We decided to hit this place on the way back home from Panama City, FL. It is southern food and well worth the stop. I had the fried chicken, rice and gravy, mac and cheese, and fried okra. I also had a piece of caramel cake. The line was LONG but moved pretty quick.

I am not from the south so I can't accurately avaluate how it compares to other southern food but I can honestly say the food was delicious. Very very very good.

True down home cooking! From the juiciest fried chicken to the homemade deserts with all the trimmings. We had never heard of Zacks but all swear we will eat here every time we pass through Dothan. This place epitomizes Southern cooking done right!

I am from the area and gone to Zack's in Slocomb for years. I was glad to hear the first time that they were opening a location in Dothan. I have been to this location numerous times over the years, and never been disappointed. Zack's is the definition of great, down home, country cooking. I have only gone for Sunday at lunch. But I hear it is the same all the time (maybe a little worse on Sunday's). Crowded. Get there early or be prepared to wait. Which I always see as a good sign. I wish I could give a recommendation, but everything is so good. Chicken and dumplings, country fried steak, fried chicken...all incredible. My wife has even gotten that baked chicken and said it is fantastic. All veggies are great. I love the creamed corn and the butter beans are outstanding. Greens, mashed potatoes, dressing...you can't go wrong with the veggies either. Desserts are great. Along with the bread that comes with it. By the way, did I mention that you get a HUGE bang for your buck. The quantities for the price do not even measure up. The only reason they make money is because of the amount of people coming through!! If you are in the area, very highly recommended.

A co-worker & I were in town & found this awesome place. I love the cafeteria style home cooking. There was a long line when we got there for lunch but it moves rather quickly. I had pulled pork, turnip green, boiled cabbage, fried green tomatoes, cornbread & a salad (you can opt out of dessert for another veggie which is what I did). They serve up hefty portions & everything was delicious. I would definitely go there again for lunch!

Really liked this place. It came on the recommendation of a local and glad I took their advice! It's good homemade food, and you can really tell it. Nothing tasted like it was from a box or frozen, etc. You go through an old school style serving (cafeteria like) line. The staff that serves you are really great, and get you taken care of promptly and are very friendly. Had the country fried streak with gravy, green beans, macaroni and cheese and the broccoli casserole. All of it was great. Especially, surprisingly, the broccoli casserole. Will definitely go back when in the area.

If you like Southern salty flavorless food, this is the spot. Not a fan of this, so did not really like. The people were nice, but the food was bland and laden with salt. Served cafeteria style, you pick what you want. Dessert is first on the line which doesn't really make sense to me, but ok. The restaurant has a portable/trailer feel to it, not my thing.

A cafeteria style meat and three where everything taste made to order. Low prices, large portions and classic southern selections. Banana pudding, fried okra, fried/baked chicken, fried green tomatoes, collard greens, mashed potatoes and brown or white gravy and several more southern favorites. Zack's is the best cafeteria style meat and three around.

Best southern cooking in the southeast area. Their dothan and Slocomb locations are both great places to eat. Friendly staff and food that taste as good as mama's!

Id give it 5 stars but for the type of food I purchased, Id say it was about 25 to 35 percent overpriced than any other place with the same selection. Had the standard lunch with an extra dessert, and vegetable and paid $13.74, which for southern food is a bit high end. As for quality, it was very good I got the roast beef, which was very tender and very good. First time I ate fried green tomatoes and they were addictive. Banana pudding wasnt from scratch but was put together pretty good and the bananas were fresh and not blackened. The sweet tea was sweet and strong. VERY well staffed (seemed like there were 50 people) and very impressed I got there 30 minutes before closing and they had the entire food selection well stocked and didnt seem to try and rush me out despite me leaving 10 minutes before closing .Rest rooms kinda small but the have em on both north and south sides. Parking is tricky, be sure to park on the side as if you park out front, the SE corner of the building is a blind spot and you can get hit. Service was adequate, did take about 5 minutes after my tea was empty to get a refill which I thought was a bit long being I was the only person seated on the north side of the building with 5 waitresses around so the only other negative. All in all, I left full, the quality of food was good and service was ok.

It is what it is so I guess in that regard maybe it deserves 5 stars. I think my body is still mad at me for eating here. Although I would never go back I'm glad I went the first time. A cultural experience, fried okra, fried chicken, mac n' cheese, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, diners to show it off and of course sweet tea!

This is a crazy fun place to eat! Cafeteria style place that is crazy packed all the time. The food is very good, although very "comforting" which means it will make you fat like most of the other people eating here. I love that there are all walks of life here with one thing in common; everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and the food. Definitely a fun place to come. Just don't eat much beforehand and you will be set for the next few days after eating here.

Very good country cooking. Food is outstanding. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is very friendly. Very good spot to get some chow in one of the best areas. The people in this area of the country are some of the nicest in the US. Two thumbs up for Zacks and for Dothan, AL.

This is true Southern food. The cafeteria style serving line is efficient which is important here cause the place is always PACKED. Fried chicken is yummy, the veggies are outstanding...just ALL GOOD!!

Authenic southern country food...Mom and I shared our plates of the country fried steak and fried chicken and it was delicious. I also recommend the cornbread dressing. I am visiting from CA and this was the best.
