I tried SAMs a long time ago and wasn't that impressed. I'm not a big fan of barbecue. But recently I went with some friends and really enjoyed it! I love their chopped chicken barbecue sandwich and their baked beans! They also have a really good slaw that is light and fresh. You should try this place:)

Best BBQ, baked beans, potato salad and pies in the State of ALABAMA!! Great price, awesome atmosphere and outstanding service!!

The best BBQ in Bham. I think Tim must work for Jim and Nick's. Unfriendly staff???? I have always found the staff to be very attentive and friendly.

Uncle Sam's had good food at one time, my last experience was terrible. I went in to order take out and basically had to wave down a waitress, and they weren't even busy. The staff as a whole were very rude not even a thankyou ( and I even thanked them ). I took my food to eat in my truck before work an had no silverware or napkins. On top of all this the food was horrible, I had to throw 90% of it away because it uneatable. This place and recommendations are off my list until their attitude and food changes.

Great Bbq and even better baked beans! Seriously the beans are the best I have ever had! Service was also fast & friendly.

They have good BBQ. Nice flavor/smoke balance. Large portions. As other revises said the service was not that great. Felt like I was a stranger eating at a wedding. Not what I would expect from a homely looking place. I would go back in the future tho.

Good food at a good price. Staff is somewhat friendly. It is just about what you would expect from a small town BBQ joint. I recomend the wings and bones plate, or the drummer boy plate. Both are excellent!

The BBQ is standard nothing special, but you do get a lot for what you pay. The staff is somewhat stand offish, but not enough if you have to have BBQ.

This is a decent little barbecue shack in Hueytown that has good, cheap, filling lunch specials. I'll admit I've never been there for dinner, but the lunch was always a good, sweet, wet barbecue style that I like. For the record, I think this place is better than Dreamland. Nothing is too expensive and you can get filled up and out the door for less than 7 dollars if you want. I also like the open bbq pit where you can watch the pork and chicken cooking slowly.....

Very good first time stopping... Had jumbo beef sandwich , Fries, slaw and baked beans... Only complaint was I wish they would place BBQ sauce on the table to put extra on meat and for fries...

Great barbecue. Excellent sides...the potato salad has bits of chewy bacon, which is always a plus, and the cole slaw has a nice fresh taste that balances out all those heavy bbq flavors. I first had Uncle Sam's when someone else picked up takeout there...I thought it was the best bbq I'd had in a while. Went in for the first time few days ago, to make a to-go order. I had just read the reviews about rude staff, so I was prepared for attitude, but everyone was as pleasant as could be.

It's alright. Jim N Nicks or Bob Sykes is better than this. I recommend those over this one.

I have had better BBQ, but this place is okay. Our regular BBQ place, Classic Burger & BBQ is closed on Sundays so we decided to give Uncle Sam's a try. I am in no hurry to go back...at least not for BBQ Pork. I do not like the potato salad. The ham/bacon after taste was not to my liking. I would rather have chopped dill pickles in my potato salad . The pickle's tartness would cut the taste of the greasy BBQ. The bacon in the potato salad is overkill, and not in a good way. I have not tried the Beef or Chicken BBQ. We just got the pork sandwiches. The pork meat is tender but on the greasy side. I would suggest to eat-in instead of doing carry-out. We got several BBQ Pork sandwiches and they do not travel well. By the time you get home the bread/bun is a soggy mess and not at all appealing to hold much less eat. Also, while you do get a lot of chopped pork on the sandwich you will wish you had more sauce. The sauce is only on both pieces of the bun and the center of the sandwich has no sauce at all. Sadly, the meat is chopped and not pulled pork. Frankly, it really needs sauce to add flavor to the meat. They should mix the meat with the sauce BEFORE putting it on the bun. If you do get carry out do not forget to ask for a container of extra sauce and be sure to stop by the store and pick up a bag of buns. Then you can make a fairly nice BBQ sandwich when you get home. They do have delicious dessert pies though!

Good old small town bbq; nothing fancy just good. The sides are so so; avoid the riblets (too fatty and tough) but the half chicken white and the chicken wings are exceptionally good; slow cooked on a bbq spit right in front of you. #HitsTheSpot NOTE TO OWNER: Please Bring in mac N cheese and steamed garlic broccoli; they were sadly missing In this BBQ joint! #hitsTheSpot
