I came in for the oysters and was not disappointed. Got the grilled assortment. It was too much to eat but I got through all of them. Started with the cream of crab soup. Different from the Maryland crab soup but still great!

We were driving through AL and wanted oysters and came across Wintzell's Oyster House. We ordered fried oysters and the combo basket. Both were very good and the service was excellent.

Not only the worst of the three Wintzell's restaurants we've been to but the worst restaurant we've tried in Alabama in our five years here. The server spilled hot greasy food on my wife and didn't even help clean it up, apologize or express any concern for my wife's nice clothes or whether she was burned. She asked if we needed more napkins then didn't bother bringing them right away. We had to ask another server who also blew us off. The replacement entree for the spilled food came when everyone else was done eating. The place was a sad representative of the Wintzell's name.

Waitress was great. Food was great, drink was on point. Satisfied with the ratings which help influence me to come in. I would come back if I were ever in this area again. Oysters sampler was great, I was able to taste every flavor.

GREAT shrimp & grits and Cajun seafood pasta. We went for lunch with our kids. Their chicken and fries were delicious too. The chicken tasted very fresh. Our daughter had a hamburger, the bun was sweet and delicious. We would recommend trying this restaurant.

Popped up on Yelp near our hotel and a great find. Service was great and friendly, fried shrimp, green tomatoes and peach tea were super good. We'll make this a stop next time were through Mobile.

Fantastic! All of the oysters are great and the bread pudding is a delicious dessert.

The food is good, the staff is very nice, and the atmosphere is friendly. I have enjoyed their oysters(both raw and cooked), chicken wings, and a few fish dishes. I did not however enjoy their seafood gumbo. As a Cajun, it just wasn't right to me. You cannot beat their Happy Hour! $1.50 draft pints and $5 appetizers. You can seriously make a meal for less than $10 easy.

Not super impressed. We stopped here on our way to New Orleans, hoping for some decent seafood. It wasn't bad, but certainly wasn't great. The fried oysters on my salad were pertty good. The salad part though was very standard with a standard bottled vinaigrette on it. My husband's oyster po boy and fries were edible. Our server was nice and speedy enough, though it was a little odd she didn't like seafood and didn't know what some of the items on the plates were (at the table behind us: that might be a scallop? A scallop might be similar to a shellfish?).

I give this place three stars. Better than average? No - I wouldn't say it's a place about which to write home. Walking in, I get the feeling I'm more or less in a pub than a fine seafood establishment. The hostess was pleasant but seemed to lack the decorum of what I would expect from local seafood pride. I was quickly greeted by a smiling waitress who promptly took my drink order and brought it, along with some spongy, sopping, buttery garlic bread that was barely above room temp. I ordered the 8oz Sirloin with five fried shrimp, fried okra, and coleslaw. My meal was brought to me in a very reasonable time, and the steak was cooked to order, the shrimp wasn't overdone, and the okra was golden and crispy. But then there's the rub - the food was tasty and adequate. But was it above the rest? Not by a long shot. You could've easily convinced me I was eating seafood in Kansas rather than a proud, fine, Gulf Shores seafood restaurant (nothing against Kansan seafood). At one point, the on-duty manager walked over to me and asked how I was enjoying my meal. Nice touch. But tuck your shirt in and wipe the glistening, dripping sweat off your face and arms next time before approaching a patron's table! Bottom line - the food was acceptable. The atmosphere was flat with certain meritocracy, the service was reminiscent of a typical chain eatery, and the prices were a little more ambitious than they really should've been. I will take my $26 and eat elsewhere next time.

Try the bread pudding(no raisins!!!) and redfish Bienville that's quite impressive. $2 happy hour

First time here. Staff was friendly. Stopped for lunch on our way home from orange beach. Fish tacos were ok, bacon wrapped shrimp was good, didn't get any oysters because they were $20 a dozen. My Wife and I ordered the catch of the day special which was red fish, it was good not great and the plate presentation, fish on a plate and some rice in a little bowl. There was another little bowl with sauce for the fish, mine had a fly in it and the waiter ran off with it. And then when we got our bill, there was a six dollar extra charge for the catch of the day. It wasn't noted in the menu, and we weren't told up front. If I had more time I may of pitched a Bitch but We needed to get on the road and I just wanted out of there. All in all, over priced and not all that good. Would of had a better meal at Zaxby's. I will never eat there again. I was hoping they had a internet comment you could leave about the visit, but there was nothing on the receipt.

Stopped for lunch on our way from GA to LA. Had grilled white fish. Seasoned perfectly.

Try the oyster sampler, it's only $21.99. It has a mix of all there different style oyster preparations, so a little something for everyone. I got the Low Country Boil and I loved it! It was dirt cheap too, only $14.99! The flavor was perfect! Other menu favorites were Honey Citrus Chicken and Cajun Seafood Fettuccine. For dessert, try the BTYM Chocolate cake served with ice cream. By the way, BTYM stands for "Better Than Your Mama's!" LOL The service wasn't bad either. Our drinks stayed full, and meals came timely and fresh.

Stay away and do not judge Wintzell's based on this store. Arrived after 9:00 PM on Friday March 14, 2014 and sat at bar as alone. After 5 minutes I was able to flag down one of the 2 workers behind the bar...they were more interested in talking to regulars. Ordered the half and half. Well the fried oysters were hard. The fried shrimp are better at Captain D's. And all tasted like the fried okra I ordered. Sadly the "busy" servers never wiped down the counter nor cleared the bar of used plates and glasses. The hardest worker was the young man cleaning the Oyster bar...he even had to fil n for the disappeared hostess. Was staying at Comfort Suites next door so next time will go to the Ruby Tuesday next door ( yuk but surely better ). Sad is I grew up on the original Wintzell's downtown Mobile.

This was the first time that my wife and I ever been to this place, as well as was my first time trying fish taco. The fish tacos were excellent!! This has to be the next best thing since peanut butter & jelly

So-so food. Tourist attraction.

The location is pretty hidden, but the food was great! Contemplating between the crawfish pie, seafood au gratin, or crab omelette po-boy - finally the host recommended the crawfish pie. Needless to say, it was great - a pot pie with crawfish, boudin sausage, okra, and creamy sauce filling.

I've eaten at Wintzell's when it was family owned. And yes it was much better. Now corporation has it , we'll you know the story. Which is better family owned Pizza parlor or Corporation? Now the food is good BUT taste, quality, suffers. If you've eaten good sea food for a while you'll know what I mean.

I love Oysters!!!!! Price has gone up to $5.99 a dozen during Happy Hour but that's okay! Cheaper than most other places!!! Buffalo wings are decent. They removed the Nachos from the happy hour menu :-(

We had great service tonight. We came in with a party of 20 and the hostess and staff worked us in very quickly. Unfortunately the food was not good. The seafood pasta was the consistency of thin soup, hush puppies were burned, and the fried food was obviously not drained at all before plating. Definitely not somewhere I would go out of my way to eat again.

I ordered the half/half dinner for around $15. The dinner had 6 oysters and 6 shrimp. The food was tasty but for the money it should have been a bit more. They have quotes all over the restaurant that could be funny to some. The waitress did a good job.

I'm fairly new to Mobile and everyone recommended Wintzell's for a casual place to have a beer and some oysters. I'm a fan of oysters, but I can't really eat too many of them at once. A dozen is my limit and then I probably need a couple months off before my next oyster experience. Having said that, Wintzell's has some pretty average oysters at a pretty average price ($5/dzn for happy hr). I can't complain about it, but I've had better. I can't say I've been thrilled with any dish or appetizer that I've had here, but I haven't been disappointed either. The happy hour has some good deals and that's a big draw in and of itself. This Wintzell's is particularly convenient for after work, since it's on the way home. All the waitresses are cute and do a fine job with service. I'm pretty low maintenance; some of my friends aren't too thrilled with the service here, but I'm easy. You kind of have to stay on top of your bill however. We've caught a number of mistakes where the server forgot to charge the happy hour price. It happens, but too often for my taste. They seem to have moderate turnover with their wait staff, so it's hit or miss at times. All in all this place is average. I have to go here since it's convenient for myself and my coworkers. We need to expand a bit...

Don't go to this Wintzell's! Service is horrible! We have been at least three times and it is always slow!! You wait forever for drinks and food. Go to original Wintzell's downtown.

Out of town, looking for a place in Alabama to watch playoff Hockey and ave a beer, I found it here! Good service and good food. Bacon wrapped shrimp, oyster sampler, fried green tomatoes were all very good. If you are looking to watch the New York Rangers while traveling in Alabama, go here and ask Maggie to put on some Hockey. Good luck during college football season though!

The Gumbo was good as well as the hush puppies. Stay away from the crab claws but don't fear the oysters which are good.

Has to be the worst Wintzell's around, at least I hope so. We go to the one downtown everytime we are in or pass thru Mobile. It's always the highlight of our trip as my wife loves their raw and chargrilled oysters (she hasn't found any flavor of the chargrilled she hasn't loved). Now this location seems to not even be the same franchise. We ordered to go as we were just ready to get home which is why we didn't go downtown. My wife ordered the oyster Rockefeller and the guy at the oyster bar didn't even know what it was. It was undercooked and honestly looked like a raw oyster with cheese thrown on top. My son had the ribeye ordered medium well but the outside was well and the middle was medium rare at best. My steamed platter was ok the shrimp was over cooked but I'm not picky at all. I have never written a review because I've never felt compelled to. But this place is so far off the standard set by the downtown location and falls so short of that I have to warn ppl this is NOT indicative of what you'll get at the Wintzell's downtown. BTW, the to go order took 45 minutes and there was maybe 6 tables I would hate to see it when they're busy

Can't complain, great waitress everything was tasty.. Goda get the oyster sampler if u go!!

Went here for a late evening dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Good quality food, ample portions, and really good service. I had the fried jumbo shrimp. Proximity to the Gulf means good quality product. They were tasty and fried perfectly. Don't miss the bread pudding for dessert. Full bar.
