NOTE- Whenever I eat at an establishment I look at the following factors: quality of service, quality of food, price of meal, portion sizes, and the restaurant ambiance. If you're heading to the beach and your looking for the best barbecued butts in the Southeast, cruise by Phil's B-B-Q, in Eufaula, Alabama. Good, fast, and friendly is the name of the game. Phil's is a block off the main road and well worth the detour. The large dining room can seat the largest of families-just pull the tables together and you're in for a treat. The decor is local memorabilia hanging on painted cinder block walls. The walls are also adorned with photos from over the years of the many famous patrons who have walked through the doors and enjoyed southern barbecue at its best. At Phil's B-B-Q, Elvis has not left the building. Standard fair is the Chicken or Pork Barbecue Plate, Big Boy Platter, 1/2 Pound Plate, or Chopped BBQ by the Pound! If you like ribs, like I do, Phil's offers the following: * 1/2 Slab of pork ribs with bread, 2 sides, sauce, and a pickle * Slab of ribs * Rib Sandwich * Hungry Man's Platter - 3 ribs, chopped BBQ, 1/4 chicken, bread, 2 sides, sauce, and a pickle If you're into Low Carb, don't worry-you can get meat with slaw or a salad. And, if your kids are not into barbecue, Phil's has hamburgers, corn dogs, and chicken strips to name few. All this talk of smoked barbecue got you thirsty? Well, when you're in the South you have to drink SWEET tea! We're talking the real deal folks, not that fake brown fruity liquid out of the soda dispensers. If the tea is too sweet for you, take a walk down memory lane while popping the top off an ice cold RC Cola, Orange Crush, Grape Crush, or A&W Root Beer! Ah, I remember them well. Finally, be sure to grab a piece of homemade cake to go. Cake not your style? Then try a piece of Southern Pecan Pie. It goes great with a hot cup of coffee. Yep, start your vacation right. Swing into Phil's B-B-Q in Eufaula, Alabama with the family and start making memories.

Saw a billboard for this place on the way home from gulf coast. They opened at 10am and glad we stopped! Ordered chopped pork sandwich and rib sandwich along with potato salad. The meat had a great smoke flavor and tenderness. The potato salad was homemade and was very good. The people were also very friendly and quick service. We will definitely stop here on our next trip to the beach!

Phil's is the real deal BBQ joint. Was visiting family in Eufaula and they took us to Phil's. I love my BBQ, especially pork butt and ribs and Phil's nails both of these BBQ staples perfectly. I ordered the chopped pork plate and it came with just the right amount of crispy ends vs tender juicy pieces and was smoked perfectly. Served with your choice of sides (I went with the Brunswick Stew & baked beans and both were excellent. Also served with two slices of WHITE bread as it should be and an assortment of homemade sauces to suite anyones taste.

Your nose tells you the instant you walk in: yup, you've come up the right place for BBQ. Heavenly aroma, friendly staff, and a huge menu. I was driving through town on business and knew this would be the only time I would ever be here, so I had to order carefully. I went with the baby back rib plate and it did not disappoint! Deliciously seasoned with no sauce allowed me to sample many different kind of BBQ sauce. My favorites ended up being the sweet lucy and the hot. The baked beans were excellent and the potato salad was good. The food came out fast and hot, despite the noon crowd. They even had Diet Dr Pepper! The owner thanked me as I left. In one word: Aaaaamazing! Fall off the bone ribs. With or without their famous sauce they are delicious. I had the ribs and the chipped bbq sandwich with beans and macaroni salad.

Initially we were excited to stop here after reading the reviews. To all my Georgia peeps beware because this is not like BBQ back home! It really didn't have much flavor and the meat was mushy. There was a ton of bun and little meat. The cole slaw ad potatoe salad were good but if you are a BBQ place having good sides but poor butt's doesn't cut it. Wouldn't go again.

This place was delicious. We stopped on our way home from the beach. The potato salad literally tastes like the most delicious ranch dressing you've tasted with potatoes! The beans were good as well. I had the chipped bbq which, being a dipper, didn't make the task of dipping easy. My husband had the chopped chicken and I liked that too. They had too many sauces to truly get a gauge for what was good and what wasn't. I primarily ate the sweet and mild and they were good. The only complete downer was the ladies room had pee all over the seat.... Gross!

I really like this place. I generally stop her for lunch and on way to and from Florida and have never had a bad meal. Typically, the meat is moist and tender and they offer five or so different types of BBQ sauces, some of which are homemade. The sides are good (baked beans and cole slaw are my favorites) and the desserts are yummy and homemade. If you like good Southern BBQ, then you can't go wrong at Phil's. The owner has taken down the signs on the main highway and you may need a GPS or smartphone to find the place. It is located on a side street one or two blocks off the main highway (Hwy. 431).

By FAR some of the best baked beans I've had in a while! We got the family meal deal which was like $40 with drinks, 2 sides, 1 1/2 lbs of pork, and extra bread. Best deal if you got 2 hungry kiddos! We were very pleased with the service and the food! I gave it a 4 because of the location. It was kinda hard to find.

Stopped on the way back to Charlotte from Seaside, FL and really enjoyed the cue! My wife and I both got a pork plate. Mine with potato salad and coleslaw and hers with slaw and baked beans. The sides were all good with the potato salad being the shining star. The pork? YUM. Got it chopped and it was moist, tender with great smoke flavor and a ton of pieces with delicious, crunchy bark. The sauce is kind of mustard/vinegar based with varying degrees of heat. My wife thought it was just ok but I loved it. Reminded me sauce from Jenkins BBQ from back home in Jacksonville, FL. We would certainly stop here again if in the area.

BBQ was average. I passed through the area at the right time and followed the signs to find a new place. It had a cafeteria feel - order at the counter and find a table with a nondescript plaid table cloth. The pulled pork was good and the baked beans and Brunswick stew were average. None of the sauces provided were very impressive, so I mixed the baked beans, stew, and pork which wasn't too bad. Usually either the sides or the pork shines at this type of restaurant, and neither did here. I'd stop again if it was the right time during a trip through the area, but would just expect some quick average food at a reasonable price; no more, no less. They did have crushed ice and diet dr pepper so that's worth a couple stars all on its own I suppose.

i must admit that the first time i tried this place i was put off by the mustard based sauce. Now that I've revisited a time or 2 heading to L.A (lower Alabama) i must admit that it has grown on me. Ask for the chopped pork outside meat and you will get a moist flavorful Q with just enough smoke flavor, some nice bark with a tiny bit of fat underneath to keep the meat most and juicy. There are several extra sauces on the table to choose from to add a little kick. They are all mustard based but range from sweet to spicy to one called Super Hot which is what i personally like. The ribs are pretty good but i prefer the chopped sandwich for some reason. Maybe it has to do with the grilled bun that they put the meat on. Brunswick Stew is a little bit greasy for my taste but the overall flavor was good, although it is lacking in any vegetables.

Solid 3 STAR barbecue.....Barbecue is made to be judged and 3 STARs means it is damn fine barbecue......4 STARS sublime in its naughtiness and 5 STARS is heavenly. Headed to Phil's on a recommendation from a good friend as I made my way back from the panhandle. It was a good recommendation indeed. Road trips are too often populated with national fast food joints that add no extra spice to the trip. A place like Phil's is a welcome relief for two reason: RIDICULOUSLY fast service and a real sense of place that adds to a good road trip from ATL to the Gulf Coast. I was still at the coast when my friend called and raved about Phils. Game Over. I only had barbecue on the brain and ribs, chicken, roast pork and brunswick stew bounced around in my brain. My wife eyed me warily as I swatted away her handful of Goldfish crackers!!!! No food until we get to Phils!!!! The wait was well worth it.

As far a BBQ goes, I dont think it can get much better than this. Admittedly, I have not eaten every item on the menu. But those that I have sampled have been awesome. I first tried the Brunswick Stew a year ago while visiting family (I live in Maryland). I was hooked (in fact , I just finished eating some for lunch). The baked beans are the best I've ever had (though my sister says hers is better...we will see). The BBQ pork is to die for. I will make Phil's a must see each time I visit home from now on. If you're ever in Eufaula, you gotta pay them a visit.

The owner has taken down the signs on the main highway and you may need a GPS or smartphone to find the place. It is located on a side street one or two blocks off the main highway (Hwy. 431).

Excellent BBQ sandwiches for lunch in Eufaula, AL. We are from Charlotte, NC it was different from the Lexington BBQ we are used to. If you can get to Phil's BBQ do it!

Best barbeque ever! Great portions and friendly service. I loved all of their sauces. We bought their special rub to go. I would highly recommend this stop if your on your way to PC.

Pleasantly surprised to find good Carolina style BBQ in south AL. Worth the stop. Good sides, slaw without mayo, good potato salad.

We stop here on the way to the beach every time. Their chopped pork sandwich rocks! Their beans and coleslaw are delicious as well!

Great food. Stopped by on my way through from Atlanta (where we have endless choices) and I was very impressed. Great chopped sandwhich and 4 out of 5 stew. I'll be back!

Baked beans the best ever!!! Chopped bbq was very good. Ribs were also excellent. Didn't care much for the chipped bbq but otherwise awesome.

Best around. If your close by you absolutely have to stop. No regrets.

Totally in agreement with the other reviewer who said these are the best baked beans I've ever had. Sooo good!
(4)Rachel L.

Southern BBQ at its finest!

i must admit that the first time i tried this place i was put off by the mustard based sauce.

I ready the reviews and cant make this past a 2. The ribs were very fatty, little flavor. The baked bean were pretty awesome. Not worth the stop to me, we can do much better at home.

I have been eating at Phil's almost 10 years. I spent a week in Eufaula about 10 years ago and found this place. I eat there every time we go to the panhandle from Atlanta. It is the best bbq I have ever had. My family loves this place. When you can get two little girls to love bbq you know you are doing it right.

Excellent food and ok service. Ate here the night before Thanksgiving 2010. Was impressed with how quickly the food was served. Barbque Chicken was outstanding, chipped pork was ok heavy with sauce.

Best butts in Bama! A must stop on trips from ATL to Destin
(4)Ellis J.
If you're ever in Eufaula, you gotta pay them a visit.

not quite as good as 2 years ago but not real bad. i just get the feeling they were indifferent if you stop or not .... it reminded me that i felt this way the first time, as well.... the ribs were still pretty good ... i think they offer too many sauces, trying to be all things for everybody .. the chicken was dry and not as good as before .... i'm not so sure they are worth going too far out of the way to stop
