I miss this place like no other! I normally don't do Chinese Buffet style, but Mr. Ho's is MORE than just a Chinese Buffet. They switch the items on the buffet to keep it interesting, have phenomenal service-VICTOR- and have been a favorite for Troy students and Troy residents for YEARS. Always clean facilities, prompt friendly service, and delicious food that isn't OVERLY flavored with gobs of MSG. Having said all of that, i must say ti is good to know that Voctor is now owner! He worked his way up and eventually bought this piece of history from the owners. Victor speaks MULTIPLE languages, fluently and has a photographic memory. You WILL NEVER get service the way someone with a photographic memory gives it. if he meets you ONCE he will remember what you drank and chatted about years later! Every time I see him he asks about ppl I have only brought in once, and even the things they spoke of such as promotions and family. A genuinely good person doing what he loves, people pleasing! A++

Very average but I'm tempted to give him extra credit for the price - $6.99 for the buffet. Also clean and the staff was very pleasant.

The new owner is trying very hard to make this place work. The menu is vastly different from the old Ho's. They now have bento boxes, sushi, and hibachi. My wife and I each had the "Happy Box", which is a bento box. Ours came with shrimp and steak, mushrooms, broccoli and zucchini, an eggroll, fried rice, a ginger dressing salad and a California roll. All for about $10. For an appetizer my wife and I split some steamed dumplings ($5). The dumplings were very good and there were plenty of them. The shrimp were big and delicious. The steak was a little tough and over cooked but tasted good. The vegetables, rice, eggroll and vegetables were all very good. The ginger dressing salad was good but came with a ton of dressing. I was most impressed with their California Roll. It was far better than any I have had in Troy and almost as good as what I have had at the Sushi Cafe in Montgomery. Total meal with two drinks was $32. The hostess/waitress was very polite, if not a little too anxious to please. Though I miss seeing Victor after all these years, the food and selection at the new Mr. Ho's is much better than the old Mr. Ho's.

Good chinese food and the owner if very friendly and always remembers everyone by name. This restaurant is a staple in troy and has been in town for decades. It is locally owned and operated and a great place for a fun, family friendly dinner or lunch

Not bad but not impressed. Buffet is only fresh if you get there early enough. Go to Lee's for Chinese buffet!

Folks in Troy have two choices for Chinese buffet cooking: Mr. Ho's and Lee's. To compare the two very briefly, Lee's has a larger selection of foods, better decor, and a bigger dining room. Even so, Mr. Ho's is worth checking out, as the price is a good bit lower and the staff is very friendly. As other reviewers have written, the proprietor is a friendly gentleman with an excellent memory. In short, Mr. Ho's has a more friendly, small-town feel with the price to match. To each his own, of course, but when in Troy I will consistently choose Mr. Ho's.

This might be the only time I ever give 5 stars to a Chinese buffet! The food was fresh, the staff was extremely friendly, and I even have to give kudos for the location (perfect for someone on their way to/from the beaches). The restaurant is relatively small, but it's laid out well and there is plenty of room. The bathrooms were very clean, too (important for the Mrs). Perhaps I just hit it on a good day (Sunday at lunch), but I think Troy has a little gem tucked away here.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
