Country’s Barbecue Menu

This is mediocre barbecue. It's not bad, it's definitely not good, but it will get you through in a pinch. The food is pretty typical of chain barbecue and that means it's inconsistent. I've always received good service there and the prices are cheap. For the money, there are three locally owned barbecue joints in town that offer a consistently superior product.

After eating at Country's Barbecue for the first time in twenty years, I found it, in the words of Dante, "Without praise, without blame." My relatives and I arrived mid-afternoon to find the place almost empty, save for a single occupied table in each section of the building. (On the bright side, this *did* make it easy to chat with others at my table. Additionally, I see many more cars parked at Country's when I drive by on Sundays). The décor was reminiscent of Cracker Barrel (though only "2-D" antiques such as signs and posters; no plows or snowshoes)---advertisements for sodas from the 40's, old license plates, and Hank Williams and Bear Bryant memorabilia, etc. Our water was served in mason jars (odd shape, but plenty of water!) The servers were nice and helpful enough. Everyone at my table ordered a pork BBQ sandwich (chopped for the others, sliced for myself), along with one side item. The sandwiches were $7 each, with the sides another dollar (they would have been $2-something if they hadn't been purchased with the sandwiches). Now I enjoyed my sliced smoked pork sandwich, and the others in my party indicated they were satisfied with their chopped sandwiches. (None of us have eaten BBQ frequently, so your miles may vary if you're a true BBQ lover). However, I don't believe that they were SO tasty as to justify our paying $7 for average-sized sandwiches. I know food costs have gone up, but there are just so many other possibilities for the same sum of dining dollars. So while we might eat there again, we're not in a hurry to do so. But, if you don't mind having a receiving a modest (if tasty) serving of BBQ at a premium price, you may find yourself more endeared to Country's than we currently are. (Maybe you'll like their $17 steak). Other miscellaneous items of interest: The fries I ordered were not even slightly crisp. However, I suspect that instead of being botched, they were cooked according to a different "philosophy of frying fries" (or something like that). So I don't hold it against the restaurant, and in any case, I found the fries acceptable, though not outstanding. Also, each table had multiple bottles of BBQ sauce. We were told that the lighter the color of the bottle, the spicier the sauce. But one of my kin tried the lightest-colored bottle, and didn't find it particularly spicy (mind you, she said she enjoyed it nonetheless). I myself had no complaints with the sweet-sauce I used. To reiterate, it wasn't a bad experience, but I didn't find myself dying to return.

Service was great, food was generic. We didn't really enjoy our food but the staff made sure our experience was pleasant.

Dinner time Friday evening. Waitress, Jennifer was a joy. Took our drink order promptly and gave us a chance to look at the menu. Catfish ( grilled) special with fries and Brunswick stew (best around) was all good and filling. Wife got the sweet tea which is stated to be the best and she said it lived up to the reputation. This is not our first experience at country's and we will be back again soon for the BBQ. They don't hide the meat in sauce.

Good barbecue, not great. I had their fried green tomatoes and French fries. Green tomatoes were a little extra and I had water to drink but somehow my meal ended up being $19 with a $2 dollar tip... Not worth it

We came here because the other BBQ place up the road was closed until dinner hours. We were passing through on a road trip. The staff was friendly, the food was decent, and I would say we would go again. It wasn't amazing, but it was good food- filled our bellies for more travels

I am a long time fan of Country's BBQ, however my last visit to this location was far from the great food that I have experienced at other locations and from this location. It had need about 10 months or so since I had visited this location. The BBQ plate that I order was full of fat. Same goes for my wife's meal. In addition it was cold when it arrived at the table. I can only assume that they have a management change at this location. I was extremely disappointed in this meal. Definitely not to the standard of other Country's locations.

This foodie experience made me very sad :( I workout at the gym across the street & always smell the bbq before & after my workout...it smells so..."come & eat me"! We went around lunch. There was not a wait. The decor is old country style & the place looked rather old, but clean. The staff was nice & quickly seated us. We ordered 2 waters that came in large mason jars, very cute. I ordered the rib sandwich that came with 2 ribs and one side which I chose cabbage. My ribs were very dry with little flavor & my cabbage was super boiled in water that left it mushy with no flavor. My eating partner ordered the half chicken plate with two sides and also came with a thick piece of Texas style toast. They brought his food when he noticed the vinegar based cole slaw he tasted & immediately asked for potato salad to go with his bake beans. He reported his chicken being really dry and his sides just average. There were 3 sauces on the table, the lighter the bottle the hotter. I LOVE HOT! There sauces were not hot, but the lighter the bottle the more vinegar in the sauce. They are also known for their cheap lunch specials. The food came quickly, a plus. The total bill $18.00 a plus, but I would rather spend a little more and enjoy mouthwatering bbq. We both agreed that give you a HUGE water to wash the dry meat down with. I have eaten at several of these locally owned chains and always have a meh experience. Will I eat here again? Of course...it's fast, cheap, and convenient.

The 'Que was ok. The service and atmosphere were excellent. I really liked the large mason jar that contained my iced tea.

Stayed in Prattville for part of our golf trip last week and we had Country's Barbecue on the first night. I am a fan. Just like Barbara D. I would stay clear of the coleslaw. I was disappointed with all the coleslaw in Alabama for that matter. The BBQ pork was really good though, and the other sides: corn bread, mac & cheese, and pickled onions were solid. The hot sauces were not very hot but tasty. I know they had beer, not sure about full liquor bar. The water glasses are old glass jars which was fun and the place had a lot of cool memorabilia to look at on the walls. Our favorite was the sign just above the urinal in the men's room. I will upload the pic of that later tonight for your viewing pleasure. Overall, this place is solid. Good food, good service, and a location that is easily accessible. Check it out if you are ever in Alabama. I think they have a few other locations too.

Very impressed with the BBQ. I ordered the traditional chopped pork sandwich. It came with cold slaw and fried okra. Cold slaw had a strong vinegar taste which I would suggest not ordering. The okra was amazing but you really can't go wrong with anything fried! What I liked about this place is that the meat is served without the sauce i.e. you can choose from the 4 different sauces to use. Hot, spicy, mild, and mustard base. Hot wasn't too hot and I liked the spicy and mild. I'm a BBQ connoisseur and I would definitely visit this place before Jim N Nicks or Dreamland....wasn't impressed with either of those. Waitress that served me was very nice and attentive. She even offered to switch out the cold slaw when she noticed I wasn't eating it :)
