After my disappointing trip to Unclaimed Baggage Center, we headed to McCutchen's Magnolia House for some good old fashion country cookin' - and we were not disappointed. Located inside a historic house, this restaurant has all the charms of a southern bell. The formal living room, dining room, sitting room and foyer on the first floor is a random mixture of furniture, adding to the charm. Get the 3-in-1 plate, you can choice any meat, two sides and your choice of corn muffin or biscuit. Also comes with iced tea. When you're in the south, get sweeten iced tea. You'll be on a sugar rush for the rest of the day, but it is worth it! The food was fresh from the kitchen, made from scratch and filled with lots of flavor. Service was fast. And the crowd was a mixture of families and locals. We tried a little of everything! * Fried green tomato: lightly battered and deep fried, served with dipping sauce. A southern' favorite not to be missed * Fried chicken: just the way I like it, deep fried with a season crust and moist inside, its gotta be the lard that makes the difference * Meatloaf: smeared with ketchup, yumm-o * Mashed potatoes: southern style with lots of lumps - loved it * Cole Slaw: this dish was OK, could have used a little more seasoning * Fried okra: what else is there to say?!?!? one of my favorite southern dishes.. the kitchen made them special as it wasn't on their menu that day...I was in love. * Peach cobbler: thick peach filling, lots of fresh peaches and a buttery crust that will make you cry Overall, this is a great southern restaurant!!

Average food in lovely 1859 historic home. Meat and 2 at hot bar consisted of fried catfish or chicken casserole with 2 sides for $6.95( green beans, cabbage, mixed veggies, sliced tomato, etc) and small jalapeño corn muffin. Included was iced tea. Service was fine. Meal was just ok but nothing special.

Wonderful dining for a food bar!! Delicious every time I eat there. They also have great salads, in case you want to eat light. Setting is a beautiful Victorian house with lots of history! Need to check this place out!

Food is good, if you can get some decent service. Every time I've gone it's been a struggle to get a waitress to get drink orders, or attend the table at all. Hot bar is good, but it's better with some sweet tea.....if they are not out.

As a regional sales manager I provide many lunches for clients. I have found it difficult to find restaurants in the Jackson/Dekalb county area that stand out. I must say that the Magnolia House is a rare gem! Jan and the staff provide outstanding customer service and the chicken casserole and congealed received rave reviews wherever I go! Magnolia house is my "go to" when doing a lunch in the area and it should be yours as well!
