We tried out The Grill a few weeks ago on sushi night. The girls and I were so excited about the possibility of a local sushi place (not having to drive to Mobile or Meridian!). The sushi was bad. Really, really bad. It was as if it had sat in the window and gotten soggy...it was like chewing gum. :( Bad food aside, the server was borderline rude and rarely checked on us. A very nice lady finally saw our entire table was unhappy and she refilled our drinks, etc. Thanks random lady who was not our server! The drinks were watered down...and if alcohol can't make the experience better..you know it's a seriously crappy restaurant. This place may serve better food/have better service during the day...don't go on sushi night!!

In Jackson, AL, I was not expecting much in the form of fine dining, so I went to the Downtown Grill with rather low expectations. The place was good, I enjoyed the buffet, which consisted mostly of your typical southern food... fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, etc... and a yummy selection of pie and other desserts. My only real complaint was with the service... the waitress seemed oblivious to all of our needs... she would walk past the table without even looking at us, often times forcing the people at the table to have to get up and take care of things themselves... like getting napkins, pouring more drinks, getting ketchup, etc... BOTTOM LINE: The best place to eat in the city of Jackson, AL.

Most of the menu is pretty good food. They have a lunch buffet also. If you get wings go with the spicy ranch. The burgers are very good. They have nightly specials that occasionally are really good. Steaks are good but it depends on who the cook is that night as to how good they are. The fried dill pickles are some of the best that I have ever eaten. Fried shrimp and crawfish tails are good also. Stay away from the fried oysters and crab claws though. It is a little pricey.

Have eaten here twice, as it seems to be the only upscale restaurant in the area. The two lunches were tasty; grilled cajun chicken salad, and the club sandwich. I will say that both items seemed to be over priced for the area, but as I said this was more than a fastfood joint. The two servers were busy... and they offer a buffet style lunch.

I come to this site periodically when in town on business. The Thursday night special is my favorite. The food is good, but the prices are a little high for the area. Since there is not much to choose from for sit down meals in town, this is a good place to eat.

The menu is very average as far as selection and exactly what you would expect in the Deep South. Fried everything. Folks patron this place for the bar. My oysters were over fried. But I have eaten here and it was good, too. This building has changed hands a lot. Jacksonians need to support their local restaurants so that they can expand their menus and improve on quality. If you don't use it you lose it.
