I bought a Groupon to use here a few months ago and decided to take my mom to a late lunch earlier this week. Since I'm not a seafood lover (how ironic), I ordered the chicken fingers with fried green tomatoes and R.I. Creamy grits. My mom wanted the fried whiting, but gasp! They were out of whiting AND tilapia. Go figure...a seafood place out of two of the more popular types of fish! She settled on another one of her favorites- ocean perch. A nice touch was the complimentary hush puppies and honey butter spread that came out before our meal. They were nice and hot and quite tasty upon delivery. When our food arrived, I noticed how nicely golden fried the chicken tenders and ocean perch were. My favorite part of the meal were those grits. Not sure what was in them, but they were the best grits I've ever eaten. Seriously. I would come back just for the grits. If they were located closer to my neck of the woods. My mom wasn't thrilled that her fish arrived on top of her fries. She said the meal was "just ok". Our waitress, who said she was only helping out for the day for her friend, was very sweet and pleasant. However, the cook/cashier wasn't. In fact, she was the one deciding factor in why my mom says she won't return. There were several customers who had problems with their food orders, and one couple left after being told that their favorite fish was not in stock. Even with my $15 certificate, I still had to pay about $12 more. So this place isn't cheap. Overall, I enjoyed my food, especially the grits. Not sure if I would drive the distance again though for a meal from there. I'm not into seafood like that. If you are, give Bryant's a try. Especially try the grits.

It's been over a year since I last ate here and I love the new Bryant's. The outside hasn't changed much, but the inside has been made over. I got one of the lunch specials and for only $7.99 I got 7 butterfly shrimp, fries, and slaw. And as always this was served with the famous hush puppies. The shrimp were seasoned and fried to perfection and I love the seasoning on the fries. My only complaint is that I ate too much! The waitresses are laid back and very nice.

This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I can understand there only being one server running both the drive through and front. But that is no reason to be rude to customers. My husband first job was at this restaurant, needless to say I was excited to come and try this seafood delight. We were greeted by a bark and snarl from the only server on the floor. No smile no nothing just a simple "find your own seat." We find our seat and another family at a table asked her a question. The server snapped at her and said "it's gonna have to wait I need to get the drive through" at this time I realized it wasn't even busy at all. There was the family , us, and the drive through. That's it. She made it so uncomfortable to be in there that after 20 min of waiting and no possible clue as to when our order was going to be taken, we paid for our one drink and even left her a tip. Because no matter how rude she was to the family of five across from us, and no matter how rude she was to my husband and I , I would never treat another human being that horrible. What a shame. We were all understanding and polite but she treated us all like third class citizens. Even as we left she muttered obscenities.

Ok, last week the TV show "Restaurant Impossible" was in town to try to rescue this local landmark. Let me say right off the bat that my experience at lunch today was NOTHING like my last. The smell of scorched grease is gone gone gone. The new decor is bright, comfortable and inviting. It was a much needed update. The staff has obviously been trained well. They were friendly, welcoming and seemed to be genuine in wanting to provide excellent service. The new menu is appropriately narrowed down, but offers a good variety of interesting choices. And, as always for me, the food has to be the star. And in this area I can say that my lunch was excellent. The fried shrimp were beautiful to see, seasoned perfectly and not at all overdone. The hushpuppies are light and have good flavor and texture. I am looking forward to trying out more of their offerings.

First of all I remember Bryant's seafood years ago and the seafood was fresh and very good. Fast forward to today, they have changed owners and kept the same name. They had Chef Robert from food network come in and redo the restaurant. Since I loved Bryant's before and like watching the food network shows I wanted to try the new and improved restaurant. We went on a Saturday night it wasn't busy at all. We had a party of five no one greeted us at the door, nor did they show us to a table, we found our own. They bring out hush puppies while you look over the menu for you to munch on, they were very good I might add. They came in a basket with a napkin as a bed. They also had candles at each table. The couple next to us caught fire to their hush puppy basket from the candle, the waitress proceeded to dump a whole pitcher of water on the table and the couple. Next the menu was short and to the point which was good and the prices were 10 to 30 dollars. When the waitress finally showed up and took our drink order we had to ask for the hush puppies for our table. I ordered the combo seafood plate, the people dining with me ordered a variety of things on the menu. Service was quick with the food. But.... the food tasted like it came out of a groceries stores freezers case and it was not fresh at all, "fresh is not hard to get to this area". For where this restaurant is it had the wrong atmosphere for the area. Don't get me wrong this restaurant was nice but out of character for the area. I will not be going back, my stomach can't handle that terrible food again.

The fried Tilapia was delicious along with Alabama fish fry. The fried pickles were thick cut and hot from the frier. Couldn't stop popping the hush puppies. Can't wait to try more next time.

I have been to Bryant's many times in the past and while it was never elegant dining the food was terrific until the new owners took over. Yes, the place smelled like old grease and the tables seem to need some degreaser and the food quality went down with things far too greasy and really poor service. I stopped going. Robert Irvine and Restaurant Impossible did a make over so I went back a week later. WOW! I was impressed with the new interior and sat there wondering how they got the smell to go away. The menu was impressive, the service was great and the food (I had mussels Alfredo and other had shrimp or fish) was terrific. I left wanting to go back soon. Fast forward, a month. On the next trip, the first thing I noticed was the the service was back to it previous low and they had brought back the old menu but stil had the new one. We order shrimp and grits, fried shrimp, and I had the mussels alfredo I liked before. The place was not at all busy but it took forever to get our food. My mussels Alfredo now was clams and mussels and was not nearly the same as before. It was way overcooked and very watery, the fried shrimp was judged as average but the shrimp and grits was inedible. The shrimp (3) were almost raw and seasoned poorly and we sent it back but decided not to wait for a replacement because of the long wait. The waitress said "I get that a lot from people about the shrimp and grits" I saw her tell the owner and instead of some form of apology I got a cold shoulder when I payed like it was my fault that the food was bad. I seems that the got a new interior from the TV appearance but not a new attitude or a change in the way they operate. I have made my last appearance.

I had been to Bryant's years ago for their seafood buffet and WOW! what a treat to go back after Restaurant Impossible had transformed it! The decor was pleasing, the staff very attentive, and the food was fabulous! There were 3 in our party and 2 of us wanted crab claws which they were out of. I will go back for those! Even though it is a very small neighborhood restaurant we didn't have to wait long and got to feast on the wonderful fresh hush puppies while we waited! Can't wait to go back!
