Went to Mikata recently for the first time in several years. The service had gone down significantly. We had trouble getting someone to take our drink orders, then they were delivered wrong. The waitress didn't seem to be worried about us at all. Any of the side items that were ordered at our table (steamed rice, sushi, etc.) had not come out by the time our hibachi was done. The chef had reminded her while he was cooking to bring it. When it hadn't been done by the time he was done cooking, he went and got it himself. The food was.. okay. The salad only comes with the honey mustard dressing. I really like the ginger dressing a lot of hibachi places have, so I missed that. I got the chicken and steak, and both were very salty. I wish Dothan had an Osaka. =/

This place is about what you'd expect in a hibachi atmosphere. I haven't had the sushi, so this is only in reference to hibachi. Very typical experience, though I can say that the filet was excellent. It was worth the trip; extremely tender, like buttah! The prices are what you'd expect. Some of the reviews indicate a high salt content with their food. Ok, it's HIBACHI JAPANESE. Soy, salt, sodium, etc is part of the cooking and the culture. Get over it. If you hate salt, have the white rice instead of the fried. Sheesh!

Our server was very funny and our food was amazing. It wasn't as "classy" as I was expecting so I was a little over dressed but the drinks and food were worth it!

Salt, salt, salt, salt, and here's some soy salt. Every time I've eaten here, for a group, or kids' birthday, I am completely grossed out by how salty it is. It's truly insane. How else can you ruin such simple fare? If you get the fried rice, it's an additional charge for $2, per person!!! On top of 17- 20 something for a mediocre shrimp or steak, or chicken entree. Over 100$ for a family of five, single entrees, kids menu and ALL waters!!! Then they bring out a birthday pineapple boat, and guess what???? They charge you for it!!!! I'm dumbfounded how this place stays in business. Any true foodies would never consider eating in one of these tired out, played out chains anyway.

Let me start with, the food can be excellent, but it's also dependant on the cook. I eat here maybe once every two months. There are two of the newer cooks that don't quite make the dishes as good as the others. I have gone here and had the best meal ever and I've also left satisfied but kinda disappointed. Aside from the Hibatchi, they have some of the best sushi in town. It is always fresh and very good. Unlike other places with separate table sections, Mikata only offers seating at the hibatchi style tables. Sitting at the sushi bar or the bar is an option if it's not crowded, but this place is almost always crowded after 6:00 pm. Expect at least a 15 min wait. On the weekends I've waited up to 45 mins. I wouldn't say the staff is rude, but none of them are winning Ms. Congeniality either. Several times I've asked for something simple like a maki roll with shrimp for my daughter, which they don't have on the menu, but is essentially a tuna roll using shrimp instead of tuna. Once I had to confirm it with three different people to get it ordered. We also frequent Kinza in Dothan and it's never a problem there. Mikata is pricey compared to typical Dothan fare, but is a great place to get full and take home some delicious leftovers. It's not terribly fancy but I often recommend it to coworkers coming to town on business.

Being that I live in fla and sushi is a main stay on the coast, I found myself having 3 different styles of sushi, all good and as fresh as you'll find on the coast . A quite place, clean and friendly.

I experienced this wonderful restaurant along with colleagues during our recent trip to Dothan. Our highly skilled performing and comedic chef was so entertaining. Good drinks, good food and good company made for a great experience. This restaurant is right next door to local hotels. Loved the atmosphere, set up and pleasant staff.

My husband and I went there for our 5th anniversary, and I was 9 months pregnant. I'm picky when I'm pregnant, and I LOVED it! The price is really high, so I can't go there very often, but I would definitely go back!

Not good! The Chef dumped a ton of salt and butter on the food... Everyone at the table commented on how salty everything was. The Chef also used the same turner for the over cooked shrimp and the raw chicken! Service also was lacking. I won't be back

We made reservations and they got us seated right on time. We attempted to order sushi as an appetizer however we were talked out of it by our server because she stated that they were very behind and it would probably take longer than the meal. I appreciated the honesty but still wanted sushi. The main entree/entertainment was good. It amazes me that the chef here did the exact same tricks and made the same jokes as the chefs at the Japanese steakhouse in MN. Is there one school that they all go to? The food was very good. I had the fried rice with steak and chicken. It was good as expected. The drinks were good as well.

I ate here when I was living in Alabama back in 2007. Coming from the Bay Area, I wasn't too impressed, even though I kept an open mind and put into consideration that I was in Alabama, of all places. One memory that sticks out sorely is that the Korean lady bartender was very rude and inefficient when I ordered up a few drinks while we waited for our seats. I don't know what they were trying to hide in their sushi rolls but whatever it was, I couldn't tell through all the rich, creamy sauces poured over the rolls. It was like drinking mayo with chunks of sushi in it. Mikata is a change to the Alabama scene and would be nice to folks that don't know any better. But for me, I've learned that you can't get decent Japanese in the Wiregrass.

The food is good but confused as to why the prices are so hi for hibachi meals. My wife and i have had the same meal other places for half the price.

Delicious! I ate at the sushi bar three nights in a row. The miso is very tasty. Drink from the bowl! I only ate maki rolls and didn't have a bad one. I recommend the "playboy" and the "no name" rolls. I had two different itamae and both were clean and professional. There was a language barrier, but not too bad. It was a friendly atmosphere and the folks at the grill seemed to be having a blast. I'll be back!

I ate here for the second time last weekend and although it wasn't the best place I have ever been to it was by far not the worse. Knowing that I am in UCLA (ugly corner lower Alabama) you have to consider that the places your use to back home will not be the same here. Saying that the service was fast and I really didn't have to wait to long. I went on an off night so there wasn't the big long wait, we were seated as soon as we walked in. The food was good, I have had better but for what i was paying for it was more then enough. Overall I was pleased with Mikatas and prob will go back, or try to find another place that does this stuff

Prompt service. Tasty. Good edamame, sushi, and soups. Did not like the salad dressing - far too creamy and unlike anything I've gotten in a Japanese restaurant before. Agree with another poster that they should either do away with sweet tea on their menu or get/make proper sweet tea. It is Alabama and customers won't want what they are serving. The hibachi chef was charming and talented and the chicken and steak were delicious and very tender. The price was about what I would have expected but probably seems high to most people in the area. It was a LOT better than Miyori in Enterprise - especially the sushi. I would go again and eat at the sushi bar.

In a word, mediocre. It's a japanese steakhouse with the usual: steak, chicken, or shrimp. Combo any of those if you like. We went early evening and there was no wait. Service was prompt and the food was quick, if unspectacular. I asked for sweet tea and was asked if instant was "OK". Well, not really but if it's all you got, I guess i'll take it. This place isn't the only offender but surely it isn't all that hard to put three tea bags in boiling water and finish it with a cup of sugar. I'm pretty sure sweet tea isn't a delicacy in south Alabama. Anyway, on a scale of ten, closer to 4 than 5.

This is a sushi bar review only. Pretty much par for the course here. Construction and freshness fall solidly within 3 star range. Nothing to write home about, but you won't hate yourself in the morning. Apparently there are no Japanese people residing in Alabama. The chefs here are Mandarin, and the chefs at the "Japanese" restaurant in Enterprise are Korean and Thai. Prices are probably a bit high for the area. One thing that I found to be hilarious, a medium jar of sake is pretty much the standard size medium. The large however, is a tea pot!! Thats a lotta sake!!

$30 for a hibachi grill? WTF? It was terrible, but, they did have genuine Japanese chefs. I suppose they had to pay to fly those guys in...

Went for Valentines Day dinner on 2/13/15. Expected it to be very busy so we went very early, around 530. We walked in and were seated immediately. Ordered medium saki and Kirin. Between my husband and I we had chicken, steak, shrimp, and scallops. Everything was delish and cooked to perfection. Very pleased especially for Dothan. I have been to Benihana and had very low expectations for this place, and while this isn't quite there, it was great! Staff was courteous and accommodating to all the special requests I heard around the table. Our chef had us laughing and put on a very entertaining show.

I was impressed with the food as always but when I reserved table for 16 people for a special bday party, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!.. I spent the day rushing around to make sure things went well. I went by there around 4 to drop off a bday cake to be presented to the birthday girl with candles and all. After we finished our meal, the girl loudly asked if we had a cake and I said yes, yall should already know this. She comes back with the cake still in the box and no candles obviously , hands the box to the birthday girl and starts singing happy birthday!!.. Who does this??!!!!!! Very very disappointed in the lack of common sense service!!!.. Will not be back!!!

Slow service...received our sushi app after we had eaten our hibachi meals. Everything tasted "ok" which is not ok for the amount of money they charge. Was not impressed and will not be returning.
