This place is just about as close to hole in the wall as it gets. Enter in from the back and you go down a lonnnnnngggggg hallway to get to the front. Enter from the front and boom you are in line to order. Order what you like and it will be good. Hamburgers to Hot dogs. The slaw dogs are great. My brother has to order 3 at a time. I was good with 1.5. You will not be disappointed, bring cash!

Great, greasy, downhome burgers made right in front of your face. I always get the double bacon cheeseburger and load it with sriracha sauce. So good. Come hungry, order with conviction, and sit outside to devour your most excellent selection of good eats.

I love this place! They have fun ice and fun people working there. It is in a great location in Homewood. They have seating outside that is oh so fabulous. The people and service here are so friendly and great. My friends always get breakfast sandwiches from here, like bacon, egg and cheese. And for lunch they get the hamburger and french fries or hot dogs.

The dogs are awesome! But I don't think they like working with the public. Cash only

Interestingly, Birmingham has a lot of good hot dog spots. This place is something special. Sam was an original owner of Sneaky Pete's and held onto his spot when the family sold out years ago. Sam and crew make great dogs, burgers, and breakfast. The bacon egg and cheese samwich is on a burger bun and is fantastic (mayonaise is optional). I have eaten here 100+ times and it is always good. I recommend the slaw dog or the Super Bacon Cheese Burger. Sam's is a Homewood institution and look forward to eating my Saturday lunch here for years to come.

sams is the best, however get a burger with slaw and sauce. when you return to the office, folks will know from where you have come. top flight service

Been here a ton, landmark spot for unhealthy delicious food! Have cleared most of the menu, except for breakfast. Sam is a stud and knows most of his customers by name. Also repping a Samford Hat, which is a plus!

The service and sandwiches were just the way I like them: Simple. I'll definitely be back.

Its faster, tastier, and greasier than any fast food. I wouldn't eat here everyday, but if I'm in the mood for junk, there's no place better. When 5 bucks can get you enough lunch to fill you up, it's a winner. Roast beef is delicious, piled high with meat and a sauce that's superb. Almost has the feel of the old Pete's hotdogs downtown.

Every town needs a shotgun-style, cheap/greasy burger & dog hole in the wall (if ever in Roanoke, VA the 24-hour Texas Tavern is a can't miss). I was first introduced to Super Sam's with a breakfast sammich--it was good, but I don't know about drive 30 minutes out of the way good (coworker insisted, back in my pool cleaning days). Nonetheless, I'm glad he did, because from then on I knew Sam's would be there for me when I needed him and his greasy, cheap quick eats.

A Homewood institution this hole in the wall joint with get you in and out in no less than 15 minutes. Really helps when you are trying to eat quick and get back to work. They have burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and more. Its just great filling food. The price is right and the vibe is right. Go check them out.

Hotdog happiness that's great for making your mouth smile and your tummy expand.

Line out the door today, but it moved fast. I had a super cheeseburger. It was pretty awesome. Very efficient and quick. Parking is the only issue with this place but that's like most hot dog/sandwich shops. Worth it.

It ain't Highlands, but they make one helluva hot dog. One note regarding a previous review. Sam's does indeed take plastic. Since my kids always look my wallet for cash, I never have any. If I couldn't use a debit card, I'd starve to death.

Sam's is the perfect quick burger and dog joint. They are fast, cheap, and horrible for you... just like they should be. You can seriously get in and out of there for around five bucks. There's seating on the sidewalk out front. It gets you out of the crammed shotgun store and let's you people watch on the streets of Homewood. If you are in the neighborhood and looking for a quick breakfast or lunch, look no further.

This is everything I want in a burger place. Fast, cheap and delicious.

I was taken to Sam's for breakfast by a local while in town traveling. The establishment is small and "old school" - set up exactly like any corner deli in NYC or the surrounding areas. Everyone inside was a local, and they were all talking and joking with one another. You walk up to the counter and order from Sam himself, unfortunately when I got up to the counter I had no idea what to order as I didn't see a breakfast menu and the person I was with wasn't kind enough to give me the inside on what to order. Luckily Sam said "bacon, egg, and cheese?", and I of course said "absolutely". Not more than one or two minutes later and I had a delicious looking bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a moist roll. We sat down at the counter to eat our sandwiches ... wow was it good. Really good. Honestly, I had never had a breakfast sandwich down South (usually suasage gravy, buiscits, grits, ect.) and didn't think any place would have it in it to comete with the deli and bagel shops I had been going to for breakfast my whole life, but this definitely competes and then some. This was up there with one of the better breakfast sandwiches that I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. If I ever find myself in the area again, I will definitely be making a point of visiting Sam's for breakfast. I would love to try a burger and/or dog next time for lunch too.

We lost Pete's Famous and Lyric Hot Dog, but we've still got Sam's. I'm not a slaw dog type person, but this place might have changed my mind.

We had two super dogs and they were awesome! The service was friendly and quick too. I highly suggest telling exactly the flavor of chips you want though otherwise it's plain. :) The prices were very reasonable as well. We will be going back often.

A great little greaseburger place. Birmingham-style burger with onions and barbecue sauce, made right there by a dude who's probably worked there since the 60s. (They were getting busy; otherwise I would've quizzed the guys for a little history lesson on the place.) The single burger was dang good. The (supposed) owner actually talked me out of the more expensive double after finding out that I wasn't ravenous. Tons of charm: the menu is on one of those old-fashioned press-letter marquis boards. The restaurant-cum-lunchstand is a grand total of 10' wide. My kids wouldn't understand why all this makes me very happy...other than a great burger.

This may be one of the few places you can eat in Homewood without going broke and leave satisfied. I have had breakfast there a few time and it is always good. I decided to stop by and grab a burger. It is much easier to park in the back in the parking lot and go through the back entrance. I got the super burger with bacon. It is a two patty burger about the size of my head. I took it to go and it was still delicious after the 30 minute ride home. If you want a great burger and a great value skip all fancy burger boutiques and head here.
