This is my BBQ of choice here in Auburn. The meats have a good smoked flavor and include chicken, smoked sausage, and of course pork. I'm not a fan of the sauce but I'm not a fan of anyone's sauce in Auburn. I prefer a Memphis / Kansas style as opposed to the thin Carolina style. Breakfast is amazing. Always start my day off with a sausage and egg biscuit or bacon and egg biscuit. Sweet Tea is always good. Sometimes, sometimes the tea might have tasted like they kept it out too long the night before. Overall, you cant go wrong with Byrons.

I eat here several times a week, not only because it's inexpensive, but also because the BBQ here is fantastic. I've had the chipped pork, the chicken, and the ribs, and they're all really delicious. I usually order the chipped pork, because ribs are only available on select days, and the chickens are fairly limited in quantity. However, the pork is still great. It comes in a large enough portion to fill up about anybody. Also, the chicken, when you can get it, is incredible. I was highly amused and surprised to open up my to-go box at home to find an entire half chicken in the box, plus the two very large sides for only 7 dollars! And speaking of sides, the fried potatoes are incredible. They're large cross-sections of potatoes made to order, always being hot and having a great crunchy texture. All in all, if you want great food, at a great price, in a great quatity, Byron's is for you! Eat up!

I love their sliced pork! Very friendly service and relaxing atmosphere.

Great spot for breakfast on game day. Great atmosphere, busy, with excited fans getting energized in anticipation for the big game. The smoked sausage links are some of the best and biscuits are good. Enjoy Byron's down home like Momma does it breakfast and your day will have the start it needs. Enjoy Byron's breakfast.

The two is for the bacon and biscuits. Eggs fried crispy oil way to hot. Potatos have no seasoning just lazy slices deep fried no taste no hashbrowns no thank you

This is a must stop for me every time I come back to Auburn to visit. Best BBQ around!

Excellent barbecue, but don't use the bathrooms if you can avoid it. They are filthy.
(5)Anna W.
Really good chipped pork as well.

So its Tuesday, and we go to Byron's. Their Tuesday special is chipped pork sand with one side and a drink for $5.. Hard to beat the price. Get the Fried potatoes. Avoid the Mac and cheese (made with powdered cheese... really?) Place is a little run down, but the sandwich and potatoes were really good. What's with ribs being served on Thurs, Fri and Sat only??? Fed my family of 4 for $20. I can't get out of Chick Filet for less than $25.

Great breakfast! Eggs, sausage, grits, etc!!!

For those of you that know me, you know that one of my favorite sayings is "Food is just food." Food to me, for the most part, is just sustenance. There is no dish, snack, dessert, or drink that I HAVE to HAVE. People have fixations with chocolate and other sweets and I just don't get it. This is why I can't relate when my wife says that she dreams about Indian food. Weird, yes. I still don't understand. This is why I bring up Byron's Smokehouse in Auburn, Alabama. I have eaten barbecue from Oregon to New York, from Florida to Texas. I've even had it in Europe (Give up. You have no shot)! Byron's is by far, bar none, the BEST barbecue in the world. Sorry Red, Hot, and Blue in DC. Sorry Dreamland (your Q sucks, by the way). Byron's is the the only food that is worth travelling 800 miles for. I don't know whether its the crack that they baste their ribs with, or the mind-numbingly good Brunswick stoo. It is just the best. Posted from my myspace page...

Ah Byron's ... you can smell the smoke from a good ways away. Barbeque so good that you only need a slice of white bread as a side. Good stuff. Byron's is one of those constants for this Auburn alum - the Supper Club may spread out like a Wal-Mart and they may get rid of the tiger paws painted on the highway marking the path to Jordan-Hare, but come heck or high water, Byron's will always be there with good food and friendly faces.

Arguably the best bbq restaurant in auburn. You get the best combination of quantity and quality at byrons. The side dishes are almost always fresh and done right. Pretty fast service and competent staff! I've had better bbq but i don't think there's any better in auburn

I agree with everyone else that this is great BBQ so I won't go into great detail...but I usually opt for another BBQ restaurant because the sauce is nothing to write home about. A good sauce is a must have for me personally. For me Mike & Ed's is my place even though I think Byron's BBQ is better.
(4)Shinan K.
The only thing I have had from here is their Boston Butt and it was great.
(4)No N.
Not the best barbecue in the world, not hardly, but it has its own flavor that it worth seeking out from time to time. Sandwiches are small, so you might want two. The fried potatoes (think thick, potato chip shaped fresh fries) are the reason I go here.

Came to Opelika found this place on yelp. Food was fantastic and I'm a hard core bbq snob. The girl at the counter was very helpful because she said the pork is served chipped, chopped, or slice where the menu only said chipped or sliced. She also asked if we wanted to put our own sauce on. To me that means they know how to do bbq, because places hide crap food under sauce. Service was so fast we didn't even leave the counter before it was ready. Chicken excellent, pork excellent, sausage excellent. Even the stew was real not a bag of mixed veggies in some crap red liquid.

We were in Auburn to take a look around, and decided to try and find a place to eat...on a Friday...at noon...in a huge university town. No parking to be found, so we headed away from the centre of action. After a "nearby" checked we saw Byron's which had good reviews. Inside was set up like any typical McDs or BK. It was very efficient, and the place was packed. Only downside was with the overhead menus for newbies like us since they were very spare with description. We had to ask some questions, but the staff was happy to oblige and did not appear rushed or bothered by this. Some small local differences such as a pulled pork sandwich for us was called a chipped pork sandwich, etc. Food came fair quick, appeared to be unlimited refills on the soda machine, and there was a non-stop flow of locals the whole time we were there. Not a place to go for an intimate meal, but for quick, tasty BBQ it was a good choice.

Yes, 3 stars.....I know I am deviating from other viewpoints. I found the BBQ to be average at best. I ordered the chopped pork with two sides (creamed corn & green beans) with a side of white bread (choice of cornbread or white with platters. I enjoyed the sides more than the pork. The pork was tender but fat attached to each and every bite was less than desirable. My father ordered the chipped pork (that is their version of pulled). Unfortunately, it looked like the meat was put through a meat grinder or a blender (wish I had snapped a picture). The other two members in our party both got vegetable platters. The only compliant I heard was about the fried okra (they said it was frozen). I would like to go back to Byron's to try their ribs. It's hard to make a solid opinion with just one visit. On brighter notes: I really liked their sauce and they have free refills. War Eagle!!

Best BBQ in Auburn. My gosh. Their chipped BBQ is my weakness. This is mine and my mom's go to lunch date spot! We love BBQ and this place is the best we've been to! Everyone is so friendly and you get your food so quickly! There are homemade desserts and let me just say that the pecan pie is something I have to get every time, even if I'm already full!
(5)Joe S.
Byron's is AMAZING. 1st class food, service, and friendly faces!
(5)Payton H.
The only truly unique barbecue place in Auburn. It's not a chain. Family owned and operated. Staff is always friendly and the fried okra is a real game changer.
(5)Sara W.
Best breakfast in town!! Forget Waffle House, go to Byron's and get you a link sausage egg and cheese biscuit. You won't regret it.
(5)Drew M.
I honestly feel that Byron's is the best BBQ in town. Their brunswick stew is the best i've had. They also have good specials for chipped sandwiches and sides. Excellent food!
(5)Austin H.
Great barbecue at a great price. Friendly staff. Really a great atmosphere come the fall on Fridays. Only barbecue I sample here in Auburn.
(5)Ee Vonn Y.
Go for their $5 combo, which consists of a special chipped sandwich, fried potatoes, and a drink. The salted fried potatoes tasted much better than the chipped sandwich. They were fresh, soft, and presented in hot, soft slices. The chipped sandwich was a little bland. Add slaw here. The environment has an old BBQ diner feel to it. It looks as musky on the inside as it does outside. I'd come back only for those mouthwatering potatoes.
(3)Kelley J.
I will be honest with you, the fried potatoes are amazing as well as all of their sides. I'm not giving 5 stars due to their insistence on paper plates and plastic forks. Also, their breakfast is pretty epic.

I don't have much time this morning, but my meal Saturday before the AU-Wazzu game was so fine, all I can say is: If Byron's ISN'T the best BBQ house in the state, take me to the one that IS. Consider this a Tip, a preface to a proper review one of these days.
(5)Russ M.
I only went here for breakfast, thus a 2 star rating because I am giving benefit of the doubt regarding their regular fare. But breakfast You could change the name to "Byron's SALT House" I have never tasted food so salty anywhere. YUCK! Also, minus points for counter service, styrofoam plates and coffee cups and plastic forks. Makes Waffle House look like a great breakfast option.

My Favorite place for Barbeque in Auburn. Ahhh.... a Byron's chipped pork sandwich and fries... brings back those college memories. It's different than other 'que you might be used to getting... but it's good.
(4)Adam F.
Best BBQ in Auburn, and it's not even close. The owner always comes and around and checks on you (When he's not tending to the smoke pit) to see how everything is. The meat here is the best in Auburn, but I like the hickory sauce from Mike N Eds better than the sauce options here. This is also the only place where you can get smoked sausage in Auburn, which is really good. Texans going to school at Auburn: this is your best option.
(4)John L.
Darn good BBQ. Nothing outstanding but nothing sub par. I'd certainly go back even tho BBQ style is not my fav.
(3)Joe S.
The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is the ribs still have the membrane on the back and the sweet tea was above avg. As for the taste of the ribs - great. The chipped pork is my wife's favorite pork in the state. Pulled pork sandwich is the perfect size and the Hot sauce is all you need on it. The fries are crazy good. Flat potato circles fried to a perfect crisp - I could eat these until I got sick. I am buying 5 pounds of BBQ for the Ga/Aub game and the gentlemen I spoke to was extremely nice and very customer friendly. Super sweet girls behind the counter. Very family friendly. If you are visiting from out of town for a ball game - you must take in this local establishment.

My favorite BBQ in the Auburn area. First, it has great prices, second; the service is incredibly friendly and efficient. Finally, and most importantly; the food is excellent. The chipped pork is great. Really good barbecue sauce. Overall it's worth visiting and revisiting.

BBQ is so personal and subjective that I won't call it the "best" of anything.....however I have probably eaten here more than 100 times since 1990 so that says something. If you can get em, the ribs are fantastic (used to be a Wednesday night thing). My go to order is 2 chipped pork sanwiches (hot sauce w/ pickles on it), Brunswick stew and sweet tea. Their sandwiches are very flavorful, but I can't understand why nobody mentions the Brunswick Stew. Rich tomato base, most of the flavor comes from the veggies, but still has a smoked flavor. (and no potatoes which is key) I have never had a better version. The current building is a former DQ, but you wouldn't recognize it. Full of Auburn memorabilia and very low key. If you are complaining about getting you're queue served on a styrofoam plate, well you just don't get it. You are not here for a wine pairing, you are here for quality BBQ, counter service, and consistently solid flavor from the owners all at reasonable prices.

Stopped in here as I was passing through Auburn. Never been before, but I would definitely come back. Good pork BBQ, solid sides and very friendly folks. Best BBQ I've had on my road trip through the south so far.
(4)Molly P.
This place is still the best BBQ in Auburn. We eat here once a week. They now have more sides to try! The fried okra and green beans are great. I still prefer the sandwich; my husband gets the sliced plate or ribs.
(4)Shanny B.
I prefer this BBQ over the others in Auburn. On Tuesdays they have a $5 special which includes a chipped sandwich, one side, and a drink. The fried potatoes are great. The sauce is a tad sweeter than other places and the slaw is scooped on top and not mixed in with the sauce. Yum!
(4)Tausif M.
Good food, weird location tho. I prefer barbque house but this place defiantly worth a look. Closes early.
