If you like soul food, then this is the best place in town.

This is hands down, some of the best country cooking I've tasted in years other than my mom's! None of the veggies are seasoned with pork! Everything from the country fried steak to blackberry cobbler tasted homemade! Was headed back to Birmingham when yelp led us to this place. The collard greens was seasoned just right & the cornbread was moist & not to sweet. My first time meeting the owner & her staff, but they were extremely nice & displayed a genuine care for their customers! I love to patronize businesses like this. I'll be back for sure. A must visit when coming to this town! Despite my being a Roll Tide fan & this business truly shows it's love for the Auburn TIGeRS! ;-D

Here on business and was taken here for lunch. What a neat little family run place! The chicken was fantastic, as were the sides. I can see why this place was packed!

Went here on a whim since I always pass it on the way to my parents' house. I got the fried chicken, some rice casserole type side, cornbread, and some banana pudding. Service was fine. The fried chicken was cooked well, but man was it salty! I like salt, but I feel like all my cells are shriveling up after that meal. The rice casserole was pretty good, though nothing to write home about. The cornbread was also not spectacular -- tasted pretty much like it was made from a box of Jiffy (is that the cornbread brand?) with no additions to give it flair. The banana pudding was also just ok. All in all, though it wasn't bad, everything tasted like I could make it at home better. I might go back because of the proximity, but honestly, I think you're better off with Publix fried chicken and sides.

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH I MISS THIS PLACE! I moved once I graduated in August and I always find myself craving Pannie George's. I used to take my friends there with me after telling them how good it was and they would all start going on a regular basis too. The best home cooked meat and veggies place. The women who work there are always so sweet and so friendly. They have the best fried chicken and Mac and cheese I've ever put in my mouth and trust me I've had my fair share of both! I also love how they have kool-aid and it is the BEST kool-aid in the world. It's in a little shopping center so its easy to pass by but I highly encourage you to try it! Perfect place for a Sunday lunch or anytime really! You can easily dine in or get it to go so its real convenient.

Greatly disappointed. Arrived at 1:20 and there was little left to choose from. Got the last of the chicken which was greasy.

Best fried chicken in a 50 mile radius!!!!!

This was probably the most delicious mac and cheese I have ever had. The macaroni cheese here is a venomous mixture of cheese, butter, and atherosclerosis. Their fried chicken came a close second. The baked chicken had more fat than I preferred and the okra was fresh. The service and the layout are nostalgic to a time when you always visited your African American grandma who made the best southern food in the world even though you're not African American. The hours are weird but somehow the persistence in finding a day it's open pays off.

Southern meat and two, need we say more? Not a place to go if you want health food, but if you want down home southern cooking, come here. Nothing fancy, but you don't need that when you have good food. Friend them on Facebook and you can get the daily menu :)

The smell of fried chicken swayed us from our original lunch destination! Glad it did!

If I had the option, I would give 2.5 stars but I am rounding down because of plastic forks and styrofoam plates. The food itself, Fried Chicken, peas, rice & gravy was ok (but, just ok) the chicken was good but a bit bland, the rice was cold and gravy was out of a can... there are better options

Any place that has a menu of fried or baked chicken and sides is okay with me! I got my true southern helping of fried chicken, cabbage, and broccoli. I should have gotten the fried okra, but I had to head to work and I was afraid of passing out from the heavy food. Oooo almost forgot to mention my cornbread muffin. Nice local place with plenty of student and town patron's. If you got southern roots like me, this place ain't quite like your grandma's or auntie's cooking, but it will do the trick! If you aren't southern, you will be so happy you tried it.

I eat here every chance I get, this is southern home cooking at its best! The best fried chicken and Mac n cheese I have ever eaten! Don't let being in a strip mall off the highway with plastic table cloths throw you off, when I have guests in from out of town I take them here first. This is auburns best kept secret!

Overall the food and the experience is great. Crispy fried chicken that is very very moist inside. Collards and cornbread very solid and tasty. Only reason they don't get five stars is due to copious amounts of butter on the vegetables and charging for plastic ware. It's not much... But it makes you say, "Seriously? You're charging me for a plastic fork?"

Likely the only place in Auburn that I'll miss. There's a few other eateries near Pannie's that I think about going to, sometimes I even plan on going to these other places, but then I see Pannie's and the decision is easy. Pannie's it is. Done. They don't have mac n cheese everyday, so you can call ahead to get the menu. They update the recording every morning.

I've been coming here every Sunday for a few years no. So good and a pretty good price. A few tips: Get the Mac and cheese Get the Broccoli and rice casserole Get the corn casserole Get pork chops If they ever have these items get them! Also, beware the koolaid, you'll probably want to water it down a bit.

Amazing soul food. Very basic place with friendly staff and the best southern cooking I've ever had. And I've lived in the south my whole life. It's like being inviting into someone's grandmas house for Sunday dinner. I clearly can't get enough :)

  • Sarah C.

Every single thing I've had from here is hands down amazing. I think I have only come on Sundays for lunch, and of course the line is usually out the door! Their fried chicken, meatloaf, Mac and cheese, green beans, kool-aid is amazing! This is southern food at its best, and I crave it more than I do Chickfila on Sundays.

On our way to Atlanta, checked out the reviews for this restaurant. They are right on. We had pork chops and fried chicken. Both excellent.

Every week is Wed and Fri for that mac and cheese. So much better then jim and nicks. Lovely ladies working also, always so nice.

What a friendly staff. Read some reviews and I was in the area on business and tried it. Can't say enough about how comforting it was to have a home style meal on the road! Meat and three is what we called it in the south. I had the beef tips, rice, Mac n cheese, and cabbage. Delicious! Thank you for the hospitality!

This place was awesome. Best fried chicken I've ever had and the family and staff were very sweet.

Simply put: best fried chicken ever. I stopped here at the recommendation of a nice old lady who worked at the Alabama Visitor's Center off the I-85. I can only say that I am forever indebted to her, and that I am jealous of every student who attends Auburn University. Did I mention it was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten? See attached pic. The biscuit was great. The mac & cheese was a little oily for me. C'est la vie. Coke and Hi-C in the fountains. One friend of mine got the meatloaf (fool!), but it was also top quality comfort food. Pretty bland strip mall location and the interior is mostly unremarkable, except for the cafeteria-style showcase of the delicious food you can order. If you are within fifty miles of Pannie-George's Kitchen, then you must, must go for lunch.

What the F*** is with the all the butter? Seriously. Jesus H. Christ. Butter. Butter everywhere. Spoon fulls of butter coming out of the mashed potatoes. Like half of a cup dripping from the meatloaf. Butter on the plastic bag that I got for take-out. I might as well just ordered butter for my beverage. Regardless of the gratuitous use of artery-clogging golden cooking gravy, the food was alright. I've had actually never had meatloaf before so that was a treat. For my sides, I ordered two servings of mashed potatoes (trying to go heavy on the carbs lately), and they were extremely rich, i.e. the butter. The cornbread roll was fairly stiff and tasteless. Ultimately, I just felt bad after eating this food. Maybe my body is out of the practice of eating such things, but good god, I can't believe food can be made so unhealthy. I felt that congestive heart failure was going to sneak up on me on my way back to work. However, I'm not saying the food is bad; it just might make you *feel* bad. On a happy note, the people working behind the counter were super nice, unlike the tone of this review. And this restaurant seems like a fairly legit place to get your regular dose of Southern cooking.

My favorite place to eat in Auburn and my Sunday, after church ritual! The food is very good and fresh and the staff/family just puts this restaurant over the top. Great all around! :) ***I MISS PANNIE-GEORGE'S!!! CAN SOMEONE SEND THIS CALIFORNIA BOY SOME FOOD?!***

We decided to stop and try this place on our way down to Mardi Gras. Great service and excellent food! I had the fried chicken, mac n cheese, cabbage, cornbread and sweet tea. Prices are great!! Try it you won't be disappointed.

Good soul food for your hangover. Super long line on a Sunday at 11:15, but it moves pretty fast. Had the fried chicken, great baked mac n cheese, greens, and deliciously sweet yams. Good sweet tea as well.

You cannot beat the fresh veggies and fried chicken this place provides! If you are trying to lose weight, this might not be a perfect fit. Otherwise, it's a cant miss!

My meal was good, but what I'll remember was the annoying 32¢ fee for an after-meal container (i declined on principle), and the cheap, under-performing fork.

This was my first visit to PG's and I cannot say enough about the staff and food! I suffer from essential tremors and as I placed my tray on the table it spilled all in the floor. The line was like a "Sunday line" winding back through out the restaurant. The lady behind the counter was kind enough to replace everything I had ordered, which was the baked chicken over rice with candied yams and mac-n-cheese. All delicious! If you ever get a chance to go there it is well worth the wait and don't forget to wish them a blessed day!

Delicious!! I always look for local food when I travel. P-G's was exactly what I was looking for. If you're looking for ambience you're not going to find it here. The atmosphere is pleasant, friendly and very accomodating. I had pork chops (2) smothered in gravy, stewed squash, okra and tomatoes and a roll. The chops were fork tender. Everything tasted like something your grandmother would have prepared. With tea and tax my bill was $11 and worth every penny.

They seem to have pretty limited hours, and we showed up an hour before closing, and most of the tables already had chairs up on them. So we walked in, and you choose your meat and sides for your plate. Unfortunately, they were already out of the mac and cheese, and didn't have the sides available that day that I was interested in from the menu. This left me to pick black eyed peas, and rice and gravy. You also get a piece of cornbread with the plate, which was ok. The fried chicken itself was great, but you can only order it with the sides, and the sides turned out to be pretty bland and unimpressive. Since you order everything as a meal, I have to take off stars for the sides, even though the chicken itself is definitely worth coming in for. I would come back here for another visit, maybe right after opening to make sure I get the mac and cheese. 3-3.5 stars

Yummy southern / soul food. Fried chicken to die for and tea so sweet your eyes roll back in your head! Would visit again!

Best food in Auburn, it's all good, the fried chicken is not be missed, also recommend the vegetables, peach cobbler, corn bread, this is how Southern cooking should be done.

My husband and I stopped by on a recent trip to North Carolina and was so impressed with the delicious southern fried chicken. The chicken was crispy and golden brown. I had rice and brown gravy and collard greens. The restaurant is tucked neatly in a strip mall. Because we arrived 15 minutes prior to closing, so our food was put in to-go boxes, but the owners graciously allowed us to eat in the restaurant. It's worth leaving I-85 for a wonderful southern meal!

Amazing food! The fried chicken is always good. Get the cobbler if they have it! The sweet tea is also perfection!!

  • Thomas P.

The food was pretty good. I ordered the fried chicken breast, macaroni, and green beans which came with homemade cornbread. The food was well worth the price and would receive a 4-star review. The reason I dropped it to 3 stars though, is because of the costumer service. The lady who was fishing up the food was incredibly rude to us and the people in front of us. She seemed very impatient with any questions asked and just wanted to rush is through the cafeteria-style line. Other than that, the food is pretty decent and worth the price.

  • Stephanie S.

The fried chicken was perfect and so was the mac n cheese and yams! I would have preferred some place a bit cleaner (floors and table needed attention) but my guess is they had a busy lunch hour. Worth a stop!
