You like soul food? Damn right you do. Are you in Huntsville? Well get your ass on down to Betty Maes! This is what you can define as home cooked SOUL FOOD. The service is home grown, the food is homely, and the people here treat you like family. Tania (not sure if I spelled her name correctly) is the owner of Betty Maes and she was so damn kind to our team. The food was outstanding, the service was awesome, and the atmosphere made me feel that this was REAL southern hospitality. Their menu is a bit complex at first, but you're allowed one meat option, two vegetable options, one dessert option, and one drink. The total is like 12 bucks MAX. The fried chicken can either be ordered in dark or white meat. But who in their right mind picks white meat over dark meat anyways? Crazy folks I tell ya!!! I ordered the collard greens, and the Mac-n-cheese as my other vegetable (LOL only in the south is Mac-n-cheese considered a vegetable!!) and they were phenomenal! The collard greens were really crunchy, but still dispelled a lot of that juiciness that we all love about collard greens. And the Mac? Oh cmon do I need to tell you how awesome it it?! Just try it! For my dessert I decided to go with the banana bread pudding.. Oh god. Just. Stop. Now. It was amazing dude. And I flushed it all down with their cherry drink. I highly recommend anyone who has a thing for true southern food, I would tell them to go to Betty Maes! Truly awesome food and very kind people. I will definitely return when I'm back in Huntsville!

This is my first time at Betty Mae's. Definitely some of the best soul food I've ever had! Five stars, for sure!

Food here is really outstanding. Straight forward home style cooking. Fried chicken is crispy and super juicy, turnip greens almost have a tea like flavor to them, very tasty. Mashes potatoes with gravy are just thick enough. All this and a drink for $7.99. What a great deal

I order from Betty Mae's about twice a week via Grubsouth, almost always choosing the vegetable plate and Kool-Aid. I would give A's to the cabbage, mac and cheese, potato salad, field peas, glazed sweet potatoes, Kool-Aid, chocolate cake, Honeybun cake, and corn bread. I took away one star because almost all the meats are fried. I wish the restaurant were open for supper and on Saturdays, but I have to respect the owner's choice.

Absolutely the real deal. I recommend going for lunch because they have a special that lets you choose a meat, two sides, a drink, and dessert for just over $7. The service is great and the food is fantastic. The place looks like a house and the parking is limited, but you won't be disappointed with anything else.

Delicious and the staff is sooooo friendly! I loved everything. I also like knowing that if you order anything that's suppose to be fried, it's made fresh. Only bad thing is it's piping hot when you try to eat it. Didn't stop me lol. Really awesome food!

I had the fried chicken, collards, and yams - all were amazing bu tthe collards werer out of this world good! The coworker also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Both plates were cleaned! I highly highly highly recommend giving this spot a try...it is a hidden gem!

Best soul food in Huntsville hands down. 2nd day in a row here to get food. Seasoned to perfection. Wish they were open for dinner.

We will definitely visit again.

Living in the south, one has many options for souther comfort food, but none do the trick or justice like Betty Mae's. The fried chicken and catfish are by far the best on the menu as far as the meats go; delicious flavor, juicy, not greasy, and cooked to order. The red velvet is the best in the area; no argument there. If you're trying to eat a little lighter, go for the vegetable platter; it's flavorful without being salty or buttery. This establishment is a definitive recommendation for anyone passing through or living in Huntsville. Staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. The appearance of the restaurant is what you would expect from a whole in the wall restaurant; no fancy furniture or eccentric indoor decorating, but who cares? They do keep it clean and friendly. Eat up folks!

They have the best red velvet cake in town! Great customer service!

Comfort food is not hard to find anywhere in Alabama, and I've had my fair share, but if you are looking for good, better-than-your-mama's southern cooking, this is the place to go. I had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra, mac n cheese, and cornbread. I also tried the speckled butter beans, which I will be getting next time. I'll honestly say it was the best fried chicken I have ever had. It was super crispy but also 'light'. The meat was plentiful and the pieces were huge. Parking is sparse. The place was pretty busy but they were still very speedy and extremely polite. Also, for the large portion sizes, including drink, the price is fantastic.

I had fried "dark meat" chicken. FLAVOR! The light crust was seasoned lively, chicken cooked to moist and tender (why do people eat white meat anyway?). I had fried corn. What is that? Hard to say, but it was saucy good kernels. Fried okra I like, but not with a better crust so thick. Why on earth to people eat fried chicken at chains? Simple. Nobody knows how to do this, including the chains (who don't care about doing you right).

Top notch southern comfort food!!!!!!!!!! Get the fried. Pork chop, tilapia, or roasted turkey leg!!

Soooo good! My family and I went for lunch today and it was delicious! I had the fried chicken, Mac and cheese and green beans. My husband had the fried catfish and loved it. And you can't beat the southern hospitality...the owner and everyone else that worked there was super friendly!

Basically good. Had fried pork chop. Great flavor but the flimsy plastic knife was incapable of cutting the chop. Also had the red velvet cake. Was excellent, but did not expect it to be served in a Dixie cup. Cake serving was a bit small.

Hands down, the best Southern cooking I've had outside of my grandmother's kitchen. You get an honest to God good meal that will not only satisfy your hunger but effortlessly appeals to the taste buds as well. You may have to eat your meal with plastic utensils from a takeout box, but that's a small sacrifice you'll be more than willing to make. I recommend the fried catfish and fried pork chops; the cornbread is a need to eat as well.
