Shuffleboard, cocktails, beer and music...its all great! Brian makes a killer Moscow Mule and the bar hosts a shuffleboard league on Mondays in the spring. The bar doesn't serve food but you can bring it from any of the surrounding restaurants. The atmosphere is relaxed and I love it.

I'm a fan of 41st Street Pub for 4 different reasons! (1) the awesome location that is in Avondale across the street from Avondale Brewery, Post Office Pies, & Saw's, (2) the great selection of craft beer, drinks, and the delicious Moscow Mule (they actually use real ginger beer and not dreadful Buffalo Rock used at many local locations!),(3) the super friendly staff including Brian (FYI: his beard, taste in T-shirts, and attitude are pretty awesome), and lastly (4) the assortment of games (shuffleboard, darts, and various board games) to get into over drinks with friends in the rustic and modern bar space! Lately, I find myself coming back to play darts, enjoy the great drinks, and cozy space in good company! By the way, I find it better to stop by earlier in the evening on the weekends to enjoy the pub without the overcrowding that typically comes by 11 p.m.

Enjoyed my evening touring Avondale. First time in this bar and as the night went on it filled up pretty quickly. Truly enjoyed the signature Moscow mule as i have heard they are indeed the best in the city. Great vibe and enjoyed my drinks with great friends. I will return

I visited 41st for the first time with a friend on what seemed to be a typical crowded Saturday night and sat at the bar for an hour or two. Overall my experience would have been only average if not for this one bar tender who was working like a beast! It was apparent that this guy really cared about what he was doing and was going to do the best job humanly possible that night. His service was fantastic but watching him work was most enjoyable. I've never seen a bartender work so hard in my life and frankly it was a blast just watching him bust it and give 110% effort. Sweat was flying, waters were being slung, margaritas were being mixed. I have no idea what his name is but kudos to him, I will be returning soon.

Great drinks. Cool decor. They even have shuffleboard! I haven't been able to make it yet, but I hear they have movie night on Mondays. I do wish they served food. Good drink menu and friendly staff.

Best MOSCOW MULES!!!! Best!!!! Cool games and booths. Smoking area outside. Nice staff. Clean bathrooms. I highly recommend!!!
(4)Drina B.
Brian the bartender is a joy and the atmosphere is definitely great. It's kinda dark, but that's the only thing that I didn't really like. Other than that... I will definitely be back. I have to try the signature mule when I'm in a drinking mood. I only had the recommended root beer this go round.
(5)Thomas B.
Ok I fly on a helicopter for a living so anything aviation related catches my eye. It was right by Avondale brewing so we stopped in. Was slow being a Sunday night but that was fine. Brian the weekend bartender was awesome. The atmosphere was cool. The Dark and Stormy in the copper mug was amazing! We're coming back on Monday for movie night!
(5)Massimo F.
This is a cool place! Drinks selection is not "wild" but anything they make is carefully done and served. I love their "Old Dutch International Moscow Mule" mug for its aesthetic, even if it really lacks in terms of practicality (winter-time it's going to freeze your fingers). Space is not huge, but for sure is not a small place. Bartenders are very nice and professional! Fun spot, recommended

A good place to have a beer after Avondale closes. Cool environment especially with the shuffle board tables

I've found my new favorite watering hole. Any place that actually knows that rye goes into a proper old fashioned has my vote. But, when they offer a selection of rye with personal insight for said cocktail, they have my heart. 41st Street Pub & Aircraft Sales, I love you. And hey, if I am ever able to buy a plane, you're obviously at the top of my list for that, too. The atmosphere is dark but not grim, wooden but not too cabin-y, the crowd a pleasant mix, and there are games to spare. A full menu of beverages plus daily specials (on Wednesday you get a shot of whiskey and a beer - I just love that even though I don't drink beer) is just what Avondale needed to balance out the brewery and Parkside (which does not offer up cocktails, just mixed drinks). My old fashioned was so good it went down way too fast - thank you Bullet Rye!!! I can't wait to go back to properly establish myself as a local at this fabulously appointed pub. note: deduction of one star because they don't serve food. if food was available this would be my office!

I was a little nervous about this place, but after some friends convinced me into going, I'm glad I listened. The super friendly staff was so patient and helpful with my indecisiveness and pointed me in the direction of their (in)famous drink-- the Moscow Mule. Don't question it (unless some creeper brings it to you; then question it). Just drink it. Until visiting this bar, the only thing I ever learned on a Saturday night was that preppy white men get a little racist when they drink (I found that out while hanging outback) but here I learned SHUFFLE BOARD! They have very cozy seating and lots of room to relax. Overall this bar was a fun and memorable experience.
(4)Daniel B.
The friendly staff here makes it an easy choice of where to go when you want a quality drink. Whether it be their speciality 'Moscow mule' or my favorite the 'ultimate old fashioned', you get a fantastic drink. 41st has a relaxing atmosphere with coaches, darts, and the only shuffleboard in town. It's a great spot to stop by in the revitalized Avondale neighborhood! They do not have food service but pick up Saws soul food or post office pies and enjoy it with a quality refreshment!
(5)Wes C.
Cocktails? Yeah, they got 'em. Their specialty is a great drink called the Moscow Mule. Traditionally served in a copper mug, it's a mix of lime juice, vodka, and ginger beer. (Tip, substitute Dark Rum and it becomes a Dark and Stormy!). They also have full size shuffleboard tables and steel tip dartboards. The real reason I keep coming back is their scotch selection. They have some serious islay scotches at very good prices. Lagavulin 16 is my favorite and they carry it. Meredith, the weekend bartender is pretty awesome too. Why didn't I give it five stars? Because while they do have a few couches and nice barstools, the booths are uncomfortable and the outdoor seating is absolutely atrocious if you are with more than 2 people.
(4)Julia M.
This place is great! There is plenty of seating for large and small parties. It gets pretty crowded on the weekends. Actually, avoid coming here on the weekends entirely. It's fun, but nothing compared to during the weekdays. During the week, 41st gets really slow. Like, I've come here a couple of times and been one of maybe a dozen people on a Tuesday evening. This is definitely a positive thing, though, because you can play all the shuffleboard you want! During the weekends, there is always some large group hogging both boards all night. By the way, there's also a dart board in the back and Pac Man on one of the side walls. I haven't tried the Moscow Mule yet because I thought it was just beer for some dumb reason, but everyone says it's the best. They make a tasty Long Island. If you're in the neighborhood but want something with a bit more kick than Avondale beer, 41st is a great stop. Of course, they will let you bring in food from the local restaurants.
(4)Robyn T.
The drinks are great, the bartender is friendly and they let you bring outside food in (think Post Office Pies across the street). This is a great spot to hang out with friends and get a game or two of shuffleboard in.
(5)Danielle S.
Another great bar in the Avondale area. The decor is subtle with exposed brick, steel beams, large glass windows facing the street, wooden bench seating throughout and two large sitting areas up front with leather couches. The bar is stocked with just about anything you're looking for, but they don't have a large draft beer selection. That's fine with me since I'm usually there for a bourbon and water or their signature drink, the Moscow Mule. This is an addictive combination of vodka, ginger beer and lime. It's served in a copper mug to keep it cold the whole time you're sipping on it. It your conversation turns a bit dry, they have darts, 2 shuffleboard tables, and some board games to play at your table. It gets pretty busy on the weekends, but you can still get a drink just fine. The only problem is they have single-occupancy bathrooms for men and women, so expect a line.
(4)Will L.
Guys, they've got shuffleboard. Seriously, it's a real life, full-length shuffle board. Oh, do I need to keep going? Ok, let's see... They've also got great seating areas. There are a few couch surrounded coffee tables that come equipped with classic board games. The bartenders are always friendly and make a mean Moscow Mule. It's there specialty drink and even though I don't do vodka often, I make an exception for the Mule. I'd suggest going early or on an off night. This place gets pretty packed. When it does, all of these wonderful things I've told you about become hard to enjoy.
(4)Brad H.
Had to try this mysterious Moscow Mule signature drink, and let's just say I now am the proud owner of my very own copper mug. Yep, enjoyed the drink and how cold the mug kept it so much that I hopped on eBay and bought a set of copper mugs. This pub is great--shuffleboard was loads of fun, and the dim lighting was perfect. Will be back for sure.
(4)Andrew M.
Fun venue. Low-key but still a good energy. Shuffle board and darts are a nice touch. The drinks were good. Moscow Mule from a copper mug is unique to the Bham area. The one drawback is the lack of any true direction in atmosphere and decor, but it is a good place to grab a few drinks and relax.
(3)Allison B.
When i lived in Birmingham, I never jumped on the Avondale bandwagon, but that's because there was no 41st Street Pub and Aircraft Sales. There seems to be ample parking, which is always a plus. The decor is classic and comfortable. There are several different options for seating from booths to couches and arm chairs. There are board games scattered throughout to keep patrons engaged and busy while they sip cocktail classics that so many people have forgotten about. Unfortunately, I was unable to play shuffleboard due to the long line, but that's OK. There is always next time. I was introduced to the Moscow Mule in Nashville and fell in love. I was delighted to see that it was the house drink at 41st Street Pub. The Mule is just a delicious as I remember and its served in an ice cold copper mug. Too cool. I also liked the classic cocktail happy hour. I'm all for reviving mid-century cocktails. Amazing service, fair prices, and an eclectic crowd will keep me coming back.
(4)Leslie T.
41st has my favorite drink in town...The Moscow Mule! I like to bring friends here to try the Mule and enjoy the atmosphere. I have to warn you though, I WILL beat you at the shuffle game!
(5)Patrick W.
MOSCOW MULE!! We had these in Big Sky, and searched every bar in the HAM until we found 41st! Cool peeps, its always great to play some shuffle board and chill in this place. Great atmosphere and music!
(5)Jonathan P.
This place is so cool looking inside! The shuffleboard is a fun addition. The seating is comfortable and there's plenty of space so you never feel cramped. Music selection could fit the venue better. Sometimes it's great. This place feels very modern and hip, but then Nickleback or something terrible will come on. Haha! It needs a Pitchfork.com playlist. The drink menu is so good! Everyone comes here for the "mules" I always get the "drug mule with tequila, and that ginger beer they put in is delicious! Sometimes they have the Spoonfed Grill food truck outside on the weekend. Now THAT is a marriage made in heaven. You get tipsy off those mules and you need some southern food to sop it up! Good staff too.

I was super stoked when I heard about this bar several weeks ago. There was a write up about it in one of the papers in which the owner stated they were going for a "classic city bar" style, whatever that means... The impression I got on my first visit was sort of trendy and classy. Like somewhere you might take a date. Definitely not the down home, local feel I was hoping for. Leather couches oddly placed in the front and blocky, modern-looking booths made of plywood scattered throughout. I thought the bar area looked nice, but the rest of the space just felt strange to me. Maybe it's because they don't have any artwork on the walls yet. I'm not sure whether the crowd is my style, either. Hard to tell so far. What most excited me about 41st Street Pub was table shuffleboard. It isn't a game you see in many bars around here, sadly. It is a lot of fun, though. Way better than pool. 41st has two high quality tables. Also, in the back, a couple nice dart boards. I found it strange that they have their own signature drink, called the "Moscow Mule". Is that common for a completely new bar to already have a signature drink? What if nobody likes it? I got one to see what it was all about and thought it was ok, but I don't see myself getting one again. I forget what all was in it, but one ingredient was ginger beer which was mostly what I tasted. Other than that, they are probably comparable in price to Parkside down the street, but I think they have a better selection when it comes to liquor drinks. As a beer man, though, I don't care about that too much. I will definitely go back to 41st Street Pub, at least until another bar gets some shuffleboard tables. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be the holy grail I was looking for. My search continues...

First of all, I'm a professional pilot. So when I landed at BHM and my copilot and I decided it was time to find a bar, the first place we went to was a pub that had aircraft sales in the name. I love a great bar and this place is a great bar! The drinks were great, I had their Old Fashioned and then I noticed everyone in the bar was drinking from these copper mugs. So I asked the bartender for a Moscow Mule and he suggested I try the Dark and Stormy instead. It's almost the same thing but with spiced rum instead of vodka. The drink was excellent. Later on that night I did try the mule, which was good, but I definitely preferred the rum concoction. There's shuffleboard, darts, a nice couch / lounge area and a big bar area. We will be back. One suggestion.. Get some airplane art / paraphernalia on the walls of this place. Perhaps a cork board to place aircraft ads on. I'm selling my Cessna 310 if anyone is interested.

Most likely my new "go to" neighborhood bar. It has a great feel. The bartender was extremely knowledgable and friendly, the music was classy and nostalgic, and the space was comfortable and clean. The addition of games was a nice touch. The drinks are very well made and reasonably priced. However, I think that it is going to take some time to fully develop its character and lose some of the "sterile" feel that I have heard some people complain about. Wow does it have potential though.
(4)Dan W.
Yet another cool addition to Avondale. I'm generally not a mixed drinks guy, but I tried the Moscow Mule (ginger beer + vodka + lime juice) at my girlfriend's insistence, and it was quite tasty. Judging by the number of copper mugs I spotted around the bar, I'm guessing it's a pretty popular order here. I didn't get a chance to play any shuffleboard, but I like the idea of a bar having something other than darts and pool to play. The overall atmosphere is very relaxed and the bar itself is clean, if a little--as others have mentioned--"sterile." The bartenders were friendly, and the music was good. I see myself more likely to return to this place over Avondale Brewing across the street. I do agree with Alden that some food options would be a welcome addition.

This is a great little neighborhood bar. I came here with a friend for the tabletop shuffleboard which was really fun! We came on a Monday when Moscow Mules are on special for $5. I think the ginger beer they use was a little too spicy for my tastes, but if you like that kind of mule, this is your place. They also give you a raffle ticket when you get a mule that enters you to win a copper mule mug. Somehow, I ended up winning the raffle and got to take home my own mule mug, yes! I switched to beer after my spicy mule, and I appreciated their beer list. I wanted to try a local IPA, and Brian the friendly bartender recommended a good one. Overall a great place to come for drinks, or join their shuffleboard league if you're looking for something to do on Monday nights!
(4)Jacob W.
This place gets pretty packed pretty fast. If you're leaving Saw's and need a drink, stop by and get their signature Moscow Mule. Served in a copper mug, it could be the highlight of your night. Well, after your BBQ. Oh yea, and that shuffleboard setup, too.
(4)David M.
Thank heavens this place is finally seeing some business. I finally saw this place packed about a week ago, so I may actually consider the custom engraved copper mug now.... Speaking of which: The Moscow Mule. Don't ask questions. Don't be concerned about price. Just order it and enjoy. You'll thank me later.
(4)Landon H.
Great crowd mix, great drinks, unique atmosphere. Get a Moscow Mule, play shuffleboard or darts, hang out on the couches in the front or the benches scattered throughout. Great addition to a great neighborhood.

What a great Friday night to explore Avondale! First time at 41st street pub. Hubby and I stopped at the bar and ended up grabbing a few seats for relaxation. I tired the infamous Moscow mule and did NOT like it...the ginger was a bit too strong for me. Thankfully, my next drink was BOMB! I was introduced to the Ultimate Manhattan and boy was it super fantastic- it's a sipping kinda drink! It was a craft beer kinda night for my husband...Casper stout was reported amazing. Our bartender, Heather was awesome, very attentive and could manage the bar with several customers awaiting beverages. Impressive! This was a chill night so no games or people watching...just lite convo and great drinks. Can't wait to go back when the crowd is low. happy flights on 41st street
(4)Ashley G.
Love this place!! Awesome bartenders. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I am obsessed with the wine on tap!! They have many beers , liquor drinks, pretty much anything you could want. It's always so clean inside the bar and the bathrooms are spotless. 5 stars.
(5)Will B.
This is an all around great bar. As everyone has said, the mules are incredible. The copper cups provide a nice, cold beverage. I prefer the Tennessee Mule (with Jack Daniels instead of Vodka). But they have a variety of mules. So pick the one that fits you best. The staff is friendly and attentive. Even when it gets crowded. And the people that come, are from all walks of life. A good quality I find in a bar. I also love that they have plenty of booths and sitting areas to be able to socialize. But the thing I love most about this bar are the shuffleboard tables. I love great bar games. But this is one of my favorite inside bar games of all time! And it is the only bar in Birmingham that I know has one. If there is another, please let me know. But for now, this is my go to place if I am looking for a little drinking and competition. I highly recommend this bar for a chill, unique experience.
(5)Lori T.
Trendy slick bar. The actual bar itself is quite beautiful. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. Happy hour is the best time to go, especially Friday for an Old Fashioned. Beware after happy hour if you order a top shelf cocktail, they can be quite pricey. Frankly not worth it. There are many other more affordable places that offer delicious cocktails without paying $12-13. Their Moscow Mules are what they are known for and I am told reasonably priced; however, I do not care for those. But if this is something you enjoy, I would suggest at least a visit.
(3)Jeremy E.
41st Street is one of our favorite local bars to hang out at. The interior is very sleek and modern feeling. They also have two shuffleboard tables and a case of board games for you and your friends to enjoy. The bartenders are friendly and well experienced...and make some amazing cocktails! Be sure to ask how much some of their specialty cocktails cost before ordering though. One time I was surprised to see that my sidecar was $14 (we are in Birmingham...not Vegas!) The Moscow Mule is also great, ant not too expensive. They do have a pretty good happy hour on select nights of the week. The high prices on some of the drinks are the only thing holding it back from five stars. There is a small patio no the side as well, if you want to go out and get some fresh air.
(4)Jody O.
Drinks are always great with friendly staff....great location and atmosphere. The only complaint is the specialty cocktails are pricey for what they are....12.00 and 13 is just too much for the location....collins is cheaper and better.

If I were the type of lass to regularly imbibe at a tippling joint, I could see 41st Street Pub & Aircraft Sales being in my portfolio. Yeah, totally. Firstly, to set the scene, after some beers at Avondale Brewing Company across the street, Urbanspoon informed us that this place offered up pub grub. After we sidled to the bar, the kindly bartender had to share the sad news. No food. [Aside: Avondale totally needs a 24 hour diner or something. Bars + diners = perfect]. However, 41st Street Pub does let you BYOF[ood] though. After a jaunt to another neighborhood for stomach satisfaction, we returned to 41st Street Pub. The kindly bartender was replaced by two new kindly bartenders. The bartenders offered us the Moscow Mules. I decided upon the rum variant, the Dark and Stormy. I do want to add that while the Moscow Mules are $7, the Dark and Stormy is 50 cents more, and the Tennessee Mule which my other friend ordered will set you back $8. The bartender informed us that the Mules were made with Fever-Tree ginger beer. I'd never heard of this product but it was really intense, with ginger bits. High quality stuff. Thank goodness for the copper mugs. I'm the world's slowest drinker, so color me thrilled to have a chilly drink 'til the end. Those mugs are bigger than you think! Someone in my party wanted to watch a football game, and there were two TVs at the bar for this purpose. The TVs were shut off postgame so they weren't blaring nonsense after. Roomy space. We didn't play shuffleboard, but at least we had the option to do so. If you find that Mules aren't your style, you can always elect to buy a small plane instead.
