I dropped in for lunch one day recently and was ecstatic about the great fish and sides I was served, and the superb service from the wait staff. They first brought out a big basket of some of the best hushpuppies I've ever eaten, and my $8 meal included three huge perfectly fried catfish fillets (crunchy outside and tender flaky inside), a big serving of slow-cooked bacony pinto beans and some delicious creamy cole slaw. Fred's will be on my must-visit list now every time I'm in Batesville. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for really great catfish.

Good service. Plenty of options for non-fishlovers like myself. Atmosphere is ok but I wouldn't bring a date here.

Great place. Excellent Fried Fish. Lunch special is awesome, budget friendly but plenty of food and hardly able to waddle out the door.

First time to eat at Fred's in 15 years. Has not changed. Hush puppies, pickled tomatoes, and beans served after ordering. Cat fish was excellent. Fried shrimp smack but good. Fries ok. Baked potato ok. Replacement fresh hot hush puppies were brought to table replacing one remaining without asking for some more. Ambience non-existent other than the building was once a church. Prices were in line with other fish houses. Will go back without waiting another 15 years since I now live reasonably close.

Fred's has always had the best fish in the area. Both the grilled and fried fish are excellent, as well as delicious hush puppies and pickled tomatoes.

Right by our house always good food but get there the day they are smoking the ribs and chicken! Friendly staff, good food and a lot of good company. Near our house we hit it at least once a week.

I grew up in this area of the state, and even after moving away for quite some many years, this is still my favorite catfish restaurant! I've never had a negative experience here. The catfish is always tender and juicy, and the batter is delicious every single time, never greasy. Every meal comes served with pickled green tomatoes, pinto beans, cole slaw or salad and amazing (and addicting) hushpuppies. You can choose a side of steak fries or a baked potato (my personal favorite!). They also serve frog legs, grilled catfish, chicken entrees, and hamburgers. A definite must-have if you are in the area!

We decided to have a lunch in this establishment on the way to the Blanchard Caves. Hushpuppies are sweet, whereas the bean soup is bland and unappealing. Catfish was overcooked and tough. It was the first time I sawed a tiny piece of catfish with a knife.

Fred's has the best catfish i have ever eaten. I have had fried catfish from all over the country; and Fred's is the best. A must have if you are in the area.
