Came in again to try the birria and man was it a good idea. I also had a michelada and being an avid michelada drinker, I can say they make a mean michelada here. Definitely coming back again before I leave Mobile. The service here is also very good and tentative to the customers. Los Bukis playing in the background was a plus.

There is nothing I miss more about Mobile than La Cocina! The sope was my comfort food and could fix anything wrong in life. Small place, but I hear they are moving to a larger building. The staff are absolute family to my husband and I, including being invited to family events and celebrating with each other. It was our first stop when we came home in May. We have not found anything that can hold a match (not even a candle) to La Cocina!

This place isn't bad but be aware it's basic Mexican/American food for basic white people. It's always flocked with diners wearing bright colored polos, equally bright shorts, and maybe some boat shoes. So that's kind of the overall vibe. I go there for lunch because it's convenient.

Delicious Mexican food - everything on the table looked good, especially the steak. This is a total dive, and don't come here if you're in a hurry - they are pretty slow. Also, double repeat any special requests you have - they missed a couple on our order.

Very good food. I once had a burrito the size of my arm!! Lol I travel to Mobile for work and this is my favorite Mexican restaurant here.

It's obvious that not Mexican restaurant knows what a sour cream sauce is for enchiladas! After two attempts they put spoonful of sour cream on the plate. The guacamole looked like baby food. Relocating from Texas the search is still on for good Mexican food!

Fancy white tablecloths and snooty matradees are fine if that's what you're into, but dives are more our kind of place. This is exactly the kind of little restaurant we've been looking for to satisfy our more rustic Mexican food cravings, specifically mole. My husband loves mole sauce, and it's not easy to find. I usually taste his but I never order it myself. We gave this place a try after seeing it on the menu. My son and I ordered off the authentic menu. I ordered Pollo Rostisado (rotisserie chicken) and the waiter suggested I add mole to it, so I went for it. This will be my "usual" dish every time we go, which will be often. The hubs ordered chicken enchiladas and had them top it with mole rather than the usual sauce. Spencer had tacos al pastor (I think) and Stan had some sort of shrimp dish, as always. We knew after we quickly scarfed down the guacamole fresco and licked the plate clean that we would be happy with our entrees, and we certainly were. After dinner, we unanimously agreed that this was our new favorite Mexican restaurant. Fantastic food, super reasonable prices and fantastic service will definitely keep us coming back!

Great little Mexican restaurant in the middle of Airport Blvd. Food and atmosphere are great, and my only problem is the size is prohibitive for large groups. But that's to be expected for a lot of hole-in-the-walls, I suppose!

Great food and great service! My wife and I had the flautas and the carnitas. Both were outstanding, as was the guacamole dip we had beforehand. The margharita wasn't great (only reason for 4 stars vice 5), but the food more than made up for it. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but this place is the real deal!

The food was very good. I got a shrimp quesadilla and my wife got a steak quesadilla. We came early for lunch so there was no wait but the place filled up fast. It is small so seems like a large group would be a hassle. The salsa we really liked. My wife thought the chips were greasy but I thought they were fine. Our booth table squeaked. Servers were very nice.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in mobile. Delicious staples (cheese dip, quesadillas, margaritas), but their authentic style tacos are the thing to get. Basically, it's amazing.

Probably the most consistently good Mexican in Mobile. They have all the standard guero favorites, including some bomb queso. The also have an authentic Mexican section. I recommend the carnitas and the chicharones. The margaritas are mediocre or I'd give 5 stars.

Very good. Portions are big. I had the big burritos. Very inexpensive and the restaurant is small do I always get it too go.

Small building that usually requires a wait. Not many places to wait but they have added a few benches outside the door to do so. Food is fast- Service friendly - decor - lacking. Folks like their Authentic side of the menu but I have yet to order from that side - I usually get items off the a la cart section. The dinners fill the plates to the brim and I can never finich them.

Always get the frozen margaritas. You can't go wrong with anything in the authentico menu. The shrimp diablo bring the heat, and are very tasty. Burritos are huge. It is a small place, so seating is limited.

I recently moved to Mobile and went here on a friend's recommendation. Standard Mexican fare. The food was tasty, and the portions were generous, but I wasn't blown away by anything. The wait was entirely too long, almost an hour on a Wednesday night, especially because there was no waiting area inside (and it was HOT outside). The wait was mostly because a huge party (maybe 20 people?) who had long since finished eating was sitting around chatting and taking selfies. The party took up the whole center of the dining area as well as a few surrounding booths. The place was so crowded that the staff was asking parties to share tables. When we finally got seated, our table was grimy, and there was a golfball-sized hole in the wall. We were also seated in the very back, practically sitting in the servers' prep/drink area, so the floors were wet and dirty, and we were constantly taking over the sound of the waitstaff dishing up ice and drinks right next to our table. Over all, our food was good, and our waitress was friendly, but there was nothing spectacular about it. I read recently that the restaurant is moving or expanding. Hopefully that will help, but until they reopen or relocate, I don't really recommend going here.

Decent. I don't like broccoli in my Mexican food, it's just a filler. The wait staff was pleasant and helpful, and the chips /salsa was decent.

Food was great. Service was slow. Atmoshpere is ok. I would recommend trying La Cocina, but only if you have plenty of time. If you become impatient with slow service, this place will not be enjoyable.

Food was absolutely delicious! The space could use some updating and fixing. Servers were friendly but slightly distracted. Gave our party a very large birthday sundae.

Very inexpensive and very tasty. Sometimes they get packed out and it is difficult to find room in this tiny restaurant.

Sunday margaritas (always get frozen, small is the same size as medium). The authentico menu is where it's at. Try the pollo asada tacos. The black beans are an awesome side as is the picadillo de chorizo. If you are in on a Friday or you just don't dig red meat try the camarones diablo or the mojara.

I'm from Arizona and grew up on good Mexican food. La Cocina was only ok for me. Building is small and old. Food was not as good as the hype. Service was ok. We likely won't be back. There are plenty of other options just as good in mobile.

I love the burritos, enchiladas and rellenos! It's my favorite mexican food in Mobile. It's pretty authentic, which is very nice. The staff is hospitable and helpful. There's plenty of parking, but you had better pack your patience. This place is ALWAYS packed. The only drawback is this location is extremely small. With that being said, it's worth the wait! I love La Cocina!

Great Mexican food. More authentic than what you would usually find. Great service by warn staff. It's not sophisticated (nor are the clientele) but don't let that put you off. We only are in once place in Mobile, AL on our road trip and we weren't disappointed. Enjoy it.

Jose the owner and his family, along with the help there has kept me going back. Friendly staff and good authentic food. It's a small place, so I recommend when trying to see how crowded the parking lot or front door is first. They've opened up another location in Fairhope, which is suppose to be very nice building near the pier area.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona and we are surrounded by good Mexican restaurants but I think this one might give them all a run for their money. I had the tamales and if they aren't the best I've had they are very close. If this place was in Phoenix I would eat their several times a week, count yourself lucky Mobile

I love this place! Great, authentic Mexican food. The salsa is delicious with a nice kick. Their tapatio burrito is excellent! The margaritas have a nice flavor and are really cheap. The staff is awesome. Make sure you don't miss this place!

The best Mexican in Mobile! They have very authentic meals as well as you average coastal mex as well! Small interesting looking place but worth the drop in!

Maybe it is the best Mexican in Mobile, definitely not the best Mexican I"ve ever had. Salsa was obivously fresh and had a nice kick to it. The quessadilla and poblano peppers were good but not particularly memorable. The beans had a slight burnt aftertaste, rice was a little too dry to my taste. The restaurant itself doesn't have much character and it felt dirty, bathrooms in particular. I'll probably give it another try since so many people on Yelp are raving about it, but right now I am just not impressed. Somebody on Yelp suggested that the Spanish menu should be used instead of the English. I don't see how that might work -- the menu consists of 4 pages; the English part includes apps, items a la carte (like tacos, burritos and such like), vegetarian plates, fajitas. The Hispanic part includes heavier entrees - seafood and meat/ steaks and it was actually very easy to read. The service was pretty decent.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Mobile, and I've been to quite a few. I second the reviewer below. Don't order off the english menu. Don't touch it. Not that it's not good, but really, if you are gonna sit crammed next to crates of beer cans you are gonna want to get something worth it.

Best mexican in Mobile. Very authentic and great prices. It is one of my favorite places to eat. Only negative is the margherritas- but you can have a beer instead!

We love the food here, and it seems more authentic than many other Mexican places in Mobile. The salsa has a wonderful spicy afterbite, and the white shredded cheese on my taco was particularly delicious. Obviously shredded fresh and melt-in-your-mouth flavor. I love cheese, so yes, this is a big deal to me. The cheese dip seems to be made from the same cheese, so it's also very good. The margarita here kicks my 5'3" butt. It doesn't have the best taste, but it is really strong. I ordered a small frozen margarita, and halfway through, I was light-headed and feeling pretty good. After I drank the whole thing, everything my husband said seemed especially funny. I woke up this morning with a bad headache, but it was worth it. Again, that's all from one small margarita that cost around $3.50. Four stars instead of five because the chicken filling in the burrito doesn't rock my world and because their building is way too small now that the word has gotten out about La Cocina. We were there at 5:50 on a Friday night and people were waiting outside. They're going to have to expand soon.

La Cocina might be the best Mexican restaurant in Mobile. The tortas and fajitas are the jam! Servers are nice. The entrance/exit is a mess when busy. Besides that, no complaints.

What a hidden gem. Hiding in the Brunos parking lot is the best Mexican we've had in Mobile. The place is very small but the food is great and affordable. The only reason I am not giving five stars is because of the terrible margaritas. I can only hope that they invest in a better mix and put the proper amount of tequila in each rita.

Only a 4 due to the restaurant's looks. My husband and I drive 1 hour just to eat here. He found this from a yahoo search. The fresh salsa is served in carafes so you can keep refilling your bowl. The chips are usually served warm. The gaucamole appetizer has chopped cilanto, jalapenos, tomatoes and onions. Refreshing and spicy. I either get the chicken enchiladas verde (nice warm spice) or the chicken fajitas. These are both my favorite versions of these dishes at any restaurant. The frozen margaritas though not the best I have had are cheap and refeshing with the heat of the food. My husband has also gotten the chorizo tacos. Nice to find chorizo at a mexican restaurant. Also a wonderful flavour and kick.

A popular small mexican restaurant. local owners who are there working. Food is good. Seats around 50. The local hispanic community likes it as well. Sometimes there is a short wait of maybe 10 minutes but it moves fast. I love their burritos and enchiladas. Salsa and chips are good.

The service is slow at this location. Now that's out of the way, the food is great. I usually get the12 inch steak burrito tapatio. It's like they put the whole menu in this thing :D I can't eat the whole thing in one sitting, so I take the leftovers home for breakfast (and what a breakfast!) the next day. I adore the spicy red sauce that's on top. You can see the the red pepper flakes :) The salsa is nice. Not wimpy mild but spicy enough to let you know what's up.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
