This bbq buffet, has been one of my favorite lunch places for years now. If you like bbq, you should try it out. There is something for everyone. If your on a diet, then you might want to stay away.

I had seen some mixed reviews about J Rogers BBQ, So my dad myself and my wife decided to visit J Rogers BBQ at 1:00PM on Tuesday August 12, 14 to check out the prices, menu, food, service, and the outward and inward appearance of J R Rogers BBQ. We all ate from the buffet and everything i ate was good and hot, the ribs was wonderful, the sausage was great, the mac & cheese was good, banana pudding was good, everything I ate looked and tasted great. The outward and inward appearance of the restaurant looked to be well kept up and maintained. I did not visit the restroom on this visit so I can not give a review on the appearance and up keep of the bathroom. The only thing negative I can say about our family dinning experience is that the sausage and BBQ rib containers wasn't refilled when both containers got so low you could see the bottom and I thought the price of the buffet was a little to high.

This is a BUFFET BBQ. Pretty good beef and pork ribs. They have raised prices to a point where it is better going to SONNY'S. Which is what I will be doing from now on

Decent soul food - decent ribs - cool atmosphere - friendly service - I will be back.

THIS is the place for great BBQ in Mobile. Without a doubt, the best pulled pork I've ever had. I travel all over the country, and I still haven't found a BBQ joint I like better. The only reason I dropped a star is because they don't have the pulled pork on the buffet.

This use to be the place to go if you wanted a good BBQ buffet. In my opinion not anymore. My family and decided to have dinner here May 7th and I left completely dissatisfied. The buffet was low in food and what was there was barely warm. The ribs were small and the sauce on them wasn't good at all. My husband didn't really complain about the meal, but me and my very picky 3 year old didn't eat much at all. I personally do not intend to return.

Great BBQ buffet! Good option for road trip. It's not too far from the highway, has great local BBQ and soul food, and you can get in and out quickly if you get the buffet. The banana pudding doesn't look too appetizing sitting in a plastic tub on the buffet, but it's fantastic!

Food and service was great, my only complaint is that the plates are to small!

We've been wanting to go by this place for several years now, but it is so far out of the way that we never really had the opportunity. Last week we decided to make a special trip, and so we went for lunch last Thursday at about 12:30 pm It was not terribly crowded, there were five or six tables of two and four persons. The first thing we noticed was the EXTREMELY high prices for our area. My wife and I each had the buffet. She had a glass of tea, I had a glass of water. Our check came to just over $30.00. We could easily have had dinner at ANY 5 star restaurant for that amount, much less for the inferior class buffet at an out-of-the-way Bar Be Que joint. And speaking of inferior grade buffet, I'm pretty sure the summer squash-zucchini mix was made from fresh vegetables, it was unfortunate for us that by the time we had arrived, any freshness or goodness they may have once exhibited was now long gone, That is to say, the squashes were all watery and limp to the point of disintegration, but the tough onion skins were still holding up very well, but not so as to enhance the dish but rather the opposite. I think the same was true of all the vegetables. The brown gravy came from a can or bottle. The cornbread dressing tasted like the "stove-top" brand. The pictures included by others actually look pretty darn good. It was not this way when we were there. The meats on the buffet consisted of some "country-sausage" style links, but not of one of the recognizable high-quality brands. They were gristly, tough-skinned, loaded with fat and with Bar Be Que sauce slathered on. NOT a pretty picture. My wife and I had both mistaken the Bar-Be-Cued chicken for pork chops, The blackened over-done finish of the thigh pieces were a perfect disguise, it was only at table when attacked with a knife that the true identification was made. Any moisture they may once have held had long since fled under the heat lamps. There were sections of pork ribs, but one must have particularly strong teeth to make successful bites on these over-tough little meat-sickles. There was no beef of any kind on the buffet, but our hopefully cheerful waitress told us that on the weekends there was some beef brisket put out, but that the price went up "by several dollars" to pay for this treat. The cold foods section of the salad bar was in keeping with the rest of the offerings. The bowl of overly tough jello with a few fresh strawberries cut in half was not inspiring. Some of you may be familiar with the standard "Restaurant-style" banana pudding that is so often found on buffets of our region, made with a gallon can of banana-flavored pudding, a bag of non-brand vanilla wafers, and a half dozen sliced, overly tired bananas, would not be too surprised to find this concoction on offer. As for the fresh watermelon, it was indeed unfortunate (for us, anyway) that the buyer for the restaurant does not know the secrets involved in choosing a nice, ripe melon. Not one of the slices was in any way sweet or good to eat. I must say, the potato salad was surprisingly quite good. As I think back on it now, I realize that the chances were slim indeed that EVERYTHING they made was expensive crap, but on consulting the menu, I found that take-out containers of 16 ounces of a side dish were $5.00 each. Yikes! There was a large bottle of the usual antiseptic hand cleaner next to the cash register, though I never saw anyone make use of it, and indeed, the level within the bottle seemed to indicate that it had never been used thus far. Go figure. As you might guess, we'll never venture so far afield for Bar Be Que again, not when "the Brick Pit" or "Saucy-Q" have such reasonable prices for a far superior product. Even the local "Sonny's Bar Be Que" franchise have these guys beat hands down, in any category you can think of. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON J, RODGERS BAR BE CUE !
