Sweet Home Food Bar was the only place in Tuscaloosa that could seat a group of 16 on a Friday night, but boy am I glad they did! I enjoyed a meal of thanksgiving style stuffing, half chicken and green beans. It was my grandmother's cooking with an upscale taste. As it was my birthday and we had such a large party I'm sure the owner came back to check on us at least 3 times. The waiters were friendly as could be and very attentive to our group. The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious so I would most definitely recommend to everyone I know!

Apple pecan pancakes from the Sunday brunch menu were excellent. Prices were lower than I expected too.

This is really a pleasant surprise for us Tuscaloosa locals. Great decor, but because of the fantastic Friday evening October weather, we elected to dine outside on University Boulevard. The olives and the crostini appetizers are so tasty and well prepared. The brown sugar & mustard salmon was almost unbelievable. The only down point was the over salty reduction used with the filet, which was otherwise a very good piece of steak. They have an excellent wine list, but we chose beer and cider. The beer was a good Cahaba brewery Blond...the biggest question is why they don't feature one if the excellent brews available from Black Warrior, which is literally next door?!? We will be back...a great new restaurant has arrived in T-town!

On the last three Saturdays, I've shopped at the farmers market and then dropped by Sweet Home for breakfast. I really, really want to like this restaurant. The decor is modern and upscale. The owners are friendly people who take the time to greet customers. The waitstaff is young and inexperienced, but they should improve with time. The problems are the food and the prices. The cooking is clumsy. My ham and cheese frittata turned out to be a somewhat messy ham and cheese omelet. The ham was pre-cubed and unseasoned, and the cheddar was sorta dumped on top. That being said, it tasted okay. The scrambled eggs were salty, but the bacon was quite good. The buttermilk pancakes were a bit small, and came with perhaps a 1/4 cup of syrup. The coffee is good, but good luck getting a waitress to refill your cup or bring cream. Every meal tastes like the owners have gone cheap on ingredients and kitchen staff. With three Farmer's Markets in the area, relying on pre-packaged ingredients is foolish at best. And no restaurant will survive without a competent chef. My breakfast of three buttermilk pancakes, bacon, and coffee cost $11.99 plus tip. Other meals cost about as much. For that price, I can eat twice as much at other local restaurants. Will I go back to Sweet Home? Probably. Will I recommend Sweet Home to friends or colleagues? No.

I really wanted to like this place, the decor is very nice, and I was eager to try the food, and it was just alright. I think the menu is hit or miss. I went for brunch on a Sunday and was part of a group of 4 and two of the people I was with enjoyed their meals. But the third person and myself were very disappointed. I got a burger, because I didn't want to order the same thing as someone else in our party. Big mistake, because hers was great. The burger wasn't that bad, but I think they dip the burger side of the bun in a sloppy joe mix because that's exactly what it tasted like, but the meat didn't taste like that so it was really confusing. The 'home cooked' chips were alright, other than the fact that I felt like a hammer would've been the best method for chewing them. My girlfriend got the cinnamon pancakes with icing and they were decadent. The other two in my group got: chicken and waffles which was described as good; and the quiche, which was terrible. Ultimately I paid ~$30 for a sub-par meal. I'd be willing to give it another swing and hope for a good item on the menu, but the other guy in my group (quiche) was adamant that he'd never go back.

Had lunch here yesterday with my business partner. To begin, this place is brand new so I will cut them some slack in the areas they fell short. We both thought the food was very good...especially the sweet potato fries! The decor is fresh and very appealing without trying too hard. The lady acting as hostess/maitre d was extremely nice and welcoming...a friendly face when you walk in is always a very good first impression!! The area they did not excel in was delivery. We waited 40 minutes for two very uncomplicated plates..the waitstaff could not be nicer, but they are not trained. I will certainly be back because the food is good with great atmosphere and smiling faces, but in the food business timing is everything. I wish them the best and encourage everyone to try this place, I know you will love the food!

Dropped in for dinner before the Dave Matthews concert and walked in to an empty restaurant. Was told they're only doing burgers tonight but that was fine with us. Burgers were juicy and delicious. Good specials on beer and wine as well. Had also been here for lunch once before and was pleased. Decor is nice and service good. Tuscaloosa needs more unique, interesting and progressive restaurants. We're glad to add Sweet Home to the short list of our preferred dining spots.

I met a friend for lunch, and we both had salads--different versions. My greens with salmon was fresh and a good sized meal. Waitress was attentive; however, it took longer than desired for meal to be placed--25-30 minutes, and only salads. Somewhat pricey for menu. Cute environment.

While visiting my daughter at UA, I had the chance to experience this wonderful restaurant! My daughter has been wanting to eat here and when I came to town her friend joined us for an outstanding lunch! It was a very hot day and I didn't want to leave my dogs in the car while we ate. Not a problem here. They welcomed them to join us on the patio and brought out bowls of ice water for each of them. The service was OUTSTANDING! Our waiter, Joshua, was friendly, knowledgeable about their menu and very efficient. Everyone we had any contact with during our meal was the same way. Everything we ordered was truly delicious! We had the BLT with fried green tomatoes and corn salad, panini (b) with a southwest salad and the chicken Parm sandwich with fruit salad. We shared bites of everything and all of them were very flavorful, well cooked and fresh! So glad to have found this place, it will definitely be a must stop when in town again and I purchased a gift certificate for my daughter to bring her friends for a Sunday brunch that sounds incredible and includes an apple pie pancake that I can't wait to try.

I've come often for breakfast. I really like the building and decorating. It looks really nice and modern but with homey touches. The food was phenomenal and the portions were large. It's not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for in quality and portion. The service has been sub-par. Inattentive, inexperienced, and entered wrong into the computer by the server. Update: After more trips I am downgrading my rating and officially labeling the service atrocious. If I ever come again I'm not even going to order, I'm just going to tell them to bring me whatever they feel like since that's what's going to happen anyway. It's not like I was being complicated, yet it's become comically consistent how often our orders are wrong (and they are entered incorrectly on the itemized receipt, so it is not the kitchen's fault). Combined with the slow speed, this is really not a place you would want to come if you are on any kind of schedule.

Really great food and good portions. The owner and staff were really nice and attentive. I would 100% eat here again.

The decor and ambiance of the place made me really want to give it a higher rating. Our server was attentive and cordial, diligent at providing quality service. The low rating is for the food. The chicken Alfredo tasted like "white." It didn't have any seasoning whatsoever. My husband's burger shined in comparison. In fact, we promptly asked for to go boxes so that we could go home and add spices to the Alfredo to doctor it up. It didn't even have pepper. It was a great disappointment. If I wanted dinner with sauce from a can and frozen chicken, I would have picked up a frozen dinner at the grocery store. Nothing about it was fresh.

I wanted so badly to like this place. I chose it on a return trip to Tuscaloosa, as seeing nice decor and nestled next to Black Warrior Brewing Company seemed promising. The prices are steep but worth it if the food is good. The problem is, it isn't. I ordered the crostinis and could have made them at home easily. The bread was bland, overwhelming, yet still managed to overpower all the flavors of the cheese, prosciutto (which is usually difficult to accomplish), and bruschetta. The bruschetta was tasty but mostly because of the salad dressing it was mixed in. Definitely not authentic or traditional, which leads one to ask: why bother? I also ordered the fresh green salad, which was tasty but also because of the dressing. The topping to salad ratio was sorely disproportionate. Not to mention my crostinis came with a bizarre pile of reject lettuce in the middle of the plate as garnish, which appeared to be the same from my salad. The decor leads you to believe you're getting something crafted, a meal with attention to detail because there are so few options that surely they must be focusing on quality over quantity. The "Sweet Home" moniker misled me to think I was going to have a delightful southern meal. The plates look like cafeteria plates. How misguided this place is. They're definitely banking on appearances being sufficient, and I'm disappointed they might get away with charging high prices for basic, imitation food in such a prime location. I liked the books the checks arrived in; they were a cute and original touch. However there were some spills and stains that made it feel a little unsanitary, as if someone else's salad dressing had soaked into a spot on the cover before I got it. My friends were pretty unhappy with their meals as well. It was pretty awful and I feel bad for taking them there, even though it was my first time as well. Don't waste your time, go to Five's where they do amazing food and have original decor and serve mugs made from local artists. They know what they're doing. In fact, if you can't get Five's, go to Five Guys before this place. What a shame.

I was very excited to try this place. I heard people raving about it. Tuscaloosa is a small town so when a privately owned restaurant pops up I am more than happy to give it a try. I got a chicken panini and my friend got the clucken chicken sandwich. The chicken appeared to be the same for both sandwiches...breaded frozen...is what it tastes like. My sandwich was supposed to have roasted red peppers... I'm not sure where they were at. I could go on but the bottom line in my opinion... Certainly average and not worth the price. This place needs a chef not line cooks.

Nice little place, i went twice. The food was good both times. They also have a decent selection of wine. Owners were very friendly and eloquent. The only drawback to me is the chic-ish ambience but thats opinionated.

Gumbo not great, 2 small shrimp and no cod or mahi mahi as advertised but loaded with overcooked sausage. Lamb was doused in a Pesto sauce that was way too garlicky. Side of asparagus was probably the best part of the meal. Breakfast here is so so. I want this place to be better. Much better.

Great food- breakfast and lunch options available all day. I got a panini, and my friends got pancakes and chicken curry. We also got sweet potato fries for an appetizer. All were great! It took a while for the food to arrive, but the waitress checked on us several times before.

I wish I could say this place is worth going to. The food is actually very good, despite their very slim number of options. But the service is so awful that you couldn't pay me to go again. I have been there 2 times, and on both occasions, I waited over an hour for my food after I had ordered. The waitresses both times came by only once other than when she took our order. I never got a water refill, I never got cream for my coffee (after asking two other waiters) and she took an additional 15 minutes to charge my card after I got the bill. I am not looking for a 2 hour outing when I go to breakfast, and will stick to Broken Egg until Sweet Home figures it out.

Worst dining experience of my life. The service was beyond poor, the food was cold, and the management left me completely baffled and regretting opening the doors of this establishment. Our appetizers were forgotten about, our meal tasted as if it had been left sitting over night collecting dust on the dim lit table I was seated at after an hour of staring at 6 open tables. The manager had the nerve to come over and defend her poor dining staff and offered a half ass invitation for a free wine tasting. I apologize but I will be purchasing a bottle of the same over priced wine you tried to serve me from publix to drown the disappointment of your kids menu comparable pasta with "red sauce". I give this place one more month.
