Great place. One of the first sushi restaurants in Tuscaloosa. Hibachi grills on the back, sit down dining in the front. We would wait for hours to eat here. There really were not any other options back in those days. The sushi was the best. Good atmosphere.

Loved eating here! I had the chicken and scallops and my bf ate the California and dynamite crab roll sushi. I've ate at every single Japanese place in ttown and this is by far the best! Service was great my glass never went empty! Friendly and eager to please!

We have been going here since they were one of the first Japanese steakhouses in town. The management and staff is awesome and the sushi and chilled white wine is by far the best. Atmosphere is dated but good service and food more than make up for it. Tell the Lees that the Beards sent ya!

A bit tough to find, tucked in the back corner of a shopping center. Good clean place. Staff is friendly. Family tried both the sushi and hibachi grill. Sushi was pretty good, grill so-so. Fried rice didn't have a lot of taste, yaki soba (grilled noodles) a bit strange, and the salad contained bits of really bad lettuce. On the plus side, the grilled vegetables, scallops, and teriyaki chicken were really good. If you've been to a Benihana's, this place is not up to par with that for sure but worth a visit. We'll focus on the sushi the next time around.

Absolutely love this place! Really enjoy the grill experience, and the shrimp sauce is probably my favorite in T-town! Definitely need to go try it out!

Ah, Tokyo. For many years it was the only option for table-fried Japanese in Tuscaloosa. I'm glad those days are over. You see, Tokyo has never been much in the way of good food. You went in to watch a Korean guy (yes, they are Korean) sling shrimp across a hot grill-after waiting 15 minutes for him to even get there-while slapping his utensils together in a show of mock-acrobatics that only the most easily impressed find enthralling. The end result is cold vegetables, undercooked rice and sub-par meat. Now, Tokyo isn't all crap. They actually have some very good sushi, which is the ONLY reason I still agree to join friends when they go for a meal. However, nothing is so impressive that it outshines other sushi options in town by any stretch. My other reason for avoidance is the owner, who never seems really concerned with his guests, that is unless you're a person of some standing in the community, in which case he won't leave your side. And I won't even go into their notorious employee turnover rate. Simply put, if you just HAVE to go, then go, but it's not worth going to any great lengths for.

trying this out for the first time. I was a little wary of sushi in Tuscaloosa but I was pleasantly surprised! Ordered edamame to start off. It took a while for it to show up and was heavily salted. Next time I will order it with light salt. The rainbow roll was one of the better ones I have had. Nice firm roll with a good amount of fresh fish and avocado on top. The salmon roll rocked and had generous cuts of fish in it. Slightly bummed they did not have any uni or quail eggs, but I will definitely be back!

I wish I could give this a 4.5. The table service is what I prefer instead of the grill experience. You get your food much quicker and it is all warm at the same time! The steak and shrimp are very tasty. Lo mein noodles are delicious and you get a small portion with each entree. The vegetables are fresh and have a great flavor. The rice is ok, I've had better at other Japanese steakhouses in town. But I'm not a huge fan of rice anyway.

I love tokoy there food is good I have always had wonderful service I love good sushi and every thing I have tried here has been great they also have a good bartender I don't care for the grills at any Japanese place I go for sushi not for the show so I am no judge on that all in all a very comfortable and relaxin place with good sushi

For a lot of us Tuscaloosans, this is the first place we ever tried sushi. Well, now that I know better, I feel lucky I was introduced to it here. The food is amazing, and you can talk your more squeamish friends into coming for the grill menu, which is also great.
