We tried to go here for lunch on a Sunday. After they seated us, we waited an hour for a chef to come. Eventually, we decided enough was enough and left. The waitress could not get us an answer for when the chef would be available, nor could she bring chopsticks for the sushi we waited 45 minutes for. Someone had to get up and go find a pile of chopsticks for the whole table. The sushi itself was stale. The manager was just as unhelpful. Overall, a terrible experience.

I would give this place a 0 if I could. We went here twice. The first time was when hubby and I decided to be adventurous in Auburn, how bad could the Asian food be here, really? Trip #1: We were asked where we wanted to be seated. We said the sushi bar because we wanted sushi. I were asked our drink order by the person that seated us, and she came back with our drinks 5 mins later. This whole time, the sushi chef was cleaning his knives, cleaning the bar area, and prepping sushi meat. We sat there drinking our drinks waiting for him or SOMEONE to take our food order. We waited for 30 mins and no one approached us. We tried to get the attention of the sushi chef... and he ignored us as well. We left $10 on the table (hopefully it covered the tea and water once glass each) and left. The front ladies didn't even ask if everything was okay or acknowledge us as we left. They were standing around talking to each other. We vowed never to come back. Trip #2: A close friend's birthday party, we decided.... party, can't be too bad, right? The teppanyaki was horrible. The rice was dry, my steak was dry. Worse of all, the chef wanted to flip pieces of meat into people's mouths. How horrible! Most of the time the chef missed and there goes a stain on your shirt! NEVER coming back! Go anywhere else!

Not really sure why this is getting such bad reviews. This tastes like the majority of teppanyaki restaurants I've been to. Sure the ambiance isn't the best, but I don't just judge a restaurant on how it looks. I judge it on the food. Great size portions and meals are $15-20 for the most part (what I consider cheap for a tableside cooked Japanese meal). I recommend the chicken and shrimp. Service is hit or miss... sometimes you have to wait a while if they are busy for a chef to be finished at one table to come over to yours. Once the chef comes over they are always full of life and great entertainers. I would give this a 3.5 for spotty service but I will round it up to a 4 for this review. Try it out for yourself.

This place is disgusting. The floors are always sticky, the seafood is nowhere near fresh, it SMELLS, and it's extremely overpriced. Oh, and you know what else? I've been there twice for family occasions and my husband and I were sick both times.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could but the one is for our server who was so sweet and attentive throughout the time we were there. She was fabulous and should work somewhere else because her attitude was great in such a dark and disgusting restaurant. First off I didn't eat hibachi but my friends let me have some of their rice and vegetables. I ordered miso soup and an Alaskan roll because I personally love sushi and was wanting it badly. My friends both got steak and then one had the chicken. When the hibachi chef cooked both I could just tell something wasn't right about the meat...it was so thin and unnatural looking so I'm glad I passed. My roll tasted VERY fishy to say the least. Granted, I knew what I was getting myself into going to a chain hibachi restaurant but I really didn't think it was possible to screw up an Alaskan roll with awful salmon. We all ate out meal and my check only ended up being $5.00?.....I tipped the waitress graciously because she was the only good thing about this experience. ....20 minutes after I get home..... Food poisoning. Just don't eat here.

The food was good, I was attended quickly, and the service was great! The chef had a very happy attitude throughout the whole dinner. The only thing that I didn't like was the atmosphere. Very old looking, this place needs a remodeling pronto.

The food was ok although I'm 90% sure I was served spaghetti noodles. The waitstaff was were less than hospitable. I walked in said I was meeting some friends and the response was "ok". No one tried to help or seat us. They also randomly decided to add in gratuity and not tell us even though the menu stated that gratuity would be added for parties of six or more and we only had a party of four. When we asked about it the waitress' response was "sometimes we do it and sometimes we don't". Meaning "we do it when we think our party isn't going to tip." I will never go back. The only reason I stayed is because it was a friend's birthday.

i usually don't like teppan yaki b/c the protein is never seasoned and u only use dipping sauce for the taste. to me, it is just bland tasting. but it is a great place to take guest(s). i am used to paying $35 to $40 per person for teppan yaki in san francisco or in silicon valley. so it was a pleasant surprise to pay less than $20 per person here. the service is good and the food was just ok....the rolls weren't very good...they are very small and skinny. the rice on the roll weren't moist...like the rice wasn't cook all the way. i can only give 3 stars b/c the teppan yaki was just ok and the roles are not good.

I have never tried before teppanyaki before which is weird considering that I'm Asian and I've tried all the other things. I love this place and the food here. The service here is excellent and I definitely want to come back here to try their other food items. I ordered the scallop dinner and the one thing I was disappointed about was how little scallop they gave me. It had to be less than 8 pieces and they were pretty small too. You may not exactly get the money's worth on the meat but you do on the other things like fried rice, noodles, veggies, soup, and salad. The ice cream is complimentary but you have to ask for it. I really felt like I was back home having authentic Asian food so this place made me really happy. It's easy to miss because the store signs are small but that doesn't seem to hinder the business here at all.

Service was great. However eater beware. They are adding the tip to your total. I fully understand that because of the deadbeats to sorry to leave a tip it has come to this. The problem I had is I had no clue they were doing this up front. The total looked odd so I did the math add it didn't add up. They seem to me as being sneaky by making it look like the tip is tax and the unsuspecting diner could end up adding a tip on top on the one they put on the ticket. If not for this I would have four stared this.

chinese buffet type atmosphere with benihana type prices. whoever invented the idea to cook food in front of the guests and serve it in front of them is a genius. any restaurant with a teppanyaki and I'm sold. granted, this place isn't fancy in the least, it's still a great place to eat. I loved coming here with my S.O. almost every month. the food's great, good portions and very flavorful. the prices aren't too expensive but it should be cheaper, after all this isn't benihana. it does beat college cafeteria food, though.

Shogun is all about what's right with Japanese Steakhouses. I have eaten at Mikata in town and it doesn't compare. Shogun has better food and better prices. Benihana is nowhere near as good or as good a value. I love the jokes, but even when the chef has an off night, the food never seems to. Everything is always fresh and tasty. The cream sauce on the salad is just right. The soup it good, as is the hot tea, which goes good with splenda. The noodles are a special treat and the watresses are mostly great [though one gave my 18yo daughter grief over a drink that didn't have free refills. Had I heard this, I would have said "So? give here another one! I'm paying for this, not you!" But other than that, It's about $20/per person if you don't "drink." not bad for a nice eating place. Jenna gets the veggie plate and it's ~12 bucks. Do yourself a favor and go to Shogun if you're craving Japanese and fun.
