Really unique place to eat. The steaks are really good. They are not prime cuts, however they are surprisingly full of flavor. Try it, I don't think you will be disapointed.

Came here on a business trip a while back and this is the first place the locals took us out to lunch to. It has a very homey, hole-in-the-wall feel to it. And the servers treat you like you're family, so it's a warm environment and friendly atmosphere. The special for the day that we went was the Prime Rib and we loved it. Pretty tender and very good value for the price...I think it was somewhere around $10 or $11, so totally worth it. I definitely wanna come back multiple times to try the other specials and desserts. Kinda cool that there's an actual stockyard there, I took a bunch of pics...never knew that cattle/stock was auctioned off like that. Definitely not the best place for a larger group during the lunch rush because we had to wait a bit to get seated, and even then, we had to sit at 2 different tables...but it was still OH SO WORTH IT!

I had my bridal shower here. I had never heard of it before and some people said "oh you won't like it" but BOOM I loved it and they kept the food coming. Oh and they made the absolute best guacamole for me that day. . Another factor is that people kept coming up to the door thinking that they were opened. Well if that's not an indicator for you there I don't know what is lol b

This place is a Montgomery institution. It's unique, historic, and popular. Do not go there thinking you are going to get top notch steak and burgers, but they do a decent job compared to most lunch spots around Montgomery. It's a bit out of the way, but would you want a Stockyard in the middle of a city? I think not. Go early or late, as the place is very crowded at peak lunch time. This is a lunch spot only, no supper for you! Suggestions to the restaurant: Serve higher quality sides. Anyone can fry up French Fries. Why not serve "green" green beans, baked potatoes with the fixings, or corn on the cob?

I had lunch with some radio alumni from Montgomery two weeks ago. My wife took the day off of work so I treated her to lunch at the Stockyard Grill. She had a Cheeseburger and I had the 10oz Ribeye Steak with Onion Rings and a slice of Buttermilk Pie. Others we knew were eating there as well. You may have to wait a few minutes to be seated as they get busy for such a small venue. It's well worth the experience to have a steak cooked to your preference. I shall return.

Stopped in for lunch and being from the south, this place is just what the doctor ordered. I had the lunch special for the day and chose hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and collards. Strawberry cake for dessert. I was looking forward to trying the buttermilk pie but we where a little too late. I'll be back and try the double cheeseburger for sure as the ones I saw looked amazing. If it's anything like the hamburger steak I had it should be awesome. Everything I had here was fresh and delicious. Excellent service and friendly staff. Also it has a big lot for anyone pulling a trailer or large vehicles.

I work off of Folmar and this is one of the few restaurants we have in the area. Don't be scared of the dirt road, plastic table tops and sticky tables... The food is excellent. The steak (especially the prime rib) is the best I've had since Capitol City Grille in Atlanta. Service is great and friendly. Try the Dam Sandwich (hamburger meat AND 5oz ribeye burger for $9.99), Stockyard Salad, Double Hamburger (IT IS HUGE), steak sandwich and some of their lunch menu items are fab. As southern as southern food gets. Try not to 'to-go' the food though, I always get a messed up order somehow. And they'll charge you for additional A1 sauce packets and won't give you utensils for foods you can eat with hands like burgers... I don't understand that part...

You hear of a restaurant located within a cattle auction and is known for their burgers, your mind makes a leap from one to the other, and assumes that the restaurant's beef must be top notch because the cows are RIGHT THERE. This assumption skips the butchering process, of which I don't think Stockyard is at all equipped. Compounding the issue is Stockyard's identity, which is primarily that of a meat and three restaurant. The burgers get their own spot on the menu, but you get the feeling the focus is on the daily stuff like fried chicken, meatloaf, etc. Regardless, Stockyard and Hamburger King were two of the five finalists chosen for the "Alabama's Best Burger" contest back in 2011... a contest organized by the Alabama Cattlemen's Association, of which the Montgomery Stockyard is a member, but I'm sure it's just a coincidence - the vote was primarily accomplished by Facebook votes. Either way, I wanted to try that burger, if only because the burger scene in Montgomery leaves much to be desired. The tiny restaurant fills up quickly during their daily three hours of operation, so rather than wait ten minutes for a table, I walked up to the counter to make a to-go order. The nice girl taking my order tried to upsell me from my requested cheeseburger to their special sandwich, a sandwich that packs both a burger and a 5oz piece of steak between the same two buns. Let's pause for a moment to think about this. Sheer amount of beef aside, burgers started as a means of using the tough scraps that we didn't want to discard. To top that with a piece of steak is not only antithetical to the whole concept of a burger, but there's absolutely no way the combination could work due to the contrasting textures. Even the most tender steak in the world is still going to require a considerable amount of chew in comparison to the pillowy give of a well-packed hamburger. And I saw a picture of this burger on Facebook - it's not the most tender steak in the world. This sandwich seems like a product of someone who doesn't have a point of view besides "beef, and lots of it". Meat and three restaurants, especially those who deal with a working lunch, make it a priority to get your food to you as fast as humanly possible. Most of the hard work is done ahead of time anyway (don't ask me what kind of voodoo it takes to turn out a good piece of fried chicken under that kind of time crunch, though), and as someone who doesn't have all day to wait around, I appreciate that. Dispite this, I was surprised that the time it took me from order at the takeout counter to getting my burger was less than five minutes. In a completely packed restaurant. This was not a burger that was completely made to order. It tasted like it, too: the thick patty was seared well, and seasoned, but overcooked and dry. combined with the plain white bun and boring onion, lettuce, and tomato, it was a significant disappointment from what I had built up in my mind. Sure, I admit my expectations of Stockyard Grill were largely a product of my own doing, but when you eat out an average of six times a week, you burn through Montgomery's clear favorites pretty darn quickly. We want to believe that there's some hole in the walls that will reveal themselves if we take the time to do the work, especially in a town where so much Yelp activity ends up reviewing the same restaurants that already have the most reviews. Even if it wasn't a home run, Stockyard Grill is a pretty unique concept, and probably puts out a mean daily special (as a side, I had some mixed greens that were plenty good), but to expect the world from them is asking too much.

I work outside of Montgomery and when vendors stop by to take my coworkers and I to lunch, this is pretty much the only option and so I've been here a bunch of times in the last year. Like said in the other reviews the place is only open for lunch and gets packed QUICKLY. There will normally be a good wait unless you get there early. But even though there is a wait it moves pretty quickly even though there are plenty people in front of you. So quickly forget about any ambiance. The place is a meat and three in a stockyard. You'll see plenty of police officers and military there as there is a shooting range and a military installation nearby. Its usually a bit on the loud side as well. Considering it's in a stockyard you can imagine that the menu is full of beef. I haven't tried the beef, bu pretty much everytime I've been there I've had the steak (filet) sandwich. VERY filling, kind of hard to get your hand around, but it was pretty tasty. I've seen their fried chicken plate as well and it looked delicious. One of my coworkers gets that pretty much all of the time. They also have very good desserts. I'm pretty sure their buttermilk pie was amazing. All in all, it makes for a very good meal...a GREAT meal when its paid for by your host. LOL I enjoy it and would bring my family there if they were in the area during the day. I'm not sure how to rate it. It really is a 3.5 star place but I'll go with 4.

Catfish was on the daily menu today. It was delicious along with the heavenly buttermilk pie. Meat 3 sides and drink was $7.75

Traveling in from CLT and needed to find a bite for lunch. We followed previous recommendations a tried the Stockyard. We came away full and extremely satisfied. We had the steak sandwich which turned out to be the most tender, tasteful cut of meat I have had in a long time. The meat overflowed the simple bun, but why worry about the bun when you have a cut of meat so tasty! I am bookmarking this for any return trips to Montgomery.

MOOve over!!! No Bull...ok maybe a little...or A LOT! Depending on which day you are there. Where else can you go to buy a cow and lunch? "Yes I would like to order the heifer and the hamburger steak, please." I am not kidding this place is a real live cattle auction and restaurant. You can walk in the main doors and walk straight into the auction house or take a right into the restaurant. Unless you are in the cattle business or in the mood to purchase a ginormous pet you can milk, I would go to the right. The atmoshpere is great and the owner is friendly. You get a sense of community among cattlemen, buisness professinals, and even folk from New York City! ( I can't verfiy if anyone is actually from New York or not). The reasturant is a "meat and three" (you choose one meat and three sides for those not from the south). However, there are other choices from hamburgers, chicken, fried fish, and salads. The vegetables taste like your grandmother made them and the hamburger steak was honestly some of the most tender hamburger I have ever had (possibly because it came right out of the auction house and onto the grill). As an added bonus, the owner will cut steaks to purchase if you ask, and will cut them to your specifications. In addition, he advised that in mid-March they will be open Saturdays from 5-9 PM, specializing in prime rib. When it comes to good local, country cooking at an affordable price, this is the place. So saddle up, and get your angus over to the stockyard grill!
