I don't get to go to Jim'n Nick's often but when I do they never disappoint. Staff is always tentative and knowledgeable. The salad was almost too pretty to eat and the brisket chilly was amazing and the pulled pork was great as always.

Dropped in for lunch and ordered the brisket sandwich and two trimmings (beans and slaw). The brisket was tender, but kinda dry. The bread and butter pickle that they add goes well with this sandwich. Beans were sweet, but decent, and the slaw was good (mayo-based and dripping everywhere). My new favorite beverage was on draft, and I'm glad I gave it a try...Avondale Pale Wheat. Wonderful beer, good food, but way overpriced. $22.79 for a beer and a sandwich plate...

What a very disappointing experience at this particular Jim N Nicks. It was a shame as we love their restaurant typically. Here is how our experience went... As we walked in at about 9 pm (they are open until 10 pm), we were seated in what felt like a reluctant fashion. It was quite a few minutes before a server visited our table as there seemed to be a debate about who wanted what we supposed was one of the last tables of the night. Once we ordered two beers it took over 5 minutes to get them even though the place was nearly empty yet they had a lot of staff still there. We then ordered nachos and five wings. It took about 30 minutes to get these items. The nachos were okay but the wings were horrendous! They are smoked and then supposedly flash fried. Apparently one of the cooks forgot about them in the fryer as they were way over done. We aren't complainers so we just let it go. Not to mention, we were on a road trip and certainly didn't want to wait 30 minutes for five more wings. As if the food and drink issues weren't enough, the staff was unprofessional in many other ways. They swept all around us with no regard for the fact we were eating. One server that was wiping down tables stayed on his phone talking loudly the whole time to include the table adjacent to us. After we ordered a second round of drinks, our server came back to our table area sweeping rather than with our drinks. We had to remind/ask her for our drinks at that point. Her name was Jordan and our table was 42/1 on Sept. 4th, 2015. All of this and $48 later we left! I hope these issues are at least limited to this location. We just don't know that we could risk another visit though.

The good qualities about a chain restaurant are in this location. The decor, menu, and service are what you expect. While our server was new, she did a good job. The manager was present and made rounds at the tables to ensure satisfaction with service and food. The food was standard and tasted like Jim N Nick's, which is important with chain restaurants. The wait was a bit longer than normal since the place wasn't overly crowded. Unfortunately, the fries were lukewarm and my potato wasn't overly hot. That was a bit disappointing. Otherwise a decent experience.

While traveling from Birmingham to Decatur, I took the Gardendale exit in hopes for grabbing a late lunch. I found this Jim & Nicks so popped in. Grabbed a great local Brewery Brew and a BBQ sandwich plate. The Pulled Pork BBQ is some of the best I've had! My Brew was ice cold and excellent. I got their fries as a side and had so many I couldn't eat them all. The service was very friendly and attentive. I very much enjoyed my visit and highly recommend them for anyone in the area.

Good size portions. Great tasting ribs. Mac & Cheese was off the charts! Be prepared to spend a buck or two. But worth it.

Excellent food! I had turkey, the boyfriend had brisket, ribs, & pulled pork. Everything was amazing & the service was great too! We were seated instantly, drinks arrived, we ordered, received cheese biscuits, seconds later, our food appeared. Ordered deserts to go.

I love Jim and nick BBQ but wow the service sucks. We never got any cheesy rolls or refills. I guess it will be my last time in there.

Putting cheese into a muffin style biscuit?!? You had me at cheese. Have been to a few other Jim n nicks on my Alabama tour. The service never disappoints, always on point. I had ordered the 'Pig on a Bun' which supposedly is their go to sandwich ( pulled pork sandwich), now expecting to be filled with excitement and joy I was halted abruptly by the dryness of the pork. wah! I added their house made BBQ sauce which helped but wasn't enough. It was like trying to water a desert expecting grass to grow. Maybe this was just a bad batch I'd like to think but who knows. Was not too satisfied. I give the 3 stars purely based on the service. Unsure if I'll give them another shot since there are so many other good BBQ places in Alabama.

If I could rate negative stars, I would. Worst experience ever at Jim 'n Nicks. Had to ask for everything multiple times including biscuits. Finally flagged a manager down to get them. Appetizer came before we ever got our drinks, chicken was cold and portions were very small. Server kept apologizing saying he had ordered our biscuits multiple times and they were coming out of the oven right now. Manager was not nice, nor did he care that we had a bad experience. I noticed that the a few tables over was about to have the same experience when their server apologized for them waiting so long for anyone to even take their drink order. Then they received their appetizer before they got a drink. At least they got biscuits. Kids asked for a balloon when the server was trying to make it up to them. When he came back, they asked him again. Finally, we gave up, but he caught us before we left. When we finally did get our check and get out, I heard a lady say on the way out, "they don't make enough money to pay me to go back in to that place!" I had to laugh!

The food is good, flavorful barbecue, and the pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries makes for a hearty lunch. There's a patio as you approach the front door where you can enjoy the fresh air when it's nice. Plenty of seating inside with tables and booths, and there are a couple TVs set up.

I have always been a HUGE fan of the cheese biscuits. Just can't get enough. But I was never overwhelmed by the BBQ until I asked the waitress how fatty brisket was as I had never tried it. The nice waitress suggested that I try it and ask for a leaner piece. It was wonderful. Definitely found my favorite dish there! But the cheese biscuits are still the main attraction! It is worth ordering a pan of those just for family gatherings. Favorite Meal: Brisket, baked beans, and CHEESE BISCUITS The reason it's my Top 100 Dishes to Try and Little Things: Cheese Biscuits! Yeah I know that's not a dish but I sure could make a meal out of 'em and still enjoy them as an appetizer. See how I made that work? List: The BEST brisket I've ever had.

Ignore any bad ratings and just come here. Great ribs, very good service and nice atmosphere. I make my own ribs and these were very good! Sauces are OK, but the good news is you really don't need them. Collard greens were good to good+, Mac n' cheese was great, potato salad was good (texture was a bit mashed), not great, and the pecan pie was...very good - 8 out of 10.

Service and food was slow. On top of that I paid 5 bucks for a 12 ounce good people ipa that came in a beat up beer can and the server literally dumped it in the glass. Like all foam, so my boyfriend said that's not how you pour a beer and he laughed and said yeah tilt the glass. And I paid 5 bucks for a flat busted 12 ounce beer.. Left not happy and felt ripped off.

Jim N Nicks is more than just your average chain barbeque joint. Their food always tastes fresh and there is a definite commitment to quality of ingredients that, I feel, is apparent throughout their offerings. The following are some of my favorite, if not a little random, "staples". First off are their cheese biscuits; which are more like little morsels of savory sweet cheesy muffiny goodness. They're baked perfectly. Soft on the bottom and slightly crisp on top. Just pace yourself. Next, oddly enough, would be their queso and nachos. These, along with their Tuesday Tacos, are some of the dishes that inspired the incarnation of The Little Donkey in Homewood. The chips they serve with the queso and nachos may at first seem a little thick however they won't get soggy when you reach the bottom of the huge pile of nachos, a definite plus. And make sure to get some of their jalapenos. They're sliced fresh and add a nice kick. Another item would the Chopped Southern Salad. Comes tossed in a savory vinaigrette but I always like to get a little ranch and bbq sauce on the side. I really think the thing I like most about it is the addition of sweet little pieces of corn. I never feel there are enough. Maybe I should ask for me. Get it with pork or chicken, you won't be disappointed. And lastly would their awesome pecan pie. Growing up with relatives from South Georgia, the veritable pecan capital of the world, I've had my share of stellar pecan pies. This one is as good as any I've ever had. (Sorry mom and grandmother) The pecans are crushed up in small pieces and the filling is that perfect soft consistency, not runny and not too firm. Just right. Give Jim N Nicks a chance on your BBQ tour of B'ham. Sure there are some awesome BBQ joints in the 'Ham but Jim N Nicks keeps up IMO and is worth that try.

we had to leave here and go through a drive thru. We had the tacos on Taco Tuesday. Maybe the flat little things had a tablespoon of barbeque.. but I doubt it. other sides were cold. not worth the 40 bucks we paid for 3 people. That is for sure!

The restaurant is located in typical suburban hell in a wal mart parking lot. The food is dry and tasteless, despite their high food costs. The service leaves you feeling abused and hated. If you go you will not need any money for tipping as you will not want to tip someone after such service.
