In town for a wedding and Yelp lured me here. Great quick and friendly service- quick with refills and an upbeat attitude. The food was great- solid diner type breakfast! Not for the health conscious necessarily but yummy and hit the spot for my husband and I this morning! We got here before 9:30am and when we left there were lots of people waiting for tables. I ordered the Blue Plate special w/ 2 eggs over easy, cheesy hash, biscuit and a side of fruit. Husband enjoyed a huge omelette, bacon, sausage, cheesy has and a biscuit. Delicious!

If you want Southern cooking like grandmother used to make, this is your place. You can't beat it!

Service was great. Good home-cooked breakfasts. We went around 9:30am on a Friday and were sat immediately but the restaurant was definitely busy with the hustle and bustle of a good diner. The friendly staff served up our coffee and meals with great suggestions and smiles. Blue plate breakfast (suggested) Very good. Cheesy hash was yummy and full of flavor. Biscuits and gravy were good. Bacon was crisp and yummy. French toast breakfast w/bacon was tasty and bacon crisp and yummy. Drink refills were speedy and preemptive.

Was in town for a LAX tournament and the wife and son wanted burgers and I was craving fried chicken. We have never been here before so Yelp pointed us to a few places but the Blue Plate Cafe was perfect. It felt just like the diners we grew up with! The food came fast and all tasted great. The white meat fried chicken had a great tasting breading and came with mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread, and the desert of the day, peach cobbler. The cheeseburgers were double patty, with lots of cheese, large steak frys that were perfectly made and came with a side plate of lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion to pile on. They both loved the burgers and left completely full. Overall, a great, place for family (they have large tables for the whole family), the food was really good and fast and priced fair ($31 for three for dinner). We will be back next time we are in town!

Note to Yelp wee need the 1/2 star option! 3 stars is too low but 4 is a bit too much for my review of the blue plate cafe at breakfast time. With the place bristling with staff the service is just below par, a bit slow and slightly confused. That said my server was very nice and she got everything right I just waited too long for everything. I sat for a good 5 to 7 minutes after ordering to get a cup of coffee. I just overheard the people in the booth complaining about the slow service and long waits. As for the food it was also good the 4 stars hold for quality but look at my photo and you tell me if that looks like 2 scrambled eggs to you. Now there was enough food because I always over order but the protein is my major deal and I think I was short changed. All in that was a 3.5 star breakfast visit which truthful is not bad so in closing I liked this place I've just had better and seem better organization. Please try it yourself but just don't be in a hurry.

Yes, yes, yes. Why my hometown of Nashville, TN doesn't have a good, greasy spoon diner like this is beyond me. I've longed for a decent breakfast place for so long and had to travel 2 hours to find it, but find it I did. It's a simple equation: friendly staff (check), basic, American breakfast fare (more on that in a minute), clean yet simple (check), reasonably priced (checkety check). Coffee = strong, good, little white cup, and frequent well-timed refills Bacon = good flavor, crisped per my needs/instructions Biscuit = light, fluffy, golden, doughy goodness Eggs = light, fluffy, and, as I walked to my car, I saw some trash out by the dumpster. The tell-tale sign of good eggs? Empty egg cartons and shells in the trash. Yes, no reconstituted, come-in-a-milk-carton eggs here. Pancakes = light, fluffy, crispy edges and chewy in the middle Breakfast potatoes = 3 choices (shredded hashbrowns, tater tots, and something with cheese) Chocolate gravy = yes, please. Here's the deal: I can get any two of these items here at a number of restaurants in Nashville. But not all at the same time and place. It's a crying shame. Blue Plate knew how to fix an over medium egg. You'd be surprised how often this gets messed up. Or, when I request crispy bacon and it's still wiggly when they bring it out. That's frustrating. I didn't want to leave this place but we had to get on with our day. If you find yourself in Huntsville and hungry for breakfast, go here. You will not be disappointed.

I brought my parents here for breakfast after reading great reviews. We got there right at 1030 but we were still allowed to order breakfast thankfully. Our server was so wonderful. He was very friendly, attentive and patient. He answered all my parents questions and didn't try to rush away. He was quick to refill waters and make sure every bite was ok. Food: the cheesy browns were awesome. Loved them and would eat a bowl of them. Sausage patties were kind of over cooked and bland. The biscuit was perfect. Gravy was alright but I've had better and the eggs were also bland but they are eggs so a little salt and pepper fixed that. My moms omelette and hash browns were great. She loved it. And my dad got pancakes w eggs and cheesy browns. He ate every bite. So all in all I would recommend coming here. Everything is homemade. I'd like to try dinner and dessert next.

Ate lunch here with my fiancee yesterday. We arrived around 11:30am, and waited about ten minutes before we were seated. We both ordered the Blue Plate Special. I went with Fried Catfish, with Mac & Cheese, green beans, and hash brown casserole for my sides. She ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, with a double portion of turnip greens and sweet potatoes for her sides. We both had the cornbread also. Food came out extremely fast, I think a bit too fast considering how packed the place was. Well, the food ranged from OK to decent, in my opinion. My fiancee ended up with a double portion of sweet potatoes instead of the double portion of turnip greens. Turned out to be a good thing though, because the turnip greens were burnt & bitter, and had grit in them. Our server Joe was very friendly, we liked him. Cashier ringing us out was all business though. A lot of great reviews for the Blue Plate Cafe, but quite frankly, I'm not seeing what the big deal is. Doubt if we'd ever come back for lunch, but I'm a big fan of breakfast, so we might very well come back for that. Will write an update if that happens.

I've gotten take out meals for my mom several times from BPC, had one or two work functions at lunchtime here, and today I had breakfast for the first time. The breakfast was really good and sitting at the counter (bar?) was comfy and efficient since I was on a tight time schedule. The waitress was sweet as pie, notifying me of the purse hooks below the counter, and offering me a to go water. The OJ was good (does OJ normally cost 2.99 per glass?) and for ~ 9.00 I got the following: 2 eggs (cooked perfectly to order), a large piece of country ham (bone in) and cheese grits. The eggs were creamy as were the grits and the ham was salty as can be expected. The food arrived right at 20 minutes after ordering. The friendly staff and smiling faces really add to a breakfast experience here. I saw my best friend's brother there, today, as I think he eats b'fast here 5 times a week. Mom also enjoys BPC, especially their cheesy hash brown casserole. As far as "down home cooking" goes, it's solid. As far as being a place I would choose to frequent, it's a little on the high caloric/fat content side - although, they may offer lighter fare, and I just overlooked it. The menu is pretty sizeable. Thank you BPC for making my Mother's Day weekend (or the Friday before) really nice. The waitress even said "happy mothers day!" How often do you get this type of friendly, sweet, sincerely pleasant service?!

Had a late lunch here on Saturday. It was all yummy. If you are looking for gourmet dishes you won't get it, but if you are looking for southern home cooking... this is the place. Daily they have a meat and 3 sides as a blue plate special. I chose the roast beef, mashed potatoes, cabbage and peas. It was a huge slice of beef with potatoes and carrots. The three sides were all seasoned well. My friend chose the turkey and dressing, it was also great. We will definitely go here again when in town. I would love to try the breakfast. The decor is diner fair and the service was prompt and friendly.

The blue plate is one of the most popular and consistently delicious places to eat southern food in the Tennessee Valley. I love this place because it's amazing for lunch dates, hungover breakfasts, and everything in between. The meat and three is a godsend. I come to eat at least once a month, and try to make it on the days they serve country fried steak (amazing) or chicken and dumplings, with a side of Mac n cheese and cornbread, of course. For breakfast, I always get a biscuit, the hash brown casserole, the cheesy grits, and any dessert they're serving. The service is great, and everyone treats you like a regular, even if you're not. The restaurant is a beautiful and authentic looking diner, and the walls are lined with historic Huntsville articles and artwork. Every visitor and resident must try this place.

We eat here often and its usually pretty busy but its well worth the wait. The time it takes to get your food out is pretty short and its always delicious and the staff is very friendly and on point.

Best lunch experience in the Huntsville area. From now I will be coming here every time I travel to Huntsville. The food was great, the service was excellent and the price was good as well. It's a hole in the wall type of restaurants but it's well worth the 3 miles you'll have to drive from Memorial Hwy. I had the plate of the day (chicken and dressing), green beans, cornbread, mashed potatoes, corn, and the coconut pie as dessert. You won't regret coming here.

After reading raving reviews and hearing people speak so highly of this "meat and 3" joint, my mom and I decided to stop by hear on our way to the hospital. I give 2 stars because the service was nice and prompt. Food on the other hand was just blah blah bland (I had a better meal at the hospital). If you are hungry and want a lot of food for under $10, this is your place. Everything tasted like it came from a can or frozen bag, and nothing was seasoned. I was really excited to try this lil cafe, but I will not be returning as I think they are catering to the jerry atric, no taste bud having clientele.

I went here last week for breakfast after reading primarily good reviews but was very disappointed. I had a pepper jack cheese and ham omelette, hashbrowns, and a biscuit with gravy. I didn't expect the omelette to have what seemed like 2 cups of cheese in and around it. Half was melted nicely inside, but the other half was just heaped on top haphazardly, and probably on the way out of the kitchen door, seeing as how it had not melted at all. The hashbrowns were wet and bland. The biscuit was bland and chewy. The gravy was thin and unremarkable... Overall a very disappointing meal, most of which never left my plate. The service was good though, and I was seated right away at 9am. I might give lunch or dinner a chance later on because of the reviews, but not for a while.

Some trips, I give this place four stars. Other meals get five. Today, five is the number. My Angus chopped steak with onions was excellent. So were the sides of fried okra and those wonderful overcooked southern green beans. (C'mon, they're GOOOOD.) The turnip greens were a little sweet for my taste, but that's my taste. My wife's pot roast was a four-star meal, but it is often better. It comes with potatoes, so no need to get potatoes as a side! ;-) The service, as usual, was very good. It's clean and a comfortable place to be. But you pay for what you get here. This isn't a two-people-get-stuffed-for thirteen-bucks-but-the-bathrooms-are-a-little-Ârasty place. Our meal was $22 with tip but without dessert. Worth it, not expensive, but not really cheap. Don't be afeared if the parking lot is full. The dadblasted thing is too small by half. Find a spot on the street (or better yet, carpool!) and go on in. Also, btw, they're opening a branch office in the old Victoria's Cafe on the south Parkway sometime in the near-ish future. Parking should be better. Go there!

Not bad, but not great. Many of the dishes taste like the ingredients come from a box or a can. "Short cut cooking" is what comes to mind. Fine to eat at if friends choose it, but I wouldn't pick it myself.

The first time I went to Blue Plate was maybe about 2 months ago I would say. I have always heard great things about it so I had to give it a shot. The first thing I was noticed was the lack of parking spaces, which is why I am not giving a 5 star review. The lack of parking can hurt your business. But I do understand that expanding does come with a big price tag. When I walked in I was greeted and sat instantly. Within seconds our Server came to our table and greeted us. He got our drink orders quickly. Once we ordered I would say it took about 6-7 minutes before our food arrived, considering it was pretty busy when I went. I ordered the blue plate special which was chicken fried steak, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and hashbrown casserole. Everything was really great. I loved how the mac was. I can't wait to be back in that area to get some more Blue Plate!

A guy I have done work for has taken me here for years. Today was the first time since I started Yelping. This place is always awesome. I like the daily choices. The main courses are always perfect and the sides are great. No wonder why there is usually a wait to get seated.

Southern food? If by southern food u mean reheated frozen food. The chicken strips were the kind u get at the grocery store, bread pudding was not made from bread. Rolls were frozen. Soggy green beans. Literally nothing tasted like it was cooked from scratch. Had great potential but fell way short.

Very popular place good thing we arrived early for lunch so didn't have to wait! Service is just lovely. Food is ample and came out fast. The green beans a bit on the salty side. Fried chicken is to die for! So juicy and tender! Will come back to try all the Southern favourites.

We stopped here for breakfast on Christmas Eve. We were sat right away with a party of 5! Excellent service. The fruit plate was delicious and fresh not frozen, pancakes (with chocolate chips) were a hit with the kids and adults! My husband and kids loved the fried bologna!

Well another successful Southern meal. As busy as this place was you would have thought it was in the middle of a city with no other restaurants around. People were lined up out the door waiting on a table. I chose a seat at the bar which was nearly full too. They have a rotating menu of 3 meat choices and several vegetable choices. The server instantly greeted me with a smile, quickly brought me my drink, and it wasn't long before I had my meal. I chose the 4 vegetable plate with green beans, black eyed peas, hash brown casserole, strawberry shortcake (you can sub one veggie for the dessert of the day), and cornbread. I initially thought the price was a little high for a veggie plate nearly $8 with tax but when I saw the amount of food I was getting I quickly changed my thoughts. I was a little disappointed in the green beans because they were under seasoned but at least they were thoroughly cooked. The black eyed peas only required a bit more seasoning but were cooked well. The hash brown casserole was a spoonful of creamy, cheesy goodness. The cornbread muffin was definitely the best cornbread that I have had at a restaurant, EVER! It was moist, fluffy, and a little buttery. I would go back just for the cornbread. The strawberry shortcake was a sweet ending to my meal. Interested in going back on another day of the week to try other things! The reason it's on my Top 100 Dishes to Try list: Black eyed peas, hashbrown casserole, and cornbread List: The BEST hashbrown casserole and cornbread I've ever had.

If you have to go out for breakfast in Huntsville, this is the best! Their Very Berry Pancakes are awesome, especially with extra whipped cream (the real stuff). If you must do hash browns, do the cheesy browns! Lunch and Dinner are pretty good as well. I really like the chicken dumplings, hash brown casserole (see a pattern?), and the banana pudding. Service is always great!

Very good breakfast food. 4 stars only because the menu was very mundane ... yet the food was anything but. There were three in my party; all left full with food on the plate. I had the very berry pancakes and they were spectacular. I would go back again and get the same thing. I imagine all their pancakes are just as great. Bacon was burnt. Friend had French toast with scrambled eggs. Home run on the toast; skip the eggs. Would definitely go back for breakfast next time I'm in the area.

The people are super friendly and efficient -- service is impeccable! The food is basically good -- nothing to write home about, in my opinion, but good. Avoid the meatloaf because the sauce they put on it is horrible -- trust me. And breakfast there I will say is VERY good -- the food, anyway --- but I've never in my life patronized a restaurant where the coffee tasted as horrific as it does here. Awful. As I love coffee with my breakfast, I end up slightly dissatisfied -- but the food is worth going. Maybe you could sneak in a large cup of Starbucks or something? :)

We eat here about every two weeks or so. Love all of the food. I've seriously never had a bad meal. Try the hash brown casserole. Other favorites of mine are chicken and dressing, dumplings, grilled chicken salad, and the burgers. This place just can't be beat. Service is always great.

Let me start off by saying that their breakfast is DELICIOUS. You CANNOT go wrong with their pancakes & cheesy browns... Also, if you are a chocolate milk lover, they fill a large glass with TruMoo instead of just giving you a carton or two. Beware, though, because there has been a few times in the past where they stopped serving breakfast a little sooner than when they were supposed to-- a little irritating when you drove 20 minutes out of your way to have their breakfast. Also, don't bother with their lunch. It's completely lackluster. Their chicken fingers taste like they were purchased in bulk from Sam's & baked/fried hours ago. Not a fan.
(4)
Andy H.
Horrible service. For the fried chicken special I requested a thigh and leg and they brought me a brest and leg. Neither the manager or waitress could tell a brest from a thigh apparently. Besides which the chicken tasted awful anyway. Apparently local inbred rednecks think this place is great but it's awful. Don't waste your money. Simply awful.

True American diner with the southern classic meat and 3. Authentic local flavor with great service. While traveling on business, a colleague and I utilized yelp to find this local gem. As frequent business travelers we are adverse to chains. We strive to find that true local flavor. We knew as soon as we saw the parking lot at 11:30 am we had made a good choice. The service was prompt and attentive. The food was even better. We both had the blue plate chicken and dumplings, but choose different sides. Neither of us left hungry, unsatisfied, or overly stuffed. We will definitely return.

Whether you have large or a small appetite this is the place to go for great food. I had the country fried steak with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole, cornbread, corn, and my girlfriend's broccoli casserole! Oh yeah and coffee;) everything was excellent.

Recommended. All the southern food you've come to love. Serves one meal at a time: BLD. Breakfast until about 10:30. Had the ham and eggs with grits. The eggs are done properly. Ham was thin but tasty. Meal came with two very good biscuits and a small bowl of gravy. Service was prompt and friendly. The somewhat limited menu seems to allow them to get the food to you in record time so the turn around time is fast. Don't be deterred by the line out front, if moves along pretty fast.

Solid food. Great value. You will not be overwhelmed or disappointed. Hard to beat this in Huntsville.

Southern done right. Simple as that. Everything I've ever had here as been a winner. Even the tea is outstanding. But you don't need me to tell you that. Drive by at any time during its hours of operation and try to find a parking spot. That's all the review you need!

Such a classic southern breakfast spot. The cheesy hash browns are definitely where it's at. A little on the greasy side but it's good in a way. Definitely the classics here. Good ole comfort food

I ate here after finding it on Yelp while visiting Huntsville. I would actually rate them 3.5 stars, but I will round up since I have only eaten there once. We did not go during peak hours, so it was not very crowded, by my in-laws did say that during peak hours it is very crowded. The food was good, but it was not as good as food that I have had at other southern food restaurants. It was not quite up to "just like grandma makes". The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend checking it out at least once.
(4)
Melissa T.
Oh great southern restaurants how I love thee, let me count the ways: hashbrowns, fresh coffee, sassy middle-aged servers, and oh! the smell... It's the smell of walls infused with bacon grease and biscuits. It's also the quaint conversations between people who have known each other's families for years and ask how so-and-so is doing that makes this place special. The food is quite good as well. ;)

Just wow. This might be the perfect form of the Southern meat 'n three. Fried squash is apparently rare, but I was lucky to be there on a day they were serving it, and I almost had to shout out loud, it was so good. Chicken and dumplings: al dente and creamy. Butterbeans: melt in your mouth. Turnip greens: plenty of likker to soak your cornbread muffin. Cornbread muffin: on the light side, not too sweet. The staff's eyes light up when they're talking about the food. Yours will, too. A couple tips: They'll let you count the dessert as a vegetable (fie on thee, Weight Watchers!), but just order it extra. Banana pudding and strawberry shortcake w real whipped cream were each perfect; the sides are too good to miss. Also, it's crowded at lunch--we heard about 10 min waits--but there was always a little space at the bar. And I don't think the crowd will be going away any time soon.

If u enjoy southern food this is your spot in Huntsville. Great food. Great cornbread. Great service from our smiling waitress that is a pk (Stacey I think). Reasonable cost. You can't go wrong here.

Pretty good food. Didn't take long, and service was nice. The biscuits are huge.

Southern breakfast! Well prepared food, good quality. The oatmeal has a great-creamy texture and the bacon is thick and perfectly crisp. The over medium eggs were a little runny though. Excellent sincere service and good prices. My wife says the bathroom floor is so clean, she felt very comfortable.

Legendary breakfast and a meat and three at lunch. Blue Plate is a place you are bound to see people you know. Well, at least we saw no less than 3 other tables of acquaintances. While you can order a sandwich or other grill item, we highly recommend the traditional "meat and three." From the world's cheesiest hashbrown casserole to perfectly golden fried okra, you can't go wrong with any of the sides-except the dessert of the day, bread pudding. It sounded great but was a nutmeg laden gelatinous disaster. Oh, and the guy who didn't get the meat and three (he got the open face sandwich) was still hungry-get the meat and three. We asked our server for a life tip. She said to "Live life to the fullest," but we think she meant "don't ask me questions, I just work here." And we think she's right.

The food was really good like grandma made it! Its really really good. My husband and I have had the omelet, pancakes which are huge french toast, cheesy hashbrowns, biscuits and sausage gravy. The service is always nice and with a smile just like what I've become accustomed to in the south. The wait wasn't bad if you show up between 6am and 7am...I don't know abt anytime after. Me and the hubby always try to make it early!
(5)

Awesome breakfast! The wait may be long, but it is definitely worth it! The service is awesome as well and everybody is really nice. Love the atmosphere of the place and we always take people here when they visit Huntsville!

Best place for the Buck. the food is delicious. My favorite was the broccoli cheese and the hash-brown casserole. All of the lunch specials are great and at a great price. You wont have trouble clearing your plate. You have to know when to show up though or you will have to spend some time waiting for a table if you have a large party or 4 or more.

Expected better. Coconut pie, rolls and chili were really good! Chicken dressing had too much vinegar and cornbread was dry. Place was packed...need more parking.

I've only eaten here at breakfast time, but it is my favorite breakfast spot in all of Huntsville. And I've tried most of them! Always wonderful service, always great food, and always prompt refills on whatever I'm drinking! Sometime I will have to try a different meal time here, but I just keep going back for the amazing breakfast!

I was in Huntsville for work, and through Yelp, found this cafe, it was about as expected for food- good southern comfort food, (my favorite) so this aspect of the visit was great, but the service was terrible, the lady who took my order never came over and refilled my tea until way after I had finished eating, and I had ran out of tea halfway through my meal! I also overheard her ask others if the wanted dessert, and told of the special, etc. but not to me, I also never got a check, had to go to the payout desk for one. It's not like I was hiding in the back, I was right by the front door. If a waitress is dependent on tips, and is working with a customer base of old-school rednecks, you need to really be on your game, as that charm and smile stopped becoming important to is about 10 years ago, we want our drinks full and our tickets to us so we can go home. Like I said, good food, good atmosphere, but sorry wait staff was A real downer for the whole experience.

Good ol' Southern cookin'. If you're looking for a good meat and three, this is your place. On my visit, I got the chicken and dressing (which tasted very similar to my grandma's which means it was amazing), turnip greens (buttery yet delicious), black eyed peas (dry and not much flavor), fired okra (perfectly crispy but a little soggy), and cornbread (a little dry but still pretty good). This meal made the southerner in me smile.

"Would you like water to-go?" Water to-go? I think I saw customers walking out with coffee to-go, as well. Now that's service! The owner walked around and said hi to everyone and knew the regulars by name. The hash browns were thick, so there was more soft potato goodness rather than crispy edges. Biscuits were freshly baked, and the gravy was peppery rather than salty. The sausage patties weren't the best - a bit overdone. The syrup was kept warm before the pancakes arrived. At $10 for a hearty breakfast, coffee, tax + tip, and unbeatable service, there's really no reason to go to chain diners ever.

Really Great home cooking. I am from Louisiana, and I travel to Huntsville about twice a year. I make sure I eat at Blue Plate each time I visit Huntsville. Its all good, but the Pot Roast and the Peach Cobbler is the best I have ever tasted.

I was scared of this place just based on its locale. Not sure why it's in a somewhat creepy part of town, but now that I've been I intend to go again. I went for breakfast this morning to meet a man from church, and it was good. There was a good crowd, and it seemed like a lot of people are locals there. Some day I may be like that, too, but for now I'm too young and too poor! That being said, I did enjoy my food. I had the biscuit and gravy Blue Plate Breakfast with hash browns and scrambled eggs. I had to work, so I didn't tempt the empty space where once I had a gallbladder with any thoughts of breakfast meats. If I go back on a Saturday I will put a big hurt on some breakfast meats, though. Mostly what this made me want to do was to try their "meat and three" as I keep hearing it called. I find it hard to believe that it could be even close to as good as Dot's out near Courtland, but I would be willing to try. Price was very reasonable and the food was good and the atmosphere was very inviting, so I gave it four stars. Perhaps once I've had the breakfast meat I'll bump it up a star!

Cute place. Food was a long, long, long time coming. When it did finally arrive it was just OK. Not good, not great, just OK. There must be better somewhere in Huntsville. Oh, parking is almost impossible.

Blueberry Pancakes! (with REAL, FRESH blueberries) Serving size large enough for hubby and I to share. Good service - like to see college students all working hard and providing fast, friendly service.

This is a good place for a down home breakfast. Maybe for lunch as well. I would suspect it is. The food here is basic and very good. Its very popular we were there ar 9 and it was packed on a Tuesday morning. Everything was good. Nothing exceptional.

The lunch is standard southern meat-and-three. I'm going to talk breakfast. Great pancakes, french toast, omelets. I recommend the chocolate chiquita pancakes (semisweet chips and banana slices). The cheesy browns are good, and they know how to cook an egg. You won't need lunch after eating here. Come early on Saturday, it gets crazy around the time they switch to lunch and you can expect to wait.

NEW HOURS - Dinner now available until 8pm. We stopped by Wednesday night for dinner to check it out. As with lunch you can get the daily special meat +3 veggies (sub 1 veggie for dessert of the day). Price for dinner was around $9. The tables were clean and our server (Stevester) was excellent! He answered all my questions about the veg of the day, dessert of the day, etc. He came back several times to check on us and refill drinks. This is the old diner style I grew up eating at - Meat & Veggies, simple southern fare. This Wed night I chose Country Fried Steak with some of the best white gravy I have had in a long time; Grilled Squash (almost like a casserole) and my 2nd favorite item I ate that night, Mac & Cheese (how hum and needed salt) and Hasbrown Casserole (was more like fried potato casserole to me, not to my liking). Everything tasted good. I ate all my squash and Country Fried Steak which pretty much filled me up. My husband had the Chicken & Dumplings, Corn, Grilled Squash Casserole and opted for Banana pudding as a sub for 1 of his veggies. He too got full and we brought hasbrown casserole and banana pudding home. He did eat the Banana Pudding later. He commented that the Grilled Squash Casserole was his favorite thing that night. As a side note for Southern Food in North Alabama - best Chicken & Dumplins we have ever had (beside homemade and Craker Barrel) is at Country Boy's in Florence, AL. If you are ever that way you must try them. Best Chicken & Dressing (Thur night only) at Momma Jean's in Muscle Shoals off Alt Hwy 72 (coming from Decatur) their Meat & Veggies dinner is under $6 which is a bargain in my book. Be sure to visit the Blue Plate for Dinner or better yet grap a To Go Menu and keep it on-hand for a quick take-home dinner.

I enjoy Blue Plate and it's worth the wait...though foods can be variable. Recently: I'd have to say the open-face roast beef sandwich could have used a little more...ummm...ROAST BEEF. One little slice on "light bread" doesn't make it. And my dining companion's chicken-and-dumplings had ONE hunk of chicken in it. "Dumplings with Scattered Chicken Shard" would be more accurate. That being said, service was good, including offering us a take-home tea. One other thing, though...chop the celery on the house salad. Who wants to dig into blue cheese dressing and pull up an entire, bowl-sized STALK? This ain't no crudite display, and I don't eat house salads with a knife.

We were visiting Huntsville from Massachusetts and looked on Yelp and found this restaurant. We found all the reviews of this restaurant to be accurate. We had lunch here and had to go back and try breakfast. It is a great southern place to go and we enjoyed both visits. The food was delicious. My eggs were cooked perfectly as ordered. The cheesy browns and hash brown casserole was delicious. The biscuits and gravy were so good and not typically food we eat in Massachusetts. Also the chicken and dressing was also great. I wasn't brave enough to try the grits.....maybe next time:-). The service was friendly and quick.

I love to cook and I marvel at their food, how do they make it so good? Go on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday for pot roast but honestly everything is fantastic. It is some of the best food I've eaten anywhere. The only hang up is parking.

Nice people, hot coffee. Go on a Saturday and get a cocoa biscuit. Hot, buttered, smothered in chocolate sauce. Sit at the counter and talk to locals. Great down-home place. Breakfast was $12 for a three egg omelet, cheesy browns, coffee, and the aforementioned biscuits.

Love this place! Have never got bad food from here, ever. I love to go on Saturdays and get their chicken and dressing, broccoli and cheese casserole, hash brown casserole, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, and cornbread. Can;t beat their southern food. They have good quick service, and the food is never lacking that great flavor. Only wished they stayed open later , for dinner service. Would love to eat dinner there , so on Saturday's that I have to work past 2, I could still run buy and get me a good plate of food!

You have to love a place that labels Hashbrown Casserole as a vegetable dish! I had the chicken fried steak, corn, hashbrown casserole, and cole slaw. Tasted great! And it was only $6.99

Southern comfort food at its finest. Breakfast is especially great. The hashbrown casserole will knock your socks off.

For the price, this was awesome. I loved the steak fries and burgers. Open faced roast beef was very good also. I can't wait to go back and try more. A lot of the restaurants have gone up in price so much, but the Blue Plate Cafe is incredibly reasonable and delicious. If you haven't tried it yet, you should.

Blue Plate serves up a classic meat & three as well as a pretty darn tasty breakfast. They open at 6 a.m. (I think) and close at 2 p.m. (I know) Monday through Saturday. There's usually a wait at lunch although they do have counter seating that's usually available (and they put hooks under the counter to solve the "what should I do with my purse" counter seating dilemma). They have excellent cheesy browns/hash brown casserole and their meatloaf definitely gets a thumbs up as well. The veggies are usually cooked within an inch of their lives and (to the glee of children everywhere) the dessert of the day counts as a veggie for the meat and three.

We were in Huntsville for business, and stumpled upon te Blue Plate Cafe for breakfast and it exceeded expectations. Good food, affordable price, southern diner atmosphere. Top notch!

By far the best breakfast in H-ville. The cheese browns are amazing. And the big blue plate is a real deal. The only down-side is that the place is always packed; sometimes it's hard to find parking. The Blue Plate also offers a great lunch special. Chicken and dumplings are offered m-w-f. Although I haven't had them, I'm willing to bet they're at least on par with Cracker Barrel.

Best breakfast in town. Always crowded, in a good way........fast service, good service, great breakfast, TVs on to be able to watch the morning news. Only a bfast and lunch place. Lunch is good too....more meat and 3

Sweet tea ,cheesy browns/hash brown casserole, Country fried steak with o ton of gravy !! This place is where my Italian ass feel in love with southern food! Fried pork chops, and the corn.. Did I mention the sweet tea? I want to come to you on a plane now!... Am glad I moved Though this is some serious food for your soul fix..And I would have to be friends with Jenny Craig to help combat my love for you.

This is a place my family has frequented, mostly because my parents love the good southern cooking. The wait staff are exceptionally polite, and although you usually have to wait at lunch time, they are very quick to get you in. Great breakfast, too.

This place is OK. I haven't been here for breakfast, though after reading the reviews I may have to go, but lunch is meh. Boiled vegetables, institution macaroni and cheese (the stuff that is baked in the foil pan it came in), and OK meats. It is cheap as hell though. If you want to get something to eat but you're not trying to pay a lot for it - this is a good place to be. It's not the best food in the world like some of these reviews read... to me anyways. Maybe I just went on a bad day?

Just moved here & had lunch today. YUM! Good food, fast & super friendly service. Previous review mentioned Sheree as a great waitress. She just happened to be our waitress today & she is fabulous! LUV!

Breakfast was very tasty.... There was a small wait but it was definitely worth it..

(5)Stephanie N.
We eat here often and its usually pretty busy but its well worth the wait. The time it takes to get your food out is pretty short and its always delicious and the staff is very friendly and on point.
(5)Peter J.
Descent diner but not sure what the draw is. Service was good but the food was average and not worth fighting the crowd.
(3)Jose V.
(5)Nastay N.
(2)C L.
(2)K L J.
Go there!
(5)Eric S.
Coffee was good. Food was pretty good. Service was terrible. I'd be willing to give it another try.
(3)Constance S.
Not bad, but not great. Many of the dishes taste like the ingredients come from a box or a can. "Short cut cooking" is what comes to mind. Fine to eat at if friends choose it, but I wouldn't pick it myself.
(2)Jeremy T.
(4)Mikee R.
A guy I have done work for has taken me here for years. Today was the first time since I started Yelping. This place is always awesome. I like the daily choices. The main courses are always perfect and the sides are great. No wonder why there is usually a wait to get seated.
(5)Henry H.
(1)Phoenix C.
Very popular place good thing we arrived early for lunch so didn't have to wait! Service is just lovely. Food is ample and came out fast. The green beans a bit on the salty side. Fried chicken is to die for! So juicy and tender! Will come back to try all the Southern favourites.
(4)Julie G.
We stopped here for breakfast on Christmas Eve. We were sat right away with a party of 5! Excellent service. The fruit plate was delicious and fresh not frozen, pancakes (with chocolate chips) were a hit with the kids and adults! My husband and kids loved the fried bologna!
(5)Ashley M.
(4)Megan D.
(5)Kenneth R.
(4)John F.
(4)Wendy L.
We eat here about every two weeks or so. Love all of the food. I've seriously never had a bad meal. Try the hash brown casserole. Other favorites of mine are chicken and dressing, dumplings, grilled chicken salad, and the burgers. This place just can't be beat. Service is always great.
(5)Emily F.
Not a fan.
(4)Andy H.
(1)MaryL B.
Great food and service. We had breakfast. The cheesy potatoes are a must. Staff was outstanding. I would go back... Again and again.
(5)Tim C.
(5)Bryan T.
Whether you have large or a small appetite this is the place to go for great food. I had the country fried steak with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole, cornbread, corn, and my girlfriend's broccoli casserole! Oh yeah and coffee;) everything was excellent.
(5)Wayne W.
(4)Brian L.
Solid food. Great value. You will not be overwhelmed or disappointed. Hard to beat this in Huntsville.
(3)Dan D.
Southern done right. Simple as that. Everything I've ever had here as been a winner. Even the tea is outstanding. But you don't need me to tell you that. Drive by at any time during its hours of operation and try to find a parking spot. That's all the review you need!
(5)Jon Z.
Breakfast stops at 10:30 and there is no "brunch" menu, but very clean place, and a very friendly staff.
(4)Susan F.
Service is always great , we sit at the bar top. Love the cheesy browns! This is the best breakfast place in Huntsville!
(5)Ava H.
Such a classic southern breakfast spot. The cheesy hash browns are definitely where it's at. A little on the greasy side but it's good in a way. Definitely the classics here. Good ole comfort food
(3)Kelly M.
(4)Melissa T.
The food is quite good as well. ;)
(4)Lauren W.

(5)Frodo B.

(5)Brad R.

This is the perfect place for a quick lunch at a good price.

(4)Leo B.
What a great place for breakfast. Fast service and excellent food. Cheesy browns are not to be missed.
(5)Aimee W.
If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. Food is great and the portions are big.

(2)Ellen J.
Blueberry Pancakes! (with REAL, FRESH blueberries) Serving size large enough for hubby and I to share. Good service - like to see college students all working hard and providing fast, friendly service.
(4)Dennis U.
This is a good place for a down home breakfast. Maybe for lunch as well. I would suspect it is. The food here is basic and very good. Its very popular we were there ar 9 and it was packed on a Tuesday morning. Everything was good. Nothing exceptional.
(3)D D.

(5)Carmen S.

(5)Ken W.
You have to love a place that labels Hashbrown Casserole as a vegetable dish! I had the chicken fried steak, corn, hashbrown casserole, and cole slaw. Tasted great! And it was only $6.99
(4)David P.
Southern comfort food at its finest. Breakfast is especially great. The hashbrown casserole will knock your socks off.
(5)Karri T.
(5)Jenny P.

Top notch!
(4)D. M.
best place in huntsville for a meat and 3! best place in huntsville for country breakfast. best service in huntsville! friendliest staff in huntsville! best place to run into your elementary school teacher! best place to see your pastor during lunch! best place to get nanna puddin, peach cobbler, and bread puddin!! LOVE IT!! GO GET IT NOW!! THEY CLOSE DAILY AT 2PM!!
(5)Darren C.
Disappointing. Instant potatoes was a shock. I expect better souther cooking when in the south...
(2)Bobby H.
Been there three times in two months. That's quite a recommendation coming from me!
(5)Vince L.
(4)Mark S.
Best breakfast in town. Always crowded, in a good way........fast service, good service, great breakfast, TVs on to be able to watch the morning news. Only a bfast and lunch place. Lunch is good too....more meat and 3
(5)belinda m.
(5)Dana F.
This is a place my family has frequented, mostly because my parents love the good southern cooking. The wait staff are exceptionally polite, and although you usually have to wait at lunch time, they are very quick to get you in. Great breakfast, too.
(5)Justin A.
(3)Shawn C.
Service = great and quick. Food = tasty. Price = cheap. Parking = not enough for the restaurant capacity.
