The first thing to know about this restaurant is that it is extremely overpriced. Drinks such as mimosas are 6 dollars for a tiny glass and French toast without any sides was 10 dollars. It's pricey but they do actually give you a decent amount of food. The wait is generally very long, the three times I've gone it's been over an our wait for 3 people. The last two times I've eaten here, my friends and I have had rather unprofessional and inattentive waitresses. This may be due to the fact that I look rather young, which is always annoying since I generally get poor service at sit down restaurants for this reason. All in all, the food is good but overpriced. Expect a wait and don't expect good service if your a college student, recent grad, or just young looking in general.

Wow, just wow. After hearing the hype of this place I decided to try it out yesterday since I love going out to breakfast eateries and... this place isn't all it's cracked up to be. First, we were seated quickly but that's because we went on a weekday morning so if you don't want to wait (as I have heard is the case on weekends) go during the week. But it quickly went downhill from there. Me and hubby had ordered coffees. Mine tasted good but hubby didn't like his. He had ordered the mocha and it didn't taste like a mocha should. At first we thought they'd given him the latte instead but as he kept drinking it more, the mocha finally showed up and it was still lacking in flavor. He didn't want to complain cause he figured at least it was drinkable and people make mistakes. Onto the food. I ordered the Floridian omelette and hubby had the Supreme omelette. Hubby liked his but my Floridian unfortunately left much to be desired. All the ingredients mentioned on the menu were there but flavor was lacking. The crab meat was the only thing that gave the omelette flavor. The onions, cream cheese and Monterey Jack did nothing for the omelette. The country potatoes that came with the meal were nothing special but the English muffin that also came with it had some flavor and I enjoyed that. I also ordered a side of cheese grits and there was lots of cheese which is a bonus to me because if there's one thing I can't stand is when I eat cheese grits and there's little to no cheese at all. However there was no flavor whatsoever. I don't like adding extra salt to my foods because I have always felt it overpowers other flavors. But this stuff just had no flavor, even with all the gooey cheese inside, and then gasp! The grits were also very "soupy". Now you know grits aren't supposed to be like that. I couldn't tell if it was too much water/cream/milk or whatever but even after stirring it together with all of the cheese to make it more creamy instead of "soupy" it still had too much liquid in it. So again, food that should be brimming with flavor had little to no flavor. Do you see the pattern? As we were finishing I started to notice that our waitress wasn't very friendly during the meal. Oh she had a smile on her face and was prompt and polite but it also felt like she was just going through the motions. In other words, she either didn't care about her job or we weren't worth her time. So, when she came to take our plates away, she swiftly took hubby's away before he could tell her he wanted the rest of his potatoes to-go. Hubby didn't like that. Luckily I was able to let her know I wanted mine to-go as well. Then she ended up doing something that always peeves me when it comes to waitressing. She brings me a regular styrofoam to-go plate for my leftovers yet it was clear as day that I needed a different kind of container for my "soupy" grits. So we had to ask for that and luckily she got one but that is a peeve of mine because it clearly shows that the waiter/waitress isn't paying attention. Again, another sign of "I don't care about this job." So after we paid and left I felt completely underwhelmed and wondered should we have gone somewhere else for breakfast. Food: Definitely lacking. It's like the food looks really good but then you're left disappointed. For all the ingredients they supposedly use for the dishes I ordered, it's totally weird how they all tasted bland. They definitely need to find another cook/cooks. I've had better at IHOP. Pricing: This place is trying to be something it ISN'T with the pricing. It's not expensive to me as I have had "expensive" meals before. BUT for the prices they did charge, they need to give more food. My omelette was flat with the ingredients all on top. Hubby's was flat as well. We have had omelettes at other restaurants that were filled and brimming to the top for lower prices. Service: Needs work in that area too. Obviously because of the aforementioned service with our waitress but I also happen to notice that when we first came in, the hostess was right there and there was a definite pause with a "snooty" look before she decided to say "Hello." Another nitpick for me as it seemed like she was waiting for us to greet her, as if that's the way you do business. And we all know that when it comes to customer service, the "worker" greets the "customer" first. That kind of snobbery or ignorance never sits right with me as I have dealt with that before and I've also had a lot of years in the customer service industry so I know some about how to make a customer feel welcoming in that they'll want to give you their business. OVERALL: As you can tell from my review this place is lacking in a LOT of areas that needs working on and I will say that if I do return in the future, hopefully it will be better or I'll know to stay away for good. It's sad because from what I've read or was told a year or so back, Another Broken Egg seems to have gone downhill already.

We've eaten here twice and had great experiences both times. It seems that most of the bad reviews that have been posted on Yelp relate to poor service. However, our servers were great both times. Yesterday our server was a young lady from Connecticut. She was very efficient, friendly and attentive to our needs. There was a long line when we arrived but we were seated in less that 15 minutes at a window table with an excellent view of the river. Two of us had pancakes and the others had eggs, etc. The quality and quantity was excellent. We will return.

Order the shrimp and grits. Don't get anything else because everything will pale in comparison. It's not pescetarian-friendly as there were unexpectedly large chunks of delicious sausage links. The sauce that the grits are slathered in is delicious and guilt-inducing. The omelet was very average. For a place called "Egg Cafe", I was hoping the egg portion would be at least above average. It tasted plain. I've had better elsewhere. For as many ingredients that they put in here, I couldn't taste much. The view is gorgeous. Every side of the restaurant looks fabulous. It's probably the restaurant with the nicest view I've seen in Tuscaloosa so far overlooking the river. I'm jealous of all the people who live here and have this cafe to go to downstairs.

First time here food was delish love the outside seating area good service Awesome pancakes and bacon was amazing and very thick

We've been to this restaurant several times and the service has always been poor. It's in a nice location overlooking the Black Warrior. Staff are slow, they aren't good at seating, refilling drinks, or sticking around to make sure your food is okay. The food is just okay overall. I've tried several menu items and most are quite bland. It's pretty pricey. It's also a chain and I prefer the one in Panama City Beach better.

Warning: go early to get a table on the weekends unless you want to wait! Great service, clean, prompt and delicious!

We were in town for a wedding. The walls of the hotel were closing in on us. We were getting a little tired of making nice conversation with second cousins twice removed and that weird, goggle-eyed friend of the groom whose social skills were a notch or two below an electrical engineer with Aspergers. So a select few of us quietly tunneled out for brunch, and Another Broken Egg was where we landed. First thing's first. Even though it was an off-week for Alabama's football team, we knew that Saturday brunch would be crowded. So we called ahead. That doesn't give you a reservation, but it puts you to the top of the list. When the eleven of us pulled up, there were hordes of people sitting around waiting for their table to be ready. So, for the sake of all that's holy, call ahead. Especially if you have a larger group. On to the grub. The Bloody Mary was awfully good. We're not talking Zing Zang with a garnish, but some kind of homemade recipe that's pretty feisty. As in spicy. It's got a wang to it, but it's really good stuff. I recommend it highly. Second the food was delicious. It was not epoch-shattering breakfast fare, but well-made nonetheless. Service was prompt, cheerful, and unfazed about splitting a check for 11 diners among four ways. So, yeah, eat here.

Beautiful location, clean restaurant however I placed a Togo order of 1 pancake and a side of bacon. When I arrived the total was over 9 dollars. I asked and was told it was right so giving the benefit of a doubt I let it go until I got home and discovered 2 pancakes and bacon and they weighed a TON. So check your bill and your order and if you like heavy pancakes go for it. I may eat in and see if it's better but I'll never do the Togo thing again. Good luck all.

Appearance: The restaurant is really nice outside and inside. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. Health score as of today is 89 but restaurant is clean Staff: they were very nice and talkative. Our waitress didn't ask if we wanted to go boxes and threw away our left over food. That was very annoying. Price: the food was very expensive. Two pancakes was a over $5. The quality of food wasn't worth the price they charged. The quality was no better than what IHOP serve.

I love getting a chance to eat here when in town. I say this because it is popular and on a crowded weekend the wait could be an hour plus. My recent visit, August 19th, did not disappoint. We say outside and enjoyed the view of the trees and river. Our sever, young dark skinned male, was friendly and a great server. (Sorry for the description but I wanted to acknowledge his great service) The omelet I ordered is perfect and I wish I had it daily! I has garlic and vegetables in it. The fruit was served on the side and since they serve seasonal fruit it was all good. I look forward to dining here in the future.

Good spot for breakfast, brunch / lunch. I had Popeye's Special, which is an egg scramble with baked bacon, jack cheese & of course, spinach. A little salty, and could have had a little more spinach. All in all, however, quite good. Served with potatoes and an english muffin. Also had the house infused Bloody Mary, which was VERY tasty!!

Another pleasure. What a great place to relax. We had a wonderful morning sitting, looking at the river and eating a wonderful meal. Everything was done to order and very flavorful. I had the Stan's Mardi Gras omelette, it was made just for me. It seemed that way. My wife had the Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. I wanted to eat it also.

This is one of those places i can't stand. It was so bad my friend and I have never gone back. The food was just horrendous. I can't understand the hype. It's just as bad as Depalmas.
(1)Jason B.
Very lovely place. Friendly service, nice view. But the food is kinda off in a way. Its good but... It looks better then it taste. But its a nice breakfast spot
(3)Anna W.
Great amazing egg benedicts. The two I'd recommend are the steak one and then the seafood one. Expect to pay more than you'd expect for a Benedict.

This is a solid place to get brunch on the weekend in Tuscaloosa on the Black Warrior Riverfront. This location has a friendly staff, a tempting bar in the center of the restaurant, and delicious food in hefty servings. I had brunch recently with a friend at this location. It was quite refreshing to eat with the lovely Black Warrior River on a beautiful sunny day as the backdrop to the restaurant's stylish interior. We ordered coffee, the Crabcakes Cavallo (it comes with jumbo lump crab cakes, two poached eggs, infused hollandaise, diced red bell peppers, green onions, and seasoned country potatoes sans the andouille sausage), and the Shrimp 'n Grits (which comes with shrimp and andouille sausage sauté, spicy low country reduction sauce, sautéed red bell peppers & onions on creamy cheese grits with garlic French bread). Each dish was thoroughly delicious and the serving size was quite large. We had to take the remaining portions in to-go boxes. I definitely look forward to dropping again the next time I make it to Tuscaloosa!
(4)Amanda M.
I used to go to the original all the time in Mandeville, La with my grandparents. I love that they were able to make it up to Tuscaloosa and have such a beautiful location. Great service, friendly staff, good food. I have never had a bad experience here. The only down fall is the wait, but there is not too much that can be done about that. Get there early!
(4)Mark T.
Hard to understand a waiting line with 3-4 tables open for the time we dined here this morning. Food was as good as we hoped for, service was good, however it was slow and not the waitress's fault. I got a sense that the empty tables and the long wait would have been worse if the tables were full because the kitchen staff was unable to keep up with demand. Wait staff will hustle and take care of as many tables as you give them however, wait staff cannot overcome a slow kitchen.
(3)Craig L.
When I think of breakfast in Tuscaloosa I think of "another broken egg" !!!! This place is simply awesome but expect an hour + wait. The menu is extensive and creative. Very diverse choice of omelets and the sweet potato pancakes are amazing !!! Consider a walk a long the river while waiting for a table.
(4)Ben B.
If you're looking for a good breakfast stop that has healthier options than the other meat + 3's in Tuscaloosa, ABEC is a solid choice. The food here is always cooked with good ingredients and care. I usually get the Huevos Rancheros and am always happy. Their service also seems to always be friendly and on their game. You know they're busy, but they seem to carry it well. Their only downfall is the amazing wait that you will 100% most certainly experience. They do provide you with newspapers, but after an hour of sitting on the steps outside you read every newspaper article twice. They should possibly provide coffee or something to their waiting guests to help calm them down, as that would go a long way early in the morning!
(3)Etai M.
Don't understand some of the reviews here. This is a decent place with high quality food, great atmosphere.
(4)Anthony T.
Nice location, food is good. On the pricey side for breakfast though. I would recommend as there are not many breakfast spots around town. Very busy after religious services let out. I dont believe reservations are taken.
(4)Christine O.
I really enjoy coming here when I'm super hungry. Although they have heavy food items like pancakes and French toast... They also have healthier options (which I'm super happy about because I'm a health nut). I usually order the rolled oats with fruit and I ask for the oats to be unsweetened with a side of honey. Hmmm... Also- their coffee is really strong! Which is good cause if you're anything like me, caffeine doesn't phase me in small doses. MY ADVICE: go early! Seriously, the early bird gets the worm at this place... The wait is terrible if you go closer to brunch time. The service can get reaaaallllyyy slow
(3)Amanda J.
Amazing food and atmosphere! My boyfriend and me have been several times and have always had a good experience. Best breakfast/brunch place in ttown.
(5)Erin R.
It was ok until....... We had an OK experience - wait that we expected, service that was OK, but My son found a short-curly in his breakfast. Hello? YUCK! Disgusting and the waitress laughed and blew it off...Oops! That happens...sorry....haha...NOPE. that ISN'T what Happens at restaurants that care. Gross. (btw, he is blonde) No addressing the issue, no replacement, no management. Don't think we'll be back.
(1)Mike M.
Great way to begin your day! We waited an hour to be seated but it was well worth the wait. Great food & service you will not be disappointed
(5)Nemo L.
There's sort-of a dearth of good brunch spots in T-Town--or at least ones that are open past 12pm (when I am waking up). I will say this: ABEC has tasty good, big portions, and it hits the spot--and they're open until 2pm. Everything else I could "take or leave". There's usually a long wait where they give you a buzzer to hold onto. Like if you arrive at noon you will not be seated until 1pm and you will not eat until 1:30pm. Just keep that in mind. I've also found the coffee to be WEAK and you have to ask them for it black or they will put milk in it (at least for the iced coffee). Although I think the food is tasty & don't mind paying a little extra for a good eat, it's a little higher than other places in town (& they will upcharge the hell out of you--I got charged $2 for two tiny TINY little garlic toastettes I asked for extra). The service here is unmemorable. I'll probably be back because it's a decent eat and there's not many other options around, but if you've never been before, just be warned on the wait and the price.

I've been to another broken egg several times and usually enjoyed it. The last time I went, however, was not a good experience. I ordered the lobster roll, which was decent until I found a short, black, curly hair in it (I'm blonde). I called the waiter over, but she laughed and took the food back to the kitchen. We were not offered any sort of compensation for their nasty mistake. Most likely will not return.

We found this place on yelp.com of course and thought we'd give it a try. We arrived and found the place to be very nice. The thought of having a nice breakfast with my family while overlooking the river sounded perfect, Until the hostess seated us next to the most oblivious two mothers with four of the most ill-behaved kids on the planet! Before we even got our glass of water these little flagitious individuals were destroying the place. One little imp thought he was Chuck Norris and as we ALL know there is only one Chuck Norris! The other little destructive offspring of satan were equally as bad because of peer pressure I'm sure because this type of public behavior is hard to duplicate on their own. After one of the clearly clueless mom's recognized that these heathens are disrupting the entire restaurant she did what Every mom would do, PLAY A CARD GAME! REALLY? After this magnificent technique ensued the hellions got relatively quiet but then the mom of the year kicked in her vocal megaphone. Obnoxious obviously runs in the family! Shortly after this high level card game that made absolutely no sense they departed this nice place which allowed FEMA to step in and assess the damage this table had caused. By the way, I had the Eggs Benedict and it was Very Very Good!
(4)Eden R.
I came here for breakfast this morning. The location is great, it's right on the river. I ordered the steel cut oatmeal and turkey sausage. They were both amazing! The oatmeal had fresh strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries along with brown sugar. I am very picky about my oatmeal and I have to say this was some of the best oatmeal I've had. Another broken egg is one of the best places for breakfast in Tuscaloosa.
(4)Tiffany D.
Awesome breakfast, brunch , or lunch with the best view in Tuscaloosa. Open 6:30am - 2:00pm everyday
(5)Kori J.
Such a yummy place to eat. Make sure you come hungry. The staff is always friendly and very helpful with the menu. The menu is a little overwhelming with so much to pick from, but there isn't anything I've disliked. The lobster/Brie dish- eat it!
(5)Darren B.
We stopped here for breakfast on a recent trip to Tuscaloosa. It's very close to the U of A campus, located by the river in a great location. Tables are available on a deck overlooking the river. We ate inside, but outside looked to be a nice spot. One of our group had an omelette, another had a traditional breakfast, while I had oatmeal. All were tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Great spot for breakfast!

I'm with Kasi S (who describes her experience with the hostess as a "nightmare"). We have also had a terrible experience with the staff here. Basically, the hostess either forgot us and/or gave us a pager that didn't work, so we waited forever. I understand that sometimes these things happen, and it doesn't have to be a big deal-- when you check in with the hostess when you suspect something like that has happened, she just says something like, "oh I'm so sorry-- I will move your name right to the top!" This girl did not do this. She was really nasty and curt and did not apologize. We also watched other people get seated who had arrived after us. In the meantime, we watched a couple wait 30 minutes for their brunch. I thought they were just taking up the table and lingering after their meal-- but they had been waiting on their food! For THIRTY MINUTES. The seating here might be problematic as well. From the looks of it, most if not all of their tables are four tops, so that means when it's slammed, there are a bunch of tables for four with only two people at them, while couples are waiting. The food is good but too $$$, and the mgmt needs to figure out some logistics, including how to train their staff to use manners. Next time we will go to Five or Chucks, which are also pricey, but overall a MUCH more pleasant experience.

I have a hard time only rating this 3 stars, I loved my dish, the cinnamon roll french toast. My boyfriend liked his dish too, one of the omelettes and our server was really, really great. But the hostess was a nightmare, the wait was ridiculous, the layout was more of a bar feel and the price was a joke. They do have cool customized location mugs...for 18 dollars. It's a waste of money to eat here and with the unfriendly girls up front I can't imagine I would return anytime soon. If they replaced all the hostesses and dropped the price (we paid almost 40 dollars before tip for 2 main dishes, a side of home fries and a cup of coffee, totally over priced) this would be a main staple for me, of course when catering to the wealthy and the privileged Greekies from UA I guess you can get away with any price you want.
(3)Ali F.
They have great breakfasts, especially the French toast! The staff is also always very nice when I go in there.

4.5 stars rounded up. Service - 4 stars Food and atmosphere - 5 stars My friend and I stopped here for a late lunch during the week (a Thursday). It was pretty close to closing and they were very gracious about seating and serving us. We sat outside and had a lovely view of the river and the trail below. It took a while for someone to wait on us - maybe because we were the only people outside and the server for that area had already left, but after about 5 minutes someone came and took our drink order and said they would get a server out. We both ordered sandwiches - I had the portabella sandwich with potatoes and she had the veggie burger with potatoes. My friend ordered a side of steamed vegetables and I ordered a side of cheesy grits. The food was really good, and since I've eaten at other ABE locations before I knew it would be. The portion was generous - I saved about 1/2 of mine to take home. It was my first time trying grits and they were divine! The cheesy grits were so creamy and flavorful, I almost licked the bowl clean. Our server was very friendly and competent, I only take one star off because we waited several minutes before being greeted. I would go back for sure, and the outside seating area is lovely. I love the rustic modern feel of the interior as well. Bonus points for a lot of vegetarian options and healthier options.

Wow, this new restaurant in Tuscaloosa is awesome. We went right before the lunch rush on a Monday, so it wasn't crowded. We were seated at a window overlooking the River. Awesome view. The coffee is delicious, and served in a very special coffee cup with a Bear Bryant logo, and Tuscaloosa, Al engraved on it. (Gotta get me one of these cups) Our server was attentive and personable. Our food arrived in a timely manner, exactly how we ordered it, and hot. My dining companion ordered the Gravy and Biscuits. It came with country fried potatoes, sausage patties, and eggs made exactly to order. I ordered the Popeye Skillet, loaded with eggs, cheese, spinach and bacon. This order came with Country Fried Potatoes (served extra crispy-just like I asked for) and english muffins. The meal was a little pricey, but the food was abundant, the view was stunning, and the service was par excellence! Oh....and thank goodness: NO SMOKING! We will be back. And we will try something more adventurous from the exciting menu. Yum!

We have enjoyed Another Broken Egg several times--mostly in Lafayette. We ate here this past weekend, and it was just not what we are used to. The food was great as usual. Our service, however, left much to be desired. We had a small wait, but once seated we had to wait another 15 for anyone to come over. Our server, female with dark hair in a ponytail-- Emily O. was on the receipt--seemed to have several tables at once. Could be the cause for being overlooked? Other workers were joking and chatting a lot. I also received the wrong entree, and our beignets never arrived--but, they were not on the receipt. My sprite was also refilled with water--twice. We don't complain much, and the dish I got was good. Her service was abrupt and mechanical--that's why we left the northeast! But, we do love this place, and will frequent again when our son begins studies at UA. We do hope to have a better experience. We just moved to Lafayette, and that location is stellar.

Another Broken Egg is wonderful. The staff is super nice, and the location is awesome. The cinnamon roll french toast? SWEET LORD
