This is the 3rd shot we've given because we really want to like it. Here are my experiences here: 1. Their dining room floor is literally caving in. So much so that they really need to close until it is fixed or have caution signs. 2. Went for brunch and picked out a delicious sounding french toast. Was told they are taking it off the menu, don't have it. They JUST reopened and are already taking things off of a brand new menu. She offered me a simple french toast without all the fancy stuff on the menu version, so I asked for that. It came out burnt with bits of onion on it. Charged full gourmet price of the french toast. The menu item included bananas, black currant brioche, brandy caramel syrup, etc. I got burnt toast with a little syrup and onion flavor and was charged full menu price. 3. Waited a very, very long time to order and to be served. Was never asked how our food was (it was bad.) 4. Our mimosas were kept filled by the hostess which was good. 5. My vegetarian friend ordered a veggie burger -OUT. Ok, what about this other vegetarian option - OUT. 6. My husband ordered the "Hot Brown" which sounds and looks great, but it was too salty for him to eat and he is Not a picky eater. 7. Waiter has no idea what beer they have. After he comes back with a few names, they are out of every one we ask for. 8. Apps never arrive. Basically, they have an amazing sounding menu but are not able to deliver on it. Good ideas, terrible execution.

I was so excited when I went for Sunday Brunch. Read the brunch menu and the regular menu and couldn't wait to come back because there were many items I wanted to come back and try. I had the crab cakes eggs benedict for brunch. The egg yolks were cooked through, which is always a bummer. Overall meal was okay but I was intrigued enough to come back. On return visit, for dinner, we started with the buffalo chicken waffle fries. The fries were overcooked and too crispy. Hubby got the wings and said they were over-fried too. There was only 1 server in the whole place so our service was very poor. Also, the whole place was smokey like their kitchen exhaust didn't work, but our server never tried to air it out or even acknowledge the issue. Overall we tried the place twice and weren't pleased twice. I won't go back, which is disappointing because I live in midtown and would love a good place to add to the rotation.

Just made my 3rd visit, and still amazing. The chicken and waffle sandwich is every bit as delicious as it sounds, and I had it with fried apples. Today I had the pimento cheese bacon croissant with sweet potato fries. Both so good. My visit today was for lunch, so I sat at the bar and had very fast service. It appears they had more people working than usual, so I will take that as a good sign, and it improves service time as well. I just love this place. Hoping to coerce my boss into going next week while she's in town!

Excellent food and service. We had breakfast bowl (yummy), breakfast quesedilla (delicious), beignets (delectable) and bottomless bloody Mary's and Mimosas (yayyyyy!). Did I mention bottomless bloody Mary's and Mimosas? Yayyyy! Talk to Miss Brenda about all their other savory delights such has their burgers with donut or pizza buns. ahem. Did I mention bottomless bloody Mary's and Mimosas? Yayyyyy!

Strong southern cooking with a well curated local beer menu. When I'm in mobile, I'd definitely come back to hang out ...

Some reviewers mentioned fast service. Well, it was definitely not our idea of fast - over 40 mins to put out two omelets and some crabcakes. And we were not the only table waiting for our food forever today; to the point where it became inconvenient and irritating. The food - when it came out at last - did not justify the wait - it tasted ok, not bad but not great either and it definitely was not worth the price--- the names of the dishes were cool and trendy but that's where it stopped; we could have gotten the same elsewhere for Much less and faster. Very disappointed and will not be coming back or recommending it to anybody. P.S. Absolutely agree with another reviewer- a sloppy, disorganized, and very confused "service" (if one can even call that a service).

This is my first experience at Benjamin's, and we had brunch, usually a favorite meal in my family. It seems to be a family owned and operated restaurant, and I hesitate to write anything negative for that reason. The menu was very creative, and the prices were good. However, the service was very slow and the food mediocre. All in all, it was a disappointing experience that we won't repeat.

Ate there for Saturday lunch. Food was excellent. The candied jalapeños are quite possible the best appetizer I've had. The chicken waffle sandwich was good but nothing special. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant a lot. The waiter (and possibly owner) was very nice and helpful. The food did, however, take forever to come out. Not a place to dine if you're in a hurry.

Ordered the Reubenjamin and sweet potato fries. Sandwich was salty and greasy. Fries were limp. Service was very, very slow. Went at lunch and there were very few customers. I can not imagine going back.

Must try! At Benjamin's you feel like you're part of the family, and the food is fabulous. Because it's in midtown, I always run into friends which makes it even more fun. I'd recommend the shrimp and grits and the conecuh sausage cheesecake. I tried their brunch for the first time a couple of weeks ago too, and it was great!

I am pretty surprised this place doesn't have 5 stars. The word-of-mouth has always been stellar, so my friends and I popped in to give it a try on a Saturday morning. Our mouths were watering from the menu, and we all grappled with what we would get since everything sounded amazing. I ended up getting the pulled pork sandwich and tots, and it was all delicious and amazing! I want to bring my family back when they come in town because they do unique twists on southern classics!

The absolute best dining experience I've had in Mobile, period, and I've had some good ones! The service was incredible, our food was served in about 15 minutes and was perfect, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. I got the John Wayne burger w/ tots, my wife had the chicken and waffles, and they were both perfectly prepared and delicious! The peach and jalapeño jelly served with the waffles was some of the best stuff we had ever eaten. I would've bought a five gallon bucketful if they sold it. We'll definitely be going back because there is a million other things we want to try; meatball cupcakes, conecuh sausage cheesecake, the donut burger... 5 stars for visit #1 though!

While the menu looks promising, the attitude and service of the staff are terrible. This restaurant is ran by what appears to be a mother and her son. That's it. No other staff found anywhere in the building. When walking in to ask for a table of 9, we were told that there was a large group that were cashing out and we would be seated promptly after they left. As the man was telling us we could be seated soon, the mother was looking at him shaking her head as if to say "we can't accommodate these people, and I'm going to have to wait on all these tables and fix all these meals now that we have another big group." Footnote, the restaurant was not busy or packed. At all. We were told we could sit at the "bar" to wait. No drinks offered to us while we waited. Nothing. There were dirty dishes and an empty beer bottle camped out on the "bar" since God knows how long that weren't picked up. The large group we were waiting to leave finally did after about 15 minutes after our arrival. During this time two other groups, party of two and party of four, walked in and stood at the entrance for a good ten minutes before even being acknowledged. Both of those groups were seated while the dishes from the large party we were waiting on were left to sit on the table that we were expecting to have. After about 35 minutes of sitting at the "bar," no drinks, no acknowledgment that they would get us seated and two other groups whose orders would now be ahead of ours, we left, just as the dishes were starting to be picked up, two at a time. It would've taken that lady another 20 minutes just to clean the table. And guaranteed none of the nine dishes we would have ordered as a group would've came out hot. If you've got about three hours to kill for a meal and have no desire for good customer service, come to Benjamin's. If you're normal and like to have a good dining experience, stay away.

Fantastic service and fantastic food. John Wayne burger is then best novelty burger in Mobile, Conechua Cheesecake is one phenomenal and the only place you can find it, and also had their bourbon buffalo wings that were very crispy and good. 5th time at bejamins and this time we brought company, confident the food can deliver and they did. Our friends were very content and one in our party had fried Reese's cups that she raved about but I couldn't bing myself around to it. Perhaps next time, but this place is fantastic.

When this place was MiMos, it was pretty great. I've only visited "Benjamin's" once, and it was for brunch. WORST BRUNCH EVER. Overpriced and gross! It took forever to be served, the waiter had no idea what he was doing, he gave us bottled water and cups of coffee that were only half-full (??!?!?!), and that was only the beginning. Everyone at my table was told that what they wanted to order wasn't available. Like, they were out of half the menu. It was only 11 AM. My vegetarian friend ordered the vegetarian omelet, and when it was served to her it was teeming with conecuh sausage. When the waiter returned with an ACTUAL vegetarian omelet, it was filled with frozen vegetables that weren't completely cooked. The other omelet at our table was supposed to contain three eggs, but was about the size of my hand (I'm a petite woman). It cost $13. I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of eggs, and all of that was inedible. The eggs tasted of an unwashed cooking surface. They were disgusting. The "gravy" covering my biscuits was obviously reconstituted from a powder. ALSO, the waiter felt bad about our long ticket time and brought us some free "cheese grits" to munch on while we waited. They tasted EXACTLY the same as the gravy on my biscuits. Weird, weird, weird. Gordon Ramsay needs to pay this restaurant a visit.

I gave this place 3 chances several months ago and it just wasn't good. Today, a friend suggested we go there for brunch. To be honest, I'm surprised they're still open. I thought that, maybe, they had gotten it together and figured out how to run a restaurant. Sadly, I was mistaken. They just don't know what they're doing. Don't bother going here. It's a complete waste of time and money. I gave it one star because that was the lowest option.

I've been more than once and we will go again - My first visit, wasn't quite pleased with my entrée - I had the Chicken & waffles. I guess it just came out different than what I expected and found it a pricey choice. Someone else may have loved it. Service was a bit slow too. When I'm hungry, that's really not a good thing. Second visit, decision was easy!! Thursday is 50cent wings! YUM. Husband and I enjoyed that and the bill was a lot better than the first visit too. I think there are many good choices. Diners may need to give it more than one try to make a true "review." It seems to have a great "bar" experience. The twenty somethings seem to enjoy that. Give it a try. It has it's own flair that you may enjoy.

Food is amazing!!! Great soups, awesome BBQ, and huge great tasting burgers!! Service is great, prices very fair and wonderful atmosphere!! Owner does most of the serving himself, wonder attitude and very attentive!! Friendly and a must come for a wonderful meal!!

We went this morning for brunch...... Well we ended up waiting 45 minutes for our food. I got the fried chicken and waffles, the chicken was under seasoned and they went ahead and put the syrup ( which was not real maple by the way) on the whole dish so the waffles ended up being really soggy. The hubby got Nana break fast burger, it was ok.... The worst part was the ketchup that was on the table was soured. Yuck. I don't know how long this restaurant has been in business but it seemed like they were disorganized and for the place not to be that busy.... It was a really long wait for mediocre food. It was very disappointing after all the good reviews I read on yelp.

My first visit was good. Food was great. Service was a slow but no biggie after seeing the menu and being excited about trying my entree. Second visit 3 weeks later was a different story unfortunately. My friend and I went for brunch. Actually we were the first in the door at 10:00 am. Seated immediately and ordered. After a considerable wait my friend was served and I was not. The waiter explained that my order gotten mixed up somehow on the computer and will in fact be a few more minutes. I said ok no problem. After waiting another 30 minutes my entree was served!!! I was thoroughly aggravated by this. AND starved. Of course my friend was totally finished with his meal by this time and felt bad for eating in front of me. I was mortified that the entree wasn't taken off my ticket automatically. But it was not. After inquiring to the waiter if he thought it was right for me to have to pay for my entree after waiting for such a long time. He said no. He thought it was wrong for me to have to pay. Well then the "partial owner," an older female, came to the table to inform me that it would NOT be taken off my bill. I offered to pay for my cocktails, of course, but told her that it was of no fault of mine that I had to wait so long. She offered a $10 gift card for next time but I told her that I wouldn't be coming back. She seemed to not be phased by this and walked away. I signed my bill, tipped my waiter and left. Btw, never saw the gift card. Though I'd have left it on the table anyway. My entree was $15. Her offer was a $10 gift card. Instead of making me feel welcome and that my business meant something to her she'd rather do the opposite, all for a $5 difference. That's idiotic customer service. My friend said he would not return either.

Benjamin's has a unique take on Southern food. Everything tasted homemade and the flavors were superb! My only complaint was that some of the dishes had missing elements or were different than the description. Our server(/manager/owner?) said they were in the middle of a menu transition so some menu items weren't quite ready yet. While that was mildly off-putting, the quality of the food made up for it. I think once they get the kinks worked out, they'll have a great restaurant that Mobile can be proud of.

I can't say enough nice things about the food and staff. Seating is cozy and comfortable. There is a nice private meeting room that looks to accommodate at least 30 people. This is very much a family run business and their understanding of the customer service and high quality food will serve this family and Mobile's dining community for a long time. They have been open now for 2 months but the experienced staff has handled the newness well. Ample safe parking. Most dinner items are in the $9-12 range and lunches are from $8-10. I personally really enjoyed the shepherd's pie as it was cooked like grandma made it. You must try the signature appetizer...conecuh sausage cheesecake...WOW. Sunday brunch is excellent and reasonable in price. I am looking forward to a return visit to Benjamin's!!

I loved this restaurant and definitely plan to return! I ordered the meatloaf cupcakes and fried apples, both of which were excellent and served in a unique way. They also had a lot of specials on drinks and food each day of the week. There were many other entrees that I would have liked to try (and hope to soon). Our service was a little slow because we had a larger party, but it was worth the wait.

Wings: 3/5 I usually don't eat breaded wings, but I tried them anyway. They were good, but I couldn't tell a difference between the two sauces I tried (buffalo bourbon and honey wasabi). The blue cheese was garbage. Conecuh cheesecake: 5/5 excellent! I liked the grilled toast. I've never had anything like this before and it's definitely the appetizer to try if you've never been here. Meatloaf cupcakes: 5/5 This is a home run. As a carnivore, this appeals to me on every level. The taters, bacon and the loaf itself were all great. Nana's early riser burger: 4/5 my lady ate this, but I took a few bites. I'm not a big fan of eggs on burgers, but it works well with the bagel "buns". I didn't taste any chorizo though? Macaroni and cheese: 5/5 not to salty and very cheesy. Good stuff. Reese's cup fried bites: 2/5 I like Reese's cups, but there are only two of them and it doesn't taste much like Reese's cups. Blah. The service started out pretty awful because the guy who served us was " just helping out" and didn't know much about the menu. Wtf? When Michael (the owner) started serving us, things got much better. He was friendly and helpful. There is a decent selection of craft beers on draft and everything is reasonably priced. We'll be back.

Light Me Up burger is fantastic. Decent place, seems to be getting off the ground. I wish them luck. The buns are like Mugshots, and the burger is better.
(5)Lauren J.
Really awesome brunch spot! I went here with my friend one Sunday morning and be both ordered a burger on a bagel and the burger patty did not have a lot of flavor, but it was still very enjoyable. I ordered the bottomless mimosas and they were great. They service was great and they kept those bottomless mimosas coming!

Great southern cooking with a unique menu.! I had a Conecuh sausage cheese cake,as a appetizer. A chicken and waffle "sammich" and a brown sugar sweet tea. The portions are huge for such a cheap price. I'm telling ya, most items are around $10.! The staff was also great the owner even came to my table to tell me and my friend thanks. No complaints, I'd go everyday if I could.
(5)Chris L.
The burger I had (light it up) was really good with lots of flavor. They have a great variety of sandwiches and burgers on the menu, many of them you won't find anywhere else.

Awesome food! Always a new culinary adventure when going to Benjamin's! One of my favorites

Oh Benjamin's! I think I'm falling in love with you after only one date! Seriously, I am craving this place. I'm craving what I ate, what the hubs ate, and things I saw on the menu we haven't even tried yet. I had the chicken and waffle sandwich, which is made with fried chicken breast between two waffles with peach pepper jelly and muenster cheese. It was delicious, but next time, I will ask them to leave off the syrup just to make it easier to eat. My co-foodie ordered the hot dogs, and I really wanted to trade with him after tasting his. They are the quarter pound Nathan's all beef hot dogs. One was covered in fantastic chili and cheese and the other came with kraut and mustard. The wings, tuna fish croissant, buffalo chicken fries, and greens and artichoke dip are all on my to-try list, along with a few other things I can't remember. The atmosphere is cool, casual and laid back. We sat in a booth, but noticed the bar would be a great place to sit in front of the tv and have drinks and apps. We had great service during lunch time. The prices were very reasonable. Benjamin's made it to the top of our favorites list after only one visit! Update: Return visits were equally impressive! The burgers are a hit with my guys, and the wings are phenomenal! We ordered two orders with the intention of taking the leftovers home, but there were none left. The reubenjamin is as close to an authentic Reuben as you'll find in the South.

Very interesting restaurant. Menu unlike other places with sandwich combinations that are fun, tasteful and unique. Parking lot poorly lit at night and contributes to difficulty in finding this location for out of towners. Interesting place, worth a try!
