My family and I have lived in Fairhope for many many years and have eaten at Ben's bar b que many many times. The bbq and burgers are pretty good. The sides aren't much to talk about. The sweet tea and corn fritters are a must! The one major problem I have with this place is that every time we eat here there is one older male waiter who always seems angry or annoyed by something/ someone. He is always extremely rude for no reason. He is very impatient and is constantly throwing dirty dishes very loudly. It would be a much better experience when this guy retires. I always just try to smile and bear it when he waits on us. Just today my daughter was standing in line waiting for a table for us while I finished ordering our food and apparently there was a friend of his there who he decided deserved a table before us so we ended getting skipped over just because my daughter had been waiting in line before I finished ordering. I thought this was very petty and ridiculous! The rest of the wait staff and especially the owners are very nice people though.

I am going to try to convey how I feel about Ben's to you lovely fellow Yelpers. Take my five stars and believe them. I have eaten at Ben's for 10+ years. It's quick, simple, delicious and reliable. Oustanding BBQ. And ok, I'm going to tell you something I don't tell many people: This is my favorite cheeseburger on the face of the planet. Yes, THE PLANET. I've eaten a lot of burgers, kids. So many that I should probably be ashamed. I've had burgers in NYC, Chicago, Vegas, and every state in between. This is the only burger that reigns number one. Seriously. Something about it's simplicity and local flavor makes it perfect. I will go to the grave talking about Ben's cheeseburger. Nope, not even Weber Grill in Chicago compares. This is cheeseburger mecca for me.

Judging from the number of cars we'd seen parked in front of Original Ben's, we thought it must be pretty good. We went for lunch a few weeks ago and were very disappointed. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans and potato salad. The sandwich comes plain with a side of very bland barbeque sauce -- although the portion of meat is generous, it could be much better with a more flavorful sauce. The baked beans and potato salad were average at best. The service was fine, but the food was so lacking in taste that we won't be returning.

I got the Rib dinner. Great smokey flavor in the meat. Sauce was okay to good. Hush puppies were great, but BBQ beans left a lot to be desired. The atmosphere can be off putting to some, but I liked it. I will go back for sure.

Good BBQ without a lot of fuss. The place was packed while we were there, and I can see why. They turn tables over quickly to accommodate the long line and constant flow of people needing their BBQ fix. I had a pulled chicken sandwich that was good, but I had to get more sauce for it. The sauce was sweet, but had a bit of a kick. Definitely house-made and not some store-bought stuff. My only complaint is that my sandwich fell apart when I tried to eat it. Apparently, the insider tip is to flip your sandwich upside down and have the thick top bun on the bottom (thanks, J, for telling me that AFTER I finished eating!). J had the ribs and enjoyed them. They looked really smoky and charred on the outside; made very well. I had beans on the side, and they were good. Lots of pork included, FYI! The slaw, however, was forgettable. No flavor, and really finely chopped. Even pepper couldn't help it. I'd order it as a sandwich topping, but not as a stand-alone side. Now I can see why this is a popular place in Fairhope. Looking forward to my next trip in!

Good 'Cue! Nice smokey flavor in the ribs, chicken, and pork! And that's mainly what you want in BBQ! The sides are just OK. Don't bother with the cole slaw...bland, needs more carrots. Nice staff too. Very attentive, they work hard! Next time I'll try the burgers that everyone raves about!

The place smelled great while driving by. Too bad the food didn't taste as good as it smelled. The portions were generous. Yet, the food had no flavor. Not bad, but not good either. The hush puppies were greasy and inedible though. The staff were nice enough to substitute potato salad after tasting the hush puppies. Overall, the food was not good enough to go back for.

I often drive by this place when I visit Fairhope and hope the city would welcome its visitors with a good bbq shack. Not the case, the food isnt bad but it isnt good. I ordered the rib plate, tasted good but didnt stand out to me. The beans were good but came out on the cool side. Our waiter seemed to have a chip on his shoulder while serving us. The cashier didnt acknowledge our thanks when we paid for our food. You would think it would have been better by the number of customers and reputation it has but sadly does not. I will continue to pass this place up.
