Great beer, good pizza. I'm what they call a pizza fiend, and I'm pretty sure that this is my new spot for the za in Auburn. The dough is fantastic and the philosopher's pie is dee-lish. The only thing holding me back from a five star is the sauce ... No red sauce on the philosopher, but I got some for dipping and the red is much too bold. Fun atmosphere.

LOVE the pizza here. Not all Mellows are made the same. This one is great! I especially love the thai sesame and meatlovers.

Reunited and it feels so good....oh, Mellow Mushroom, I love you. There, I said it. Yes, it's been a long time but my feelings for you have stayed true. Sure, there were times when I wondered if perhaps it was all a dream, if you were too good to be true. I even wondered if you'd be there for me when I returned, as I vowed I would one day. While time kept us apart, I was soothed by visions of your piping hot parmesan pretzels, fresh homemade pizzas and amazing meatball subs. Sure, there were others during our separation, but nothing compares 2 U. Really, they meant nothing. Yes, this place is that amazing. When Mellow Mushroom first came to Auburn, it was one of a handful of MM franchises across the southeast, popping up primarily in college towns. Not all franchises are as yummy and delicious as the Auburn one, an observation noted by many who have visited this fair location. They serve up more than your garden variety pizza, though you can get the standard fare if you want. However, with mouth watering offerings such as the Margherita, Jerk Chicken Pineapple, Steak & Cheese, Buffalo Chicken, Kosmic Karma and something called the Magical Mystery Tour (one pill makes u smaller...), go ahead and indulge your taste buds. I know what you're thinking and you're right. What about something to wash it down with? Never fear, there's ton's of beer. There's a surprisingly extensive selection on tap, especially for Auburn, where the college crowd typically goes for the MGD or Bud light. At any given time, you'll find about 10 - 15 draught beers, along with a decent selection of bottled bretheren. The rest of the food menu is also pretty decent, complete with salads, calzones, soups, hoagies and, let me say it again, pizzas so good it's like crack. The place is rather pricey for a pizza joint, especially one in a college town. A 10" small cheese pizza will run you about $8.00. A small fully loaded one will run you $16 whereas a large 16" will run $27. I know, pricey. When this place first opened, I was kind of skeptical that such a pricey place would survive, but it has stood the test of time. I have a sneaking suspicion that it survives primarily due to parents coming up to take their kids out for weekend dinners...oh, and the football crowd. Come here during a football weekend and you'll be waiting a good while. Still, it's worth it. I can't even bring myself to take a star off for the high price. Oh MM, you're simply the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, anyone I've ever met. Until we meet again...

So far, this is the most impressive casual dining I've found in Auburn. A bit on the pricey side for a pizza place, but when I can afford to, I won't turn down a night out at the Mellow Mushroom. As a vegetarian, I'm really happy to report that they have pizza and sandwich options to please a veggie. Their tempeh sandwich is DELICIOUS. They have a huge selection of beer on tap if that's important to you. Probably the only thing bad I have to say about the place is the decor. It's a weird mixture of hippie/drug and booze culture/AUBURN TIGERS - "WAR EAGLE!". I find the look of the entire place to be incongruous. But it is in Auburn.... so I guess it makes some kind of strange sense.

Best pizza and beer selection in Auburn bar none. This place has some great, albeit traditional, slices of pie. They have an amazing selection of beers, including imports and even a few micro-brews (which are hard to find in this area). Best of all, the food is cheap, service is friendly, and it's centrally located blocks away from campus.

Mellow Mushroom is yummy. The beer is great (Guinness on tap!!!). Kosmic Karma pizza is the best...try it.

Ditto what Stephanie W. said. Great beer selection, friendly staff, and the best pizza ever! Also, this is the nicest Mellow Mushroom I've ever been to.

Had a great pizza and a few beers here. Can't beat the atmosphere at this mellow. We come here when ever we are in town and want pizza. They always have different beer on tap too.

I am a big fan of mellow mushroom and the Auburn location did not disappoint. I am a huge craft beer fan and every MM I have been to has a great selection. Good location downtown... could probably use a little more dining room, but not much they could do about that. If you like pizza and beer you will enjoy MM Auburn

WHAT I MISS ABOUT ALABAMA! The pizza is so, so delicious! The caesar salad pizza, seriously so good- and haven't seen it anywhere else. I am not a beer drinker, but you have to comment on the beer on tap- the selection is pretty unreal- and must be heaven for the beer drinkers. I had the Greek Salad with Chicken there and it was absolutely delicious. Better then most salads I have had at a pizza shop! I am dreaming about this pizza place and next time I am in the south I will definitely be making a pit stop at mellow!

The Mellow Mushroom served up one good pizza! We had the philosopher's pie, minus the kalamata olives, cooked to perfection with fabulous favors! I would have given it a five but the pizza took longer than we expected and they weren't really busy! We will be back!

I really wished they open up in Chicago or actually screw it I'm moving to Florida next to one lol. Best thin crust wheat pizza I ever had. I quit eating grain a long time ago, however, I'll break the deal for the Mellowterian pizza and Key lime pie...

I am a vegetarian and wanted a light lunch, so I ordered the mushroom Reuben and the Caesar salad. The salad (half portion) was huge, and it tasted good enough, but the Reuben was disappointing, though. The taste was all sauce and the bread was cheap white bread. I wouldn't go there again.

If there is a Mellow Mushroom in a college town I am visiting then I'm down for it. This is the second city that I have dined at a MM and it was just as good at the first. The small chain has a cult following and I understand why and in big way! This MM location is in downtown Auburn and I enjoyed the proximity just off the campus of Auburn University. Parking is surface metered in front and back. If you are enjoying them on the weekend than there is complementary parking at all city meters. Weekdays free after 5 PM. I imagine parking is an issue at times, but luckily I was not there to encounter it on a weekday lunch, or busy weekend night. The wait was around 15 minutes, so my son and I elected to set at the bar. It's not a problem for me to set at the bar, I actually really like it. You see all the action when you set behind the bar, get to chat up the wait staff more and in general it's usually a real enjoyable endeavor. The atmosphere in the pizza joint was buzzing with a full house enjoying food, company and maybe the big screen TV. The waitress was nice and an Auburn student like so many of the other staff we encountered on this evening. She got our drinks out quickly and began taking our order. My son saw an appetizer that looked interesting when setting at the bar. Pretzels and dipping sauce of beer cheese (extra $1.25) which sounded adventurous to him. We elected to get the small 10 inch pepperoni and sausage pizza since it was just the two of us. If you ever been to a MM then you would know what to expect from the dining room. If not then it's similar to what I experienced in Charlottesville -UVA campus. Dark wood floors, dark wood booths line exterior walls with some table and chairs. Plenty of TV's on hand, but I would not consider this necessarily a sports bar. However, on an AU game day I am confident it is mobbed beyond measure. A long bar and open kitchen area. Of course the signature MELLOW MUSHROOM spelled out on the wall in big huge letters across the wall is their trademark. Now, for the unique decor they make it local and had a large wooden statue of the AU battle cry War Eagle up front and various other items sprinkled around. This location was well as the other I visited does had a small amount of outdoor seating. What you should expect from the staff is energetic young men and women that seem to really enjoy their job. The pretzels came out hot and with two dipping sauces. A red sauce which has no up charge and the beer cheese. The pretzels stand up nicely on their own and were really yum! Dipping them in the red sauce was okay, now dipping them in the beer cheese sent shivers up my spine...OMG!!! What an incredible flavor, yes you get the hint of beer. It's served hot in a little crock and they provide you plenty to go nuts and soak them down. The kids love it because they say I had something with beer, ha! Just so ya know parents, it's has no alcohol in it. While enjoying these scrumptious pretzels our waitress and others chatted with us as time allowed. This was the experience that I was hoping for and got it. The show put on by the pizza makers was stellar. These guys have skills in the kitchen. I saw one guy could spin the pizza dough around his body, I never could catch a pic of him he was so fast. When the pizza came out it was piping hot, just out of the oven and smelled heavenly. It was just too hot to handle for a few minutes so I kept enjoying my "Laughing Skull" Craft Beer that is made in ATL. If I ever see this again than I am all over it. The pizza did live up to my expectations and was a home run. Even the crust which my son will not usually eat was delectable dipped in beer cheese (-: Stellar location, awesome atmosphere, clean dining room and restrooms. As far as pizza goes some of the best I have ever had. Yes, I am a fan of MM and with a few more days in Auburn I will be back for another pie and brew.

Great pizza. They just finished revamping and changing the colors and walls inside. Looks really good! Staff was very friendly and quick. The owner actually stopped by to ask how the food was and gave us a free koosie

Hoagies lacked ingredients. Mostly just a toasted French roll. Go next door to Jimmy Johns instead.

HOLY SHITAKE PIE- I'm in love. This party of shroom-y flavors makes me such a happy girl. Their bruschetta appetizer is great. Large beer selection and waitresses are helpful and knowledgeable. Get a pie to-go. you won't regret it after a night of drinking and you have nothing but cold mellow mushroom pizza to eat. Best. Idea. Ever

My food was ok, but my friend got food poisoning. I can't recommend this place for good food. I do, however, keep his experience in mind when anyone brings it up.

Really cool Mellow Mushroom location! We came up here last year for a golf buddies trip to play some of the courses located on the Robert Trent Jones Trail. One of the nights we came to this Mellow Mushroom to have dinner. Right in the heart of Auburn. Fun crowd, good people watching, and solid atmosphere. No reason not to eat here. Check it out!

OK this update is just because i've recently been to Grimaldi's and Patsy's in NYC and have learned I'm not the biggest NY style pizza lover. At Mellow Mushroom of course it's not NY style so if you do like NY style I still think you'll like the pizza here. Just was back with my sis and got a bacon, feta and mushroom pizza and it was just as good as we had remembered - yum! Oh I uploaded a pic of that pizza too...

Good pizza, more of a hang out pizza place then a takeout place. Everything is pretty good, service never been bad for me.

I've been to several other Mellow Mushroom locations (Atlanta, Nashville, Huntsville, etc) and I can say that the one in Auburn is the absolute best. The service was usually good, the food was on-par, and the beer selection was fantastic.

Got to give Mellow Mushroom some love. I haven't had anything there I did not like. I usually get the calzones but will occasionally get a pizza. Recommend the Kosmic Karma. Great food, great service.

Believing consistancy is a devine virtue, I can say with certainty Mellow Mushroom in Auburn, AL is wonderful. Yes it is on the small size for the amount of customers it serves. However, they have a variety of beers exceeding the norm for the area. The staff is terrifically hippy for the most part. I recommend the slice specials.

Second different MM I have tried, the other was in some other Alabama college town. I really lucky place in my mind after the BCS. HA! Seriously, I know that this is a small chain, but you would never guess it. The two differnt I have been to each have their own character. Lots of options as far as pizza toppings, and they are quality. The crust is excellent. This pizza is well done and I would call unusual in one way, it is not heavy. I can count a handful of pizzas that I have had in the country that fit that description. This location is not as generous in size as the Tuscaloosa location, but it appears quite popular. I would rate the service as excellent...not even considering the fact that it is a college town. One thing though, If you go and they are full, you want to make sure that you find the clip board to get your name on. Walk to the register at the bar. Beer lovers, this is a great place for you in Alabama. High gravity beer is a recent "allowance" in Alabama, but these folks offer a number of great beer options. In the end, you have to ask yourself, what goes better with great pizza than good beer. I recommend.

One of my favorite spots in Auburn, for so many reasons. First, the food is delicious. From the "munchies", to the salads and soups, to the PIZZA...can't go wrong with anything. (Also, a lot of vegetarian options). Second, they have a fantastic beer selection. With over 20 beers on tap and a seemingly endless option of bottles/cans, you'll find something you love. And if you can't decide, ask the bartender. They always make great suggestions. Which brings me to number three....they have the best and friendliest service Auburn. Everyone is great! My favorite way to enjoy Mellow is posted up at the bar on any given day, enjoying a cold beer, and watching the game. This might just become your favorite local spot.

Great pizza, of course, but the beer selection is awesome and with decent prices. The pizza is a little more expensive than average but once you try it you will understand. They have a great atmosphere with a projector in the rear and TVs everywhere. Beware that they do fill up very quickly after football games and almost always have a 30 minute wait on Friday or Saturday. If you are looking for great pizza and a great beer selection this is definitely the place to go!

This is by far the best Mellow Mushroom I have ever been to. The service is great and the pizza is even better! FYI -- this is the only Mellow Mushroom I have ever been able to get a side of Siracha at. That right there gives it 5 stars on it's own. War Eagle!

I make Auburn's Mellow Mushroom my first stop every time I'm in the area. Their lunch specials are perfect (and fit my minuscule per diem budget) and I leave feeling full and happy. Their free Wi-Fi makes a working lunch possible (important when working on the road) and their awesome selection of drafts tops off a refreshing dinner. I highly recommend everything on the menu (what? I've never tried something I didn't like here) but whatever you order, order it with a side of beer cheese dip. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

The pizza and service here are excellent! We ordered half Magical Mushroom Mystery and half House Special. The waitress we had was named Kim and she did an amazing job of making sure we got everything we needed, especially the drinks we ordered. She was really nice enough to replace the sweet tea with a different soda when the tea wasn't satisfactory and gave us free refills to go. I absolutely think the service here is wonderful and the wait is totally worth it. The pizza comes out really hot and ordering the medium 14" pizza for two people is the perfect amount. UPDATE 10/9/2010: Tried the BBQ Chicken and a special limited pizza flavvor they had called the Muffletoni I think? So much better than the previous pizza flavors I had ordered. This time we ordered a small 10" which was just right for 2 people instead of the medium. The selection of beers is fantastic. It's always a new one every time for me. However, the wine department is basically your typically brands at the front of the grocery store display.

Great location. Awesome atmosphere on game weekends. Average pizza. Average salads, Great service. You come here for the location and to mingle with other Auburn fans, not to be wowed by the food.

The service staff are too bad, we stand at the entrance and the waitress walking around us even without any greeting words, we stand there for ten minutes, it's the worst thing I had got in a restaurant, maybe all waitress are blind...

I had a full size Righteous Portobello Reuben hoagie and a mushroom soup. Soup came first, tasted okay, but it's just as salty as you can't finish it. Hoagie is not recommend. It looks like sub, while it's kind of more fresh. They dipped in sesame on the whole crunchy bread optional on white or wheat. Mozilla cheese mixed with grilled mushroom and thousand islands sauce are good, but I supa dislike the sauerkraut which is a sort of chopped sour pickle. It really tastes like the Chinese sauerkraut made by Chinese cabbage. Honestly, the sour flavor much influenced the taste. Not a good match.

Don't get me wrong, the pizza is good. But I feel the prices are a little steep. If you go on pint nights, it's a lot more affordable. I walked out with a bill of over $20 for a calzone and beer. $6.50 Truck Stop Honey is just a little outrageous in my books.

  • Sarah R.

Who doesn't like looking at drug induced (Dr.Suess) art work on the walls while sipping cold beer and munching on yummy pizza? As a world traveler and a AU grad I can honestly say this is the best Pizza on earth! I have tried several Mellow locations (ATL, UVA, Baldwin County) and nothing compares to Auburn's Mellow Mushroom. When I was in college they would sell slices for $1.95 and I would make the lunch trek in between class to satisfy my hunger. Their calzones are huge and can certainly be turned into 2 meals. The salads are great as well as the pretzels (both the dessert and the garlic). I just wish Mellow would come out west. We need kick ass pizza out here!

I looked all over this town for some good food, what I found was mellow mushroom. I tried this pretzel bread-stick like item as an app. It was terrible, it may have been the worst "bread-stick" I have ever had (almost tasted like the dough out of the Pillsbury crescent rolls can, that is if the Pillsbury Dough-boy had a bad case of down syndrome and was baking his stuff in an oven converted from an old trashcan) The pizza just didnt cut it (I had the BBQ chicken), too much of that same crappy dough and nowhere close to CPK and the original BBQ chicken.

The go-to for great pizza in AU. Decent beer selection, friendly staff, unique ambiance and of course, premium pies. In my 15 years since moving to AL, I've yet to enter this restaurant without seeing a familiar face. Definitely an AU tradition :)

  • Elliott C.

Though Mellow Mushroom is in no way shape or form horrible pizza, I am unimpressed by the quality and price of the pizza here. The service in the Auburn location is particularly horrible, there has been multiple occasions where I might as well wait on my own table. I am still partial as well to NY style pizza and this is just not 100% cutting it for me.

  • Robert S.

My dining experience itself was pretty good. The pizza was good and I was fairly satisfied with the service as well, until it came to pay. We ordered a large white pizza with 2 toppings, which according to our calculations should have totaled about $20. Instead we get a bill for $37. Surprised, I ask the waitress why the cost is almost double what I was expecting. Extremely rudely she informs me that we ordered a GOURMET white pizza, saying that we specifically asked for it. I definitely never said "gourmet" at any time while ordering, but our waitress took the request for a "regular white pizza" as "gourmet". Additionally, the waitress did not do anything to try to remedy the situation. In fact, we got into a smaller altercation when I disputed the charge. I will not be dining here again; it's absurd to get charged exorbitant amounts for being unfamiliar with Mellow Mushroom's specific pizza nomenclature.

Max is the only one of this group who actually has taste buds. The rest of the people rating this place have probably grown up on Papa John's or Domino's Pizza and have never had real pizza in their life. This place is getting a bonus star because it is sadly the best of the pizza places in Auburn. It is close to campus and they have one of the better beer selections in town (which isn't saying anything, either). Anyone who gives this place more than 3 stars probably doesn't need to really have their reviews read because they have yet to have good food in their lives. This place is horrible. If all your friends are going there, then you might as well, but if you can convince them to go elsewhere, it's is worth the decision. Try to avoid going to the MM anywhere that you see it. There will always be better in any town you visit.

So if you're in Columbus and have a craving for pizza, this IS your place to go! Columbus doesn't have a lot of great pizza joints but this is the exception. Despite the fact that it's a chain it has a really nice beer selection including the hard to find Purple Haze (bottled) and some of the better finds in the area on tap.
