I've been coming here for years and absolutely love this place. I even bring my guests from out of town. Still my favorite thai place after eating at probably 100+ by now. Staff is great and prices are very reasonable. My favorites are the super crunch roll, spring rolls, coconut soup, pad thai beef, mussuman chicken and sweet and sour chicken. The fried banana is to die for! Enjoy!

Craving Thai while spending the night in Bham, I found Taste of Thailand on Yelp and gave it a go. I had my regular Chicken Panang Curry and Tom Yum soup. The soup was a little on the salty side, but flavorful and well presented. The curry was creamy and very tasty. Portion size was right on and I ordered Hot (one step down from Thai Hot) and it was warm enough. It was a little on the noisy side due to screaming kids, but I guess that means it is a 'family atmosphere' :) Very friendly staff, including the owner who spent time at the tables of regulars. I will definitely go back.

This is one of my usual favorites in B'ham. My parents are big fans of this place too. Lots of options on the menu to satisfy many eaters. Thai, sushi, and vegetarian options. The staff is very friendly and lots of interesting decor throughout the restaurant. Some of my favorite dishes include pad Thai, pineapple curry, Tom kha soup, and spring rolls. Everything I have ever had there has been very fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting good Thai food in B'ham.

First time to this restaurant, we came on the sunday before Labor Day and service was a bit slow but the hosts were gracious and made up for it with their smiles and pleasant manners. The food was well worth the wait. Their green chicken curry is the best I have had in years. The whole red snapper was delicious as was the steamed white fish. Will definitely be returning.

The Fish on Fire at Taste of Thailand is one of my all time favorite dishes. This dish is spicy. Tender white fish fillets are fried to perfection in a light batter. The fish is served with vegetables that are cooked, but still crunchy and bursting with freshness. The veggies include red and green bell pepper, green beans, and onions. Pieces of kaffir lime leaves add a mild tanginess. The unique brown sauce is boasting with flavor that is both sweet and spicy. The depth of the sauce is wonderful and served with white rice. On my lunch visit, the chicken soup was good, but some of the chicken pieces appeared to be undercooked. My wife and I shared a pot of hot tea. The tea was not very hot, but what really irked me is the tea was overpriced. We were charged $3.50 ($1.75 each) for a small pot of warm water and a tea bag.

Ambiance and the hosts are nice. Stopped by to grab some dinner while passing through town, hoping to kick it with some spicy Thai fare. Food is good, however not as spicy as some of the other Thai places (when you order Thai-Spicy that is). The beer was chilled right. Kudos for that.

Best Asian cuisine in Birmingham. Don't be scared of the outside ran down shopping center the inside is nice and food and service is excellent!! Highly recommend.

Seriously yummy. I see no reason to ever visit Surin again. The food here is on a different level. It appears to be prepared with love and care. My taste buds are dancing with delight.

I like the decor even though it is a bit dated and somewhat in need of restoration. I think the white tablecloths and heavy flatware add to the dining experience. Lighting is good. I ordered the green curry beef and it was a nice change from the usual fare. I thought the sweetness of the coconut sauce and the clear taste of coconut was balanced with the heat of the Thai peppers. It was, however, mild for a Thai dish, but, for me, it had exactly the right amount of heat. I would have liked more vegetables, more rice and less beef. The vegetables in the sauce consisted of two small slivers of raw bell pepper and maybe 3/8 cup of English peas and carrots from the frozen mix. Beef was the inexpensive sliced beef. However, the coconut sauce was really good and all together it worked. I would probably try another green curry sauce entree next time, but I will certainly go again.

Very busy place at times. But we were seating immediately. Interior seems to be getting dated, but who can afford unnecessary updates nowadays. Lots of oriental trinkets on display. So you had stuff to stare at if you got bored. Food was very tasty. The portion sizes were definitely on the smaller side compared to other places. So I was still hungry when we left. Prices were about average, but you might consider it overpriced because of the smaller portions.

Delicious Thai food with delicious duck curry. I could hardly finish it but it hit the curry craving that I was searching for. The service is remarkable here and the employees are super nice. The environment has a more tourist-y Thai foreign feel. The environment is open enough to make it also a great family dinner spot. They got a bunch of funny hats on their liquor bottles on their counter. Not sure what that's about but it was fun to look at while I was waiting for my order.

If quality Thai food is what you are looking for, then this is a great choice. The Pad Thai is excellent. The sushi is well done. The restaurant is clean & has a nice ambiance. The service is friendly & accommodating. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is they are a little pricey for the quantity of the food. However, don't let that keep you from a really great dining experience!

We live in Avondale and don't go to Hoover often, but wanted to go to Silver Coin. Inexplicably, they were closed, but since we were already in Hoover, we decided to eat at another restaurant in the shopping center: Taste of Thailand. And what luck! It was delicious. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away. The server's pace was perfect- she took our drink order and gave us time to look at the extensive menu. We ended up ordering the pot stickers, duck curry, and sushi. All of it was delicious! The pot stickers were steamed and then thrown on the grill for a nice char and smoky flavor. The curry was scrumptious! The coconut curry was the perfect blend of sweet and tangy, and the duck was cooked perfectly. We ordered the super crunch and king crunch rolls and weren't disappointed. The server was really nice and checked in at good intervals, and the prices were just right. We highly recommend Taste of Thailand!

We arrived about 2:00PM on Friday afternoon for a late lunch. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately. I was positively struck by the nice atmosphere--interesting statues and decor. I believe it could be a nice environment for a date or intimate conversation. The server was prompt and good. I ordered the cashew vegetables with tofu. It came with a small soup and fried egg roll. The price was reasonable. I was disappointed that the taste was so bland. I will have to try other dishes here before passing final judgement. I would like to be more impressed by the food, considering it's nice atmosphere.

The best Thai food in Birmingham. I love the Basil Chicken. Ask for it medium spicy. It doesn't come spicy. But it is sooo good medium spicy. If you like thai hot then go for it. Just like I had in Bangkok. The sushi rice and fish are the best in bham too. If they don't have a roll on the menu but they have the ingredients you can ask for any combination you can think of. I like the California roll- add green apple or asparagus. So fun.

Walking into Taste of Thailand through the plate glass door, a residential type doorbell sounded. We looked up and saw a heavily wooded and abandoned Sushi bar in the entryway. The only other patron was a man in a business suit at the bar grilling the bartender about his favorite dishes. We were seated around the corner in a green and bamboo booth and our waitress hastily took my drink order, glanced at my boyfriend wordlessly, and then scurried off to get my drink without taking his drink order. Strange. The menu was large and a little disjointed. It's a bit concerning to go to a Thai restaurant and see Sushi, Pho, Chinese dishes and a random Martini menu. I've never seen Pad Thai spelled 'Pud Thai.' And putting aside the fact that Lo Mein has no place in a Thai restaurant, I was at least entertained to see it listed as "Lomain." We ordered an appetizer of Crab Wontons, which arrived with a disproportionately large bowl of plum dipping sauce for the five small bites. My chicken "Pud" Thai arrived and my first thought was that it was unusually pale. The color and mushy texture resembled a risotto more than the vibrant orange staple Thai dish. It completely lacked the lime, chili and fish sauce and instead was overwhelmingly peanut-y. I brought the leftovers to work today and will attempt to salvage it with sweet chili sauce. My boyfriend's house fried rice was similarly disappointing. It was overcooked, bland, and left his shirt and hair smelling suspiciously smoky for hours afterwards. The décor deserves a mention because someone has gone to great lengths to deck it out with a lot of stuff. Kitsch is one thing, but here it was cluttered and chaotic and left us with the vague feeling of being on a cruise ship in the 70s. The elevator music and instrumental Christmas carols didn't help either. The overall impression was that of someone's misguided attempt to be upscale with cloth napkins and heavy tablecloths. Unfortunately, the food certainly didn't reflect that. Though nothing was outrageously wrong with this place, it was, to say the least, forgettable.

Totally legit. This is authentic, affordable and so far seems incredibly consistent. Went for the fist time a couple months ago after hearing great things from quite a few people and we've been back several times now and will continue to go on a regular basis. We're huge fans of Thai food and wish we had discovered this place sooner. Most recent trip was for a friend's birthday who happens to be from Thailand. It's the only place she'll eat Thai food in town and she did all of our ordering. Of the 8 plates that hit the table I've never had any of them in the 200 times I've been out for Thai food in the last 10 or 15 years and I absolutely loved all of them. Such an eye opener and although I'm usually pretty adventurous when it comes to food, I'm a little more conservative when I'm not sure how authentic a place is--and sometimes it's so authentic that I'd just as soon stick to what I know and like because I know it'll be well done. I'm excited to explore the menu further here.

My boyfriend and I usually go to this place. We love the food here. The boss and the waitresses are very nice to us.

We absolutely love this place. The food is wonderful, rainbow roll for our sushi favorite, Thai Spicy Shrimp for favorite stirfry, the curries are all great and my husband can't go without getting the Tom Kha add shrimp. My favorite part of the decor is the unusual statues everywhere and the case with the figurines by the bar. The comments about service on here really boggle me, our service has always been spot on and so friendly.

Best Thai in Birmingham. Have been several times with my wife and some friends and have never been disappointed. Have had Tiger Cry, Green Curry Beef, Pad Khee Mao and several other dishes and enjoyed them all. I slightly prefer the coconut soup at Surin personally but I hardly come here for the soup. Last time I ordered the Pad Khee Mao 'Thai Hot' and the chef brought it out personally (it was fantastic, by the way. I really enjoy spicy food and when I ask for it hot, I mean 'i want to remember it' hot). He is very nice and when not busy will greet customers at the door personally. They also have a good beer selection and the service is very efficient and courteous.

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Birmingham. Been going to Taste of Thailand for 3 years and Mr. Ning's (the owner) former location Thai Emerald for 7 yrs before they tore down the building on 280. My family has hosted family gatherings, graduation, and birthday parties here. This place has the best sushi in the whole state. If you like tuna, get the Houston roll-you will not be disappointed!. Also love the beef noodle soup and red curry chicken but Mrs. Ning's pistachio cake is the hidden gem. Highly recommend this place.

This place is quietly the best place for Thai food in town. Most folks will point you towards a place in the Five Points area but don't believe the hype. Drive your happy tail over to Lorna Road and try this place out. They have a great lunch menu with all the standard Thai fare such as Pud Thai, Green or Red Chicken Curry, Thai Chicken Masala, and Chicken Panang. Their Coconut Soup is the best is town hands down. They also serve Sushi and have a full service bar during dinner.
(5)Mary H.
OMG the best!! I love Thai food and this did not disappoint!!! The sushi is delicious too! And they are quick to get the rolls out!! (That's about the only thing they are quick to get out) The service was awful though so just be prepared for that. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the service. But you should def. Try it, if you like Thai food!
(4)Wood H.
Not a fan of mixed ethnic food. Japanese Sushi & Thai are an odd mixture. Despite that, my green curry shrimp was excellent the satay was just ok, & the spring rolls were only average. Service kind of petered off along the way. After finally getting our check, I must have waited another 10- 15 minutes before picking up my card and leaving $70 cash in order to leave.
(3)Sasha C.
A must go!! Had fantastic coconut milk and shrimp soup and seafood salad as my main course. I looooove a true spicy meal and as they say, "Be careful what you wish for!"... these guys definitely delivered on that: my mouth was on fire for a minute! Lol The true main ingredients to describe why this place is so popular are fresh produce and warm Southern service. A definite go while in Birmingham!!!
(5)Mia B.
I just don't understand the reviews at this place :/ hubby and I ordered pad Thai, Thai fried rice, drunken noodles equivalent. Can I say bland, I have never tasted Thai food so tasteless I was so shocked. Authentic Thai food, far from it! So disappointed, still hoping to find a Thai restaurant in bham that is authentic and not Americanized. I have to give my shout out to chilli Thai in Columbus, now that's authentic Thai food!
(1)Keith B.
Try the Green Curry Beef or the Cashew Chicken. We go every Thursday because they have the Coconut Tom Ka Soup. Its the best!!

Best Thai in B'ham... for a more formal atmosphere, try Thai Emerald off HWY 280... same owners, same food. Fave dishes: chicken penang, beef musuman... thai hot is scortching, so always order one notch down in spiciness
(5)Madison J.
Loved it! We started with the coconut soup and spring rolls. We ordered Thai food (panang chicken and the basil chicken). Loved both. Next time we are trying the sushi, a couple told us its the best.

Nestled in the corner of a strip mall you will find this little gem. The interior décor is very interesting but the food is very good. We stopped by for lunch and I had a marvelous chicken mango cooked extra spicy. It was delicious. My wife had the Pad Thai and it was also very tasty. Nice lunch sized portions which include the soup of the day and an egg roll. Not a 5 star establishment but worth the visit. Service was fast and friendly. If we are ever in the area again we would go back. I would like to try the dinner service before potentially proclaiming "Yay! I'm a fan."

I love this restaurant. It has been opened for over 20 years and I can understand why. Their Thai noodle bowl is so good. You can get it with crunchy or soft noodles. I suggest the crunchy noodles. It gives the dish such a great texture. The chicken was so juicy and it paired so well with the lettace and curry sauce. Go check it out so worth it.
(5)Keira L.
I love everything about this place. I had the pad kee Mao and my boyfriend had the chicken with fried eggs over rice. I've had my fair share of pad kee mao is by far the best in Birmingham. The service and ambience was good as well. Will come back for sure!
(5)Lucas L.
Nice environment and good food. If you love Thai food, this is the right place you should go. It's a good place to date with your lover. I'll visit again.

Picked up dinner here tonight. A combo of some Thai food and sushi. I still haven't figured out why every Asian restaurant in Alabama has to serve sushi, but I digress. I had the super crunch roll and eel nigiri; both were very good. On the Thai food, I picked up beef green curry. Other than the peppers, the vegetables were obviously frozen mixed vegetables like you can get at any grocery store. I asked for insanely "Thai" hot but it was barely spicy. The curry sauce was tasty but I think anything with coconut milk in it tastes good. It's a convenient location but far from the best Thai food I've ever had.

I guess I just don't see what all the fuss is about. I thought this place was just okay. Went here with a friend recently, and I expected something fabulous because of my friend's hype. Unfortunately it was just blah. I was starving, and craving sushi. I looked at the sushi menu, only to find that it was minimal, with bland options. It took me about ten minutes to decide what to order, because I wasn't even sure it was worth it. I ended up getting one of the day's sushi specials. It had crab and salmon and came with spicy and sweet sauce. It wasn't bad, but I think that the majority of my reason for eating it was because it was so damn expensive for the quality. Because I wasn't sure how I would like the sushi, I also got the roasted duck. It was pretty horrible, but because I was starving and the sushi hadn't come yet, I tried to eat it. I grabbed my friend's sauce and tried to mask the taste but that didn't work. So there went that. Based on food alone, I'd probably give two stars... but the service was exceptionally polite, so add a star. Also I tasted my friend's soup, which wasn't bad.. so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Needless to say, I won't be back.
(3)Bill R.
Taste of Thailand has been creating fresh and favorable food for years. The service is friendly and the sushi delicious. Great for lunch or dinner.
(4)Brian C.
Taste of Thailand would be lost in a town with more Thai options but in Birmingham they are a standout when driving to Atlanta or Nashville is not an option. Most of the dishes are too sweet for my tastes and they really don't do anything Thai hot so if you like some serious heat, plan on adding spice at the table.
(3)Tina W.
You won't find advertisement because they share it through word of mouth. The owners shared this knowledge with me a few years ago. So here I am to share a great find with you. ;) The food on the menu is also great, but I rarely get to it thanks to the delicious sushi menu! Tom Yum or Tom Kha soup is a must. I believe this would have to be my fav. sushi spot in town, at least.
(5)Jessie G.
Wonderful food, great prices and stellar service. We order takeout several times a month from this restaurant and it is always ready within 15 minutes. Great curry and Pad Thai. Their Tom Kha soup is probably the best coconut soup I've ever tasted. Service inside the restaurant is also great. If six stars were an option Taste of Thailand would have it hands down.
(5)Frenchelle T.
The food is terrific and the staff very friendly. It's always a treat when I have the chance to eat here. The sushi is quite good as well.
(5)Andrew M.
I broke my first rule of yelp. I was hungry and reacted to the star rating and did not read the reviews... I guess I dont understand why Thai places serve sushi. On top of that, I dont understand why people go to Thai places for sushi. I'm tired of this androgynous pan asian fiasco. Just pick one and stick with it. Ok, with the rant over, I decided to give this place a try due to the great reviews. Upon further inspection of the reviews, I should have known better; it seemed like everyone loved the sushi there, and not the Thai. With that said, here is the food breakdown: Pad See-Ew: Usually my favorite and a good litmus test for Thai noodles. The noodles were dry and the sauce was non-existent. I dont think I can ever recall this dish ever being dry, so this was a major disappointment. I asked for basil fried rice, "sorry sir, we do not have that, we used to, but not any more". What a let down as well. I settled for the beef fried rice. The rice was average, a little on the mushy side and more spicy than flavorful. I really wanted to like this place and hope they can just get there stuff together. Maybe consider shutting down, changing the name to Taste of Sushiland and re-open.
(2)Kaylyn A.
I've been going here for at least 15 years. 8 years ago, I would have given it 5 stars. The owner opened up Thai Emerald and his wife runs this place...so a little less care is taken to it as for it is located on Lorna Road. NOONE can beat their Pad Thai! (Tip: don't try it to go. Peanut sauce dries it out). Their sushi is decent and any shrimp dish is yummy. Great atmosphere and service... every time.
(4)Sloe R.
Five is the number of times I've eaten here - in one week! In addition to the convenient location, I think the food is consistently delicious! Is it the best Thai food I've had? Probably not. Frankly, I'd knock off half a star. But it's nice to frequent a place that doesn't surprise you...with disappointment. Green curry beef is a hit and so are the various chicken dishes on the menu - Basil Chicken, Thai Style Chicken, etc etc...Thai Hot is the only way to go along with a side of chili flakes because I like my stuff over the top! My only regret is not sampling the sushi menu. Next time, though...I'm just happy that Birmingham, AL actually has some tasty ethnic food!
(4)N J.
Why is it hard to understand vegetarian concept? It's not a rocket science. Wow!! Food was average. had better. i went there because people at work recommended it. i was very disappointed.
(3)matt d.
Only been for lunch- On Tue/Thru you get free coconut soup and spring roll with most (maybe all) dishes. Both are VERY good. Pad-thai is fair/good. Service at lunch is ALWAYS slow but is friendly. Ask for your check well before you are ready to leave and you should be okay. Otherwise, your hour lunch will take 1.5. review updated . Had Pad-thai at a few others places on business trips. Turns out, Taste of Thailand's is just fair.
(4)Pam F.
What can I say I love this place. I have had a lot of sushi but this place is great for a local restaurant.
