I had heard about Filet & Vine as a hoppin' lunch spot. My visit was during the dinner service. You can select items from the hot bar (you point, they dip) or order from the menu. I ordered a Reuben since that is the measure of any good restaurant. My Reuben was tasty. As F&V also sells a wide variety of beverages and you can select from water, soda or beer. I will return to try more items from the menu.

Love to come here for lunch, its a meat and 2 sides kind of place, Chicken Marsala is heavenly, so is there sweet potato souffle. come here often kind of pricey. prices range from 10-13, but you get alot of food you wont leave here hungry!!

It really doesn't get any better than this for a local meat an veggies place. There is always a large selection of meats and sides.I have had the fried chicken, chicken marsala, kabobs, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, collard greens, and cabbage in my last two visits. I haven't tasted anything yet that was short of amazing. This place isn't far from where I work, so it makes a great lunch spot, but can be real busy from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. One unique feature of the place is their select cuts of meats, casseroles, wines, and beer you can purchase in the store. It seems like there is a large selection of it all.

If you are looking for some authentic southern eats, this is the place to go. It is a grocery and wine store as well but I didn't really do much shopping there. But I did do lots of eating. They have a soup and salad bar, sandwich stand, and a hot food bar. Amongst the hot food, you pick a meat from a selection of 6 (varies each day) and 2 sides from a selection of a dozen or so. Prices vary depending on the meat you pick. If you are looking for a vegetarian option, they offer a 3 or 4-side platter. Everything was Delicious! You have to try go! ------- EDIT: I would also like to note that they have an impressive beer collection!

I love this place. Their food is almost always good and very comfy. From their chicken to their pork chops, to the very tasty side items. The prices are a bit steep, but the portions more than make up for it. And I must say this. I love their pimento cheese and I can't stand pimento cheese! I go out of my way to stop in and buy a pint, then turn around and eat it all at home. When you go there, talk to Ken, their wine specialist. He has an awesome selection and can find something for any budget. What? You don't like wine? No problem, they have the best beer selection in town.

It's pretty much the boss. I have my alarm set to go off every Monday to have a business lunch here. Semi comparable to the "meat and 2" theme so prevalent in the South. Best times to stop by during lunch hours are close to 11 am and 1 pm. It gets super busy closer to noon, and parking is harder to find. Has the best selection of sides of any casual restaurant I know of. Meat selection varies day-to-day, and breakfast only on Saturday.

Great stop on our way from Pensacola to Charlotte that wasn't fast food. The hot bar looked amazing, but we wanted something lighter so got a turkey wrap and club sandwich instead. Both tasted fresh and good, although they definitely go heavy on the mayo. This place is not for anyone looking for a health food option. That said, the staff was friendly, service was prompt, and it was a convenient and easy stop for lunch during our drive - I would definitely recommend it.

I go every Saturday. Great biscuits during breakfast and the best cafeteria-style meat-and-three in town.

Excellent food at a great price. I paid $9 for a fried pork chop that was perfectly cooked, great mac n cheese, unforgettable greens and some cornbread. Just some tables thrown in a delicatessen, but who cares when you have great, honest food at a reasonable price! Recommend that you get your drink (alcoholic) from the coolers before you get your food from the line. Overall, this is southern food at its best!

Fabulous! Great southern food, huge selection of beers and wines both imported and local. Plenty of seating and average price $10 w/ drink for lunch. I was very impressed with the food and service. Thanks to all the Yelp fans for posting your reviews this place was definitely worth it.

A good solid 4 stars, bordering on 5. My husband & I found this place in route to Birmingham. Never would have considered stopping in this little town if it hadn't been so highly recommend. Totally unexpected! Parking was difficult. I recommend to turn down a side street a park a block or so away. There was a slight wait in line on a Friday @ 12:30, but enjoyed viewing the quality produce and exceptional cuts of meats while waiting. Gives you a sense of the food quality before you even get a glimpse of the tasty daily offerings. The daily meat selections included fried chicken or pork chops, some BBQ items, fried grouper, grilled salmon & a couple of others I've forgotten. Definitely something for everyone. Many typical southern sides as well, all that we had were yummy and much less fat content that is usually associated with this type of cuisine. The portions were more than generous. The wine section was another unexpected delight. Amazing selection & a very knowledgeable salesperson helped us select 3 wines we hadn't tried before. Prices were reasonable considering this is not exactly the big city. They have free wine tastings every Thursday. We will definitely rec mend this to our family & friends traveling along hwy 65. Hope to stop on a different day of the week on our next visit so that we can try some of their other dishes.

I was visiting on business from Chicago, and stumbled upon this place. The outside is an understatement of the culinary delights that lay inside. Combination deli, grocer, produce, and wine merchant, I was amazed by the selection of wines and other cold beverages (Jones Cola included). The lunch menu varies by day of the week. I was there on a Wednesday, and had the Chicken Fundido (which was fun indeed), broccoli and cheese, mac & cheese, and corn bread. The food was wonderful. A bus boy cleared my table at the perfect moment. Seating was a plenty despite the busy lunch crowd. Originally from the south, I had my hopes set high for some good southern cooking during my short visit from Chicago to Montgomery. This place is great! I'd love to go back and have the fried chicken or pork chops with some sweet tea.

We stopped in to this charming litle place for lunch. Part liquor store, part bucher, part grocer, part lunch counter--all good. We were with a friend that knew he staff and a lot of the customers by name so it had that quaint small town feel to it. The food was excellent and priced incredibly low based on what we're used to paying for lunch. I had the pork chop, an order of green beans and they fried up some okra as a special order, we just had to ask. Would highly recommend them all, especially the fried okra.

This is a wine shop with a few groceries like Derk's Butt Rub and a butcher's counter that looks pretty good. But I'm writing this review because of the Southern hot table food. If you want to eat something truly great, go with a friend and get different sides. My friend bought me dinner. I had crisp fried tilapia, macaroni and cheese, fried cabbage and peach cobbler. She had, and I can vouch for, the limas with fatback (my goodness), unskinned roasted potatoes partly mashed and gravy, pork steak and sweet potato casserole. The fish was crisp and a tiny bit on the thin side, the cabbage well carmelized in places and flavorful, and the mac and cheese was the very serious heavy kind. The peach cobbler was also good, gooey, etc. The lima's were sublima. The sweet potato casserole was the kind of thing that makes you smile when you taste it. My friend actually tasted it and said, "That'll make you slap your mama," and it really is something. She also recommends the squash casserole which sadly was not there. We had cornbread: there's a choice of roll. If you are a fan of Southern cafeteria style food, this is really great. All that food wasn't startlingly cheap ($22 for two with sodas) but the big variety of sides, (and you can just buy a plate of them) also including stewed tomatoes, broccoli rice casserole, greens, etc. was worth gawking at. We both felt like we had eaten Thanksgiving. Which we were okay with. This place also sells cherry chocolate stout which it turns out doesn't taste much like beer. The lunch crowd is big so get there early or bring it back home/to the office.

a great little "meat & three" place. lots of cool beers and wine. the fried pork chop was a little dry, but the wild rice and broccoli side were amazing. my colleagues at the catfish and pork loin. highly recommend this little gem!

Cloverdale is the less conservative side of the city and definately still have the southern hospitality. I had been craving southern style green beans and creamed corn. Filet and Vine made them perfectly and then 10 more veggies sides I grew up with. My ribs were dry but still good. The charisma of this counter service may be a turn off considering $8-9 meat and two potatoes is pricey for Montgomery. However, the friendliness of our cashier and employees makes you fee at home, not to mention the great food. They have a butcher in the back, cheese and wine to bring home and a variety of beers and sodas. Stop by if you're around, it's an experience.

Fantastic selection of wine and imported beer with a cool southern cafeteria feel. It was a great social atmosphere with people from all parts of town and I really enjoyed that experience in and of itself. Really cool and eclectic little place. Went here for lunch with some co-workers and we all enjoyed it although we were a bit sketchy about it at first because when you walk in, it appears to be a grocery store/deli but let me assure you, that just adds to the cool factor of this little gem. I have never been to a place like this before. The line was long but moved quickly, the ordering system is cafeteria style and efficient. I had the Cuban sandwich based on a local's recommendation and it was awesome but it does take about 10-15 minutes where as most people eat off the hotline which is ready to serve. You can definitely do lunch here in an hour but give yourself some extra time to drool over their amazing alcohol selection. Don't forget to take a peak at their wine selection in the back of the store. This place has fantastic steaks if you are looking for some high quality meat for your bbq:)

Been in the south on the road for about a week now and this is probly the best place we've stopped to eat at. Highly recommended for the passer by. I got grilled tilapia with rice and grilled veggies. All three were good! Really good wine and beer selection as well

I love the South for veggie sides. But I've learned after 2 years in AL that veggie sides can mean most anything--including mac & cheese or greens cooked with ham. But at Filet and Vine--which David and I stumbled across while checking out the Old Cloverdale neighborhood of Montgomery--the folks behind the counter know which sides really are veggie. I loved the creamed corn. The tomatoes and okra and the mixed veggies were really good too. This place is great. You can get salad or shop for vino. It would be a good place to go if you were planning to see a movie at the Capri. Check it out.

If you want food that is cooked with care and not some slopped together mess, go to Filet and Vine. Even though you have to go through a line to get your food, it is some of the best in town! Derk wants to serve the best, and cuts no corners in preparing his food. Fish, chicken, pork, fresh salads, best soups in town. If you are there for beer or wine, they have absolutely the best selection in the city as well as the best prices on wine. Stop by for a treat, you will be back!

I live in the Garden District and this is just a few blocks over. Aside from being my 'goto' place when I can't think of anything else, it also has the best fried chicken I've ever had... sorry mom. It can get pricey when you use the salad bar too but it's worth every penny. Their meat selection is great too! I get my filet mignon with Dirk's Dirt on it... soooo good! You can also buy it in their grocery area too -for those times you can't make it in. The staff has always been personable and a pleasure to see. The wine area is well stocked -not to mention the beer selection. Great store, great place to get food, great neighborhood location!!

The review and 5 stars is based on the beer selection only as I did not experience the food at this establishment. As someone who is a big fan of craft beer I really enjoyed the local selection available here as well as what the store offered from other areas. I am not from the area and have never had a selection of beer from the Alabama and surrounding regions, so being here was like being a kid in some kind of a store. One of the gentlemen working here was clearly as much of a fan as I am and was very helpful in directing me towards what he recommended from local craft brews. If you are in the area and looking for a great beer selection and have an appreciation for the craft beer scene, this is a must stop for you.

Stopped here on our way to Atlanta. It's a deli & buffet. The feel is much like a world market/cafe but with more local fare & southern cooking. We ordered the fried chicken & country fried steak. The country fried steak was the leanest & tenderest I've ever had. The fried chicken was crispy yet moist. Everything was seasoned perfectly. The sweet potato casserole is amazing. The service is quick & efficient. Great lunch place. Fresh, fast & delicious.

I have lived in Montgomery for over 30 years and this was my first time going here. My wife and I decided to try it because of the positive reviews on Yelp. We were not impressed. They call themselves a buffet and deli, but they should just label it curb market/deli. Very crowded at lunch time, the food was decent, but overpriced. If you are looking to try a well priced buffet, I recommend Golden Corral. And if you are looking to try a well priced deli, Jason's Deli is my pick. And if "soul food" is on your list to try, Jim N' Nick's, even though it is a bbq restaurant, offers the very best mac & cheese and collard greens in town.

Absolute smash hit, delicious. Down home, real deal. Everything is delicious. It was sooo good, we had lunch there, and then got some more food to go to snack on later. Simply mouthwatering. And the service was great too, real friendly here. Terrific beer and wine selection. If you don't like this place, there is something wrong with you.

I stopped in here for lunch on the long and boring drive between New Orleans and Atlanta. With four and a half stars on Yelp, I figured this would be a slam dunk. Filet and Vine is actually a mini-mart / convenience store with a hot bar. There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but the food was definitely stick-to-yer-ribs, doused-in-butter-and-covered-in-cheese, down home cookin'. If you're not used to that kind of food or if you're looking for lighter fare, this is probably not the place for you. I had a pulled pork sandwich and wasn't very impressed. My partner had some mac and cheese, fried chicken, and collards and said it was alright. Other customers were piling their plates high and pigging out. I just... didn't really get it. I'll stop somewhere else on my next trip through central Alabama.

Wonderful customer service. Our group unknowingly came in a minute til closing and some of us got some awesome freebies with our alcohol purchases. At no point were we rushed out and in fact the owner was attentive to what we were looking for and dug around in the back for us. We returned the next day for the food line and the gumbo is amazing.

I rate four stars because of the uniqueness of what they offer. They have a large selection of beers you can buy and then drink on the premises. Then ton can follow it up with very friendly homes style southern cooking. In my opinion the food and beer selection are 3 stars each. But the fact you can consume both in the same location made me struggle between a 4 and 5 star choice. I can't say how many times I was at a great brewery wishing I could eat some good dessert or at a restaurant wishing for a good IPA. Well now you can do both. Oh, I recommend the peach cobbler for dessert.

Needed to satisfy my craving for some Soooouuulll Fooood for lunch, so swung through here. Located in what looks to be an old drug/convenience store, the place is certainly unassuming. The hot bar was chock full of delicious looking tidbits. I decided to go with the fried chicken, and double the sides. A typical plate comes with one entree, two sides, and a bread (either cornbread or dinner roll). For my sides, I went with turnip greens (smokey and delectible), black eyed peas (with a HUGE chunk of smokey in them), mac 'n' cheese (good, but not great), and sweet potato caserole (the perfect dessert). That plus a drink came to just over $15. The portions were generous and the food delicious. I would definitely come back to this local joint.

Filet and Vine ( or Dirk's as it is know by locals) is a lovely experience. They have a plethora of wine and beer options - which is great if you are looking for a special bottle and not just a boring Sutter Home or Bud Light- although they have those, too. Their hot bar is amazing. It has tons of Southern classic options (fried chicken, green bean casserole, Mac & cheese, sweet potatoes casserole, collard greens, cornbread..etc). Don't let the hot food distract you, be sure to try the cold options too. Delicious salads, salsa, and pimento cheeses. I love this local, neighborhood staple. Just make sure you wear your comfy, stretchy pants because the food is tasty and you won't want to leave anything on your plate- especially not the cornbread or sweet potatoes casserole #YUM.

We were here at an off hour but it was still pretty busy. The counter ordering was fast and the food was good but not great. It came to $20 for the two of us which seemed a little pricey for what we got. The portions were good, a pretty large piece of fried chicken and two sides and bread. Between the two of us, we got sweet potatoes (good), Mac and cheese (not great), mashed potatoes (ok but a little bland), new potatoes (good, better than the mashed potatoes and are actually seasoned but I don't think I could eat a whole order), and cornbread (pretty dry). The location was fine and convenient, not too far from the capitol where we were heading. Overall this was not a bad place to go especially for a fast meal in a safe location near the capitol, but nothing was outstanding.

This is the best place to get Deep South goodness while getting that Southern hospitality that most people have grown to love. I love coming here for the extensive wine and beer selections. There are wines and beers from all over the world, and the prices are not expensive. For Christmas, I was able to purchase an aged red wine on sale for $25. Not only does this place sells wine and beer, but customers can find great seasonings and condiments to compliment meats and veggies. if possible, you must purchase the Dirk's seasoning. Although it is meat seasoning, I used it on my veggies. Being a Southern girl who loves to eat, I can't resist the hot bar. The customer stands in a line and order food cafeteria style. Each time I've visited, there were all men in the back cooking and serving. Trust me ladies, there is nothing like a man who can cook :-) The first case has a variety of meats. My dining companion ordered fried fish, and I ordered the four veggie plate. I had the pleasure of experiencing the mac and cheese, cabbage, corn, and broccoli and cheese. The mac and cheese was extremely cheesy and delicious. I would return for the mac and cheese alone. The cabbage was seasoned perfectly, but I am used to cabbage being steamed longer. Although it wasn't cooked hot I would've like, the cabbage tasted great. The corn was wonderful. The corn bring back memories of childhood. It tasted skillet fried with flour. The broccoli and cheese was another hit. The broccoli was steamed perfectly, and the cheese sauce was awesome. Today, I opted out of dessert, but I have had the apple cobbler, and it is some of the best. This is the place that I must eat at when I come back to Alabama. It has the perfect blend of what the South is known for-- great food, great beer and wine, and great customer service.

If you're unlucky enough to be in Montgomery, stop by Derk's Filet & Vine to brighten your day. Best "Meat & 3" (or 2, in this case) in town! They also have an excellent selection of wine, beer and other specialty/gourmet groceries.

Lawanda S.
I paid around $16 for lunch mostly because of the salmon even though it was on a plate which was good but it wasn't a big piece and the sides wasn't in big portions. That was the most expensive lunch I've ever had. If it's going to be that expensive, you should've included a drink and a dessert and and if you going to pay that much for lunch, then you should have the salmon a little bigger piece and make little bigger side portions. Also they need a bigger building for their business to make more space so everyone won't look overcrowded together in it.

WOW. This place really has it right! A little pricey but well worth it! You get a huge portion of home cooked food and there's a wide selection. This is definitely the number one place I would recommend to anyone visiting Montgomery.

Friendly staff. Welcoming feel. Amazing food. Dirk's is a fantastic lunch spot. They prepare everything fresh using amazing in house recipes. They have a fantastic beer and wine selection and an in house deli. I have spent many afternoons enjoying their food and will continue to frequent this amazing establishment.

Consistently yummy hot bar at lunch time. Come hungry because the lunch is large. Sweet potato casserole is delicious. Perfectly fried chicken. Delicious broccoli casserole and squash casserole. I am sure it is not low cal, but it is reliably delightful sin. While there you can pick up a nice bottle of beer or wine and do a little grocery shopping including making a selection from a first class butcher counter. The kebabs with the house marinade make entertaining a breeze!

I'm having a tough time deciding between giving this place a 3 or 4 star rating. Went through their buffet line for the first time and got a plate of fried chicken breast, mac and cheese, and sweet potato casserole with cornbread. The chicken was pretty dry and difficult to eat, and the mac and cheese was cold but had a good taste to it. I think the sweet potato casserole was my favorite part and was very good. I am very impressed with their beer and wine selection, however. Quite a bit of a variety and I like the overall vibe of the place, but maybe I hit the buffet on a bad day or got the wrong thing? I'll have to go again and rate accordingly. One thing I did like was how fast the buffet line was moving. I'll give the place a 4 for now. They also offer a military discount which is always nice!

Southern cooking at its finest!!!! I'm a born again southerner and I love catching lunch here!! I was super surprised to see the massive wine and beer selection, quite the contradiction to what you think you'd have at a place like this! A gem in Montgomery, go and eat here!!! You'll leave full and already planning your next visit!

Filet and Vine is perhaps the preeminent meat and three in Montgomery. The pulled pork I got was better than I was expecting, though I was more wowed by the broccoli casserole, squash casserole, and greens. What REALLY sets Filet and Vine apart, though, is the alcohol. They were doing it even before Alabama's backwards laws were repealed, but today they are far and away the best place in Montgomery when it comes to beer selection. It comes at a price, however, and that price is pretty high - most bombers are close to surpassing the $10 mark, and after coming from Hop City in B'ham, there's a little bit of sticker shock. Hell, even a loose can of Good People Snake Handler was $4. But where else are you going to go?

Ok, so it is like lunch counter meets hot bar meets market??? I don't know, but it works. Food is so yummy and the folks are sweet. All of the veggies were good. The guys liked the pork steak, and the salmon was rice and yummy too. It is super casual and pleasant! Enjoy y'all!!!

This place is pretty awesome! Like everyone else says, the hot bar food and alcohol selection are money! I've been here twice so far and plan to come several more times while I'm in Montgomery. I've gone for the hot bar twice now and really liked the bbq pork chops and the cabbage and the mashed potatoes and their chicken...let's just say all the hot bar food was on point. I did have an issue with the first pork chop that I got. It was hard as a rock so I went back to exchange it for a fresher one. What the guy behind the counter did completely dumbfounded me though. He took my plate back over the hot bar (you're really not supposed to take food back once it's made its way over) and then asked his boss to make sure he could give me another one...and then takes mine which I partially cut into and put it back into the hot bar with the other pork chops. =O What he should've done was offer me another pork chop, put it on another plate and tell me to keep my plate with me. Anyway, servers weren't all that smart on foodserving regulation or customer service. I've come to the store twice at 6pm just before they shut down the hot bar at 6:30pm and even though they're getting ready to close, it doesn't mean their customer service needs to shut down too. They took way too long making sandwiches for my friends even though we were the only customers left in the store....but what they made apparently tasted really good. For the price of the sandwiches, I think it could use some more garnish or an extra side because I could probably eat like 4 of their wraps to get full. I also think that since they're about to throw out most of their food anyway, it'd be nice to spare some of that and give it to customers. I just hate seeing good food go to waste. Ok, I know this review seems really negative, but I swear the food here is really good. They offer 10% off for cops, fire, medics and military. They have wine tasting on Thursdays from 5-6:30pm and occasionally have beer tastings too! Because the food here is good, that weighs pretty heavily for a place that operates more as a market than a restaurant. But because I've found the service a bit subpar, I have to dock a star.

The good: Simply by standing in line, I found that people from all walks of life come here, and they all were excited to be here. The lunch selection, in spite of being cafeteria-style, was flavorful and diverse. The staff was helpful, friendly, and generous. They also worked in harmony; I could tell that crew was firing on all pistons for their customers. There was a wide selection of meats and cheeses you could also purchase and take home. The liquor store selection was wide and intriguing, prompting me to add to the list of "Beers to drink before I die." The bad: Strange layout of floor space. It's like the liquor store had empty space, so they filled that with tables and called it the restaurant. Depending where you sit, a lot of traffic can be walking and standing by your table. This was one of the best places to come for lunch while visiting Montgomery. I'd wholeheartedly recommend Filet & Vine to anyone who is hungry (or thirsty and over 21).

When you first walk in this place you are likely to be confused. You will probably wonder, "Did I walk into a beer/wine store, a grocery market or a restaurant?". Well good news, it's all three! You will see one section is the wine area, there is a small dining room area in another section and the largest section has the beer, market area and hot bar with tables for dining set up in the aisle of the market. First, for this area the beer and wine selection is pretty good. Second, the market carries different staples and a few specialty items. Third, the restaurant or hot bar full of down home southern cooking is delish!! If you are in the mood for a classic meat and three lunch and are not watching your calorie intake, this will become your go to place. There is a large selection of sides (southern style, so even though they are veggies they still aren't super healthy) and then usually about 4 different meats to choose from with a selection that changes regularly. To top it off you get a roll or corn bread. I suggest the corn bread. I will admit the meats can be hit or miss, which is why I gave only 4 stars, but the sides are always a hit. Sometimes I go in and just get a plate of sides. I especially love the character of this place and the mix of patrons. If you are in the mood for some good ole country cooking and are willing to spend part of your afternoon in a food coma, this is your spot!

After reading all the rave reviews about this place, we decided to try it out on our latest trip to Montgomery. Sorry to say what a disappointment..the food was cold and not a lot of flavor. We also got some broccoli and chicken salad to take in our lunches the next day..not much better. It was a $40 dollar waste. If your looking for a good wine and beer selection this is the place to go.

Great restaurant - had an amazing pork and coleslaw sandwich but had a hard time choosing because it all looked good. Will be back for sure.

Wow! What great southern cooking!!! I ordered smothered chicken that was moist & very flavorful. For my sides, I ordered green beans & mac & cheese. The green beans were excellent! They cooked them with ham & they tasted like good old southern green beans. The mac & cheese was definitely not your kraft version. This one was homemade & creamy! If you come here, lunch is pretty crowded so be prepared to wait in line. There is seating both inside & outside. Hope you enjoy!

I haven't eaten here, but this is the place to buy beer in Montgomery: excellent selection.

I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing and the customer service is great too. My favorite is the fried chicken, mac and cheese and veggies. But there are so many options for you. Please note that parking could be a little cumbersome but luckily I've been able to find a park with no problems. I've haven't dined in but that's an option if you desire. I always get my food to go. Also be prepared to spend about $10 for one meal (entree, two sides and a roll).

We were kind of confused by the layout of the place...part liquor store, part dining (and those parts are not clearly separated). The food was very good, although the fried chicken was a little dry. The mac and cheese and the greens were delicious! Good quality southern food and an interesting place to visit. The beer selection is excellent, too!

Really impressed with this small meat and three that is a close drive from our office. Don't know why NO ONE in my office mentioned this place during discussions on where to go when in Montgomery. I had the baked pork chop (so moist it looked like steak) with black eyed peas and potatoes. Everything was excellent! Not much space for a group, but adequate for 2 to 4 people. Parking is a serious hassle, so minus 1 star for that.

Derk has the best beer selection in town, hands down. He also rotates his brew, making sure not to leave old stuff on the shelf. No where else in town even attempts to ensure all their beer is sold at its peak. As for the butcher shop, I have yet to find a steak that comes close to what Filet and Vine offers. It may cost a bit more, but it is worth every penny. The hot bar and deli sandwiches are great, too. I still haven't made it in for a Saturday breakfast, but it is on my radar to try ASAP. Filet and Vine is my favorite stop in the 'Gump, offering awesome brews, the best wine selection in town, great steaks, a nice meat and three, and a gourmet grocery to boot.

Outstanding food if you love reasonable priced, excellent tasting food. We had the catfish. Not sure if it was breaded/fried, but it was light, juicy and not greasy. The sides of collard greens and black-eyed peas were spiced very well and delicious. I had a side of gumbo...also very good. Good place to go to get good tasting, healthy southern cuisine.

This place was really cool and super crowded. Apparently it's where all the cool kids go!! JK JK. But seriously, for it to be in an unexpected part of town it must be good to be SO crowded. I arrived at around 11:30 and had to circle the block to find a place and just happened upon someone leaving a prime spot. I wouldn't expect that to happen again though. As I walked in this crowded bustling place I noticed it was more like a market than what I had originally imagined. One side looks very much like a grocery store and the other holds the wonders of the steamy buffet and busy kitchen. I found the end of the line which was backed up nearly to the other side of the store. The line meanders along a selection of fresh produce, a small wine rack, a grab-n-go refrigerated unit, the soup and salad bar, and finally a meat case . I enjoyed looking at the prepackaged meals and fresh meats and cheeses as I waited in line. There is a small menu available of made-to-order sandwiches. All of which sound delicious but I already had my mind set on a meat and 2 plate. The buffet is fast paced with one guy asking you for your meat choice who then passes your plate along to the next guy who scoops your vegetables, then on to the bread guy, and finally arriving behind the cashier to await your payment. I would definitely advise looking up the assortment of meats and vegetables available for the day before you arrive so that you don't have to be the annoying person standing in line ogling the selection and taking up precious time to decide what looks better, because it all looks good. Based on the recommendations of the the previous commenters I had decided on a boneless fried chicken breast with black eyed peas, sweet potato casserole, and a jalapeno cornbread muffin. I was sure there was no way that I would like the sweet potato casserole because no one makes it like momma, but it came highly recommended so I tried it anyway. It was actually really good, no not as good as momma's simply because it was different but still worthy of praise. It was smooth and creamy and not stringy. The biggest difference in theirs is that they used cinnamon instead of the brown sugar topping that I am used to. The beans were perfectly cooked. The cornbread muffin was a great pairing for the beans. The fried chicken breast was huge! I could only eat half of it and took the other half home. I sat outside so that I wouldn't be bothered by the crowded dining area and noise level. Somedays it may be too hot to do that in Alabama and still eat the wholesome meal you will be receiving. FYI: They do accept credit cards but not Discover. Definitely, if you have the time and you are looking for a good Southern meal then this would be worth a stop. The reason it's on my Top 100 Dishes to Try list: meat and veggies from the hot buffet List: The BEST meat and veggie plate I've ever had.

Went here twice for lunch. Had a fried chick plate and a cold meat sandwich. Both were fantastic. The service each time was top notch. Quick in and out despite the line. WORTH the wait.

Every southern town should come with a restaurant like this. It's really more of a store, with some tables. Definitely more of a lunch place. Come ready to pig out. I got the half a rack of ribs and boy, did not regret it. Friendly folks. Delicious barbecue ribs, with amazing sides. The sweet potato dessert blew my mind.

I really enjoyed my meal here and wish that this place was in Atlanta. We almost turned around because we thought it would just be a deli/market when we arrived. I am glad that I spotted some of the meals that people were enjoying because it would have been a shame not to enjoy this place. It is a buffet, but the quality seemed much better than your average buffet. I had a fried pork chop (I never see this on menus) that tasted like it just came out of a fryer. The veggies were good as was the BBQ. Also the beer selection in the market place is just phenomenal. Will definitely be back if I am passing through Montgomery.

My favorite place for brunch or early dinner in Montgomery! Great southern cooking. Fast, consistent, and fantastic! Also, a great beer and wine selection along with a butchery too. Great place!

So happy to find this fantastic little spot! Extensive wine selection, best beer selection I've seen in the Montgomery area, little grocer area, and then a hot food section. They have different specials every day and several sandwiches that are served every day. You tell them at the counter what you want and give them your name, you then walk down to the cashier and pay. Take a seat and they will say your name when your food is ready. I had the Dante BBQ Sandwich with a side of sweet potato casserole - amazing! With a fountain soda, the price came in just under $10 and it was amazing. They also have breakfast on Saturday mornings until 10 AM. Highly recommend!

So wanted to try something new and this place had good reviews so why not! It's inside of a pseudo grocery/wine store which is neat but that leads to limited seating if you come in with a rather large group ( like me). You could order sandwhiches or they had a buffet line with southern food on it. Buffet didn't look anything special to me so I decided on a sandwhich. My husband got their BBQ sandwhich and I got the special of the day which was a patty melt. We both had to pay and extra $2 each for french fries. After waiting for about 15 minutes my husband got his sandwhich and mine was no where to be found. We were both pretty hungry so I let him eat and just kept on waiting for another 15 minutes to get my food. Paying the extra money for fries was not worth it because they only give you about 20 fries on your plate which is sad, and the sandwhiches were small so we were already thinking of what fast food place we were going to after. Both of our food was ok but it gave us a bit of a stomach ache, which was probably due to the grease. Had high hopes but will not go back again.

I heard of this place over the radio. I asked my co-workers if they have been to this place. All of them told me great things about this restaurant. They warned me if I decided to check them out I have to go there with an empty stomach. They weren't kidding, the food portion in here is huge. I ordered the fried chicken w/ mashed potatoes, collard greens, corn on the cob and corn bread. Believe it or not, I ate it all. The place is like a market. You can shop here for groceries and they have a wine selection area.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It wasn't too busy, but I assume that's because there was a big basketball game on TV (Alabama & Kentucky). I ordered the Triple Threat and had it toasted and my hubs had the Pulled Pork sandwich. I always make the mistake of not ordering what he does because he always seems to out-do me. It was an excellent meal and the sweet tea rocks. We had fun meandering around the establishment and then popping into the wine shop. Heather, the wine shop clerk, was so very personable and fun to chat with. We are excited to go back for the wine tastings on Thursday nights!

I really like the ambience of this little neighborhood market, and the food is actually very good! I had the ribs and they were fantastic, as were the veggies. This will be a regular stop for me when in Montgomery!

Great for a quick fix of great food. Unique inside and out. In a quaint part of montgomery that looks like the surroundings were recently built up to upscale the area (of cloverdale). Getting a meal is simple and quick and always good. Lots of choices but each one is carefully cooked. Excellent beer selection in the store as well.

Scroll down. Now scroll up. See all those red '5 star' reviews? Yeah. Just eat here. You won't leave hungry. Good, friendly people that have a passion for what they are doing and know how to do it right. If you don't like the food at Filet & Vine you don't know what good is. Too crowded? Think about it: A crowd is usually a good indicator of how good a place is. The line moves quickly. By the time you get back in your car and drive somewhere else that isn't as good you could be seated and eating at Filet & Vine. Too expensive? Quality ingredients come at a premium and Filet & Vine is a business after all. They must make money to continue to purchase the high quality ingredients that make their food so good not only to stay in business. If you can't afford to spend $10 for some of the best food around why are you going out to eat in the first place? Looking for beer and wine? I'd bet a shiny quarter they have it in stock. If not, ask an employee for a recommendation. They know what's up. Grilling out? You can get everything you need for a successful backyard grill session at Filet & Vine. They have a wonderful selection of fresh meat, frozen sides, sauces, and beverages. Pro-tip: The sweet potato casserole is better than your grandmother's.

Totally mislead. Food looked ok, but very limited seating. Took a look around the grocery section, and found several items in Kirkland Signature packaging. Sorry, but I'd rather just pick it up at Costco myself & skip the markup. Decent beer selection, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

This review is solely for the the breakfast buffet. Not sure how much it was, but it was reasonable for what you get. I had the scrambled eggs with cheese, nice thick cut bacon, hash browns, biscuit and sausage gravy( with actual chunks of sausage chopped up and sprinkled on top). They had grits an French toast along with lots of othe choices too. I think quality always suffers a little when you have a buffett, but overall though it was a good breakfast. I would definitely come back.

(5)Jason M.
(5)Melissa T.
(5)Andrew C.
(4)Matt A.
(5)Ariana D.
(4)Adam C.
I go every Saturday. Great biscuits during breakfast and the best cafeteria-style meat-and-three in town.
(5)Spiro T.
(3)Ray Q.
Fabulous! Great southern food, huge selection of beers and wines both imported and local. Plenty of seating and average price $10 w/ drink for lunch. I was very impressed with the food and service. Thanks to all the Yelp fans for posting your reviews this place was definitely worth it.
(4)Adrienne G.

Huge craft beer selection and great southern food. Mmmm
(4)Kevin E.
Between the fantastic beer selection, the friendly (& hilarious) owner, & the solidly delicious food, I could not imagine eating anywhere else while passing thru Montgomery.
(5)Asher T.
i haven't been there in a while but i love going there on Wednesday to get their Chicken Marsala
(4)Jesseca C.
Hot bar to die for, especially bbq pork steak, squash casserole, sweet potato casserole, and greens. Fried okra almost as good as mawmaw's.
(5)Nicole W.
(5)Scott M.
Always good, and always a great selection.
(5)Kiko O.
Pure awesomeness. Had probably the best sandwich of my life there.
(5)Todd S.
Great food especially when you need a break from crappy chain restaurants! I had a Pork sandwhich special that was amazing
(4)Raven B.
(4)Amanda G.
Yum! Great 'meat and two'. Gets very crowded during lunch, and parking isn't great - but it's worth it.
(5)Yebin Z.
Stop there for lunch during a trip. Good sandwich and friendly service.
(4)Cindy K.
(4)Thomas R.
They have an amazing best beer selection in the store, and the food they serve is delicious!
(5)jennifer c.
a great little "meat & three" place. lots of cool beers and wine. the fried pork chop was a little dry, but the wild rice and broccoli side were amazing. my colleagues at the catfish and pork loin. highly recommend this little gem!
(4)Mona B.
(4)Bridget B.
(4)Josh M.
Been in the south on the road for about a week now and this is probly the best place we've stopped to eat at. Highly recommended for the passer by. I got grilled tilapia with rice and grilled veggies. All three were good! Really good wine and beer selection as well
(5)J M.
(5)Jim O.
(5)Jim N.
(5)Dave H.
(5)Cameron R.
(5)T. W.
(2)Matt C.
(5)Rachel P.
(3)Michael H.
(5)Joshua A.
(4)Jason B.
(5)Kyleah J.

Friendly and helpful staff. Classic of the garden district. Delicious eats, but could use more vegetarian/ healthy options in this modern era. Loved that fish tank.

Just got in from Miami and found this restaurant on yelp and glad to say the reviews were right on! The food was delicious and the GREEN BEANS!! are the best I've had in forever. Sweet potato casserole was amazing. Glad I stopped here.

If you're unlucky enough to be in Montgomery, stop by Derk's Filet & Vine to brighten your day. Best "Meat & 3" (or 2, in this case) in town! They also have an excellent selection of wine, beer and other specialty/gourmet groceries.
(5)Lawanda S.

What's not to love Catering at its finest When I come to Montgomery I got to come here at least once
(5)Emily Y.
WOW. This place really has it right! A little pricey but well worth it! You get a huge portion of home cooked food and there's a wide selection. This is definitely the number one place I would recommend to anyone visiting Montgomery.
(5)Denver M.
(5)Barbara W.
(5)Maggie B.
Can't say enough good about this place. Wonderful home cooked local food and wine store with quality selections and knowledgeable staff.
(5)Toby F.
Great meat and three place. Excellent beer and wine selection in the grocery as well.

I'm from the west coast so I have never experienced food like this before and it is truly AMAZING! We take all our family and friends when they come to town.

(4)Renee K.
Absolutely enjoyed the veggies, ribs and chicken. We will visit on our next trip to town
(4)Jason K.
(5)Chris L.
Fantastic selection of craft brews. This is reason enough for me to come back time and time again.
(5)Brad S.
(4)Anna B.
(5)Sam L.

This place was yummy! T- bone steak very tasty, fried chicken and pastrami sandwich. All hit the spot!

(4)B A.
(2)Anna G.
Filet and Vine is a great spot to grab lunch. They give you so much food and their dessert is delicious. This is one of my favorite meat and 3 places around. You will definitely leave here full and satisfied!
(4)Andrea L.
Great restaurant - had an amazing pork and coleslaw sandwich but had a hard time choosing because it all looked good. Will be back for sure.
(4)Quoc-Nam N.
(5)Seth R.
I haven't eaten here, but this is the place to buy beer in Montgomery: excellent selection.
(4)Tabitha C.
(5)Tiffany W.
(4)Michael P.
(4)Crystal T.
(5)Ed A.

(5)Craig G.
Went here twice for lunch. Had a fried chick plate and a cold meat sandwich. Both were fantastic. The service each time was top notch. Quick in and out despite the line. WORTH the wait.
(5)April H.
Sweet potato casserole, I want you in my belly right now.
(5)Morgan L.
Good comfort food. Good variety... Sandwiches, salads, meat-and-three, etc. Excellent beer and wine selection in the retail shop.
(4)Austin G.
Food is subpar. Service is ok, but not what they were a couple of years ago.
(2)Lin G.
(5)Ken B.
(5)Luke W.
My favorite place for brunch or early dinner in Montgomery! Great southern cooking. Fast, consistent, and fantastic! Also, a great beer and wine selection along with a butchery too. Great place!
(5)Ann L.
(5)Steph G.
(2)Sean F.
Great southern food! Quick and easy with lots of seating. A fun venue that i will hit every trip to Montgomery!
(5)Kisente F.
(4)Paige C.
(5)Keith H.
I really like the ambience of this little neighborhood market, and the food is actually very good! I had the ribs and they were fantastic, as were the veggies. This will be a regular stop for me when in Montgomery!
(4)Jake H.
(4)Randall F.
(5)Caleb M.
(1)Darren R.
