Yak the Kathmandu Kitchen came highly recommended by my doctor who grew up in India. It is in the Food Champs shopping strip by McConnell Auto and behind Checkers. They serve a buffet at lunch or you can order off the menu. Friendly staff and we are usually seated pretty quickly. That day they served palek paneer (paneer cheese cubes in creamed spinach), aaloo mattar, dal (lentils), vegetable korma, naan, cabbage stir fry, chicken curry (on another visit, they had goat curry), crispy vegetable pakoras, chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala, steamed rice & vegetable biryani. I started with cucumber slices and mixed the mint & tamarind sauces for dipping. Then a plate of everything I wanted and watermelon for dessert. Gulab Jamun is a traditional Indian dessert - spongy milky balls soaked in rose scented syrup (not my favorite). Since then, I've introduced 4 people from my downtown office to the Yak and they loved it. So now we go to the Yak once or twice a month; more frequent if they were closer to our office. Thank you for the tip, Dr Gupta!

We absolutely loved the food! I don't like spicy, but chicken tikka masala with rice and garlic bread was soooo delicious!! The portions are good size too!

This place is delicious. I preferred the Makhani chicken and it met my expectations. That with the garlic naan was a explosion of flavors. Im definitely coming back.
The buffet is awesome. Food is always fresh and hot. Yak has become one of my favorite restaurants in Mobile. Don't let the location fool you. The only negative is that I wish they served straws with their drinks. I'd prefer drinking out of a straw than sipping on the glass. Small issue that won't keep me away. Check out Yak

Great staff and food!! Their biriyani is great and butter fish is amazing!! Yum! Polite staff but may need to shorten cooking time. It takes about 30mins for things to get to the table...

The food is excellent. We had chicken momos, paneer cheese with this delicious tomato cream sauce, & garlic naan. The service was great, everyone was very welcoming. It is BYOB, wish we had known beforehand!

Small restaurant but very authentic. Very nice server that was very willing to help us order. I had lamb vindaloo and my husband had shrimp vindaloo. I also ordered some kind of homemade cheese dish that had a tomato type curry base. It is hard to let people know how spicy you want your dish. You can go from mild to hot. Now I like spicy but I don't want a burn. My husband got medium and he said it was perfect. I told her between medium and hot but made the mistake of questioning myself later and said I was afraid it wouldn't be spicy enough. Soooo my fault it was a little too hot... Delicious and so flavorful but just a tad too hot. I brought leftovers home and enjoyed them the next day and it didn't seem so hot then. We also got a side of garlic naan. You can't go wrong there! It was really good. Next time I think I will ask for some hummus or something as I think that would be nice. Booths had a few tears in the seats and I don't think mine had any cushion at all so it seemed I was sitting low or my table was too high. I don't think they have updated the decor for years and it just needs a facelift. I am not dying to go back but we certainly may.

Came here with some friends. The wait time is a while but the food was worth it! They also give you large portions!

Same as before, I really needed my Indian food fix and this place delivered! Great flavor and fresh ingredients. If you don't like this place, go back to your chicken nuggets because you'll never understand what food should taste like. Loved it!

I've never been here before and wanted to try it out and I must say I love the atmosphere in here and the food was very good but I hate to say I might never ever visit this place ever again. The service doesn't even deserve a star when you talk to them they are very rude and don't help with you looking on the menu .they never come and check on you and have you waiting forever.not once were we helped till we saw someone pass by and we had to ask and the waitress was by the register playing video games. Really hate it when a place has great food but horrible service we were the only people in there btw.

The food scene for vegetarians in Mobile is spotty at best. Downtown hosts a not so great Thai place, a middle eastern joint which is closed at almost all times and the laughably over-priced spot of tea. The sole reprieve of the downtown Mobilian vegetarian is Serdas; however, the food offering there is mostly light. Yak, located in a run down strip mall a few miles off of the main drag is a true diamond in the rough for the hungry vegetarians of Mobile. The lunch buffet is killer. It features a great salad and several vegetarian entrees as well as a few additional options for the carnivorous diner. These cats served up some of the best saag paneer I've ever tasted. The gulab jamuns are of the hook. Yak is definatively the best place I've eaten in Mobile.

I went back and had the vegetable chow mein from the Nepalese menu. I had no idea what to expect, but it was sooo good! Imagine delicious Chinese food (chow mein) with amazing Indian flavors! I've had Indian Chinese food before, which I love, but it is hard to find. Now I am so glad to know that Nepalese food has similar flavors. I also got three meals out of one serving, so that was nice. It reheated well, too.

Vegetarian's Review: Though I have a hard time steering away from the Vegetable Korma and Saag Paneer, there's nothing that disappoints. There are many options for vegetarian dining, and none of them feel like an after thought on the menu. The lunch buffet is always worth the price, and if you go with a group, it's a fun place to order and share with the whole table.

We weren't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. The saag paneer was delicious, some of the best we have had. The dal Makhani was okay it wasn't like the makhani at other Indian restaurants. The garlic naan was homemade, it was crispy and fresh. However it wasn't very flavorful. The basmati rice was also fresh and delicious. Overall it was a great Sunday dinner and we will be going back to try their other items.

I feel like I could eat here everyday. They have great chicken tikki masala. Their saag is also great. The bullet naan is made with hot peppers and will clear your sinuses! This place is great if you need a vegetarian option. They have plenty of items on the menu that are vegetarian. The lunch buffet is also great. You can get a flavor for a bunch of different Indian/Nepali dishes. FYI they are closed on Mondays.

What a horrible restaurant. We went for the buffet and the food was so nasty. We were looking forward to going based on the reviews. Maybe the menu is different but the buffet.....save your money!

I cannot give them 6 stars but would. The food is wonderfully seasoned and there is a decent selection in the lunch buffet. The dinner menu is even better than lunch and at reasonable prices. It is easy to go to for lunch but can be busy on a weekend for dinner.

Every community should have a place this genuine and good. Nothing bad at all about the food, prices, or service. Our party ordered a spread of about eight dishes off the menu and none were disappointing whatsoever. We plan to go back as often as possible since we have nothing this good on the Mississippi coast. We even plan on going back this evening.

I love their food and the service was great! The greatest part about this place is that it is byob! This place is perfect for a group of friends hanging out for awhile and don't want to spend a lot on alcohol.

The food was average the service was slow. We called ahead as it was Christmas the lady on phone was curt to the point saying the restaurant will close sharp at 7pm we reached at 6:40 it took them more than 30 mins to serve us. Many ppl walked in after us and were not given the 7:00pm timeline. Our children were squabbling over one straw brought with drinks and the server/probably owner/manager shocked us by telling my 8 year old that she cannot tolerate this and they have to stop this nonsense. Not her exact words but on the same line. Omg I really wanted to get up and walk away but having driven for 9 hrs and kids demanding indian food neither had the strength to drive around and look for more restaurants nor the wish to eat anymore as it was our anniversary and having thrown a few walk outs of restaurants in my past 12 years of marriage. I wanted to let that day slide past but not the event nor the rudeness of that person who I tipped generously. I was very anguished to think that if she has such low tolerance level then probably she should not be in service industry a white collar desk job would do. Coming back to food the naan's were sad and the momos covers were tough around the edges ...children enjoyed their butter chicken but our 2 Nepalese thali had different deserts 3 sides were cold only one was warm. I had lost appetite to eat so packed it. Hubby like the lamb dish in thali.

My husband once worked with a man from India who turned him onto Indian food. For a few years, he always wanted to go eat Indian food, and I really didn't get what all the fuss was about. We weren't hitting the right places. The spice was always there (poor Kyle got the brunt of that at a UYE), but the flavors just didn't keep me coming back. After the first time we tried Yak, I completely understood the cravings. The food here is SOOO good! Particularly, the curry chicken and the tikka masala are addictive. I could go and eat just those two things, but of course, I have to grab a little naan, dipping sauce, veggies, rice and noodles. The buffet is perfect for someone who likes a variety, or someone who's trying Indian food for the first time. The pans are small, so they're always bringing out fresh dishes. If you know exactly what you want, no worries, they also have a menu you can order from. For $10 per person, this place is a real bargain. If you check in on Yelp or Facebook, you get a discount!

Had lunch buffet here. Can't go wrong with many of the entrees. Chicken curry was good along with the many vegetarian dishes. Naan could have been better and the rice pudding and the gulab jamun was a total miss. However, definitely will come back again considering the lack of Indian food in the south. You can't go wrong eating here

We were looking for something different in the area and were pleased with our meal. Everything was well-seasoned although my husband needed to add salt to his shrimp vindaloo. The mo:mo chicken was just perfect.

My favorite is the chicken tikka masala with a side of cheese naan! The people are so nice and friendly. I've had a great experience every single time I've been to Yak. The lunch buffet is a great way to try a few different items if you haven't eaten much Indian food and don't know where to start. Highly recommended!!

Much better food than Cuisine of India but not quite up to par compared to food I've had in India or even Atlanta. I had the lunch buffet today. The selection is a little small. Flavor was good but could be a little (or a lot) heavier on the spices. The meat was cooked properly. So...'ok' is about all I would put it at. Nothing wrong, just nothing particularly stood out as good.

Absolutely love this place. This is where we go every time we have friends come to town. We love the chili momo and samosa chat appetizers... so many incredible flavors! There are a lot of great things on the menu - both Indian and Nepalese. If you can't decide, check out the non-veg thali... It's a sampler platter of deliciousness.

Wonderful food! I loved talking with the owner, who is from Nepal. She told me about how she brought most of the decor back from Nepal and how she misses her country very much. She was so sweet. The food is incredible. Nepali food is wonderful because it is a fusion of Indian and Chinese food. This may not sound good to you but I promise you it is! We got these delicious plates that came with a little bit of everything. I had the chicken tikka masala, cauliflower masala, palak paneer (aka saag paneer), lentils and naan plate. It even came with dessert. All for $13! The decor is very peaceful and the food is incredibly authentic. Don't be afraid to ask for medium. However, ask for spicy at your own risk. I love spicy food and the spicy cauliflower masala definitely got to me. Their chai is wonderful and really helps round out the meal. This is a great place to take your family. I hope this business does wonderful because they were absolutely delicious!!!! You won't be disappointed.

Over the Yak. Did the buffet and was three star - hot but boring. No soup! The real downers were: Lack of service. Dirty, old bathroom. Same weird music a tad too loud. Three employees smoking on the front curb as I was leaving. It IS a different food option but the strip center is a bit on the rough side and the experience does not merit a return.

Tried a Nepali appetizer and main dish. Not as flavorful as typical Indian dishes, but still good, fresh, interesting.

Really like this place! Their extensive menu offers many flavorful dishes to choose from whether you are a Vegetarian or meat lover. The food is so flavorful! We have been impressed with their quality of food so far. We love getting take out and the potions are generally big enough to give us another meal. Can't wait to explore more of their tasty Nepali/ Indian offerings.

A friend took me there today at lunch for the first time. I didn't know what to expect so I followed his lead and had the buffet. IT WAS GREAT !!! The spices were just right, not so hot that it would take the hair off of your tongue. If you're as unfamiliar with Indian cuisine as I am then I recommend trying out the lunch buffet so as to get a good sampling of what they have to offer. The food was so good I had to go back for seconds. I plan on returning and am going to recommend the place to my friends.

We love this place. Delicious, fresh Indian and Nepali food, including lots of vegetarian options. There is a lunch buffet weekdays plus Saturdays. The buffet is currently $9, and worth every penny. As others have noted, no liquor license, but there is a grocery and a liquor store located within same strip mall and they are fine with you bringing your own bottle in to enjoy with your dinner.

Excellent food - fresh and flavorful! We both ordered 2 different lamb dishes and both were very pleased with our food. Garlic naan was very good also. And the food did not cause any intestinal you know what (sometimes ethnic food does that to you). 2 reasons why I am not rating this restaurant 5 yet - 1) cafeteria atmosphere and decor - yes, the masks are beautiful, however, all in all, this place lacks character and needs further work; this is definitely not a place for a cozy romantic dinner; 2) service was lacking - I do want my water refilled promptly, I do want a straw, and I do not want to wait for my bill forever. The two young ladies working lunch were very sweet and friendly but they do need to learn to pay better attention to what's going on in the dining room. Overall - Definitely a must try! Hope they continue making the wonderful food and keep working om the interior design.

I'm Indian and try to sample Indian food at least once each city I visit in the US. With a 4 star review I had high hopes but it was a let down, at least in terms of what I ordered. Gundruk - mustard greens salad was more like garlic salad, pungent and chewy. The steamed momos had the same filling as far as I can tell - garlic and garlic. The naan was more biscuit and the onion kulcha was like crispy fried pakoras. The malai kofta and chicken tikka masala tasted decent - no surprises. So - stick to very standard items and while ordering ask that they don't make your bread crispy.

What an awesome New Year welcome my wife and I got here. We walked in on New Year's day around 7.00 pm. We had a lady greeting us and pretty much told that we could sit anywhere. However, another guy ( Owner I suppose?) stepped in and said that the kitchen is closed. How about that for some wonderful team work? and the kitchen is closed 1/2 hour ahead of time? I had to use the rest room and to my shock I see the same guy taking food order from another table and Yes! they also probably just got in. Place looked like a junk yard anyways. They could rename this place to Yuck instead of Yak!

Loved this place! For starters, the lady who served us, I am guessing she runs the place(?) was super friendly and interacted with us more than any Indian person ever has at an Indian restaurant. Super super super friendly. She was very willing to make sure our needs were met, and she definitely wanted us to be happy. Great service! The prices were amazing. Cheaper than any Indian restaurant I have been to in Alabama. I mean samosa chaat for less than 4 bucks? We ordered some veg pakodas, for like $3.50. And the plate was HUGE. G got the shahi paneer, and I got the poori non-veg thali. His was less than 10 bucks (for paneer, I might add) and mine was 10.95. Tons of food, and it tasted good. The shahi paneer was great, and I really enjoyed the lamb curry that mine had. The poori was a lot thicker than I am used to, but it was still good. The only thing missing from the thali which would have made it extra awesome is raita. People of Mobile should be proud of this place. I definitely enjoyed it more than I remember enjoying Cuisine of India, but again that was like 10 years ago. For cheap (good) food, and great service, this place deserves a good 5 stars.

Best Indian I've had in a long time. They even had a number of true Lamb dishes. Garlic Naan with real garlic pieces. In town for 1 week, but I'll be back later in the week.

I came out for the lunch buffet. All of the food was warm and fresh and there were some dishes I had never tried before. I am a vegetarian (well...I try to be one) and over half of the options were veg. friendly. Curries ranged from sweet to savory, mild to spicy and a salad bar was available for skinny bitches who like to pretend their rabbits. For a dollar more my friend and I walked out with chai tea that was unusually spiced but very good. The true test, 1 hour later, no stomach ache. 4/5 stars because price was 10 dollars, well worth it, but not a place I will go casually.

Visited this place for lunch today and I was very impressed. I looked over the extensive menu and settled on the buffet because I have only eaten indian food one other time and I really didn't know what to oder. There were about 10 things on the buffet not including the small salad selection and the rice pudding for dessert. I sampled everything and was not disappointed by anything. Some of the dishes stood out more than others such as the Vegetable Korma and the chicken tandoori . I would love to give this place 5 stars but I could not justify doing so as I am in experienced with indian cuisine and have nothing to compare it to. The only other time I had Indian food was on a cruise ship and it wasn't that great. The decor and the bathroom could stand a little updating but it was in no way dirty , just old. All that being said, I would definitely recommend this place and I will be going back there soon! Food 5 out of 5 Service 5 out of 5 Cleanliness 4 out of 5

Overall experience was great. The buffet was $10 (weekend price) and there was a good variety of things, though overall it was a fairly small selection. All quite tasty. I really liked the aloo chili, the aloogobi, and the sage something (is was green and very spinach-y). My husband didn't realize the lamb curry was on the buffet line and ordered off the menu. It was a little more expensive but I did notice that the spice balance and strength was significantly better in his meal. He absolutely LOVED his lamb curry and proclaimed Kathmandu his favorite restaurant in Mobile. The service there was kind of non existent. We had never been there and it took a few minutes to get someone to our table, so we sat around wondering if we were allowed to just go get started on the buffet or where we could get a menu. Overall, 4 stars. We will definitely be coming back and I'll be getting dessert!

Wow. What a restaurant. I tried the momos and the vegetarian Nepali thali. The thali was a feast. The various vegetables, like saag, potatoes, and cauliflower, were expertly prepared. The spices were amazing. Everything was just right. The chai is good as well. The ambiance is nice. The service was friendly and observant. Being from out of town, I hope to return someday!

Honestly...I do not think I could ever get enough of Yak. Every single thing I have tried there I loved! The prices are so reasonable, and the amount of food you get is really overwhelming (you can always share!). The service is always polite and good! My favorite things there are garlic naan, chicken tikki masala, the chicken biryani, and the chicken chow mein! The decor is nice as well. All around I would have to say it is one of my favorite places in Mobile!

My wife and I dropped in here before a movie one night and were very pleased with our experience. I had been craving some Indian food for a while, and she had never tried any. The naan was fresh and delicious. I had the lamb vindaloo and loved every bite of it. We will definitely return many more times!

The Kathmandu Kitchen is a great addition to Mobile. I have visited with a large birthday party (glad we called and gave them notice), on our own, and for take-out. The food is quite good (on par with my favorite Boston restaurant), and the menu is substantial. The service is actually better than most downtown Mobile restaurants! They clearly are very appreciative of your business. As others have stated, they don't have a liquor license yet. This is not a big deal to me at all - bring you own or buy some next door. They provided wine glasses for us each time. The only thing I miss is Kashmiri Naan, but maybe they will add that to the menu someday. I hope they continue to do well and we will enjoy their food frequently!

Traveling for business or pleasure and willing to try something different? Look no further than here. Other reviewers have provided wonderfully accurate detailed descriptions of food and how good it is...all I can say is they're right. The service is wonderful, Ester is an informative self described Chatty Cathy that knows her way around the menus and will guide you where you want to go and you'll be glad you listened. Enjoy and keep this place on your short list.

YUM!! My husband and I had about zero experience with Indian/Nepali food going in. We felt like moving out of our comfort zone so we tried Yak. The woman who waited on us was so incredibly friendly. She helped us decide on things based on our tastes and what we were willing to try. OMG I now know I LOVE chicken tikka masala. No liquor license yet, but they are next door to a liquor store. She insisted on going to store and brought us wine glasses since they hadn't bought them yet. I am so happy we tried this place. I can't wait to go back.

I was taken here by my sister while on vacation visiting the area. She has raved about this place since she moved to the area and the restaraunt opened so naturally I was excited. She is the one who got me into Indian food. Unfortunately I was horribly disappointed. The decorum was average, nothing special. We ordered the appetizer with the crushed samosas topped with mint and tamarind chutney with a dash of yogurt. It was very good. My favorite is Korma so I got that with chicken. My husband got Tikka Masala. My Korma was super super thick, more like paste than a sauce. Mine was made with chicken thighs while my husbands was made with tiny cut up pieces of chicken which was weird. His Tikka was way better than my Korma which was flavorless and dark looking. Suffice it to say that he liked his better than I liked mine but we both agree our place back home is better by far. We also ordered the cheese naan which my husband loved but I did not. Service was atrocious. As others have reviewed and I agree, Indian food is meant to be made to order and it does take time to prepare. What I do not agree with is having one waitress on a busy night doing everything. We waited a long time for less than mediocre food. It was cheaper than most places but still not worth it for 10 bucks a dish. I will never come here again. Updated March 2015. My sister took us here again and we opted to try the Nepali food which was so delicious. I would give it a 3 just for the Nepali food.

The food is amazingly delicious! We ordered many different dishes and while I liked some more than others, everything was very good! My favorites included: the momo vegetables, the saag, the vegetable korma, and the okra. The naan was also very good. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and the atmosphere is not wonderful, but the food makes the visit with it! The Yak does not serve alcohol, but you can bring your own and the restaurant is conveniently located right next door to a liquor store.

I eat vegetarian twice a month in the lunar calender for religious reasons so I'm floored to have a restaurant where more of their dishes are vegetarian. I always order from the kitchen because its something about eating curry when its piping hot! This place is good. Don't let the facade make you think its another ethnic take-out joint. This place is the real deal and is up there as one of the better establishments in Mobile.
(4)
Bornie B.
This restaurant would never survive if the customers were indian/pak. Some of the most bland and tasteless, ethnic food imaginable. Nothing on the lunch buffet was edible. The owner was pleasant enough. I have enjoyed Indian/pak food whether served in the UK, thru-out the US, etc., and this might be the absolute worst.

Been here a couple times. This place is pretty delicious, from what I've tried. The dal makhani was awesome, and the dal fry was pretty good, but not as good as the makhani. Go makhani if you want lentils.

Sunita M.
My favorite Indian restaurant in Mobile. It's difficult to find an Indian food buffet where all of the dishes are amazing. The chicken tikka masala is good, as well as the chicken curry, veg pakora, veg korma, chili chicken/potatoes, saag paneer and hot buttery naan... All of it is excellent...
(5)
Tina M.
We have eaten here a handful of times and it is OK. The lunch buffet is smaller than Cuisine of India and the salad bar is sad (i like my veggies). The flavors are good but one time my husband ordered TOGO and the naan they gave us was completely saturated in grease. Like fried and refried. I don't even know if it was supposed to be naan. It looked like naan but completely unedible. That put a bad taste in my mouth (not literally because i didn't dare eat it) because who ever sent that out had zero pride in what they were cooking which made me wonder about the other food. That was one time though, so I will probably go back.

Went for the lunch buffet. It looks small but there are a pretty good amount of choices. The food was really good and so was the service. Water is included for everyone. Sodas are $1.50 with free refills. And the buffet was $8.95. They were pretty busy so some of the items needed to be refilled but they weren't empty. I wish they had the on the weekends too. I liked trying different things.

Really enjoyed this place. All the food was good and some was extremely good (chicken masala and tandoori). Will definitely be going back. We went for dinner (no buffet) and out of our group of 5, everybody enjoyed their meals and got plenty full. All the Thali were really good. The waiter constantly refilled our drinks and was nice. Prices were decent I thought for the amount of food we got. Only cons is the food took a while, but we came late and we ordered a good bit. Also the buffet did seem to not have many choices, but it did have the 3 dishes I want to go back for, so I definitely think I'll be making a visit for lunch. Overall great food, good prices, and worth a try.

Very wonderful food and service . Chicken Tika marsala was divine. Somosa and chicken momo apps great too! Being from a big city I have missed great ethnic food choices around Mobile-now Mobile has a great Indian/Nepalese choice!

I was excited to see Indian cuisine in town. There was only one other couple there besides me, so the atmosphere needs more people experimenting. The buffet was closed so I had to order off the menu; however what I got was hot and tasty. I will go back again!

Exceeded expectations. Don't let the old strip center building fool you, this place is clean and offers great authentic Indian dishes. I recommend dinner, but a buffet is available at lunch.

One of the best restaurants in Mobile hands down. I have eaten there 5 or 6 times and have had a wonderful experience every time. Both the Indian and Nepalese menus are excellent. I highly recomend the thailis. Excellent value as well. For those complaining about wait time, everything is made to order, not frozen in the back so yes you will have to wait while they prepare your food. This is not Applebees.

Fantastic food. I've only had Indian dishes so far, but I plan to try the Nepali stuff next time. The buffet is great, though the selection is smallish. All very very good. For dinner I recommend lamb rogan josh, bhindi masala (okra), chicken tikka masala. Service has been ok, not stellar for the three times I've been. No liquor license yet. Some wine would make the food sing.

This is a great place to eat. The price is great and the food is incredible. My 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter ate almost everything off of the buffet. I've never been so happy to see a crappy pizza place close down. Thank goodness Godfathers made the way for this!

This place is amazing, some unusual Nepalese dishes you won't find elsewhere, and really spectacular curries. Went with several friends and we ordered lots of curries and appetizers and shared everything. Sometimes I think that Indian restaurants use basically the same spice mixture for all their dishes, but not here. Everything we ate had really unique spice combinations. They don't have a liquor license (at least not yet), so its byob (extra points in my book), and in case you forget your libation, there is a package store just next door, though the selection there leaves much to be desired, so I'd recommend bringing your own. Definitely an asset to the Mobile dining scene.

Excellent! After eating great Indian cuisine from Washington DC to London -- this is up there with the best. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We just had a Saturday buffet here and it was delicious. I'm SO happy to find a place in Alabama with good Indian/Nepalese food. This was much better than the Indian place on Airport Blvd, better than Taste of India and India Palace in Pensacola. In fact, I think it was better than any of the three Indian restaurants in Birmingham. There was excellent chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, chicken curry, chicken biryani, a potato fry, pakoras, shrimp curry, dal, vegetable korma, saag paneer, cauliflower fry, and a noodle dish, plus some naan (that was really the only thing average as it was a little tough). For my husband and I after tax it was $21, which was not bad for a buffet with that many main entrees. I highly recommend!!

My husband and I recently moved to Mobile. We're from Atlanta, and we had an awesome Indian restaurant right around the corner, so we were a bit worried that we would not find good ethnic food here in Mobile. We were really pleased to find this place. So far, we've only ordered carry out, but we have not been disappointed. The chicken Tikka Masala is very good, and we enjoy the Sag Aloo as well. Tonight we also ordered the Mo:Mo (dumplings) which came with an incredible sauce. I would definitely recommend giving it a try!

India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

(5)Cindy A.
This place is delicious. I preferred the Makhani chicken and it met my expectations. That with the garlic naan was a explosion of flavors. Im definitely coming back.

My fiancé and I were visiting Mobile over the Labor Day weekend and dined at Yak each of the three nights of our visit, a treat! The food is so good that we used words like "exquisite" to describe the taste. We are both vegan and admittedly, foodies and this restaurant delivers excellent, perfectly spiced dishes that wow us. We love the vegetable momos, mulligatawny soup, veg thali, veg coconut korma and many other dishes...The servers are sweet and remembered us, too from our last visit a year ago on our first visit. LOVE this place! I wish it were closer to our home.
(5)T F.
(5)Tariq F.
Great staff and food!! Their biriyani is great and butter fish is amazing!! Yum! Polite staff but may need to shorten cooking time. It takes about 30mins for things to get to the table...
(4)Katie W.
The food is excellent. We had chicken momos, paneer cheese with this delicious tomato cream sauce, & garlic naan. The service was great, everyone was very welcoming. It is BYOB, wish we had known beforehand!
(5)Jan B.
(4)Kulirma B.
Came here with some friends. The wait time is a while but the food was worth it! They also give you large portions!
(4)Dugan W.
Same as before, I really needed my Indian food fix and this place delivered! Great flavor and fresh ingredients. If you don't like this place, go back to your chicken nuggets because you'll never understand what food should taste like. Loved it!
(5)Huong P.

(5)Michelle B.
(4)Renae B.
(5)G S.
(5)Dan G.
(5)Sissy L.
What a horrible restaurant. We went for the buffet and the food was so nasty. We were looking forward to going based on the reviews. Maybe the menu is different but the buffet.....save your money!
(1)Serena D.
I cannot give them 6 stars but would. The food is wonderfully seasoned and there is a decent selection in the lunch buffet. The dinner menu is even better than lunch and at reasonable prices. It is easy to go to for lunch but can be busy on a weekend for dinner.
(5)Ed S.
Love the food here and also the friendly vibe I get from the staff. Makes me want to visit Nepal!
(4)Tim M.
(5)Jon M.
I love their food and the service was great! The greatest part about this place is that it is byob! This place is perfect for a group of friends hanging out for awhile and don't want to spend a lot on alcohol.
(5)Ankiita Tandon B.
(1)Melinda S.
First time trying it here.. I'm asian and did not care for it. However, other people i went with liked its exotic taste.
(3)Karen T.
1st time eating Indian and it was YUM!! A lot of flavors and spices for decent price. I am full!
(5)Ashley H.
(5)Jimmy A.
Had lunch buffet here. Can't go wrong with many of the entrees. Chicken curry was good along with the many vegetarian dishes. Naan could have been better and the rice pudding and the gulab jamun was a total miss. However, definitely will come back again considering the lack of Indian food in the south. You can't go wrong eating here
(4)Tanja D.
We were looking for something different in the area and were pleased with our meal. Everything was well-seasoned although my husband needed to add salt to his shrimp vindaloo. The mo:mo chicken was just perfect.
(4)Jennifer E.
My favorite is the chicken tikka masala with a side of cheese naan! The people are so nice and friendly. I've had a great experience every single time I've been to Yak. The lunch buffet is a great way to try a few different items if you haven't eaten much Indian food and don't know where to start. Highly recommended!!
(5)Amy F.
(3)Brooks C.
(5)Mindy R.
(5)Sonya V.
(3)Chris H.
Tried a Nepali appetizer and main dish. Not as flavorful as typical Indian dishes, but still good, fresh, interesting.
(5)Kay P.
(5)Jay M.
(4)Chordeiles M.
(4)Angel E.
(4)Dna C.
(1)Ajay R.
(1)T R.
YUM! We had great service & amazing food. I had the chicken tiki masala and my friend had vindaloo chicken... Both were great plus we had naan bread with raita also good! If you love indian food this is the place to go!!!
(5)Scott G.
Had the dumplings very good, the gizzards .....interesting The sauces were excellent the flat rice was fun to try Excellent flavors healthy friendly but slow service
(4)Whitney B.
(5)K S.
Best Indian I've had in a long time. They even had a number of true Lamb dishes. Garlic Naan with real garlic pieces. In town for 1 week, but I'll be back later in the week.
(5)Michael P.
(4)Dawn D.
What a wonderful experience. The food was awesome. Even got to see a local celebrity while dining.
(5)Jaxx D.
Food 5 out of 5 Service 5 out of 5 Cleanliness 4 out of 5
(4)Rebecca W.
(4)Ryan B.
(5)Elizabeth R.
(5)Philip L.
My wife and I dropped in here before a movie one night and were very pleased with our experience. I had been craving some Indian food for a while, and she had never tried any. The naan was fresh and delicious. I had the lamb vindaloo and loved every bite of it. We will definitely return many more times!
(4)Jenn G.
(5)Anthony G.
(4)Kim M.
(5)Tasha R.
(1)Leigh Z.
(4)David P.
(4)Bornie B.
(1)K B.
Been here a couple times. This place is pretty delicious, from what I've tried. The dal makhani was awesome, and the dal fry was pretty good, but not as good as the makhani. Go makhani if you want lentils.
(4)Sunita M.
(5)Tina M.

This was my first time eating authentic Indian food. I don't recall what I ordered but it was really good. :-)

Wonderful experience--friendly service, very generous portions, fresh herbs added, delicious food and a reasonable price!
