Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Coming from Memphis, we're trying to find restaurants comparable to our favorites back home. We stumbled upon this place one day at lunch, and all I can say is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Memphis has been dethroned as the best Mexican food ever. We started off with guacamole, which was made fresh at our table with the ingredients, and to the texture, we requested. It was, by far, the best guacamole we've ever eaten. The salsa was much better than most too. For our entrees, we split the seafood enchiladas and the mahi tacos. Both were great, but the seafood enchiladas definitely outshined the tacos. The beans and rice were average, and the little scoop of tamale dough was a nice touch. The price seemed a little high for lunch but the food was definitely worth it. The service was great. Without a doubt, this is our go-to for Mexican seafood.

Pretty disappointed after finally getting to try this place. To start, every staff member we had contact with acted as if they hated their job. Our waiter was a total douche. The girl who delivered our drinks was very bitchy. With that said, we ordered the highly raved shrimp el matador. They were good. Not amazing, not worth $11. We split the fried fish tacos with black beans. Lacked a lot of flavor. I was hoping to love this place. Even the decor needed some tlc. Also, they need to clean their air vents. DISGUSTING.
(2)Dylan S.
Very good and the food was fresh and service was fast. We got the table side guac and el matador shrimp I thought they both where good maybe a little to much sauce on the shrimp but they where still good. We also got the el conquistador burrito and enchiladas both where good but not five stars. Worth eating here of your in the area

I find the food to be adequate at best. Certainly, better than the run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex restaurant. However, nothing to get excited about or to make a special trip to get. I found the staff to be super friendly. I did find the long wait to get the Ghost Pepper sauce, or my appetizers a bit disconcerting. All-in-all, an average restaurant trying to pass itself off as something special. I did like the Dias De Los Muertos art decor. However, the art does not help the quality of the food.
(2)Renae B.
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant! There are fantastic options for vegetarians (be aware only the black beans and white rice are made without meat, the refried beans and brown rice aren't vegetarian but not all the wait staff seems to know this). Also, the sangria and margaritas are amazing.

We have enjoyed Fuego for some time, and going there was always an enjoyable experience. However, we went this weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday and everything about the place seems to have slipped. The Guacamole was still prepared tableside as always, but it was bland and was clearly missing a key ingredient. The other appetizer, El Matador Shrimp, frankly, tasted a bit off. The entrees were meh and also were not hot. The service was also lacking. Maybe this was just a bad night. But one more night like this one and we are scratching this place off the list.
(1)Karin B.
Best salsa you will ever put in your mouth! I also like their shrimp matador. They have great decor. I haven't found an entree there yet I like :-/ I go there for the salsa!
(3)Rashad S.
Great Mexican restaurant in Mobile. Food is awesome. Quest is some of the best I've ever had. I've had and would recommend the fajitas, fish tacos, ribeye, enchiladas, and taco soup. Quesadillas are also pretty good.
(4)Keith P.
The food just isn't as good as you hope it is. Kind of a cool atmosphere, decent people and seemingly a good place to drink but falls far short on the culinary side of things. It's not that it's awful but it's definitely not great.
(3)Lori L.
Took an hour to get food at lunchtime. Poor service. Food was good. Asked for a manager - they don't have one.?? Very disrespectful answers I received as to why it took so long.

On our recent trip to Mobile to search for an apartment, we drove by this place. We had spent a very long morning being disappointed, but our last stop ended up being "the one." So we doubled back to Fuego for a much-needed lunch and to discuss the details of our upcoming move. I had a margarita on the rocks (very good), an El Conquistador burrito (hold the beef, delicious), and my hubby had the Enchiladas Suiza (he cleaned his plate). We are super excited to know this place is nearby once we move. Relocating to a new city and state can be so crazy, but it helps to have a go-to place. Besides, margaritas with chips and salsa can pretty much save any day. Tip: They are now open for lunch on Saturdays (which is when we went). It wasn't terribly busy and service was great.
(4)Jessie K.
Fuego was one of the first restaurants we tried in Mobile. It's the perfect cuisine for people who are looking for Mexican and enjoy clean eating. The salsa is fabulous every time we go. Our favorite time to go to Fuego is Tuesday nights, for Taco Tuesday. They have happy hour everyday, but on Tuesdays you get 2 tacos for $3.00. The first time we went to Taco Tuesday we caught it right as it was ending, yet the bartender was super sweet and gave us the chance to try it. In fact the bartending staff is always such a pleasure to be around and as a former bartender, I can say that they truly work hard to attend to every customer.
(5)Sonya V.
Worth the drive and experience. The table-side guacamole is to die for, as are the seafood enchiladas. Atmosphere and service were good as well. The freshness of the meal rated four stars.
(4)Jade M.
Great food , great service! Huge margaritas! I got the one with jalapeno and cucumber, stong and hot hot hot! Then I had the one with watermelon and cucumber, cool sweet and delicious! I got the sampler plate with Chile Relleno and the fuego rolls. Delicious! The queso is good but super hot. The pinto beans have a wonderfully smokey flavor and are seasoned with conecuh sausage. Heard good things about this place and they were all true! Did not care for the guacamole. Although it is made fresh and tableside, it is a bit pricey and I am partial to my own recipe. Tasted my boyfriend's pork enchilada, even the fat melts in your mouth. Mexi-Cali fusion, nice atmosphere, will go again as there is much more I wish to try on the menu! Oh and I can't forget the corn cake, its like a little moist corn fritter, a little golden doubloon that leaves you wanting more!
(5)Lynn P.
We were a large group and our waiter was fantastic. The food was great. Fresh ingredients really make a difference. This place is by far the best Mexican in town. I can't wait to go back.
(5)Starlynn B.
Great food and service! Best Mexican food I have had in Mobile. Authentic!
(5)Jennifer P.
The service was great and the table guac was awesome. My beans had a horrible after taste. Neither my friend's nor my entrées were sauced per the menu and were dry.
(3)Michael P.
Now this place does deserve 5 stars. First, their salsa and tortillas are unique and are really good. I have never had a bad meal here. All the menu items I have ordered for lunch are exquisite twists on standard hispanic fare. I can't remember all the dishes I have tried, but all are good. This place is also somewhat wheelchair accessible, which is a plus. (they could work on their curb ramps a little, but they aren't too bad). All in all, this is my go to place to bring a new staff person to impress them with Mobile area cuisine.
(5)Lorraine M.
It was awesome. Great margaritas. Great food. Great service. We stopped in while droning cross country and were VERY pleasantly surprised. Would go back again if we ever went back to Mobile
(5)Jennifer H.
Stopped for lunch, great service! Food was excellent and margaritas were great! We had fajitas, enchiladas, fuego rolls! Would love to come back!
(5)Donald E.
I'll give it a four, closer to a 3.5. It's the best Mexican rest. in Mobile, but most here are really sorry. Nice upscale, spot for couples, small groups. Good lunch menu.
(4)Sarah C.
My husband and I decided to give Fuego a try today around 2:45pm. We love to try new places but this place was very disappointing. The service was good, the unsweet tea was watered down, but the chips and salsa was very fresh and crispy. We ordered the nachos for appetizer which were tasty, but then we also got the snapper cevich which was unusual tasting, not a fan, it was full of red onions. I ordered the braised pork and refried beans.... Ummm it tasted like it was left over from yesterday and warmed up again. The menu said it had 23 spices on it... You could not tell! My hubs got half a chicken that was dry, tasteless and it tasted old. He got pinto beans with his dinner and they tasted and looked just like mine. It was very pricey and not worth the time in our opinion. I don't mind being Debbie downer! I want to eat somewhere good!
(1)Braxton M.
The guacamole and margaritas are good. But the cheese had already rehardened in my enchiladas. Not good. I'd probably go back and give it another shot, it's a nice place.
(3)T F.
Fuego used to be great. A must for a special occassion. But lately it's missing the mark and I hate that b/c I really enjoyed coming here. The service is still good but everything else isn't. Food was very bland and expensive. When the plates come out, there's no wow factor. It's your basic Mexican dishes. I can get the same thing for half the price at one of the many Mexican restaurants in town. Drinks were expensive, contained almost zero alcohol and were served in very skinny/medium sized glasses. If you're going to sell an expensive drink, at least put it in a decent sized glass. I would come here for happy hour but would go somewhere else for dinner. There's just too many good restaurants in town.
(2)Patrilie H.
I'm probably the only person on here who has given this place a bad review, and as much as I hate being a "Debbie Downer", I need to be honest. Let's start off with the good aspects of the restaurant (and there were several): We walked in a little before 8 pm on a Friday night. The place was busy enough, but not overly crowded. We were able to get seated right away. The ambiance and decor were great, really loved the feel of the restaurant. Our server was a sweetheart and very knowledgeable of the menu. (Always a plus!) She recommended the house margarita and I was pleasantly surprised: the tequila was smooth and the mix was not too sweet or overpowering. The chips were warm and crisp, and the salsa was flavorful. Now to the bad part of the evening: the food. I ordered the soup of the day as an appetizer and my friend ordered the tortilla soup. We asked for it to be brought out as an appetizer, but it was brought out with our food. I didn't want to be too picky about it, but it was hard to eat both the soup and entree at once. The soup was alright, but not very warm. My friends tortilla soup was better. As an entree, I ordered the carnitas, and my friends ordered the chicken fajitas and the chile verde pork. My plate of carnitas was incredibly bland and the food was hardly warm. The 23 flavor sauce tasted like it came from a can. The pinto beans lacked any spice and the portion was incredibly small for the $18 dollars they were charging. I would have gladly paid the price if the food was better quality, but it was poor. My friend's fajitas were slightly better, but not by much. The chicken breast was dry and the corn and flour tortillas were dry and tough. My friend's chile verde pork was a small portion of meat balls, and in addition to being dry, it seemed like they lacked salt altogether. Weird thing is, about a month ago, I had visited Mimo's for lunch, and had encountered the same problem: food was overpriced and they didn't deliver on the quality you would expect by reading the menu. My boyfriend and I had planned to go for a special evening, but glad we didn't because we were disappointed greatly by the food. If I ever do go again in the future, I will go for the house Margarita and chips, but nothing else.
(2)Jason N.
The cuisine is an interesting twist on standard Mexican food. They offer more fresh seafood dishes than most Mexican places, and it's great. Good food with excellent presentation, well crafted margaritas and friendly service.
(5)Lawrence L.
Great atmosphere. Food is well prepared with more unique options than other standard Mexican restaurants in the area. While food seems fresher than others (not frozen and thawed in a microwave), it is very similar to the Tex-Mex chain on the west coast called Chevy's.
(4)Britney M.
Food is ehhhh... appetizers are AMAZING! I always go for the Guacamole and Cheese dip, their salsa is the Bomb.com ! Margaritas are stellar!!!!
(4)John B.
Used a Groupon to try out, which always causes concern as to why they had to use Groupon to drive business. However the food was excellent, service was great, and the price was reasonable (not cheap like most Mexican places around, however it was in line for quality of food). Nice spice kick to food, not too hot, not too bland. The salsa with the complimentary chips was excellent, the chips came out still warm from cooking. You should get the Fuego Rolls for an appetizer. I also had the Conquistador Burrito, and finished with the ChimiCheesecake, which was so good I felt like I should go to a confessional afterwards. So much better than the chains, or touristy type of Mexican restaurants in the area. Definitely a favorite, and we will be back. (It's the next morning and I'm still full.)
(5)Kim M.
We've been here before and would have rated it 3 stars on those occasions, but this last visit was great. Our server David was awesome. His recommendations were spot-on. I had a delicious, perfect top-shelf margarita and my husband was happy with his vodka tonics. For appetizer, we had the ahi tuna and it was very, very good. I had steak fajitas for my dinner, they were ok. The hot plate they came on was way too hot and it burned the vegetables and overcooked the steak. The other ingredients were fresh and tasty. I actually enjoy darker restaurants, so I was happy with the atmosphere.

I have eaten at this new little Mexican restaurant twice now....both times lunch. Once during the week and once on a Saturday afternoon with my husband. I would classify the food on the gourmet side of Mexican. They have a limited menu for lunch, with all items priced at $7.95. You have the option of ordering from the dinner menu anytime. Their lunch menu is available Monday thru Saturday. The overall atmosphere is very nice, tastefully done, There is a nice large bar located against one wall with two flat screen TVs mounted on the wall. When we walked into the door, we were immediately greeted and seated. The service is very good and well organized. Chips and salsa are served within minutes of being seated and our drink orders taken and delivered right away. We both ordered the Pomegranate/Blueberry tea...fun and different! We ordered the double ceviches appetizer. I was so looking forward to this dish...this is why I returned to Fuego on Saturday afternoon with my husband. The two types of ceviches were served in fried tortillas cups. One ceviches was a shrimp and crab ceviches and the other a fish and avocado ceviches. The fish and avocado ceviches was ok at best. I could not eat the shrimp and crab cevishes, it was fishy and the texture of the fish was chewy and somewhat rubbery. The dish was served with three little round, fried tortillas. Certainly not enough for the quantity of the cerviches. Overall I was disappointed and will not order this appetizer in the future. My husband ordered the California burrito and enjoyed it. He said it was a little dry but the meat inside was good and the beans were good. Overall ....not impressed. I ordered the chicken enchilada with a white sauce (better than the red sauce that will come with the enchilada if you do not specify differently). I also had a chicken taco on a soft shell. This was very good and spicy too. The salsa that is served with tortillas is awesome,...made with roasted tomatoes. So Good. I explained the problem with the cerviches to the server. She was attentive to the problem and said that she will discuss the problem with the owner and try to make it better for the future. There is ample parking located in the front of the restaurant, both sides and to the rear of the building. There is no outdoor seating.

I had dinner here on a Friday night around 7:00pm. The wait was estimated to be 25 minutes but was only about 10 (Praise Heavens.) While their waiting are is very feng shui, the rest of the place's atmosphere was more warehouse. Dark and modern. The high ceilings did not make for a cozy feeling and because of the low lighting, I had to read the menu to my mom-in-law. The all important chips and salsa were good, but not great. The Tex Mex flavor fell a bit flat. On the recommendation of a friend, we ordered the made to order guac. Now this was fantastic. Really fresh and tasty. The food was delivered very quickly for a Friday night. I ordered the Spicy Grilled Shrimp and Seafood Relleno. If this review was based totally on my food, it would be five starts. This was delicious. Definitely the best choice. My mom in law got the Seafood Enchiladas, which came in second. Good, but not AS good. My husband and friend both ordered the Fish Tacos and were disappointed. The fish was bland which made for less than ideal tacos. I enjoyed eating his jicama cabbage slaw though. So, I will probably give Fuego another try, but only one more.
(3)J. T.
I'm a big fan of Mexican food, and I thought Fuego surpassed the usual quality of Mexican restaurants found around Mobile. As such, it's a bit more expensive than most of them, too. I like the atmosphere provided by the high ceilings and dim lighting, first of all. The pico de gallo is amazing-- it's fresh and has a slightly sweet taste from the roasted corn, and we simply couldn't stop eating it until it was gone. I had a frozen Mexican flag margarita, which was layered with lime, lemon, and strawberry flavors. It was pretty to look at and tasted good, too, though not particularly potent. I had a soft taco and a hard taco, and both were very good with very fresh pico toppings. Husband had the fish tacos and enjoyed them, as well. I'm eager to go back and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for Mexican food that is a little different from the standard fare.
(4)Marcia S.
3 1/2 stars Spot # 10 This may be one of the hippest spots in Mobile. The decor is modern and the atmosphere is friendly. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. We enjoyed our visit very much. Margaritas and food were great!!!!! My only suggestion is to pass on the queso. Not good and the guacamole (made at your table) looked so much better.
(3)Angel E.
If I could do partial stars, I'd give them 3.5. Nice atmosphere, warm and welcoming, a little too dark (we could barely read the menu and that did limit our selections). They had a one-man-show live music the night we went - good music but too loud and distracting. They have extended their happy hour till 7 p.m. --- you get $3 house wine (very drinkable), $3 huge margaritas, beer, and several appetizers for $4. We ordered tortilla soup and the seven seas soup. Both were delicious. I was impressed that the calamari in seven seas soup were tender. For the main course, all of us ordered the seafood enchiladas. They were good but not a wow -- the sauce could have been more spicy, the black beans did not have that much flavor, and we didn't care much for the Mexican cornbread which turned out to be a sweet sticky blob of dough. The desserts were good. We liked the flan; the fried cheesecake was alright - fun to try it once; the ice cream was very good.
(3)Ronald M.
Love the atmosphere and the food is good as well.
(4)Khoala Kate T.
Went here for lunch recently. The lunch specials were very reasonably priced at $8. The complimentary salsa was very good and fresh. I ordered the chicken fajitas. They were pretty good although the chicken was a little too dry for my tastes. I'm not sure if the food is worth the drive from West Mobile.
(3)AJ H.
Better than your run of the mill Mexican fare. Nice atmosphere but poor acoustics.

We ate here a few weeks ago on a Friday night I believe it was. We arrived about 630 pm and only waited a few minutes before we were seated. There's a bar with some high tables, a couple rows of booths and some tables here and there. They were very busy. But even despite all the busy-ness, service was very quick and friendly. Food was REALLY good. I had a cup of the chicken tortilla soup and the chicken quesadilla appetizer, my fiance had the fish tacos, which he said was the best fish tacos he's had since leaving San Diego...12 years ago. My meal was exceptional. The standard chips and salsa came before the meal and while it wasn't a huge basket of chips nor large bowl of salsa, the chips were fresh and the salsa was pretty good. They make fresh guacamole table-side. I looked around and noticed some of the margaritas people had ordered, and they looked pretty good. May have to partake in the future. My ONLY complaint would be the noise. Since we there on a packed friday night, it was very loud and we practically had to shout to hear each other; all high high ceilings and no soft surfaces to absorb the sound. If you want a nice meal with your significant other, I would recommend trying to go when they aren't busy. Otherwise I would think this would be a fun place for after work with your coworkers and friends. Definitely will return!
(4)Matt D.
Impressed with the food and the service. I had the burrito San Diego and it was perfect. The salsa is probably in the top three that I have ever had. They have it to go as well... That might be dangerous?!? Enjoy!
(4)William M.
Very good presentation... Good Salsa and great spicy cheese dip. Had seafood enchiladas and Conquistador burrito with chicken. Sides were better quality than your run of the mill Mexican restaurant. Unique atmosphere and menu... Going to try the Carne Asada next time, that is a true test for a great mexican restaurant... Will check in after next visit.
(4)Matthew H.
I love Fuego for when I am feeling like upping my Mexican food game. I have tried the combination platter, which I always order so I can get the Mexican corn cake. I also love the warm Fuego salad. Their salsa has so much flavor as well. I can't forget the table side guacamole! Very yummy, but a little overpriced.
(4)Eugene L.
I am giving it a 3 stars review. Atmosphere was nice, service was okay. I was wanting more of the sour cream sauce covered in jack cheese. Enchiladas were a little dry. The search continues for a good sour cream enchiladas here in the Deep South !
(3)Roxanna M.
Food was very flavorful! The bar staff was also great! They serve table side guacamole which is delicious. I'd definitely go back!
(5)Orlando L.
I ate here by the recommendation of some fellow Elite Yelpers. I am glad I did!! We arrived at 17:30 on a Saturday night, there is ample parking space 360 degrees around the restaurant. Be careful of the slope just northwest, you'll bottom out on the road. We were seated quickly, but by 18:30 the waiting list started. For starters , I ordered a frozen margarita and my wife got a frozen piña colada. The chips and salsa that was served were excellent. The chips were fresh with just the right about of salt and the salsa was mmmmmm good. Our servers name was Daniel and along with the info from Yelp reviews and Daniels recommendations we begin to order. For an appetizer we got the El Matador shrimp which was jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon, jalepeño, and gouda. I read on the menu that the guacamole was prepared at the table side. We did not order it but the table next to us did... and the server showed up with 4 halves of avocado and BAM she made it right there. Can't get any fresher than that. For entrees, my wife ordered the seafood enchiladas with rice and black beans. I ordered the banana leaf wrapped Dorado Vera Cruz with rice and pinto beans which had Conecuh sausage added to it. Each plate came with tamale dough as a side. Mmmmmm Fuego's had a few choices on there dessert menu but we were too full to try any, maybe next visit. Everything was good, this dinner experience was magnificent. I would definitely recommend Fuegos. We will visit again soon!
(5)Jon M.
This place is very average. There is nothing exceptionally good about the food, but the atmosphere is good and the restaurant is clean. The service is average too. If you are getting the margarita get the frozen one, margarita on the rocks is pretty bad here
(3)Tom C.
Tried Fuego for the first time last night. I'd heard plenty of good things about it from a coworker so a group of us went for dinner to celebrate his 30 year anniversary with the company. Our group of 12 had a reservation for 5pm, and there was no competition for parking or seating. Plenty of parking all the way around the building, up one side (right off upham st.) and down the other, as well as in front (right off dauphin). Seemed like a slow night, but we were quickly brought beverages and complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh but the salsa was bland.. no salt and no heat to speak of. We had the guacamole, queso blanco, and buffalo wings as appetizers. The guac and queso were a great improvement over the salsa! Very flavorful! The wings were good too, not breaded and fried long enough to cook a good portion of the fat away, just the way I like em. The buffalo sauce had good heat as well. I ordered the grilled salmon with the pineapple jalapeno sauce on the side. It came with rice and grilled veggies. The veggies were a bit soggy, and the rice clumpy and overdone, but a splash of Cholula hot sauce made them good enough to eat. The salmon was very good, if perhaps cooked 30 seconds too long... just a little bit dry. Flavorful and the pineapple jalapeno sauce was tangy, sweet, and a little hot all in one. Only thing I didn't like is the salmon was served with the skin on. I don't like to scrape fish off a skin or peel it off and leave an unappetizing lump on the side of the plate. Fuego has a good selection of authentic mexican beers, including my favorite, bohemia. Unfortunately, wearing a shirt with the company logo on it, it was non-alcoholic beverages for me. The waitress did an excellent job keeping my unsweet iced tea topped off. The reasons I can't give a fifth star on this trip: the soggy/overdone sides, lackluster salsa, and even though we were a large group, it took about 15 minutes from the time the first entree was served until the last one was served. Our one waitress made 4 or 5 trips to the kitchen to bring all the entrees out when the restaurant was definitely not crowded and there were plenty of employees standing around in the back chatting when they could have been helping bring our meals out. As a result some of the early entrees were nearly cold when we began eating once everyone was served. I'm looking forward to coming back alone or with a much smaller group to try some of the other dishes that looked great in front of my coworkers as they did on the menu!

Good service and a large meal. If your there for lunch get the choose two combo and you can't go wrong with any of the items available.
