A true "soul food" restaurant--tasty traditional southern food! We arrived about 2:00PM on Sunday, and the street was parked up with people going to Eagles. We arrived to find the waiting line going out of the door. Even at this hour, it took 30-45 minutes of standing for us to get our food. There is seating inside this tiny place, but it would be very uncomfortable to be in a booth with people crowded standing in the room, standing above you eating. Clearly a popular place. We ordered one of every main meal (pork chops, chicken, ox tail) and every side (mac & cheese, candied yams, greens, green beans, creamed corn), with corn bread. All tasted great but was very greasy. I could not eat like this regularly. I felt the price was high, but one did get quite a bit of food. Eagles is certainly a place worth visiting.

Had high hopes for this dive features on food network and with such high yelp marks, but no such luck on first (maybe last) visit. Genuine dive alright with only street parking, counter service and dated dingy interior with 5 booth tables gives you the impression the food must certainly be something special. I wanted oxtails, but they wanted $15 instead of $8 for the other meat and 2 options, so I opted for the cubed steak, which was a little tough and not very flavorful in packaged gravy. The collards were extremely greasy, swimming in oil and masking and flavor the greens might had originally had. The black eyed peas were the best thing on my plate, but nothing special. Even the cornbread was coated in oil, not butter. Bf ordered the cubed steak and rice, which he liked ok, but could not even eat the Mac and cheese, which was the orange color of chemicals, not real cheese. And the worst was that the sign read fresh squeezed lemonade no refills, but it was unmistakably country time powdered mix. Booooooo!!!!! Bham, we can't show the world better soul food than this?

Utterly delicious soul food. The oxtails are like the most savory, tender stew meat you've ever tasted. Tasty sides, too, like mac and cheese and black-eyed peas. You can see the daily menu online and even pre-order or pay with bitcoin.

Tucked away near Nikki's and Finnley Blvd, Eagle's is a rare find. If you happen to be nearby, don't hesitate to drop in and get lunch. You'll be glad you did. They've got everything you'd expect from a soul food place, and the quality was superb. The chicken and dressing, corn bread, candied yams, and fried corn were all excellent! They also have ox tail and chitterlings on somedays as well. My only suggestion is try to arrive before 12. It can and will get very busy around lunch. It's about $10 a plate, but it's worth it cause they load it up. And get it to go so you can take the rest home with you, cause I doubt you'll be able to eat it all at once.

Had the beef tips and rice with Mac n cheese, candied yams, and cornbread... SOOOO GOOD!!! Everything was cooked perfectly. Beef tender. Rice perfectly soft and soaked up the sauce. Candied yams were like a dessert. Mac n cheese was definitely homemade like grandma made it! We just moved to the Birmingham area and saw this place on food network with Andrew Zimmerman so we decided to try it and see how Alabama soul food is. We weren't disappointed at all! We will be coming back very soon.

This is one of those meals you have to eat hot , cuz when you re heat the leftovers there awful. The oxtails where coated in fat barely any meat at all the collard greens and yams where good and the black eye peas where great. The cornbread was awful and the establishment isn't the cleanest of nicest looking .

I bought a delicious lunch plate from Eagle's. I bought chicken and dressing with Mac & Cheese and Collard greens. I could not eat it all. I had to reheat my Food for dinner last night. I would recommend Eagle's Restaurant. But you have to wait in line to get the food.

We found this place on yelp and loved it! We read the review in the Birmingham post, it was like reading food porn. Go here! We went on a Monday and got beef tips, barbecued chicken and meatloaf. The beef tips and meatloaf were exceptional and the chicken was good but mostly barbecue sauce. Loved the macaroni and cheese, got two orders of it! The lemonade is out of this world as well. Definite future stop when we come down next.

Just moved into town a couple of months back and friend of mine suggested we hit up Eagles for some real Southern soul food. Now this place did not disappoint. This is your no frills, home cooked, tasty, hope you came with an appetite kind of place. I had the oxtail, collard greens, and mac and cheese. Every single thing was fantastic, especially the oxtail. They also give you two pieces of corn bread that are probably some of the best I've ever had. I had to literally take a nap after the meal. Will be back because I gotta bring the wife.

I learned about Eagle's Restaurant from one of Andrew Zimmern's shows and recently had the opportunity to visit while passing through Birmingham. Restaurants with one door in and out usually are the best places. Dine-in seating is limited; this place is small. I was able to get a booth as most patrons were getting food to-go. The menu varies daily. The plates come with a meat, two sides and corn muffins. I ordered oxtails, black-eyed peas and candied yams. Later, I added an additional side of collard greens for an additional $2. The food was good and season just right, IMO. Not bland or over salted. These fresh squeezed lemonade was good and not too sweet for my palate. There is ample parking on the street and there is a small lot adjacent to the restaurant. The members of the staff are friendly; Eagle's Restaurant is worth visiting again!

Let's make this short and sweet: it's a hole-in-the-wall that sells great soul food. If you're looking for a classy setup, this is not your spot. However, if you want delicious food at a reasonable price, from a restaurant that's been in business since the 1950's, check this place out. They serve your traditional soul food choices- ox tails, fried/baked chicken, meatloaf, chitterlings, Mac and cheese, greens, fried corn, peach cobbler, Kool-Aid and more. You may want to check their website because not all selections are available everyday. On Sundays there's always a crowd, but the line moves fairly quick. The staff is very friendly, which is always a plus.

Best oxtail and greens I've had. The oxtail isn't cheap, but one plate has got to contain at least two pounds of food. On Sundays, the line wraps all the way around the interior of the restaurant, but it moves pretty fast. You may want to opt for takeout on Sunday. You'll want to go easy on breakfast and dinner if you head here for lunch - it's worth it. There are some really nice folks working here and they sure know how to cook. It's a no frills place, but the food is SOLID.

Eagles Restaurant 2610 16th St North Birmingham al. Amazing comfort food on the north side of town. It's located in a bit of a rough section of town so go during the lunch hours. Get there early because they run out of the good stuff. Everything's great, if you're in the mood go for meat and three veggies. Try the oxtails too, they're not available everyday but simply AWESOME! Urban Cowgill

Great place for reasonably priced soul food. I stop here whenever I can (couple of times per year). Small with limited seating - mostly a takeout joint. Very good fried chicken. Staff is friendly. I would give 5 stars if they would expand the menu a bit.

After seeing this place on Bizarre Foods America, I had to check it out. It is definitely fantastic. While I didn't grow up on soul or southern food being a Yankee, I have developed a great appreciation for it. While this place is down the street from the much, much bigger Niki's West, Eagle's offers their food in a much more down-home, no-frills, non-gentrified environment which I like. And you can basically get out Eagle's spending $4-5 less than at Niki's. I've been about a dozen times, so far and have had everything from the neck bones seen on TV, meatloaf, baked chicken, and beef stew. The meatloaf and neckbones are my favorite dishes on the menu. The mac & cheese and collards are outstanding. Check their website before you go as the menu changes daily and get there early; once they run out of something, they're out. Open for lunch only.
