Walked in and no one greeted us and there was no direction on whether to be seated or not and after waiting for 5 minutes of no one helping us we walked out.

I'm really surprised to see all the crappy reviews on here. This was one of the few places I could actually eat at while going through Chemotherapy. The pan fried chicken is terrific! The prices are kinda high, but I love their food.

Gross. Haven't eaten here in years and regret the 2 times I did when I first moved here. Do yourself a favor and at least get a less gross meal at Backyard Burger across the street.

Food and service, but overall, for a lower price, I like the Golden Corral chicken and sides.

A simple place with kind of a cafeteria feel to it. Although I can't say that the food was FANTASTIC - I did enjoy the Cajun chicken breast I ordered.

This is the Fayetteville AQ and not the original one in Springdale. AQ is a NW Arkansas landmark. I use to eat here all the time when I lived in Fayetteville back in the 90s. They have a great menu of all kinds of chicken dishes. My favorite is the original pan fried. The sides are pretty darn good as well. If you are ever in this part of the South and want to grab some chicken for the game or dine in, then I highly recommend. I love AQ for tailgating.

Went for the fried chicken and was NOT disappointed! The Chicken over Charcoal was simply amazing. The flavor of fried chicken and then barbequed over a charcoal grill. Chicken was moist and the skin crunchy. i will be back! Lots of bread for those who like and you can get the jam that is terrific. Prices are extremely reasonable and puts all the franchise chicken houses to shame.

AQ Chicken House claims they have world-famous chicken and I see why. My family gives me a hard time because I am a Fried Chicken Connoisseur. In other words, I love fried chicken and I am constantly looking for great fried chicken. When I eat fried chicken, I eat it extremely slow to savor every bite. The chicken at AQ Chicken House was truly the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. I would love to know exactly what seasonings they had on it. The chicken not only tasted great but it was extremely juicy. President George H. Bush and Clinton has both have had AQ chicken. I in no way get paid to talk about AQ chicken. I just truly enjoyed it. You can read about AQ Chicken and see Video on my blog at: recipesforourdailybread.… Blessings Always, Diane Roark

This place was filthy and the food was awful. The waitress was very friendly. But oh my gosh. If the part of the restaurant that's open to the public is that dirty, what must the kitchen look like?

This place was quite a disappointment. The fried pickles were over battered, and the vegetables were straight out of a can with no seasoning. On a positive note, our waiter was very nice and helpful!

This may the best restaurant here in the mountains of God. The original Springdale location was a personal favorite long before this one in Fayetteville opened. Unsurprisingly, the pan fried chicken is the feature attraction. My order rarely varies: original three-piece pan fried (all white); a double serving of the richest, tastiest creamed spinach in the history of southern cooking for my two side dishes; and a bottomless glass of Pepsi (nectar of the gods) with no ice. It simply doesn't get any better than that! The signature lemon pepper seasoning contributes to making this the best chicken in northwest Arkansas. I should offer a passing tip of the hat to the batter dipped fries and fried apples. This was my standard order before I discovered the creamed spinach. The fries are excellent and habit-forming, but those individuals who are on the cusp of heart attack or stroke will want to avoid the copious amount of grease inherent in this particular delicacy. AQ rocks. The servers are friendly and helpful, and the down-home ambiance is family friendly--right down to the honey and jam permanently laid out on each table for the ample homemade rolls. But don't come for that. Come for the memorable, traditional crispy pan fried chicken. Update: On my last visit during the dismal fall 2012 Razorback football campaign, the pan fried chicken was overcooked, leaving it sadly dry. Since this is the first negative comment I've had about their food in decades, I'm not willing at this point to reduce their rating. I'm assuming it was an aberration, and I look forward to my next visit to offer them some redemption. 2nd Update: We visited again during the even more dismal, bordering on disastrous, fall 2013 Razorback football season. Thankfully, the pan fried chicken was back to its normal, exquisite, juicy greasiness. Once again, it is a joy--a Fayetteville treasure. We look forward to another visit in a month or two.

Chicken over the coals is awesome. I love their sampler plate to get a nice variety of food and their rolls are awesome. Cost is reasonable and atmosphere is easy and friendly. I've been many times and always enjoyed it.

I've spent a couple of years regaling my sweetie on the wonderful virtues of AQ Chicken. Back in the day we waited in long long lines for tables at both this and the Springdale locations for that pleasure that was pan fried chicken. So when we happened to be making a business trip up that way, I was estactic. My first indication that something was wrong was finding only six cars in the parking lot at 5:30pm on a Friday. Walking inside, the building still had that lovely southern charm it always had, but the waitstaff stood around looking listless, a couple even sitting in a booth reading the newspaper and gossiping... loudly. We got quick service (seeing as there was no competition for attention) and I ordered that succulent delight I'd been craving... Instead, I got good chicken, but it might as well have come from a bucket from the Colonel down the street. Even the rolls had that 'been under a heatlamp too long' crunch to them. The food wasn't bad... but it was a far cry from the glory days I'd remembered. I guess they were right when they said you can never go back... and I won't.

All I can ask is, what has happened to AQ Chicken House? Everyone says is was just wonderful when they were growing up. I can honestly say that when we first came through Fayetteville about 15 years ago, we stopped to eat at this AQ (on College), and it was excellent! The pan-fried chicken WAS pan fried exactly like my grandma used to make. No kidding! I hadn't had a taste of anything remotely as good in over a decade! The food was so fresh and delicious; the chicken pieces were HUGE. Over the years, AQ has seemed to go downhill. The staff was less helpful and friendly (sometimes downright snarly), and the food was just fair to middlin' (as they say). The chicken pieces went from being big and meaty to being little teeny things cut in odd ways with very little meat on them. For example, the breast piece is now about a third of a breast, with part of the back thrown in for extra boniness. They most definitely deep fry all the chicken now, then add a little brown or black area to make it look pan-fried or "on the coals." If you ask for extra lemon pepper seasoning, you'll need a magnifying glass to see any extra. Many times my chicken, which I always order as "over the coals with extra lemon pepper seasoning, two wings and one breast," has been room temperature and the meat so tough it was not chewable. Once I sent it back (snarky waitperson was not pleased) and another time the waitperson never returned to our table, so I just didn't eat it... and refused to pay when we left. The mashed potatoes must also be returned frequently if you prefer them above room temperature. Let me mention the "famous" rolls. They used to be to die for. Now sometimes they're hard as rocks. You could throw one across the table and knock out your dining partner. They are also smaller in size than they used to be, and the flavor is just OK rather than nummy. We usually skip eating them at all anymore, even if they are nice and soft. It might help if they'd have real 100% butter on the table instead of margarine, even if it is Land 'o' Lakes brand. The inside of the College Ave. restaurant is also getting a little dingy looking. They seem to have a lot of flies hanging around each and every time we're there. On the up side, the managers are very nice and helpful, if you can find one. They will make things right if you speak with them. BEST DAY & TIME TO GO FOR FRESHEST CHICKEN AND ROLLS: Sunday right around noon, directly after church-time. I still wonder what has happened to AQ Chicken House and why it seems to be driving itself out of business. Very sad.

What can I say about AQ? Back in college when I had less than zero dollars to my name, AQ was such an amazing place to eat I actually asked my parents to come visit for the weekend, driving me crazy, ruining my social life, asking too many questions, just so I could go there. The lemon-pepper fried chicken was a revelation. I always got the fried chicken sampler because I could find no fault with anything they did pertaining to yardbird. I hope it's still that good, and I hope I get to go back before too long.

This seems to be some kind of local favorite, but honestly, I've never been all that impressed. Bland sides and mediocre chicken dishes are unimpressive and I always feel a little queasy after eating here from all the grease.

The restaurant is filthy! I cannot imagine what the kitchen looks like. The fries were cold and so greasy I had to blot them with a napkin. It was hard to get over the smell of dirty carpet and dirty table rags

Great service and the rolls served with jelly are amazing. I had the blackened catfish and I give it two thumbs up. Enjoy! The prices are very reasonable and some days they have kids eat free with an adult purchase.

This is probably the dirtiest restaurant in Fayeteville and I have heard the Springdale location is even worse. How can this place pass a health inspection. No soap in the bathrooms. 3 out of 6 of the light bulbs burnt out!!! Carpets haven't been cleaned in 25 years. I can only imagine what the back of the house is like

    (1)
  • Porntepp U.

I'm giving AQ chicken 5 stars solely because of the On The Coals Chicken. It's amazing. Everything else is solid but nothing to wrote home about; however, the chicken makes it all worth it. Get the chicken and skip everything else.

We went to the A Q Express, the food was delicious! We both got chicken sandwiches and fries. Also, the employees were very friendly and helpful. BUT, the inside of the restaurant was dingy and reeked of old oil. In addition to that, I counted at least 10 flies in the front of house, they were landing on us and trying to land on our food. I wish that I could have given them a better rating, but cleanliness is definitely an issue at this restaurant. We left after eating and we both smell like we were dunked in a vat of frying oil, gross.

My cousin wasn't kidding when he said that Fayetteville can be a bit quiet on the weekends. This restaurant was no exception. We even thought we could get away with ordering a beer with the meal since it was St Patrick's Day, but this place is dry as a bone on Sunday. The food we ordered was ok, but I say skip all the fluff and go straight for the 'over the coals' chicken. That's their stand out. We ordered the sampler platter which had a variety of fried veggies, but the breading was almost too thick to enjoy. I got a sampler of BBQ, pan fried, and 'over the coals's. the BBQ was a little cold, more like reheated and the pan fried was just all right. Sadly even the basket of rolls was not up to snuff. They were a bit crusty and dry. Oh their second standout is the sweet potato casserole! It could be a dessert rather than a side. If you stick with just those two you will be a happy camper.

There's a KFC, Zaxby's and Slim Chickens, among others, in Fayetteville, but why do that when you can a piece of fried chicken at AQ Chicken House. It's local, it's delicious and it's reasonably priced. I dined in a few times (a colleague of mine from Tulsa went to AQ every single time he had to work in Fayetteville), but right next to the Fayetteville location there's AQ Express where you can order the same dish to go and use the drive-thru. When my friend lived in Fayetteville, I'd make a lot of quick stops at AQ after walking his dog and grab the lunch special (two pieces, a side and a drink; though I was miffed when they eventually raised the price by I think a dollar). Lots on the dine-in menu, but I'd keep it simple and get a chicken dinner (I like all the styles: the pan-fried, over the coals - my favorite - and the bbq). The sides are really good too; green beans are especially recommended.

This is a Northwest Arkansas staple that's been in business for years ~ AQ Chicken House. Most of the Yelp reviews do not accurately reflect the quality of food and service you will find at the AQ Chicken House, so I felt compelled to write this review after our visit a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant ~ it's a little worn and dated with that old "cowboy country meets auntie Em's arts and crafts" but it has some character, sort of... The service ~ very good southern hospitality. Everyone's very polite and accommodating to meet you're needs. The food ~ some of the best fried chicken you're lips and stomach will ever meet! I always order thighs and wings (as all fried chicken connoisseur, aficionado's should order) and they were delish! I had two sides, mac-n-cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. Both were very good an full of flavor. We started our meal with some fried dill pickles and the best dinner rolls I've ever tasted along with a huge glass of sweet iced tea. I recommended AQ Chicken House to my friends when I lived there over 20 years ago and I stand by that recommendation today. You can't find better fried chicken anywhere in Arkansas, so give them a try!

I just love this place. The spaghetti is great, for a chicken place that speaks volumes. The chicken sandwiches are simply amazing. Simple, yet gourmet. The chicken is second to none in Fayetteville, maybe anywhere! Without a doubt the best fast food chicken anywhere Ever!! I have never made it into the sit down restaurant. One day soon. Keep up the good work consistently great food and service!!

If you're a fan of fried chicken, AQ is the place for you. I think it's a lot like what KFC used to be years ago. Big crunchy battered bits of meaty chicken with sides that taste homemade. All the usual stuff you would expect! Stopping in for a mid-week lunch, the "Redbird Sandwich" jumped off the menu. A nice piece of chicken breast with bbq sauce, with onion rings. Delish and probably only about ten thousand calories. My waitress kept my glass of sweet tea filled. A decent meal for $10 with tip. Ambiance could use a bit of a pick-me-up. This isn't a date restaurant, but it's just fine for lunch. Plenty of parking. No wi-fi. Would I return? Maybe. Maybe not.
