For a chain restaurant I was pretty impressed. The barbecue shrimp appetizer is amazing and was my favorite dish. Steak tip appetizers were a little too dry but flavor was good.. crab cakes were just a wee bit too fishy tasting. Wild mushroom ravioli was pretty good and fresh tasting. I came for a wedding reception but I can understand the food may not be worth the money. There are more delicious things to eat in bham that are a better bang for your buck :)

We recently dined here for a special celebration. I can't begin to tell you what a disappointment it was. We were a party of 12. 5 of our meals went back because they were served COLD. cold crab cakes. Cold steak. Sides were cold. Cold crab mac n cheese? Condiments weren't served after being asked for twice or three times. Drinks, the same story. Empty cocktail glasses. Empty tea glasses. Oh, and the molten lava cake? Not so molten. You guessed it, cold. The managers idea of a solution, give us ONE MEAL on the house. Oh thanks so much for your kind offer. She should have begged us to come back for another chance because I can promise you this, we won't.

Not worth the visit. We ordered 6 different sandwiches and meals and had issues with all of them. The club was the only one good but cold. Much better places to go in the area. Not again. Our second bad meal here.

Me and my wife ate there again this past Saturday night. We had the crab cake which was good considering we were in Birmingham and not anywhere they can have access to fresh crab like at the beach. I had the New York strip which was cooked rarer then I had asked for. My wife had the 8oz filet it was cooked they way she liked and both steaks did taste good. We had a chocolate lava cake for desert that was burnt. The outside was very hard. The bread and good the service was good. One thing that did bother me was that we are in Alabama and they didn't serve sweet tea.

I don't know why it's in ten best of Birmingham. Terribly expensive and steak had no flavor. Sides were not good either such a disappointment

We just popped in here for drinks, but I thought this place was perfect for a hotel bar. Dim lighting, dark wood, strong drinks and helpful servers. Since I didn't have any food, I'm not sure I should review the place, but I felt like it was worth speaking up! The bartenders were very helpful, and to their credit really did due diligence with our IDs. They really checked them closely! But strong drinks came quickly, and they checked on us just the right amount. Maybe they liked us because we were polite and quiet, in stark contrast to some other, more rowdy customers elsewhere at the bar! In any case, I enjoyed my boozy visit to Shula's.

TERRIBLE experience. We booked a table for a group of 14, and planned to drop about $2K on some 5 star food. Seated in the back room, however, it became clear that only one waiter had been assigned to our party. The appetizers trickled in at a very slow pace. When his appetizer failed to show up, our main dude, who picks up the check, was told that the restaurant ran out of shrimp. Slightly bummed, we proceeded to wait 2.5 hrs until our main courses arrived. Our main dude did not get his steak, and sat around staring at his phone as everyone else dug in. When the steak arrived, it was a cold, bloody mess. I saw a bus boy ONCE during the entire evening. Our guys began to get up and pour themselves water. I should mention that the restaurant was practically EMPTY, aside from 2 or 3 tables with couples. When no apologies or explanations were offered, we finally began to complain. Loudly. After I paid a visit to the kitchen asking for the manager, I finally was heard and told they were short staffed. Rather then mentioning to us that the restaurant was not equipped to serve us, the management chose in stead to ruin our evening with shitty service. In the end we got 30% of the bill comped, but that's beside the point. We were not looking for a free meal, or a discount. We came to feast on some top notch food and service, and got ignored and shunned in some backroom.. Do not go here.

Ordered strip steak for a late lunch. The asparagus was perfect but the steak was medium-well instead of rare. Bartender took it back and got me a very rare steak and topped off my wine to make up for it. It was a good value for lunch.

I have been to Shulas several times. The Kansas City strip is excellent. Service is always top notch. I love the ambience. It's nice to be able to eat without screaming kids all over the place.

Very disappointed. I was not very hungry, so I ordered French onion soup. Good portion, the cheese was melted but the soup was warm at best. Bartenders favorite and suggestion. Run!

Honestly, for the class of restaurant that Shula's proclaims to be, it can only receive 2 stars. We're not comparing to Outback or Logan's here, but to Ruth's, Flemings, Bern's, etc. I appreciate that Shula's was open for Thanksgiving, and it was an enjoyable meal. The Pre-fixe brunch menu was reasonably priced. Our servers were attentive, but forgetful. Our appetizer order never arrived. I didn't see the bill and hope it wasn't included. Cold was the theme of the day. Cold coffee, cold potatoes, undercooked steaks. Lucky for me, my wife's medium filet was delivered medium rare - so I finished it off for her. Otherwise, the molten lava cake and apple cobbler desserts were very good and more than we could finish.
My husband and I traveled in from Atlanta. We were just staying the night. I would have to say that the server and the wine were the best parts of the dinner. We ordered lobster bisque. It was runny and had very little lobster. Hal' is Atlanta trumps this lobster bisque a thousand times. I was not super hungry so I ordered the lump crab cake. Not sure where the lump in the description came from. It was like a fried crab cake from Applebee's. Lots of bread. My husbands steak was ok. Cooked correctly, but over buttered. For the price we paid the food should have been great, but it was a huge disappointment. Go somewhere else! Don't waste your money!

Great wine list by the glass. Food is really good too. A bit more expensive than most stek houses. I took points off for stale bread, I ate on Sunday and I assume the bread came in on Friday. Personally, I'd rather not have bread than get stale bread heated up to hide the staleness

We went to Shula's for the first time recently for my birthday. I had never been before and had high expectations, considering the location and prices. I have to say I was underwhelmed by the experience. Two stars means "meh. I've experienced better" and that describes it perfectly. Let me start by saying that nothing was bad. There was just nothing that screamed $75 per person (no alcohol involved in the bill). The decor is very nice, the white tablecloth table was roomy after the waiter pulled out the leaves, and the floor plan allowed for a more intimate, separate room feel instead of one large dining area. I started with the Lobster Bisque that had a distinct fishy taste with one small piece of chewy lobster that was inedible. My wife had the french onion soup, however, that was absolutely incredible. The sides are big enough to share, so we opted for the Crab Mac & Cheese and the Potatoes Gratin. The mac & cheese was the highlight of the meal, in my opinion. Huge pieces of lump crab meat mixed in with a spiral shaped pasta, a nice bechamel sauce, and a crispy crust. The gratin potatoes were pretty good, though the crust had a few burnt spots. My main course was the 12oz. Filet Oscar. There was a generous portion of lump crabmeat on top, with a nondescript hollandaise sauce along with a dice of asparagus and red peppers. I ordered medium-rare, but the steak was a little over. Overall the flavor was good, but "meh. I've experienced better". My wife had the 8oz. filet and ordered it medium. It was cooked correctly and she seemed to enjoy the flavor. There was no doubting the steak quality. Because it was my birthday, the waiter offered a complimentary dessert. I incorrectly opted for the creme brulee. It was served in three tiny ramekins in three flavors, with a side of whipped cream and a strawberry. It was refrigerator cold on top (meaning the crust wasn't freshly torched) and one of the ramekins was so underdone that it was the consistency of soup. The waiter noticed and offered a replacement but I told him that it was ok and I couldn't complain because it was free. As mentioned before, nothing was bad. This is a very good restaurant, but I just didn't feel the value for the prices they charge. My steak was good, but not $52 good. My soup was nowhere near $12 good and my dessert was priced just right at $0. There is a much better meal to be had at Ruth's Chris for slightly less money. The steaks are more flavorful, the sides are better, and the focus is on the food, not the owner.

I have dined at Shula's a number of times, and now I am completely convinced. The best steak in town is the Cowboy steak at Shula's. Twenty-two ounce, bone-in rib-eye cooked medium. OMG.. It was so delicious, I can't wait until my anniversary for another occasion to dine there.. I also highly recommend the crab cakes. The cakes are so delicious. They have large pieces of sweet crab meat in a flavorful mixture of bread crumbs and seasoning. I've had them as appetizer, but I would be pleased to have the crab cakes as my main entree. Shula's is expensive, but it sooo good!

The food here is decent, but only OK for the prices you are paying... I ordered the lamb which was ok. I also tried a piece of the rib-eye which was a bit better. I probably will not be going back here because the steaks at Firebird's are definitely better.

While I didn't have a real meal here I did have dessert. I can say dessert couldn't be better. The dessert is a little expensive but well worth it. We had the ice cream with the peanut brittle bowl. Wow! I had mine served with a Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. I couldn't ask for a better dessert.

Service was not good or attentive. Food was 2 of the three items ordered was bad. Calamari was fishy. Blackend steak tips on the salad was not edible. Pork chops were ok. Only decent item. Obviously did not meet expectations and would not recommend.

A few years back I had eaten at Shula's in Salt Lake City and had a really good experience. We saw they had one in Birmingham, so we thought we'd give it a try and everything was absolutely perfect! Beautiful steaks, vegetables, appetizers -- everything right down to the bread was scrumptious. The service is impeccable and I look forward to my next trip to Shula's in whatever city I may happen to be. The steak menu is presented on a football signed by Coach Shula. How cool is that? I'm still processing in my head that there are people who can eat a 48oz. Steak at one sitting. That's impressive.

For the price, this place is terrible! The service is bad, the food is ok and the atmosphere is lacking. There were three tables that had people at it when we were there and it took us two hours to eat!!! That should not happen. Look for this place to close down within the next few months.

Go to Shula's for a fine dining steak meal in Birmingham. I still think Flemings is all around better but Shulas comes close behind. My favorite meal here is to start wiith the Crab cakes, the wedge salad, 12oz filet cooked medium with the creamed spinach side. The side dishes are definitely large enough to share, so if there are two people dining I would order 2 if there are 3 people order 3, etc... I usually don't eat dessert anywhere, BUT here it is so good. If you are still hungry and have a sweet tooth by the end of the meal order the molten chocolate lava cake or the creme brulee. Very classy, upscale decor located inside The Wynfrey Hotel. Can be a great date night, special occasion dinner or nice business meeting. You can park in the hotels garage and get your parking ticket validated.

I was traveling by myself and wanted a nice dinner. When I went to Shula's no host or hostess greeted me, I had to track down a server in order to be seated. They have a tomato mozzarella salad with chopped lettuce and tomatoes, unfortunately it was drowned in the balsamic vinaigrette, I could not finish it. I made it a point to ask my server for their definition of a steak with a warm pink center and he said medium, but mine came out too rare. My entree took 45 minutes to come out and the filet mignon was not cooked enough. After sending it back it still was not cooked enough, however, after waiting so long to be served I didn't send it back again I just cut out the middle and ate the rest. On top of all of this my veggies were not very good either, my sautéed spinach was too salty and the baked potato was not cooked all the way through. The server was nice but this resturant needs a chef, not a cook. Restaurants: PLEASE stop hiding your bad cooking with salt! If I want it salted I can do it myself at the table.
