The only reason I am giving this place three stars is because the service was good and the appetizer was good. We ordered the fish dip appetizer which was very good. I ordered the stuffed fish and although the stuffing was good the fish was not fresh. My wife ordered the Reds and the snow crab and both were virtually impossible to peel or get the meat. The tea was soured the slaw was terrible and this place is like most here....overpriced. 75 dollars not including tip for two adults and two kids meals. Disappointed to say the least.

Other than not liking pulling the heads off of red Royal shrimp, this meal was very good! My husband ordered an additional side of the slaw because he liked it so much! The waitress was very attentive and showed me how to pull the heads off properly!

Great dinner! The crab legs were cooked perfectly. Our waiter was very helpful and took good care of us. This is in the harbor but there is shopping nearby while you wait.

My stuffed crabmeat shrimp was yummy; however, my husband had to send back his scrimp due to them being overcooked. He got the second batch but most of the scrimp was slightly overcooked. If you are famous for your royal reds, cook them right and fresh too.

Great seafood here. We ordered some crab clusters and the crab claw appetizer. Both came out fresh and delicious. Highly recommend this place. Also, no fried seafood at all!

Best meal we've had since arriving 5 days ago here in Orange Beach. The items (shrimp, crab legs, oysters, mussels, corn on the cob & potatoes) were steamed and seasoned to perfection. The "Small Platter" for Two was way too much food for my wife and I, but no complaints there! I highly recommend giving them a try!

My wife and I ate here our first night of vacation. Had excellent service and the food was delicious. Highly recommend starting with the oysters...they were fresh, tasty and a good value. We also ordered a half-pound of steamed shrimp and a cluster of crab legs. It was more than enough food for the two of us. We plan to go back again while we're here. Also talk to Mark, the bartender from Hungary. Nice guy and makes some good recommendations!

Locals...Love it. It's our go-to for special occasions, birthdays, and visitors for the Royal Reds and Snow Crab! Special thanks to Hannah for being wonderful and making sure everyone was happy and satisfied.

If you like seafood then you will love Gulf Shores Steamer. I suggest you try the steamed Royal Red shrimp. Succulent sweet steamed deep water shrimp that you will not get at just any place on the Gulf Coast! Has a taste that close to lobster. Eat the best and eat health steamed seafood from Gulf Shores Steamer

We had the platter for four: Royal reds, crab legs, mussels, oysters, corn and potatoes. You can pick and choose what you want. We got it to go. It was served in a nice to go container. The food was hot and delicious! Great for tourists visiting to get and take back to their hotel/condo.

Being from a small town in north Mississippi, I love The Steamer. Every time I come to Gulf Shores or Dauphin Island, I HAVE to go here! The staff is very nice and they are so friendly. The food is the best seafood I have ever eaten in the area! My family of four always gets the family of 6 dinner which is $70 I think? It's VERY well worth the money and the long wait! It is usually, mostly, exceptionally crowded! I love how convenient it is to the beach, it's not even 10 feet away from two famous Gulf Shores souvenir stores. We always love the crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, sausage, muscles, and oysters!

Being from Nashville, we wanted some real seafood. After asking around, and telling people we do not like friend food, we were told about this place. It really is THE place to go for fresh, steamed seafood as their menu even has an X over the word fried! we had the Crawfish Chowder soup, which was AMAZING. and ordered a plate of steamed veggies which were just what it sounds like. big plate that we shared, it was perfect. and of course got the steamers for 2 plate. everything was great. I would suggest eating the oysters and mussels first though as by the time we got to them, they were already cold a bit chewier than I would have liked (or they could have just been overcooked as well). Everything else was super delish. we waited for an outside table to sit on the marina and watched the sun go down, perfect way to end our short beach trip. if we ever go back to that area, I'll definitely go back.

Last night at the pool I overheard some folks talking about where to eat and someone mentioned this place. I'm so glad I eavesdropped! Took my inlaws, daughter and niece. The crab stuffed shrimp were delicious as were my crab cakes. My daughter and I shared an order of snow crab, it was perfect! Seasoned just right , good temp and they used real butter for dipping. Everything we had was delicious especially the bushwhacker cocktail, yummo!

I'm from the Mississippi gulf coast. So I should have known better than to go to a steamer restaurant. Their special was 2lbs of crab legs or 2 lbs of crawfish for $18. We also got a pound of shrimp to split between the 3 of us. The crab legs were pretty good...crawfish were ok...and the shrimp were awful. Only 3 shrimp were eaten our of out pound because we literally could not peel the rest. There was no seasoning on any of it. They boiled/steamed all of it, shrimp/crab/crawfish/potatos/corn in plain water. After our server brought our food, we never saw her again until it was time to pay. She asked how everything was...I told her everything was ok except the shrimp. We weren't looking for anything free or of that nature..,but it would have been nice to not pay $24 for a pound of shrimp that we couldn't eat. I did forget to mention that we also got blue crab claws as an app. They were ok. Just crab claws sitting in a bowl of Italian dressing. Not worth the $18. All in all we paid right at $100 for a not so great meal. We came back to the condo and made turkey sandwiches :/

I love this restaurant and am very exciting about their reopening on the 15th of January. The ability to order healthy is a key draw to Gulf Shores Steamer. They do have fabulous hamburgers too, but you CAN eat healthy if need be! Can't wait to see the new look and see my pal Ashley Ouelette again! Go have a date night and enjoy our beautiful beaches! The reviews were really good so we wanted to give them a try. They put us in a booth across from the kitchen. Let's just say there young staff is very vocal. We also had a computer in front of us were you put on the orders, that was fun like 6 workers would just stand around talking very loudly. I get sometimes not much to do but like I tell my kids indoor voices and I think the boss needs to tell them. Food was just average. The crab legs were delicious. I did not care for the shrimp, my son loved it. So we just thought the food was ok but the staff talking made the experience really not worth the money.

Fantastic experience for a group of 28. Less than 15 minute wait. Gracious staff. Delicious food. Matt and Dan nailed it. Our group couldn't have asked for more.

The food was ok, the drinks from the bar was horrible! I sent my drink back and got a beer, it tasted flat! My steak was good but not the best. Very disappointed! Our server even stated that the bar tender was not the best, but she done an outstanding job!

Great setting and casual atmosphere. Crab cakes were excellent. Not fried. Royal red shrimp very tasty and big.

We were seated by hostess, then sat for 20 minutes waiting for any attention from the staff, were never asked for our drink order or acknowledged in any way. We had looked at reviews and menu prior to coming,we knew what appetizers, drinks and entrees we wanted even prior to coming. We walked out and spent our $200.00 tab elsewhere. Very disappointed, we won't be back and will advise our friends and family of our experience.

Food was amazing! Service was not. I know it was just our server,i watched another and he gave great service. I've been a server for Years so I definitely know what it's like to be busy, but two tables and you forget crab crackers and coleslaw? I was pretty disappointed. With a different server I would go back again.

Great food! We had a pound of red shrimp to start, they come out hot with butter sauce, yum! My husband had the crab cake sandwich and I had the grilled shrimp po boy, not a bite left on our plates! Only drawbacks.... A little pricey and ok atmosphere.

Love, Love, LOVE the Royal Reds.... Food: We ordered the bucket of steamers for the two of us. It came with Royal Reds, Mussels, 2 clusters of King Crab Legs, and steamed oysters (which we subbed out for more shrimp because I only like my oysters raw). Apparently I am not well educated on shrimp. I have eaten many-a shrimp in my lifetime, but apparently not the Royal Red variation. They are amazing. They are sweet, juicy and just plain amazing. Next time, we will only order a huge ol' bucket of the Royal Reds. We also ordered two soups, One Gumbo and one Crawfish Chowder. Avoid the Gumbo like the plague, it was disgusting. However, the Crawfish Chowder was very good. Service: Good, except we ordered a dozen raw oysters. When i asked the waitress what kind of oysters they were, she replied "they are just oysters ma'am. Raw oysters." The answer i was looking for was more along the lines of "Kumamoto, Appalachicola, Miyagi, etc??" But she looked at me like I was a dummy. Ambiance: Very casual. Bathrooms were kind of funky/smelly. We will be back, and in the meantime I will be dreaming of the day I can eat Royal Reds again....

This is a really good place! Went here for dinner with a party of 5 on a Monday night and was seated immediately. The raw oysters were fantastic and the best we have had in OB thus far. We got the crab cake sandwich, a crawling combo with royal reds and crab legs, the crab bowl combo with crab legs and seafood gumbo, and stuffed shrimp. Everyone really liked their food. The atmosphere is excellent and this is a family friendly place. If you like your seafood steamed and not fried, then this is the place for you. I highly recommend it!

This place is great! The royal red shrimp were so delicious! All steamed ! The best I had all week on the beach.
(5)
Jay T.
The Good: Great location. Gumbo was very tasty and rich. The Bad: The steamed royal red shrimp were either previously frozen or overcooked, making them impossible to peel without hacking them to pieces. Fish special was anything but. Service was very sweet and polite but our server was clearly slammed and stressed and we felt rushed as a result. Also, does anyone in town here serve *actual drawn butter* with seafood? I'm not talking about the gallon jugs of liquid "butter-flavored" trans fat they serve at movie theaters. I mean the stuff from cows. Moo? The Ugly: Table tops were multiple boards, like picnic table tops, which meant god-knows-how-many-months of shell, crumbs and dried food bits were visible, wedged in the crevices between. Maybe try some butcher paper table covers that can be quickly changed between guests? It's really not appetizing. And when the places you CAN see aren't well cleaned, it makes you wonder about the places you can't see. All that said, I'd still rate GSS a notch above most of the gross (and grossly overrated) tourist seafood joints in the Gulf Shores area. But man, that's a backhanded compliment if ever there were one.

The restaurant was completely empty on a Sunday afternoon. The food was okay, but it really didn't have a taste to it. No seasoning or freshness, just BLAND!!! Took my mother there for her birthday and was very disappointed with the service. I had a party of 9 and instead putting us together by putting 2 tables together we were seat at 2 separate tables giving separate check and the gratuity charge was out of this world. Our dinner was brought out separately 10 to 15 minutes between. The only thing my mother enjoyed the gumbo and she said that it taste as if it came out of a can. The reds where either over cooked or under cooked because as we tried to peel them them the meat would just tear apart. I have no intention on ever going back.

We had a good experience. The raw oysters were fresh and the shrimp/crab boil was tasty but be advised the butter is fake popcorn butter!

Needed a quick place to go and picked this from yelp. Wait was short and service was ok. I got a simple chicken sandwich and it was fabulous! As an appetizer we got some steamed and they are fabulous as well. Be warned, steamed food for the most part is sold in large portions ( to feed up to four). Would recommend.

Colleen Z.
Decided to give another try. Food was more fresh than previous meal. Service still good. Crab was fantastic. Shrimp messy but good. Cole slaw just ok and corn still overdone but meal was not as salty, thankfully. We ate outdoors and watched as fishing boats returned with their daily catch. It was a fun evening.

We were looking for fresh food, and we found it. Our group of 12 didn't have a wait the evening we went. At first, our waitress took a while to get our drinks and orders, but after the rocky start things went well the rest of the night. The two people who order the crab cakes raved about how they were some of the best they had ever had. I ordered the 3 bunches of crab legs for $24. I loooove me some crab legs and I can eat a lot. The 3 bunches was a great amount. The legs were big and definitely worth the $24. I also ordered the gumbo, which was spicy and delicious. I didn't find the place to be incredible or anything, but you really get what you pay for and I'd go back.
Great little spot across the street from the beach. Ice cold Yuengling on draft and a really good blackened mahi sandwich. This place is in a beach town so if you are expecting 5 star service and table linens this is not your place. Will go back for sure next time in town. Very casual and everything we had was better than good.

Had a great lunch! Red shrimp and a crab cluster with hot butter were enough for the two of us. A nice change from the fried seafood found most places down here.

Great place!! My wife and I have been enjoying The Steamer for years! Never lets us down! The royal reds & crab legs are the best in the gulf! I highly recommend The Gulf Shores Steamer for great food and a great time sitting on the bay.

Great Dinner! "Steamer for 2" was perfect and had plenty of food. If you're tired of fried food and want great grilled/steamed food, this is the place for you. We found a new favorite dinner spot! Tip: if the wait's too long, check out the bar. We had a seat AND our meal before we could finish our first beer.

We had absolutely delicious steamed Royal Red shrimp and crab legs here. The Royal Reds are sweet and taste a bit like lobster. The seafood is fresh, the service is great, and we'll definitely be back. Recommended!

No Fried, all Fresh & all Fantastic Vacationing on the north gulf shore, one expects to have their share of some great tasting fresh seafood. This was a hell of a place to start! They stress the fact that nothing there is fried, beyond the fact that "Steamer" is right there in the name, they make sure you know. The place is typical seafood shack style, picnic tables inside, roll of paper towels and a tray of sauces at each table. The menu was pretty self explanatory, but not much a southern traveler we had to ask what were Royal Reds. "you're gonna love 'em" is all she said, and we got them. The girl got a plate of crab legs w/ the Royal Reds, which essentially were giant shrimp, like prawns. You have to fight them out of the shell a little bit, but when you do, it is like a nice chunk of lobster meat ready to go! Totally worth the effort. I went with the blackened Red Fish, having never had it. Just delicious is the only thing I can really say. We also got the crab cakes topped w/ tiny craw fish. Coming from the north east we have been treated to crab cakes one way, over the top breading and spices, and just a super full feeling when done eating. These were nice and thin, very very low on breading, and highly concentrated crab meat and a great sauce on top. The craw fish were a nice touch too. It was a tasty change. Wrap up; Get the royal reds if you like lobster. Why not just get lobster you ask? These would be about 1/3 of the price and literally have the same great taste.

Party of 6 for lunch. No waiting. Service was spotty. Crab legs were steamed to long or had been sitting too long.

Ate at the Steamer after several years. Smoked tuna dip is still delicious. Shrimp salad was also good. Steamed shrimp & crab legs had good flavor, though shrimp was a tad overlooked. Service was ok. Biggest question was the "melted butter" that looked like yellow pudding. Noticed it was like that on all the tables.

Yes, the "not fried" food was all very good. Appetizers: Crab cakes were first rate with plenty of crab and a delicious sauce. We also enjoyed the generous portion of marinated crab claws. The shrimp dip was very good with whole shrimp and a nice sauce. Crawfish Corn Chowder was great. Seafood Gumbo was definitely above average but not something to rave about. Entrees: Royal Reds (shrimp) are amazing. Tastes more like lobster than shrimp and they are served with a generous portion of butter for dipping. Snow Crab Legs are perfectly steamed and served in generous portions. Blackened Mahi-Mahi was very good and grilled Tilapia was great. As good as the crab cakes and fresh fish selections were, wish we had tried their stuffed fish. Maybe next time. Sides: Roasted potatoes were good and not over-cooked but mini corn ears were a bit overdone as is usually the case with "boils". Slaw, though fresh, was not notable and their slaw dressing could use some work. Did not sample cocktails or desserts.

On our day the food was over cooked. Everything was hard to peel and the tools they gave you were a pair of pliers... Literally the kind you use to work on your car. And a little plastic fork. Nothing stood out. Bottom line you can do MUCH better anywhere else.

Waited over an hour which was fine understandable with the crowd. Expecting that this place would be phenomenal we didn't mind. After while we started to wonder why it has taken an extra half an hour longer so we go an inquire and said that they couldn't find our name. So they put us at a table fit for six when we had a party of nine. We ordered the shrimp which was seasoned well but well over cooked, the shells were stuck to them so you would get shreds of meat with each bite. We ordered a bushwacker which was absolutely gross. Tasted like milk and rum. Our platters were suppost to come with potatoes corn and slaw, which we did not receive the slaw until we finally found our server to request it and upon receiving it I couldn't see past the five pounds of pepper it was drenched in... After all that after only seeing our server to take the order and drop it off, no pre bussing or anything we were slapped with a fabulous gratuity for his absence... Well I can honestly say that I would rather eat at long John silvers then return here. I'm sure there are some good experiences here but after the service and the dirty restaurant which I'm not sure how they are allowed to stay open with some of the things I saw I will not be returning here with any of my family.

Very good. Had snow crabs (unique - if you're from up north and used to plan snow crabs and butter-- flavored with old bay / cajun seasoning). 1/2 lb of shrimp ( head on Was a little different) and a serving blue crab claws soaked in s spicy, butter, garlic, old bay and Cajun spice. AWESOME!!! Service was a little slow for a weekday night but friendly. A great start to our vacation. (In case you can't find it, turn left before the bridge or about 1/4 mile before our iPhone said to turn- park under ground and walk up and back towards boat docks).

Great place! We enjoyed the outdoor patio while we tried every type of oyster they make. They have a combination oyster platter where you get a dozen oysters of 3 diferent varieties. The outdoor patio is also smoker friendly so we were able to smoke and enjoy a beer in between our oyster order. It was a great relaxing "beachy" atmosphere. We returned the next day for lunch and ordered the steamed seafood platter. This was great. It hit the spot for the steamed seafood we had been searching for. Crab legs, mussels, potatoes, shrimp, etc. We will be returning.

Looking for seafood close to our hotel, we came across Gulf Shores Steamer in a plaza by the marina. A bunch of restaurants here and all very busy. About 1 1/2 wait Saturday about 8pm. Live music in plaza made the time go by. Were seated - typically seafood joint atmosphere. Waitress was very attentive, lively place. Ordered the Steamer Platter for 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) - you get PLENTY of delicious seafood, crab legs, oysters (I substituted steamed for on the half shell), mussels, tons of Royal Reds shrimp (head on and a little work); potatoes, and corn. We ate and ate and ate and it was so good. Only negative to the meal (besides all the peeling and cracking we did) was the butter came out like a thick congealed paste (it was still tasty and did the job though). This place is LOUD - family had a great time. Got out of there for under $100 (family of 4 with tip) and even had some shrimp for lunch the next day. Would definitely recommend. Just go in with the beach attitude and live life slow, Enjoy.

We've been vacationing in Gulf Shores for years and come here every time. They have the best Royal Reds. During the summer season you will definitely wait.. But well worth it.
(5)
Andrea Y.
Eh.... I got the royal reds. I'm guessing they were frozen as the shells were GLUED to the meat while pealing. Tasted dry as well. Also ordered the marinated crab claws- a bunch of small claws drenched in what tasted like Italian dressing. Husband had ribeye- not recommended. Very casual atmosphere. 2 adults, 1 kid = $70. Wouldn't recommend.

THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. What a great seafood place!! Best shrimp in town and you get a ton. Great claws pieces too. Best prices in the area. Tried the combo basket. A lot of food for the money. Also the cracked claws for $15 is an awesome deal if they have them. Really terrific key lime pie.
(5)
Elly H.
Steamers is a mixed bag. The grilled shrimp was some of the best I've had in the 4 days I've been in Gulf Shores. But... the royal reds were old, tough to peel and tasteless I had crab scraps mixed in as well. After we got the horrible reds, we left and never got to the entrees since pointing out the crab scraps did not even get an apology.
(2)
Rachel J.
After being sick of so much fried seafood, it was so nice to be at a restaurant with healthier options. The crab legs are fresh and the royal reds delicious. They have a small patio overlooking the marina. Service was quick too.
(5)

Ate lunch there last week. Good service, large portions for the lunch menu. Great food!
(4)
Jeff K.
So good to finally eat some where that they dont feel the need to fry all of their seafood. Fried seafood has a time and place, and this is neither the time nor the place. We all had fish sandwiches or po'boys for lunch and were so pleased with everything that came out. Plus their chowder and the jumbalaya to start were AWESOME.
(4)
Brian M.
The food was fresh on my visit and I was pleased with the experience. We had a steamer combination for 2 and it was a pretty solid value, with mounds of crab legs, mussels, and shrimp. Our server allowed us to substitute our steamed oysters for raw, which was nice (expected, but still nice!) The restaurant itself is small and a bit cramped, I guess they're going for that "hole in the wall" feel. Not a fan of the jumbo bottles of melted butter on the table, kind of gross, and is it really that much trouble to send out a tub of fresh melted butter?

The comments about a limited menu are somewhat valid. I tend to like lots of variety. But then, the main thrust of this place is steamed seafood. I can't fault them for not having wildly extensive offerings. I started with the 1/2 pound royal reds. heads on, peel & eat. The seasoning was, to me, quite perfect. You'll get a little messy eating them, but that's perfectly fine by me. Very good start, and I want more. The crab cake sandwich did not live up to its end of the bargain, though. The cake itself may have been cooked in oil that was not hot enough. It wasn't really crispy, and didn't taste much like crab. It was sort of underwhelming. I liked the red onion instead of white or yellow, and the tomato was a nice red and very flavorful, not the white-ish, too firm tomatoes you see so much now. The staff was warm and friendly, but not the most attentive I've ever experienced. (That said, they weren't bad at all. Some might appreciate not being smothered by a waitress coming to your table constantly.) My server was the lovely Marina, from Moldova. She was a bit surprised I'd heard of Moldova, but not surprised the closest I'd been was Russia. :) Will I be back? Absolutely. I just may pass on the crab cake sandwich next time.

Awesome reds! Get the bucket!

Went for lunch on first day in OB, gumbo was alright, oysters were smaller than expected, royal reds were great. But the shining star was the blacken redfish po'boy....it was a home run. The service was ok, our waitress was a little over whelmed, but she did an alright job.

Debra P.
Excellent reds. Best meal we has this week. Great key lime pie too.

I've been eating at the steamer more than 10years, I've never had a bad experience. We always do some variation of a seafood platter and we always walk away fat-n-happy. Love me some Gulf Shores Steamer.
(5)
Daniel B.
Corn chowder was just ok. Crabs were nice but nothing fantastic and the shrimp were extremely bland.
(2)
Michele D.
Best ever. Cajun oysters, Asian grilled tuna, crab pieces...all delicious.
(5)
Darren B.
Menu selection was pretty thin. Went there for the oysters and not only were half of them small but all of them were dirty. A good shucker makes sure they don't drag the outside shell and fragments into the oyster, or at least wash the tidbits out. The shrimp were mediocre in size and flavor. However, I did have a tuna filet sandwich which was pretty good and we had crabcakes the size of hamburgers that were awesome so, win some, lose some. Definitely order the crabcakes.
(2)
Taylor B.
Good food, service was good. Oysters were fantastic, gumbo was decent, and price was fairly decent for the type of food.
(4)
Rena W.
Crab legs and royal reds were very good. Great place if u don't want another fried platter. It is located in a nice shopping complex where you can walk off you dinner and there was live music in courtyard.
(4)
David S.
My wife enjoyed this place more than I did. The seafood was good. Service was nice. No real view here, we ate outside. You got a good look at the parking lot and a large souvenier shop. I was OK with the limited menu. Crab cakes were good, not great. I don't know if it is a Gulf Shores thing or I am spoiled from being in the Midwest but... don't give me corn if it is obviously frozen and not in good shape. Will return when in in the area.
(4)
Dan M.
PRICEY! Wife and I had lunch- crab cake appetizer ($12), me a burger ($8.60) and her blue crab claws ($13) with a side ($1.50) and a couple cokes ($4). Total $43, and with tip: fifty bucks. For lunch?! And one of us just had a burger? Ouch. Food was good, but not that freakin good. They need a lunch menu with more reasonable prices. ( I was going to have a tuna steak sandwich but didn't want to pay 22 bucks for it.).
(2)
Kathi G.
The royal reds were outstanding. I have yet to find a non-mushy ear of corn. Great service.
(4)
Heather S.
A family tradition! We've been going here for years and years and just love it. The royal reds cannot be beat. Their new location is in Orange Beach, but nothing about the quality of food or service has changed. Can't wait to head back in August!
(5)
Elisabeth E.
This is a decent place to eat-the Royal Reds are truly delicious BUT they were so difficult to peel it almost ruined the experience. Te boiled shrimp tails were great. Don't get the blue cheese baked oysters- were almost too salty to eat. Service was mediocre.

Jeff L.
Visited the restaurant with the extended family on a vacation and had a great experience. I was skeptical at first - it looks like you would expect a tourist restaurant to... a bit cheesy but on the marina. We had a few appetizers to start. The shrimp dip was okay, nothing to write home about. I liked the crab-stuffed shrimp and the rest of the family loved the raw oysters. For the main meal we had the large steamer plate - steamed crab legs, whole shrimp, and mussels. (We asked them not to include oysters.) It was fresh and delicious. I am not a real big fan of shrimp with their heads still attached but once I removed those they were great. My 3 year old had a pb&j sandwich - they seemed to grill it. He loved it. After the sandwich, he inhaled the mussels as well as a few shrimp and pieces of crap meat. I guess you would say he is a fan as well. I would definitely go back and order the streamer plate again.

Addie D.
The food was not good, too expensive and our service was not anything to brag about. My daughter LOVES crab legs and tried to eat them as many times as she could while we were at the Gulf. However, she hated these and was extremely disappointed with the whole experience. We were only allowed one drink refill and our waiter didn't care about what we thought. We will not go back when we visit Gulf Shores again next year.

Delicious! 4 of us shared a steamed platter. Never had anything like this. Fun experience! Reasonably priced.

My gf and I only stoped by here for a couple of drinks and had the crab cakes for an appetizer it was fantastic. The owner and his wife were super friendly. I swear next time I'm ordering food.

Great food, but expect to get messy! Visiting with the entire family the steamer has menu items for up to six people. Around $70 for a full platter of oysters, shrimp, and crab legs along with vegetables the steamer had myself and my entire family licking our hands! A great find on our first trip to the area.

A+ .....royal reds and crab legs were great

Spent the dinner with family, ordered the seafood platter for two. The shrimp and crab legs where over cooked. Very hard to peel the shrimp and where not hot. To crack the crab legs, they gave us a pair of pliers, I'm talking "duralast", yes from Lowes, and little plastic forks to get the crab meat out. The tuna sandwich was good, as were the hot wings. Yes they are hot n spicy and good. The gumbo was ok. I'm not trying to bad mouth this place but when you live in Destin Fl for 30 years, you know a thing or two about good or bad seafood. Sorry but this place wasn't worth the money, there are better places to eat down here, just not here.

We met a couple of locals at this place and sat on the deck outside. Our Estonian waitress was an absolute delight. She kept our drinks full and kept checking on us regularly. I can't say that I've had steamed seafood before but I am now a fan. The flavor seems to get infused into the food. I had a shrimp/crab platter. Everything was piping hot and perfectly cooked. I didn't like the overcooked corn half but everything else was delicious.

My family and I recently ate at Gulf Shores Steamer on a family vacation. The building looks to be an older building and I thought it would be a nice little hole in the wall with a lot of outdoor seating. When we first walked in I was hit with a strong smell of Clorox, I think they had already began to do their nightly duties. But, we decided to stay anyways. The service was okay. It took the server at least 3 to 4 minutes before we were greeted. After that the service was better, but we still had a few empty drinks at times. The food was served fast and okay in taste. My snow crab legs were luke warm. The dinner was also pretty expensive for the quality of food and service. I think it's a tourist trap. I would not personally eat there again, but I have heard other people really like the place.

I enjoyed a bucket of Royal Reds and WOW they were great. Hot and obviously fresh, plenty of flavor. Friendly people and we received prompt attention. The food arrived in a short time and drinks always stayed filled. I'll certainly return on future visits to the area.

As far as I'm concerned this was the best restaurant in Gulf Shores! Service was good even though it was busy each time we went there. Nothing fried! Seafood was never meant to be fried and everywhere you go in Gulf Shores there is fried seafood on the menu - yuck! I happened to meet the owner and he was a super guy who went out of his way to accomodate my family during a very hot evening (100+) where we chose to eat outside instead of waiting for a seat in the air conditioning. The food is reasonably priced with very good portions. The royal red shrimp still have their heads attached and if you're not used to that (like me) it was a little intimidating at first, but it got better a half pound into the pound I ordered. The mahi mahi was perfect (I ordered mine blackened) and my wife loved the grilled shrimp.

My wife and I came here with some friends at their demand. This was a must visit on their list, and I now understand why. We had the best seafood of our entire vacation here at this restaurant! The atmosphere is ultra laid back. The outdoor seating is obviously the place to be as the view was great, and every table was packed. We had to sit indoors, but will hope for a chance to do more than look off the patio at the boats in the harbor area there from their deck. To get things started we had the crab cakes. These are the best crab cakes I've ever had! They didn't skimp on the crab meat, and the seasoning was amazing! My wife and I had a giant plate for two. The Small Steamer was a good combination of 4 crab clusters, 2 pounds of shrimp, 4 steamed oysters, and 1/2 pound of mussels. We were so stuffed! Everything was spot on and delicious!

I was visiting my mom and we were looking for a new seafood haunt. I really wanted some down and dirty crab so we tried Gulf Shores Steamer because they had a great price on a pound of legs. We opted to sit at the bar as the restaurant is definitely a dive - wooden tables, paper towel rolls and tiny! The bar was the right choice as we had a fantastic young bartender I believe named John. He was very friendly, helpful and patient while we were being indecisive on our cocktail choices. We were at a dive...in Florida...at the beach..obviously we opted for ridiculous fruity drinks with umbrellas instead of our normal bourbon. The drinks were delicious. Food was a much easier decision. I got 1 1/2 lbs of crab legs with traditional sides of red potatos, corn and coleslaw. The coleslaw was bland and flavorless and the corn was pretty standard KFC corn... BUT, the crab was cooked perfectly. It was so buttery I barely needed to use the melted butter which I normally drink out of the cup... Gulf Shore Steamer also seasons the outside of crab with a bit of Old Bay style seasoning so it had a little extra kick that I enjoyed as well. I love red potatos so no complaints there. My mom enjoyed the crab stuffed shrimp. They were plump and a large portion and served with a jasmine rice. I would definitely come back when I visit Florida again and will dream of stuffing my face with crab legs. It was definitely a dinner worth working for.

I've worked in the restaurant biz for over 15 years and I am in my current position as a bar tender for 5 years. I understand that restaurants have bad days. Things just go wrong sometimes. I will just say a couple of things. 1. The older blonde short-haired lady who greeted us seemed drunk to us. I am not sure if she was drunk or high or if she was just weird. Either way, it's bad for business. 2. The royal reds were very overcooked. If steaming seafood is a restaurant's specialty, my shrimp should be steamed correctly. I felt cheated paying $30+ for something as disappointing as overcooked shrimp. On a positive note, the server was nice and the flavor of the seafood was good. Peeling overcooked shrimp is not.

Decent pricing considering the area (a little overpriced being that it's a tourist are.) The shrimp was stemmed & seasoned to perfection & we had a great dinner!

was here for vacation with 5 friends and sat outside by the harbor. The view was beautiful; however, after the sun went down we were covered with small, flea like bugs. The food and service were good. I had the crab stuffed fish and it was delicious. The portion sizes were generous. Other than the bugs, this place has great food and is a change from the typical fried seafood in the area.

I love that nothing is fried in this place! A bit of a tourist trap, but all of the restaurants in this area are pretty pricey. My sister got the crab cakes (to die for) and I got the stuffed shrimp (so good). We sat at the bar and had some oysters (ok, but not in season in July). Our bartender was great, and everything came out in a timely manner. I wanted to come back and devour some crab cakes before we left but I never got the chance. I'll be back the next time I'm in the area! :)

The wife and I really liked this place though pricey. I had the blue crab claws and they made them extra spicy for me. I really enjoyed them. The wife had the gumbo and loved it. I tried the gumbo and thought it was decent but could've been better. Little bland for me but wife loved it. Service was good as well. Will probably return.

We had a delicious steamed platter for 2. Everything was cooked perfect. We sat at the bar where the service was perfect! The manager came out and talked to us and learned that we come to eat there every time we are in town and he gave us the local discount which was very nice of him! We will be back.

My favorite meal while in Orange Beach. We got the steamer platter for two and it was excellent. Will definitely be back next time we visit the area.

I am totally disappointed and can say will never recommend this place. The only good thing here was the waitress but even after being brought over cooked shrimp twice did not offer anything off the bill. What's worse is that I brought a friend here from up north to eat the royal reds and he could not even peel them they were so overcooked. It looked like they were cooked in the morning and just sat there all day. We complained about the first plate and were then brought another that had a hug pile of shrimp parts at the bottom of the plate (I will post a picture). Many of the shrimp on the plate were also small as I thought royal reds were large gulf shrimp. I could have gotten the same size at the local grocery and cooked them myself and saved the $21.00 for the plate. Ambiance was very noisy with tons of families and kids everywhere running around. I know its the beach but just because your on vacation does not give you an excuse to take a vacation from parenting. There are much better places along the beach for seafood this time of year. Try those.

My wife and I ate here last summer. We got a stead mix bucket of seafood. We both thought that teh oysters tasted a littl odd but ate them anyway. Oh my gosh did we ever pay for it. We both got very sick...never again

Did not have a great experience here. Nice building and waiter but I ordered the crab cake sandwich and kept biting into shell. Took three bites and each had shell. Couldn't eat it

Great steamed seafood! Went here one evening with my in laws and my 2 year old. We ordered the platter for four and was not disappointed! Lots of oyster, mussels, crap legs, and of course the great Gulf shrimp! Great portion size and the wait staff was excellent! I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Gulf Shores or Orange Beach!

Ok WOW what a great place. Myself and amazing girlfriend were looking for a place for fresh seafood with peel and eat shrimp, and a place that does steamed. Well guess what we found this cool place, very clean and the service was fast and efficient. Our waiter was on his game. We decided to go with the gumbo for the appetizer and the steamer for 2 which came with shrimp ( tons of shrimp ) crab legs, mussels and oysters....oh shoot we passed on the oysters and they gave us some extra shrimp. Everything we had was very good what a great find! Will be going back soon!

A Must try...had the steamer platter for 4...shrimp with crab oyster corn and potato. ....must like seafood...my daughter had the chicken breast and it was tasteless and dry...not recommended. ...service was good atmosphere was decent ...I will be back !!!!

This was my first time at the Steamer and definitely will go back next year. Our waitress was excellent. My favorite was the crawfish corn chowder, great flavor! My husband had the gumbo and we both preferred the chowder. I had royal reds and of course they were delicious too.

Great view of the Marina, relaxed atmosphere, good service and Good Food!!!! Opens at 11 on Sundays it seems cause we were this first in at 1110. Enjoy this good eatery.

AMAZING. All boiled NOTHING fried!! Absolutely loved our experience here. We ordered almost everything that looked good on the menu & it exceeded our expectations. Arrived when it was pretty crowded & didn't even have to wait but 30 mins in which we used to walk around the marina. We ordered the crab cakes, Crab claws & the stuffed shrimp. Every one blowed our taste buds away. I recommend all of these appetizers. As for entrees, the crab clusters & grilled shrimp as well as the gumbo & their special of the day two pounds of crawfish. Crawfish & shrimp were cooked & seasoned perfectly. Lovely atmosphere & excellent service, very kind employees! (As well as sea salt scrub in the ladies bathroom(: ) Definitely will be coming back!!

The crab season they use is salt!! No taste of spices at all! Spent $100 and felt super cheated!! Only giving 2 stars cause our waitress was sweet!! Never again will we be back!!

Great place to try Royal Red Shrimp. Friendly service as well. If you don't know how to eat the Royal Red Shrimp they will gladly show you! If you go in the off season make sure you call to see if they are open.

Wow. Just wow. Shrimp skewer app, crab cake app, and the Bay Steamer combo. AMAZING. I didn't care for the oysters but it was my first time so it was probably me not the oysters. The mussels were good..... The crab was excellent...... The shrimp. Oh but the shrimp. I was a little scared when they came out with their heads on. I'm from Landlocked Midwest and this was my first time with intact shrimp. Once I "Ned Starked" the little guys and popped them in my mouth I was in heaven. I wouldn't be surprised if I sneak back over there just for the royal red shrimp. Tastiest shrimp I've ever had. My mother and sister in law were a bit grossed out. If visual presentation like a critter coming with its head still attached bother you go for the shrimp skewers. Also very tasty!

(3)Rita B.
Other than not liking pulling the heads off of red Royal shrimp, this meal was very good! My husband ordered an additional side of the slaw because he liked it so much! The waitress was very attentive and showed me how to pull the heads off properly!
(4)Michelle G.
Great dinner! The crab legs were cooked perfectly. Our waiter was very helpful and took good care of us. This is in the harbor but there is shopping nearby while you wait.
(5)Beth G.
My stuffed crabmeat shrimp was yummy; however, my husband had to send back his scrimp due to them being overcooked. He got the second batch but most of the scrimp was slightly overcooked. If you are famous for your royal reds, cook them right and fresh too.
(2)Tyler C.
Great seafood here. We ordered some crab clusters and the crab claw appetizer. Both came out fresh and delicious. Highly recommend this place. Also, no fried seafood at all!
(5)Tim R.
(5)Brian P.
(5)TIFFANY K.
Locals...Love it. It's our go-to for special occasions, birthdays, and visitors for the Royal Reds and Snow Crab! Special thanks to Hannah for being wonderful and making sure everyone was happy and satisfied.
(5)Ronnie B.
(5)Gina A.
We had the platter for four: Royal reds, crab legs, mussels, oysters, corn and potatoes. You can pick and choose what you want. We got it to go. It was served in a nice to go container. The food was hot and delicious! Great for tourists visiting to get and take back to their hotel/condo.
(5)Landon S.
(5)Randi T.
(4)Tracy B.
(5)Jeryn B.
(2)Michael T.
I came back for more on this Trip. Second night in a row. Great fresh seafood and service. Try the Royal Reds Shrimp and the Crab Cakes!!!
(5)Raymond W.
Ray
(5)Erin J.
(3)Shelli C.
Fantastic experience for a group of 28. Less than 15 minute wait. Gracious staff. Delicious food. Matt and Dan nailed it. Our group couldn't have asked for more.
(4)Mark H.
The food was ok, the drinks from the bar was horrible! I sent my drink back and got a beer, it tasted flat! My steak was good but not the best. Very disappointed! Our server even stated that the bar tender was not the best, but she done an outstanding job!
(1)Lisa B.
Great setting and casual atmosphere. Crab cakes were excellent. Not fried. Royal red shrimp very tasty and big.
(4)Taylor A.
(1)Nanner E.
The best place to eat by far!! Prices are great and the food is too! This place is worth trying!
(5)John J.
Absolutely great and friendly staff. Nothing is fried and the quality is great for the price charged.
(5)Kaitlyn M.
Food was amazing! Service was not. I know it was just our server,i watched another and he gave great service. I've been a server for Years so I definitely know what it's like to be busy, but two tables and you forget crab crackers and coleslaw? I was pretty disappointed. With a different server I would go back again.
(3)Melissa G.
Great food! We had a pound of red shrimp to start, they come out hot with butter sauce, yum! My husband had the crab cake sandwich and I had the grilled shrimp po boy, not a bite left on our plates! Only drawbacks.... A little pricey and ok atmosphere.
(4)Marisa N.
(4)Steve B.
(4)Shelley S.
This place is great! The royal red shrimp were so delicious! All steamed ! The best I had all week on the beach.
(5)Jay T.
(2)Dion A.
(2)R A.
We had a good experience. The raw oysters were fresh and the shrimp/crab boil was tasty but be advised the butter is fake popcorn butter!
(4)Chris M.
(4)Colleen Z.
(4)Sable B.
(4)John T.
My wife and I are giving this an average review because while the location is nice and pretty the seafood seemed pretty average. It was good but not outstanding. I am comparing this to Bahama Bob's in Gulf Shores. Bahama Bob's Beachside Café looked awful and the parking was awful. The food however was outstanding. At Gulf Shores Steamer the building was super nice, parking was easy but the food was just average. It was a hassle to go to Bahama Bob's Beachside Café but it was well worth it. The food quality reminded me of Red Lobster.
(3)Vince L.
Great little spot across the street from the beach. Ice cold Yuengling on draft and a really good blackened mahi sandwich. This place is in a beach town so if you are expecting 5 star service and table linens this is not your place. Will go back for sure next time in town. Very casual and everything we had was better than good.
(4)Decker A.
Had a great lunch! Red shrimp and a crab cluster with hot butter were enough for the two of us. A nice change from the fried seafood found most places down here.
(4)Terry S.
Great place!! My wife and I have been enjoying The Steamer for years! Never lets us down! The royal reds & crab legs are the best in the gulf! I highly recommend The Gulf Shores Steamer for great food and a great time sitting on the bay.
(5)Sarah L.
(5)Inessa F.
We had absolutely delicious steamed Royal Red shrimp and crab legs here. The Royal Reds are sweet and taste a bit like lobster. The seafood is fresh, the service is great, and we'll definitely be back. Recommended!
(4)Nick C.
(4)Becky B.
Party of 6 for lunch. No waiting. Service was spotty. Crab legs were steamed to long or had been sitting too long.
(2)Coral E.
(3)A S.

(5)Andrea Y.
(2)Jim M.
(5)Elly H.
(2)Rachel J.
After being sick of so much fried seafood, it was so nice to be at a restaurant with healthier options. The crab legs are fresh and the royal reds delicious. They have a small patio overlooking the marina. Service was quick too.
(5)L P.
Ate lunch there last week. Good service, large portions for the lunch menu. Great food!
(4)Jeff K.
(4)Brian M.
(4)Jeremy S.
Nice place to enjoy great company and always good times

Great oysters.and shrimp - highly recommend!!

(4)David J.
Went for lunch on first day in OB, gumbo was alright, oysters were smaller than expected, royal reds were great. But the shining star was the blacken redfish po'boy....it was a home run. The service was ok, our waitress was a little over whelmed, but she did an alright job.
(3)Debra P.
Excellent reds. Best meal we has this week. Great key lime pie too.
(5)Nathan M.
I've been eating at the steamer more than 10years, I've never had a bad experience. We always do some variation of a seafood platter and we always walk away fat-n-happy. Love me some Gulf Shores Steamer.
(5)Daniel B.
Corn chowder was just ok. Crabs were nice but nothing fantastic and the shrimp were extremely bland.
(2)Michele D.
Best ever. Cajun oysters, Asian grilled tuna, crab pieces...all delicious.
(5)Darren B.
(2)Taylor B.
Good food, service was good. Oysters were fantastic, gumbo was decent, and price was fairly decent for the type of food.
(4)Rena W.
Crab legs and royal reds were very good. Great place if u don't want another fried platter. It is located in a nice shopping complex where you can walk off you dinner and there was live music in courtyard.
(4)David S.
(4)Dan M.
(2)Kathi G.
The royal reds were outstanding. I have yet to find a non-mushy ear of corn. Great service.
(4)Heather S.
A family tradition! We've been going here for years and years and just love it. The royal reds cannot be beat. Their new location is in Orange Beach, but nothing about the quality of food or service has changed. Can't wait to head back in August!
(5)Elisabeth E.
This is a decent place to eat-the Royal Reds are truly delicious BUT they were so difficult to peel it almost ruined the experience. Te boiled shrimp tails were great. Don't get the blue cheese baked oysters- were almost too salty to eat. Service was mediocre.
(3)Jeff L.
(4)Addie D.
(1)Kristi N.
Delicious! 4 of us shared a steamed platter. Never had anything like this. Fun experience! Reasonably priced.
(4)Dustin W.
My gf and I only stoped by here for a couple of drinks and had the crab cakes for an appetizer it was fantastic. The owner and his wife were super friendly. I swear next time I'm ordering food.
(4)Nate H.
Great food, but expect to get messy! Visiting with the entire family the steamer has menu items for up to six people. Around $70 for a full platter of oysters, shrimp, and crab legs along with vegetables the steamer had myself and my entire family licking our hands! A great find on our first trip to the area.
(5)Scott A.
A+ .....royal reds and crab legs were great
(4)Joe B.
(1)Janlee A.

(2)Adam C.
I enjoyed a bucket of Royal Reds and WOW they were great. Hot and obviously fresh, plenty of flavor. Friendly people and we received prompt attention. The food arrived in a short time and drinks always stayed filled. I'll certainly return on future visits to the area.
(4)Kurt G.
(5)Benjamin O.

(2)Kelly M.
Decent pricing considering the area (a little overpriced being that it's a tourist are.) The shrimp was stemmed & seasoned to perfection & we had a great dinner!
(4)Nada B.
was here for vacation with 5 friends and sat outside by the harbor. The view was beautiful; however, after the sun went down we were covered with small, flea like bugs. The food and service were good. I had the crab stuffed fish and it was delicious. The portion sizes were generous. Other than the bugs, this place has great food and is a change from the typical fried seafood in the area.
(3)Megan M.
(4)James L.
(4)Darnell G.
We had a delicious steamed platter for 2. Everything was cooked perfect. We sat at the bar where the service was perfect! The manager came out and talked to us and learned that we come to eat there every time we are in town and he gave us the local discount which was very nice of him! We will be back.
(5)Stacie F.
My favorite meal while in Orange Beach. We got the steamer platter for two and it was excellent. Will definitely be back next time we visit the area.
(4)Lori H.
Try those.
(1)Mark C.
My wife and I ate here last summer. We got a stead mix bucket of seafood. We both thought that teh oysters tasted a littl odd but ate them anyway. Oh my gosh did we ever pay for it. We both got very sick...never again
(2)Tiffany W.
Did not have a great experience here. Nice building and waiter but I ordered the crab cake sandwich and kept biting into shell. Took three bites and each had shell. Couldn't eat it
(2)Jeremy S.
(5)Bill B.
(4)Joe M.
A Must try...had the steamer platter for 4...shrimp with crab oyster corn and potato. ....must like seafood...my daughter had the chicken breast and it was tasteless and dry...not recommended. ...service was good atmosphere was decent ...I will be back !!!!
(4)Michelle S.
This was my first time at the Steamer and definitely will go back next year. Our waitress was excellent. My favorite was the crawfish corn chowder, great flavor! My husband had the gumbo and we both preferred the chowder. I had royal reds and of course they were delicious too.
(5)Wendy N.
Great view of the Marina, relaxed atmosphere, good service and Good Food!!!! Opens at 11 on Sundays it seems cause we were this first in at 1110. Enjoy this good eatery.
(5)Lauren W.
(5)Kesha K.
When I am in the area I will visit again!
(4)Stephanie A.
The crab season they use is salt!! No taste of spices at all! Spent $100 and felt super cheated!! Only giving 2 stars cause our waitress was sweet!! Never again will we be back!!
(2)Darin G.
Great place to try Royal Red Shrimp. Friendly service as well. If you don't know how to eat the Royal Red Shrimp they will gladly show you! If you go in the off season make sure you call to see if they are open.
(4)Lauren W.
Wow.
