Great home cooking! Friendly staff! Baked chicken and ranch dressing is by far my favorite!

Meh. My cousin loves this place, but I wasn't all that impressed. The decor is dated and they serve up large portions of perfectly-fried, overly-bland, "southern" food. Apparently my grandparents used to eat here and the decor looks like it is from that same time period. My 74-year-old mother summed it up this way: "Neals? Oh yuck. Mama and Daddy used to eat there and they knew the Neals and they loved it, but their kids have taken it over and it's just not the same."

Tough part about this review is that Neals has great fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The breakfast is just average and the servers seem to not care. If they figure out how to improve their service this place would be great.

I've been to Neil's a few times, usually when Susan's is too packed to get in. I've never had good service, they just don't care. Food is bland, but the pie looks delicious. They also failed to mention that all of their salads come in taco shells which is weird. Over all it was a very uncomfortable atmosphere and the older couple next to me ranted on with racial slurs and bigotry. Go to Susan's, there's a reason there's a wait.

As far as a cafe goes Neal's is pretty near perfection. Good hearty fare and their cornbread is good! You gotta love a place that serves beans and cornbread. And the waitresses are all cutie pies! :)

Good old school comfort food and pies. Chicken fried steak is great. The sausage and cheese omelet is the best I have ever had. And when in season the Apricot pie is off the hook

This place is a classic, its been in business since the 40's...what else do you need to know. Good home cooking and the coconut cream pie was the best I have ever had, and if you are wondering I have had a lot of CCP! Go there you wont be disappointed

20 years ago I moved away from Northwest Arkansas without ever having tried Neal's Cafe. But when I first walked in here recently, I felt like I had never left home. The first thing a waitress hollered (in classic Arkansas drawl), was "Sit wherever y'all want." They were so kind the entire time! We had fried chicken and beef and noodles (maybe they called it beef tips?). And amazing sides! And The Best Coconut Cream Pie. This food is PERFECT country cookin'. Forget Cracker Barrel Neal's has been doing it since the 1940's and they have perfected the art. And the decor! I'll save the surprises for you, but hipsters would pay high dollar for everything on the walls if this was a vintage thrift store. Which sums up everything I think about Neal's: its the kind of place that usually shuts down at some point when it's considered old-fashioned. But if it can survive (and it has!), it will reach a new audience and new levels of success as a true foodie joint. Love!

This place is a true family owned restaurants with excellent home town customer service. If you want to experience southern hospitality this is the place. Food was fast and delicious!

Welcome to the epitome of average. I think that the biggest problem is the total lack of organization. At most restaurants you have a single server, but at Neal's yesterday we had 6 different ones, all asking what we are having to eat or drink. They worked all the tabled like this, making us completely unsure who to ask for things for and no one kept tabs on anyone. Pricing point was way to high for the quality of food. They do huge portions, but with the quality and flavor, or lack there of, we threw it away. On an up note, they have really good soda, rather random, but not that many places around here have their soda mixed well.

Rating is based on their breakfast. My wife and I happened upon this place while passing through town on a 23-state road trip. At some point just outside Atlanta, the wife decided she was IN LOVE with Waffle House, and insisted we have breakfast there every morning for several days in a row. OK, not to disparage Waffle House (I practically lived there back when I was a poor student in Texas many years ago), but it certainly does get a bit tired after awhile. Intent on breaking her of the waffle fever, I was determined to find an eatery that actually served REAL food. That led us to Neal's Cafe. Oh, thank heaven. All things considered, this is a pretty big place for a highway diner. And their meals are equally enormous. My omelet and hash browns were done very nearly to perfection, and the biscuits and gravy...wow. They're about as big as hour head, fluffy, and delicious. We both left absolutely stuffed. Coffee was freely flowing, and the service in general was top-notch. It probably helped that it was 7:30 AM on a weekday, and the place wasn't packed (though by no means was it empty). Neal's will definitely be on my breakfast list next time I'm in NW Arkansas.

Fried Chicken is some of the best you'll have anywhere. If you are visiting NWA, do not be fooled by Some of the other "Chicken" Places we are known for I.E. A.Q. Chicken. This is real pan fried Chicken, the way it should be done. Blue Plate Specials and home cooking. All Entrees and most sides are delicious. Green Beans are flavorless, unless you include "canned flavor". Homemade pies are excellent. Rolls are good, Service is VERY local, and struggles from time to time. What they lack in professionalism, they make up for with going the extra mile on friendliness, and small talk. Prices are moderate for this type of dining. No Bar or Alcohol at all. This place has been here for a long time, and will probably be here for many years to come.

Down home cooking at reasonable prices. Service is always good. Blue plate specials are a thing of the past unless you eat here . It is always packed for a reason. You cannot pass up dessert! Choose a piece of ANY of the homemade pies , you will be happy you did.

Pretty good down-home cookin. A little bland for a younger, more spice-friendly palate, but still decent. Nice friendly staff. Prices are about average. Did not have dessert, but I hear their pies are awesome.

Stopped around noon on a Saturday. Waitress arrived at our table talking to someone else on a cordless phone. Not a good start! We split the chicken dinner, which is three pieces with three sides. Chicken was nicely fried, not greasy, but it had NO seasoning and no salt. White meat was also overlooked and dry. The waitress said they never salt the chicken due to so many people being on special diets. Really? People on special diets shouldn't be eating fried chicken anyway. :-) Everything else was salted though. Like a previous reviewer said, the green beans are from a can- no doubt plenty of sodium there. The fried okra was squishy, not crispy, and was greasy. The mashed potatoes were runny. Cornbread was dry and crumbly, but the homemade dinner rolls were excellent. We didn't try the pie and don't plan to return. This is too bad because we love supporting small businesses, and Neal's also has a bit of nostalgia surrounding it since they've been in business since the 1940s. Bummer!

I am reviewing this café on the owner alone. On 2 different occasions the owner or co-owner of this establishment has not only been extremely rude, but completely unreasonable. Needless to say - we no longer eat there. (we had eaten there for over a decade) Treat people with respect Mr. Owner.

Drove 150 miles just to try this place based on previous reviews. 3 out 4 orders were served with wrong items. Side items were cold and not very tasty. Service was decent. Chicken was dry.

I drive by this place almost everyday, the parking lot is almost always packed so it has been on my list of places to dine. Well, stopped by there on a Saturday afternoon with high expectations. Boy was i disappointed. To begin with the service was slow. When the food did arrive it was barely warm. My husband ordered a chicken fried steak thinking that this classic diner would surely put out a good one. Not so much. The steak was about a quarter inch thick, not breaded well and cooked to shoe leather. The cooked carrots tasted like they had been sitting in water on the stove for a couple of days and the breaded okra was cold. They completely forgot the third side but he did not bother to tell them because he didn't think it would be edible anyway. I ordered their "classic" fried chicken just because I thought I should try their signature dish. The chicken did not have much flavor and it was quite dry. On the plus side, it was not greasy. Came with mashed potatoes and green bean which did not taste bad but were lukewarm and nothing special. They served the meal with a basket of rolls and cornbread none of which was hot or even warm. The cornbread must have been several days old because it was so dry it was not edible. Now we can say, been there done that and can mark it off the list.

Great food, great service and don't forget to save room for pie! I'm from Chicago and was travelling to Springdale for work. I found them on Yelp! and I'm glad I tried it. I was dining alone and the staff and owner, Don Neal, made me feel right at home. Talk about Southern hospitality! It's a Springdale landmark and a great find.

I happened to be in Springdale for unfortunate circumstances (Dad in hospice) and went to Neal's with my sister and step-mother for dinner after a really long day. The food was fantastic, and my step-mother, who understandably hardly ever eats these days, still talks about it. We went in right before closing and as there was a U of A football game going on they understandably wanted us to "git gone" but were not rude about it. And I'm confident that if we had explained the circumstances we could have sat there all night if need be. Step-mom had the catfish dinner special (all you can eat although she barely ate) and as I said is still talkin', sis had a bbq sandwich which she devoured as though it were her last meal and I had fried chicken which was delish. A side of broccoli was steamed crispy and not mush - hard to find anywhere. The pie served to those around use looked amazing, and I was wishing that time and belly space allowed for a slice. I loved the decor and have recommended Neal's to friends as worthy of a side trip for any road food lover who happens to be in the area. For the record, I live in Chicago and if Neal's was around the corner I'd weigh 300 lbs by 2010 and would have my picture on the beautiful pink cement block wall next to the fabulous taxidermy. Is it wrong for me to go back to visit my father just so that I can go to Neal's again?

I have been going to Neals for lunch for 16 years now. Love the food, the staff, and the owners. Great to see some places still in operation after 50 plus years in business. If you want good "home" cooked food and plenty of it then this is the place for you!
