We had been told by a trusted friend how good the food was so we decided to give it a try even with the sour reviews. Idk what others had experienced but our visit was a good one. The restaurant was clean (tables, floors & restrooms). The waitress was quick to show up, returned often (we had no clue what we wanted to eat) and delivered our food within 15 mins when we finally ordered. The manager made a point to visit with the patrons and seemed to listen to what was being said. The menu didn't appear to be "great" and if the food was anything like the menu displayed we would not return. Well....... The FOOD WAS FANTASTIC...! I grew up in Pensacola, FL and have lived on the Mississippi gulf coast for 20+ years so have had my share of seafood!!!!!!!! We had the tuna #33 and the Caribbean shrimp platter both were better than expected (nothing short of freakin fantastic). We were in aw at how good the tuna and the shrimp were. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

WORST RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!! The owners are the most distasteful people I have ever encountered... The food is absolute garbage and I'm not even kidding!! Fried food is all rubber and frozen... Spilled drinks everywhere, bugs running all over the floor, and dirty bathrooms!! I truly can't believe a place like this is still in business. They should be SHUT DOWN!!!! A lady fell outside on the crappy deck and the owner did NOTHING to help her. If you think to go here TURN AROUND AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(1)Patrick H.
With zero respect due or less. The owner imports eastern block staff. I'd bet your paycheck he boils his prime ribs. I left the dang thang there. I'd recommend avoiding this place at all costs. I'm sure this review will get flagged because yelp is all bout PC and being nice but real is real.

Awesome place for shrimp and ribs!! The shrimp are steamed to perfection and seasoned just right. You can get normal shrimp or Red's Royal shrimp, but beware the Red's Royal comes with the heads still on! The ribs were fall off the bone yummy! A sweet wet sauce was just right after being in the sun all day. I highly recommend eating here.
(5)Ana M.
Truly horrible food! Very overpriced and tastes awful. I had the patty melt, heaven forbid I expected to get a traditional patty melt. Nope, I was brought a hamburger patty with melted cheese on top. Waitress apologized and said she got complaints a lot. Never again!!
(1)Linda B.
Place is nice inside but the service was terrible. We had to remind the waitress To bring out drinks. We ordered Reds & Ribs. Reds were good ribs cold along with corn was cold. We will not return should have listen to the reviews. Also very few customers a sign it is not good.
(1)Bradley R.
Had the crawdad tail poboy. Tails tasted muddy. Some looked like they still had the poo vein in. Hush puppies where ok. Fries were good but I've had them before from other places that buy in the same ones.

RETIREMENT HOME FOOD, DO NOT GO! I ordered the seafood platter, every thing was from frozen bulk bags from Sam's Club. Mushy & flavorless, anyone could have made this with bags of frozen/pre-made seafood feom Sam's Club and probably done a better job. The menu was so bad that my girlfriend only felt safe to order a basic patty melt, expecting the classic burger with sauteed onions- how could they possibly screw that up? They did, badly. My girlfriend only got a beef patty with a slice of orange processed cheese: no onions, no lettuce, no tomato, NO BUN, nothing that is expected at any typical restaurant when you order a patty melt. She complained to the waitress who said "Yeah, sorry thats how it comes." This place thrives on thrifty tourists who dont mind garbage food as long as it's cheap, offering free ice tea or coffee with certain meals to further lure in extremely cheap tourists. There is only one tiny section of their 8 page menu devoted to ribs (which are in the title of the restaurant name), I would not bother with or trust their barbecue PERIOD. If you are here on vacation, please please please do not ruin it by eating at this microwave slop house. There are plenty of other restaurants with great food and a better view of the beach. Did I mention we paid $60+ for 2 bunless burgers and an oil soaked fried seafood platter? With the poorest beer selection on the city? Avoid at all costs.

Really good lunch specials! Great view and nice cold beer. Friendly staff and great service.

Ribs & Reds defines southern hospitality! "Reds" refers to an indigenous deep-water species known as Royal Red Shrimp, a local favorite. Walking around on one of those perfect vacation days with no schedule, I went in for "just a quick beer." The staff were so nice I stayed and killed half a day here drinking "red beers" and eventually called my wife to join me for dinner. She was impressed too. We had great drinks and decent enjoyable seafood in a quaint beachy atmosphere with prompt polite service. Seems that there was something suspect about the ribs, so I ate seafood instead. (I only eat baby back ribs that are smoked on site, so something turned me to seafood.) I'll most likely come back during our annual beach trip.

This food was absolutely positively the worst food I have ever had at a restaurant. The shrimp were very gross, and incredibly hard to peel. My ribs were ice cold. On top of it all this "fine" establishment has given me food poison. I have been in the bathroom all day puking. This restaurant is an absolute disgrace to gulf coast seafood.
(1)Kim E.
Got the grilled tuna, steamed vegetables and rice ..... Terrible! Nothing on my plate was prepared well. My husband got the ribs and enjoyed those. We'll definitely not eat here again or recommend it to anyone.
(1)Daniel A.
I can't remember the last time I had a meal that was so bad. I had the surf and turf. The steak was over cooked and the shrimp was undercooked. The baked potato tasted like it had been cooking for days. Our server was really nice and did a great job. Also it's the first time I've been to restaurant in a tourist town that doesn't accept American Express.

Great place to eat. The prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is comfortable and fum The service is great. The owner is the featured entertainment .
(4)Lacey D.
Seafood platter was great! Rib fell off the bone and were vey good. Awesome service and my child loved her cheeseburger
(5)Kelsey K.
Service is good but food is terrible quality. Frozen fish, rice was crunchy, steak was rubbery and "steamed veggies" were like the walmart frozen veggie bags. Not impressed at all for 16-20 $ a plate.

The half rack ribs and seafood platter was more than enough for two. This place was sort of generic like most of the restaurants on the Gulf Shores. Decent seafood. There are better places with beach or lake views there though.
(3)Brian C.
Solid and fairly typical beach restaurant. Consistently good food year after year. The reds are a bit saltier than I prefer but they are good. Typically great service.
(4)Barry M.
Our party ordered fried oysters & fried mushrooms for appetizers and both were good. For entrees our party ordered the ahi tuna, whitefish, chicken breast and the fried fish basket. The Ahi Tuna was really good. I would go back for the Tuna alone. The whitefish was also very good. The chicken breast was also good and the fried fish basket was average. The service was very attentive (a rare 20%er tip). The ambience reminded me of Crabby Bills in St. Petersburg FL. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised based on the other Yelp reviews.
(3)David J.
ROACHES!!! need i say more? I will anyway...the manager/owner couldn't care less that there was a roach on the wall by our table and another on the tablecloth OF our table. Offered nothing to compensate. Disgusting!!!!
(1)Carol K.
Pork chops. Yes. Pork chops are a must! And pet friendly dinning.

"I would say the worst food in gulf shores and maybe ever... There was one other table and the staff were standing around the tv... Watching wheel of fortune... I almost went over to ask why no greeting or service... The food was horrible ... It doesn't even matter what it was... Both meals we left on plate and waiter didn't ask if there was a problem...We will not go back and since have heard from locals... We should have asked for a reference for this place..." Every time we drive past, there are no cars....dont know why they are still in business.
(1)Danielle A.
I will say the Reds were good. If that's all I wanted, I might go there. The service was good too, our gal was friendly and attentive. But my fried oyster po-boy....ugh. I actually spit it out. The texture of the oyster was so wrong! Now I know why they only had 2 tables seated at 12:45 in the afternoon. Their food needs some serious help.
(1)Nate H.
Why can't you give a half star??? My recent dinner at ribs & reds was shared by myself and my family of seven. To start our dinner we ordered a round of sweet tea to our surprise was a weak, hardly sweet drink at all. Clearly the they don't grasp the concept of a souther state of mind. We ordered several dishes from gumbo, grilled tuna, pulled pork, and even there main course ribs and reds. (is your mouth watering?) Around the table complete bad reviews after a 45min wait to receive our food. Tasteless gumbo and pork, heated up frozen tuna, and over cooked reds, undercooked ribs. The cherry on top being potato salad( a southern regular) absolutely killing my appetite with one bite. Are we not still in the south? I would love to say we had at least a finically respectful meal but $20 a plate is steep for bad food, at the beach or not. I would declare this the deep south, yet we left mostly hungry with a appetite for southern BBQ, sweet tea, and good food but over all else a bad taste left in our mouths(most likely from the potato salad!)
(1)Casey M.
R&R was recommended by family, so we had to go, and to be sure, we were loooking forward to it. All in all, very average. Service was slow, and the young lady that was working our table seemed a bit challenged (the menu, prices, basic addition, timeliness, etc...). Food wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Fried shrimp were nothing to write home about, ribs were better than average. The fries were actually the best we encountered on the trip. We went on the fourth of July, late in the afternoon, so perhaps we caught them at a bad time.
(3)Michael P.
Ok after reading all of the bad reviews, I got depressed to hear that a family favorite had gone to he'll in a hand cart. I almost did not go there this trip. But I just had to go see for myself. And boy am I glad I did. The ribs were awesome as they had always been in years past and the shrimp were ok. I do not know if royal red shrimp have a season, but I am sure they do, and if you don't get them at the "right" time you will be disappointed. Thanks ribs n reds !!!! We will be back.
(4)Susan B.
What a disgusting waste of time and $9. We should've left as soon as we saw that for $9 we got an entree, three sides, drink, and dessert....but we stayed. Our service was alright, albeit awkward...but our food was nassssty. I had the grouper fish w/ potato salad, fries and veggies. The fish was OK, but the fries were stale and the potato salad was bland. My boyfriend had shrimp, which was actually the best thing on our table. His "spanish rice" tasted like it was made from a box about a week before it was served and his hush puppies were cold and tasted stale and like they'd been hanging out under a heat lamp for a few hours. Also, our waiter said we got banana pudding for dessert- then brought out something lumpy and weird and smelled like nursing home food and said as he set it down "I THIIINK this is banana pudding- our chef might have put some other stuff in there too." It tasted like canned fruit cocktail mixed in with boxed banana pudding. Joy. So if you're in Gulf Shores and smell something amazing, DON'T go to Ribs and Reds thinking that's where it's coming from. It's not. I promise.

I have to say our experience wasn't as bad as some, although the BBQ platter had only pulled pork (making it a pulled pork platter) and the sauce was a little to much ketsupy. We had take out and by the time we got back to our beach house it tasted pretty good. While we were there most of the staff spend their time watching "Dr. Phil", forcing the few people there to listen as well. The adult working there (maybe the owner) was very nice. She took our order promptly and gave us some coupons for our next visit and asked us to come back. The kids could use a work ethic lesson. If nothing is happening, clean, clean, clean. It's a restaurant.
(3)Jon S.
We paid $9 for the lunch special on a Sunday and it was totally worth it. The sweet tea is everything a non-Southerner would expect. Personally, I've eaten a LOT of seafood in my time, and the grouper was the best I've ever had. Texas toast, slaw & lonely sailor potatoes rounded out the meal and they were all fine. Well, I wouldn't get the potatoes again, but throw in dessert and it was still a great meal at a great price. Nothing out of the ordinary about the service. I did buy a t-shirt and was pleasantly to find it heartily recognized by a couple of friends I know who happen to be from Alabama. They were excited I'd been there and raved about the place themselves.

I dont understand how this place is still in business, AWFUL
(1)Kathi G.
I actually had a very good experience. Our server, Stephanie, was very attentive and friendly. Our reds and rib combo was very good. Generous serving of red and although the ribs were small, they were tasty and not tough.
(4)John G.
Poor service and food was over priced. Wine tasted like it had bee watered down. Wife's salad had brown lettuce and blackened catch of the day was seared and not blackened. When it was time to check out we had to go find our waitress. Not worth a visit.
(2)Emmie S.
5 Bad Meals - Don't get the ribs - they are fatty and greasy. Don't get the bar-b-que sandwich - it is covered in a catsuppy sauce and so wet on the bottom that it can't be picked up without a spatula. Don't get the broiled grouper - it was old and had a bad "off" flavor. Don't get the peel-n-eat shrimp - they were overcooked and mushy. Hey! Don't go there!

My wife and I went here twice during our trip to GS/OB, and our experience was good the first time, but disappointing the second time. The service was good and the atmosphere is nice. But the food seems to be hit or miss. We got boiled crawfish both times as an appetizer (we are from Louisiana so we LOVE boiled crawfish!); the first time it was really good but the second time around it was a little bland. My wife got the seafood fettucine which was AMAZING the first time, but just okay the second time. Tasty shrimp and gigantic scallops; they certainly didn't skimp on the seafood like some places do, but it just wasn't quite as good the second time. I got a barbecue chicken plate the first time we went which was pretty good; the bbq sauce was really tasty and they gave you a pretty good amount of food for the price. The second time I got a half-rack of their ribs and was very disappointed. It was very tough and dry and not very flavorful. Very disappointing for a restaurant with "Ribs" in its name; you'd expect that to be their specialty. The food is also a bit overpriced, although the bbq plate I had the first night was a good deal. Judging from other reviews I've heard of this place (some really positive, others really negative), it seems like this place is very hit or miss and it may just depend on what day you go. I'd rate this place 4 stars on our first visit and 2 stars on our second visit, averaging out to my 3 star rating.

Short version: Below average restaurant run by thieves. Long version: My girlfriend and I dropped in at Ribs and Reds for lunch. We had the Seafood Sampler Basket for 13.99 after being told we couldn't substitute out sides on another platter. We were attending the Hangout Festival and had 1 hour before the next show started, plenty of time to have a quick lunch in the not-busy restaurant. Or so we thought. It actually took 1 hour and 15 minutes from entry to exit. Our waitress was kind, but very slow. Our meal, waters, and ticket to a very long time. And the food was not good, either. Having this poor experience, I tipped $1 on my credit card receipt. Tax was 10% there, so my total was $16.39. My mistake: I signed and left the customer copy of the receipt and left the merchant copy blank. Fast forward to this week, when I checked my bank statement, and I had a charge for $18.39. Someone at R&R had falsified my tip. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager, Don Stafford. He was friendly at first and pulled my ticket, but when I suggested to him that someone falsely reported a tip, he got angry and insulted me. He suggested I "go to church and find myself" and later suggested I was a "weird dude" for pursuing this. I asked Mr. Stafford which copy of the receipt he was holding, and he said it was the merchant's copy, signed and with $3 left as the tip. I told him that someone forged my signature, as I signed the customer copy. He went on an angry tirade that ended with him hanging up on me. I called back and asked if he would send me a copy of the receipt he had, and he said no, and that he didn't want customers like me in his restaurant. I informed him that I would relay that in my online review, and he hung up on me again. So, potential diners, I tell you to beware. If you MUST eat at Ribs and Reds, be sure to hold your wallets close and keep a paper trail of your dealings, or you might be stolen from like I was. I thought that Ribs and Reds sounded like the name of a pirate ship, and it turns out I was onto something.

Second year in a row visiting, was even better this year! Our server was FANTASTIC! She was timely with getting our drinks, fantastic timing with taking order and delivering appetizer before food. The royal Reds were great this year, as was the Caribbean shrimp platter!
(5)Je S.
I give them 2 stars because of the service ( i wish I could give 1 & a half) from our server was GREAT! The ribs were as well- said my wife. We didn't eat the seafood for which they are also famous. I had a barbecue chicken breast strip that I sent back. The sauce was watered down & the meat itself didn't taste seasoned at all. The baked beans & potato salad seemed to come from a grocery deli. Being able to sit outside in view of the beach & the incredible server we had saved this visit from being a complete bust. We won't be back, yet if you like seafood- I heard they have great Groper & Reds from a family that sat near us.
(2)Ellen B.
No. Just...no. No. No. First, you should always be leery when a menu for a place called Ribs & Reds is 8 pages long. Second...no matter how lovely and friendly the staff is...if they aren't efficient and skilled...it doesn't matter. The peel n eat shrimp was previously frozen. The corn on the cob was mushy and cold and steaks were dreadful.

My wife and I took out 5 children for a late dinner. We ate, we laughed and had a good time. Was a little pricy but what isn't in a vacation town. We enjoyed ourselves Thank you ribs and reds!

I actually had a very good experience. Our server, Stephanie, was very attentive and friendly. Our reds and rib combo was very good. Generous serving of red and although the ribs were small, they were tasty and not tough.

Poor service and food was over priced. Wine tasted like it had bee watered down. Wife's salad had brown lettuce and blackened catch of the day was seared and not blackened. When it was time to check out we had to go find our waitress. Not worth a visit.

My wife and I took out 5 children for a late dinner. We ate, we laughed and had a good time. Was a little pricy but what isn't in a vacation town. We enjoyed ourselves Thank you ribs and reds!

On vacation my wife and I wanted some barbecue. Went to this place and got ribs with a good portion of fat on them. Not good at all. Service was good and the food came out quickly but the food was disappointing.
