Very good!! I first ate here when it first opened. I get takeout several times a year. It is always good. Best crab Rangoon in mobile. Uses the thin wrapper, my fave.

Purely mediocre. Not sure how anyone could rate this as a 5-star dining experience. The food was decent, I got the garlic chicken. The veggies were fresh and the chicken was tender, but the sauce was not so great. The iced tea was really good. Fair prices. The interior is pretty dingy, and the lady treated me like I was somewhat of an annoyance to come and eat lunch here. Had to stand and wait for a bit when I first walked in. She seated me close to the back of the restaurant so she barely had to walk from where she was using her laptop. Would not eat here again.

Casual & good prices with great food! This is the only place in Mobile we eat Chinese. The owner Ginny is very sweet. The good is always fresh and they cook with a lot of veggies. It's always good!

Went for lunch today. It was completely empty. You can order on-line here but they don't deliver. Got the General's chicken lunch combo (comes with fried rice and an egg roll) for $5.95 and crab rangoon (10) for $4.95. They said it would be 15 min but it was only 8. First off the crab rangoons were tiny! They were little bits of cream cheese folded up like a purse. Cute, right? Yeah, not for the money. I expected something different. They were tasty but not for that price. I'd prob pay $3.50 for the amount of food that was there. Also, is it just me or does no Chinese restaurant in Mobile give sweet and sour sauce with crab rangoons? Most places I been to before give it as a dipping sauce but this is the second time, no sauce. :( The lunch special is reasonably priced, but at first glance doesn't appear to be a lot of food. The egg roll was the best part of the meal. The wrapper is thin and crispy and there aren't too much veggies in the filling. The chicken was good. But it's wasn't General's chicken. The sauce was good but not spicy and there were a lot of green peppers. Overall, this place was ok. Not enough food for the price ($12 for lunch) and not what I was expecting. Probably won't be back.

I am in Mobile often for business and I always have to stop in at Taiwan! It would be perfect on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-in's, and Dives" because it is basically a Dive, but the food is the BEST. It actually has flavor! Once you get past the dive part and the owner's, Jenny, standoff personality, you will love the food. BTY, once you get to know Jenny, she is a wonderful person, she just takes some time to warm up to people.

I went to Taiwan expecting takeout or buffet-like quality. Boy did they prove me wrong!! First off, this is not a buffet place. Each dish is made to order, and is great. I would say that it was as good as what I had in Chinatown in NYC last year. It really wowed me. The owner is the cook, and his wife takes care of the dining room. They also have takeout which can be ordered from their website. It's definitely worth the trip for any Chinese food fan!!!

Here is what is wrong with Mobile, there are several reviews who rate this place as excellent. This place is not good in any way, shape or form. The food is not good.

We were on the lookout for some tasty Chinese food in our area of WeMo, and after some really disappointing buffets, we came across Taiwan Takeout (thanks yelp!). As others have stated, its not a typical buffet. I had never actually been to a Chinese restaurant that wasn't a buffet; one where you actually order off a menu? Who knew!? Anyway, my husband grew up in San Diego, so he was our expert in ordering. Now the decor isn't much, (BRIGHT florescent lighting, un-comfy booths, not much decor except 100's of old photographs) but the service and the actual food is top-notch; especially for this area. There is one lady running the front and is like 'grandma' and practically feeds you herself. We have tried the egg rolls, shrimp egg foo young, moo shoo pork, shrimp with lobster sauce and even the sesame balls. We have dined in and also gotten it to go. For to-go orders, you can order ahead of time off their website. I do wish they would deliver though. All in all, pretty good. Pros: good food, friendly quick service Cons: Not much for decor, they don't deliver website: ordercounter.com/taiwan/…

My boyfriend and I went to Taiwan Takeout for dinner in November 2012, after having read the favorable yelp reviews. It was out of our way as we were only passing through Mobile. We were expecting a Chinese restaurant similar to the ones in Chinatown in New York or chicago. The decor is similarly bad but that is where the similarity ends (and we both do not really care about decor at all, as long as the food is good). We got fried pork dumplings to start, and they were pretty good. Interestingly, the starter came at the same time as the main courses. I asked for water, which I did not get until we have started the meal, having to ask for it again. For main course we got General chicken with rice and Noodles with ground pork and veggies (I can't remember the name but it was one of their specials). The chicken tasted exactly like Orange chicken in Panda Express. The Noodles were just spaghetti with ground pork, average at best, and I also specifically asked that it was made spicy. It was not spicy at all, I used a ton of pepper and salt so it would have any taste. We paid $30 for the whole meal, including one bottle of beer, which is what we pay for amazing dim sum in Chinatown in Chicago. Overall, it was all right, the lady who served us was kind but the food is the same quality as Panda Express, not better. I decided to write this review only because I would like other people to know what to expect.

I've been going to Taiwan off and on for a few years. Food is always good. The best dish there is Roast Duck. We use to get it once a month when it was only $11 for a whole roasted duck. It's gotten a little more expensive but still good for the amount of food you get. The servers and owner are so nice. They actually talk to you. I like the family pictures that have around the space. Makes it more cozy. Now, only if they'd take off all the advertisements painted on the windows.

We've ordered takeout a few times from this place and it's consistently fresh and tasty. Not your typical salty greasy pre-made Chinese food. Sweet and sour chicken and beef w/broccoli were excellent. Even my kids who say they don't like Chinese food end up eating what we order. I see other reviews about the duck, but I am just not that adventurous!

I had dinner at this restaurant on the 9-April-2010. The owner is especially friendly and recommended the roasted duck and ma-po tofu (which is not in the menu). Both dishes were surprisingly really tasty and good. I did not know that there exist such good quality restaurant in Mobile. Although I have to admit that I have not been in Mobile for 7 years now. Ma-po tofu sauce appears to be made from scratch. The duck was crispy and flavorful. I had an enjoyable meal and a wonderful time at this restaurant. It is located conveniently near the TARGET and Walmart supercenters.

This isn't a buffet! Do you always feel like a buffet? No, you don't. For those times, you need to come out to West Mobile. Non-greasy, clean tasting, won't leave you with that feeling that you wasted a ton of calories. The orange beef is awesome! Even the fried rice isn't greasy and heavy. Jenny will hook you up.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
