of nowhere in Cornville....yes, yes, yes. Now I must confess the first time I tried to go to Manzanita....well it was winter and very dark and we just could not find it. So my suggestion is use your GPS or call for good directions if after dark. Since then we have visited a number of times and no issues on the location. Once inside the decor is very old school charming. The staff makes you feel comfortable and at home. They realize you had to take drive to get there and probably pass a number of other restaurants along the way. Now they have German and also what I would call American/Continental also. Since the wife and I like good German cuisine and it is not around every corner we generally go with that. I have had the lamb chops once and they were very good. We have had the baked brie and also bruschetta as starters and both were well sized and tasty. I normally order the beef roulade and the wife goes for the sauerbratten. We get a mixture of the authentic German sides such red cabbage, spaetzle and sauerkraut. The meals are ample and authentic tasting. We have had German food in many locales and this ranks among the very best. The wine list is quite extensive with domestics and imports. Manzinita offers a very good value, upscale atmosphere and an attentive staff. And all of this in Cornville.....off the beaten path, but well worth the adventure.

We made reservations for two on Valentines night. They had open time at 845 and I said that was to late and I didn't want them to run out of there special which was prime rib She said there was nothing to worry about. Well, we show up at 8:45 and wait until 9:30 to be seated only to find out they were out of prime rib so I order a filet instead. We waited for over an hour to get our food. It was the poorest filet I ever had I could go on and on but we wouldn't stop there for a glass of water. They ruined or Valentine night and I cannot forgive them for that

Food and service was excellent. A good choice for different varieties of dishes so everyone can enjoy. The German food was superb. Visited August 2015

The food here is just "ok". Not to mention the annoying constant reminder that I was "from NJ" with little comments here and there by our waitress. None specifically offensive, but not needed regardless. I won't be returning but could see how locals would like this place, the menu is uncomplicated and the atmosphere is pleasant.

Our "go-to" place for great German food but they also have a complete seafood, poultry, meat , vegetarian menu. They have nightly specials. Last night we had probably the best Manhattan clam chowder ever. Their drink specials are always unusual and they have a very good wine selection. The chef and his wife provide personal, attentive, friendly service.

What a wonderful place to dine. Staff was very friendly and food was fantastic. We each had a different dish and all was great. Would definitely go there again

OUTSTANDING! Selected this location on a whim while visiting the Sedona area earlier this year. Stopped for dinner after a day of hiking with our two teenagers. Among us was a carnivore, a pasta lover, a vegetarian and a seafood eater. Everyone was thrilled with their meal choice. They use fresh, local ingredients and the dish size is perfect. Atmosphere upon entry reminded us of a supper club, neat and clean, full bar right when you walk in. Service was very good, server very nice. If we're ever back in that area we would definitely head to Manzanita!

Sure, they have american food, but you should really come here for the german menu. Yummy! I had soup, salad, and potato pancakes. My parents loved their shnitzel and roulade. I tasted the spatzli and red cabbage too, mmmhmmm. Nom noms.

Love this restaurant, and great food.....BUT...the hostess needs to stop dressing like they just pulled her off of the street. Server Susan is excellent, great customer service. Authentic German food in Cornville!

I stopped by here last night with my fiance and her parents for dinner. We were looking for a place to eat around Sedona on Yelp whenever this popped up and its good ratings coupled with interesting menu (American/German) led us over to Cornville. We saw that the restaurant closed at 8 PM on Sunday and so made sure to get over to the restaurant shortly before 7. Whenever we arrived there were only two other tables in the restaurant. The decor of the restaurant was nice, albeit a bit dated but that didn't really bother us. As we were looking over the menu some bread came out for us to eat. There was both a whole grain and pumpernickel bread as well as a normal butter and a green butter. Originally I thought that the green butter was a pesto butter until I tasted it and it had a little bit of a bitter taste. We all decided to try and figure out what it was and there were a few votes for pesto while I went with spinach. Whenever the waitress came back to take our order we asked her what it was and she told us a parsley and garlic butter. I can't say that I have had that before. For my dinner entree I decided to go with pork chops which came in a bourbon sauce with a side of stuffed potato and I substituted in some braised red cabbage for my vegetables. It also came with a selection of soup or salad with the soup selections being a ginger carrot and tomato basil. Since neither one really sounded appetizing to me I decided to go with the salad and chose a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette to go with it. The soup and salads came out to our table within a reasonable amount of time and I was happy to see that my salad had beets on it and well as some darker greens ( no iceberg lettuce). Between the combination of the beets and vinaigrette I really ended up enjoying my salad although not as much as my fiance and her mom who ordered the ginger carrot soup. After a little wait from our dishes being cleaned our entrees came out. My pork chops came out covered in applesauce which I didn't remember seeing on the menu but enjoyed nevertheless. It paired well with the moist pork chop although I couldn't really detect the bourbon in the flavoring. I also enjoyed my red cabbage which had some sour and sweet characteristics although I wish it had been a bit tarter. Finally the stuffed potato ended up being what I would call a twice baked potato and while I enjoyed the spicy flavoring on it I thought it was ok. My fiancé went with the pistachio crusted chicken in Cabernet cherry jus while her parents went with a special of the day, quail. By the end of the meal all of our plates were picked clean so everyone clearly enjoyed it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While the food seemed a little more home style than I had expected, everyone really enjoyed it.

For those of you visiting Sedona (or on your way to Jerome around noontime) and looking for a great place to dine, aside from Elote's ... then THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. The short drive is well worth it, trust me. We were told about the German/Swiss food being wonderful and most authentic (the former Austrian owner still checks now and then to make sure the new chef/owner is true to the old recipes. The Bratwurst (flown in from Continental Sausage Co in Colorado) beats most of the ones you get in Munich, and the Sauerbrating is ooooh, so good. Juergen Menlo Park California

I was there with a large group and the place is an incredible find. Top notch service and great food. What a gem in such an out of the way place.

We came here after a full day of hiking...and let me tell you...I am eager to come back. I'm German, so of course I went with the standard Wiener Schnitzel, spaetzle, 1/2 & 1/2 of sauerkraut and red cabbage. The pork was so tender, I loved it. The red cabbage was excellent, the kraut and spaetzle were average in my book, but remember I'm German and I make these at home on a regular basis and I have never found anyone able to duplicate mine. I also tasted Dave's roasted pork shank, which was very good. They make their own salad dressings and soup from scratch. I had the blue cheese dressing and tasted Dave's carrot & ginger soup and it had great flavor. The menu isn't completely German, they do seem to have some American favorites and daily specials. They carry a couple of local wines, as well as Napa and European wines. The service was excellent, they were attentive and extremely friendly.

We stopped here for a late lunch on the recommendation of one of the people who worked in the local wineries we were visiting. She said it was a unique place and right on our way home. We arrived (the day before the July 4th holiday) and thought it might be closed because we were the only people in the parking lot (not always a good sign!) But we were greeted warmly by the server/hostess and shown to a table. She explained they are closed Mondays and then again the next day, so the locals probably thought they were closed today! The food has a German flavor...but not all food is German. Hubby had the French Dip sandwich (which he said was great) but I tried the Manzanita Benedict....a potato pancake instead of an English muffin and wiener schnitzle instead of canadian bacon with swiss cheese and a demi-glaze sauce instead of hollandaise. WOW!! It was terrific!! Their sides were unique too...hot German potato salad and sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. And for dessert we split a peanut butter/chocolate torte that was heavenly! This is truly a gem in the desert! We want to return for dinner soon!

Best. Clam. Chowder. Ever. Extremely flavorful and just the right consistency. That alone would earn them a 5* rating, but the rest of the meal was was just good, not great. We ate German: sauerbraten, rouladen, red cabbage, sauerkraut and spaetzle. All were legitimate German fare, but a bit too peppery and not tangy enough for my liking. Our server was extremely pleasant and helpful and very accommodating, allowing us to order off the dinner menu for lunch. The restaurant is clean and quiet in an old-world kind of way. We would go back again just for the fabulous chowder and to check out their other specialty soups, and the non-German menu items.

Manzanita benedict was awesome! Schnitzel on top of a potato pancake, with a fried egg and cheese, plus german potato salad. Oh my! Delicious. Bratwurst and sauerkraut with juniper berries also a winner. Totally cleaned our plates that day. Service was great.

We went here for my birthday. The crowd is a bit older but not your typical "dinner at 4:30" crowd. There was a guitarist there who played a little bit of music for all tastes. The staff was friendly and the German menu items we ordered were mouthwateringly fabulous. I ordered the pork schnitzel, which was just as tasty as the first time I had schnitzel in the Netherlands. The Mr. ordered the roasted pork shank which was fall-off-the-bone delicious. Two other people saw his entree and even ordered. The cocktails are old school if you order a regular martini or bourbon but they do have a seasonal cocktail list. I would go back to Manzanita and would recommend anyone staying or passing through to visit. They serve lunch and dinner.

Quiet, tablecloth, and real German beer. Food was delicious. We enjoyed the german dishes and a salmon dish. Sauerkraut was unusually sweet, but the beer washed that right down! Save room for desserts, yum! The cakes were moist and tasty. I was impressed with the outstanding service and ambiance. Give the place a try, it will be a pleasant surprise.

We visited Cornville recently and decided on Manzanita for lunch, based on the magnificent reviews on Yelp. They serve German/French/seafood with a certain wonderful flair. We were gleefully greeted at the door by the owner (also the chef) and his wife, who are also motorcycle enthusiasts like us. They both were very welcoming. We were seated and offered menus, and she took our drink order. For starters, I ordered the Pumpkin Puree soup and my husband ordered the Manhattan Clam Chowder. Both were delectable, but the pumpkin soup was easily the best of the two. No wonder this recipe has been included in 100 Years, 100 Chefs, 100 Recipes, the official Arizona Centennial cookbook! For lunch, my husband ordered the Bratwurst on a Bun and I ordered the fresh fish of the day, which was Cornmeal-dusted Cod with a side. When the food arrived, it looked and SMELLED so delicious! The veal bratwurst was split down the middle, resting upon a deliciously soft bun and topped with sauerkraut. My husband took one bite and moaned. That's how good it was. He said he hadn't had such wonderful bratwurst in 25 years, since visiting LaClede's Landing in St. Louis, Missouri (his hometown). I took a small bite and I have to admit, it was amazing. He chose a side of German potato salad, which was equally delectable. My cod was light and fresh-tasting from the first to the last bite. The honey mustard which accompanied my fish was delicious with both the fish AND the sweet potato fries I chose as my side. We had the Lemon Berry Mascarpone Cake for dessert, and it didn't disappoint! It's clear that everything here is homemade and fresh. Try Manzanita next time you're in this neck of the woods. You won't regret it, I guarantee.
