Very good food I usually get the J O Platter which comes with fried fish, shrimp and oysters, fries and a small sample of cole slaw.

Great happy hour FOOD specials! Drink specials are great too but when your on business and alcohol is not an option it's nice to be able to munch great food and unwind. I just moved to the area but rest assured I will be here often. This is a cool place for kids as well and the deck seems to have a very southern feel to it.

Had lunch here today. We started with the oyster sampler... it was wonderful. I would go back just for this. We also had the lunch portions of rice & beans and shrimp & grits. The rice & beans were ok, but shrimp & grits were yummy!!! I'm giving a 5 star for oysters and shrimp & grits and a 3 for the rice & beans, so 4 stars overall. The server was super attentive, if not a little overly much, but very friendly and helped make some great suggestions.

I'm a California girl that loves oysters .. I wanted some oysters and boy did I get them.. I had the oyster platter it was around $22 for 16 and they were fresh and wonderful !! My only pet peeve is there was a description that said it had shrimp and crab in a Parmesan sauce well no shrimp or crab pieces at all but it was still yummy! The customer service was excellent I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood ..

Meeh i think the part that took it from 4 to 3 stars was our weird waitress Krystal she was loopy. Forgot stuff every time she came. She knew she was off because twice she told us she left her brain at home lol. Our food was fast and hot. Crab soup salty for me and i usually love salt. Crackers stale. Beer cold. It was pretty empty in there for a summer night suprisingly slow.... Nice view and everyone was friendly.. Oh and the fried fish is called Pacific Swaheli???? I need to google that one...

We have been eating here off and on for several years. Seems like the quality of the meals has been declining lately. Last month, the fish in the fish tacos was undercooked. Last night, the shrimp in my husband's popcorn shrimp had a strange taste - like they had been cooked with another type of fish. We are really hoping for improvement soon as we are loyal customers, love seafood, and want to continue to come here and bring friends and family.

Had a great time here, if you go ask for Tasha. Very personable and the restaurant had a homey feel. We only went for oysters. we had the oysters raw and the sampler the best was raw and chargrilled would definitely go again

Service was okay but my steak was way overcooked and that's saying a lot because I like my steak medium well and in this case I could barely chew it so I snuck food off my kids plate and let's just say we left that place hungry nothing but his fries and my broccoli were edible the sweet tea tasted like a cup of sugar water that wasn't pleasant at all either but like I said the service was good so they have that going for them.

This place is great. We had good timing with a late lunch/early dinner@3:30 and they were not busy. Kayla was wonderful. She was familiar with the menu and pleasantly welcoming. Buffalo shrimp, Grouper, Crab cakes, Fried green tomatoes...(i said lunch and dinner) Everything was wonderful and our tea glass was never empty. The cole slaw is remarkably light...wish we had one in Chattanooga!! Hint Hint...

The oyster sampler is to die for! Three different kinds of baked oysters on a tray, absolute perfection! The raw oysters are great as well. Bacon wrapped shrimp or one of our favorites. The location is great as well, right on Lake Guntersville, so you can sit on the screened in porch in the spring and summer and look right out at the lake. It's divine!

This restaurant saved me from having a pretty dismal 3 day business trip to Alabama, and for that reason it needs to get 5 stars. It rained unceasingly the whole time, so after a hard day at work it was great to walk across my hotel parking lot, and sit at the bar and eat/drink. All three nights I was there Caitlyn (I think that's right) was behind the bar. She was very attentive, and I can tell she makes a point to try to brighten the day of anyone who sits down at her bar! Over the three times I was there, I ordered a couple dozen raw oysters, entrees, appetizers, etc. Everything was great especially the oysters and the buffalo shrimp. Great place.

We love Wintzell's. Their fish basket with fries or onion rings is so good. Fish tacos is great too, however they come with grilled fish. I always order them with the same fried fish that is in the basket....perfect. Great oysters too.

My first memory of Wentzell's was in the early 60s,in Mobile where my parents took me for lunch. My memory is a bit foggy but I do remember it being crowded and bustling, with lots of people eating and smoking and having a good time. I also remember a heaping plate of the penultimate fried seafood I'd ever had. That has stuck with me all these years later. So it was with great happiness when I found that Guntersville, Al. had Wintzell's there. My mom and sis and my cousin Diane, who lives there all went to fill our bellies and souls with seafood. The place was hopping but not crowded yet and we put our orders in quicker than a Blue crab can scuttle away from predators. I only had fried oysters growing up but I love raw ones and so ordered a dozen for $8.99. Now my favorite place is the Anchor Oyster Bar in San Francisco because they have 4-5 different kinds on the menu. These oysters at Wintzell's didn't have the briney, ocean taste I'm used to but they were plump and fresh and soon history. Hunger and nostalgia still gnawed at me so I got the $15.99 fried oyster dinner complete with evenly fried okra, hush puppies and slaw. It was a Proustian moment indeed; the memories of my first visit, my first bite of perfectly fried oyster flooded over me and I would have wept for joy if I had not been so focused on cleaning my plate. My kinfolk's plates all looked scrumptious too and there wasn't much talking going on for the next 25-30 minutes. Alas, I could not continue on to dessert..no room for key line pie nor home made bread pudding. And I will probably never eat a record 250 raw oysters in a sitting like some woman did. But I had relived a pleasant childhood memory and for that I was greatful. I hope everyone else wil too!

Great seafood and great service. For lunch, you cannot go wrong with the Jr. J.O. platter. Buffalo shrimp are excellent. Cream of Crab soup is rich and creamy. They have the best onion rings around.

Stayed in Guntersville back in May for golf trip. Went to Wintzell's the first night out with a group of eight guys. It was a Wednesday night around 8:30. The wait staff sat us down and immediately told us we need to order because they are closing at nine. We had to order two drinks right away if we wanted to have something before our meal and with it. Got to say the food was pretty average, mostly fried stuff. The service was the pits! If you want to close then don't sit us. If you are going to sit us then properly serve us. They had seven guys who were starting their big trip and just beginning to get their drink on. They blew at least a $400 bar bill by rushing us out. It was not just the waiters as the manager that evening was rushing us out too. I would understand if we were loud and obnoxious(that came later in the trip see review for the Rock Eatery) but we had all just arrived.

When I'm in the mood for some oysters, this is the place I go. Even when I'm out on Lake Guntersville. They have docks right next to the building where you cal pull up to and walk up to the restaurant. Very cool! This inside is what I would call a "party" place. It is very fun inside with all kinds of crazy pictures and sayings written all over the walls. The bar area also mixes in with parts of the restaurant. Not a place to go if you're looking for a nice quite place to eat! And what is even more surprising is that they have dollar beer happy hour. Which is cheap considering most of the area is dry and alcohol is highly taxed. Every time I go there, I get a dozen raw oysters as an appetizer. I forgot to ask where they are getting them from now, but they used to get them from the gulf before the oil spill. And they had half price happy hour prices for these. But now they are getting them elsewhere and can't charge half price. My next course is usually the stuffed shrimp. How much better can it get than shrimp stuffed with crab? Well, maybe throw a filet mignon in there with it and they got that too! This is a great place to go if you are looking for a some fun and to eat some really hearty comfort (sea)food.

My husband and I were lured in by the advertised happy hour where the special consisted of 1/2 price oysters and $1 beer. My husband said the oysters were good and I ended up ordering a different beer since the special was for pabst blue ribbon. We got to sit out in the enclosed outdoor area which overlooked a small part of the lake the atmosphere was nice. I ordered stuffed shrimp which came with a choice of 2 sides I chose cheesy grits and a house salad (14.99). My husband ordered the sampler of different baked oysters (17.99). He enjoyed his and had no complaints. Mine on the other hand was just ok. I am the type of person who always adds salt to their food but let me tell you this one needed no salt in fact it was too salty. The shrimp were small and the stuffing was very bready. The grits were grits. On the good side the salad was fresh and the croutons were good quality not dry and too crunchy. The service was horrible our waitress kept ignoring us it was pretty clear happy hour is get em in and get em out. We ended up spending about $60 bucks not including tip. We probably wont go back.
