Dining options in Huntsville are a little lackluster at best, so when my grandparents suggested Japanese in nearby Athens, I was wary. However, Samurai's is certainly A-OK. While the atmosphere in a renovated Long John Silvers leaves something to be desired, the food is relatively fresh, the portions plentiful, the prices reasonable, and the service pleasant. We started with several orders of spring rolls (okay) and a order of calamari (very good). The hibachi entrees were a popular pick, and the protein portions in them were generous - an order of shrimp were the large variety with maybe 15 pieces or more. The fried rice was fragrant, salty, and stuffed with veggies, pretty much all you can ask for. A chicken tempura bento box was perhaps the best food value of the night, coming with salad, soup, a California roll, a spring roll, and generous portions of tempura fried chicken tenders and assorted veggies for around $12. My sushi was about as good as you'd expect sushi to be in the middle of Alabama -solid grocery store level sushi. Enough to satisfy a sushi craving, but I wouldn't recommend venturing much further than your basic tuna or salmon rolls as far as raw fish goes. There aren't many places in this area of Alabama that I'd gladly return to for dinner, but I'll happily add Samurai to the list.

The tuna sashimi is fresh! Most important...there is fast friendly service as well... they knew we wanted a booth and promptly cleaned one for us after the other patrons left. There's nothing to eat along interstate 65 between birmingham and nashville that isnt a chain. This is right off 65. We had seaweed salad, edamame, hot tea, tuna sashimi roll, and pink dragon roll. All under 30 bucks. Definitely our midway stop between florida and tennessee from now on. To the gentleman rater concerned with the portions... its a japanese restaurant not a Chinese trough. Order the titan roll for a larger portion. It was huge as the waiter passed by with it. P.s. dear yelp, could you please include a 'chain restaurant' filter on your filter options? That would be awesome. Support people owned establishments. Not corporations... i own a small business too.

I am amazed by all the good reviews. Seems its the only place in Athens to get Japanese. You all need to get out more. If you go here be prepared to only order sushi. Vegtables were way over cooked. Chicken smelled like urine and portions were crazy inconsistant. Any dont bother asking any questions from the server. Basic understanding of english. Just point and grunt at the menu and you w8ll be fine.

Samurai Steakhouse really is one of the best places to eat sushi. It's a hole in a the wall places that gives I Heart Sushi in madison every bit a run for its money. I have eaten here 3 times and every time the sushi has been superb.

I have been here several times and it is a great spot for a nice Japanese meal in Athens. Service is great and food is good quality. Very different from the other nearby restaurants.

I'm very surprised that I didn't discover this place sooner . Very nice atmosphere . Great service and food at a reasonable price. Their salad dressing and hibachi sauce (whatever it is) is delicious .. I'm going back next week just to try something different .. hmm good

The ONLY Japanese Steakhouse in Athens. I have eaten here many times and I am always pleased. The Filet and scallop hibachi is very good. i also get the calamari, which I highly recommend. The crunchy tuna sushi roll is also really good!

There is no show, but it is the first Sushi bar in Athens and it is really good. I usually get sushi when we go there and it is of good quality. My wife get the chicken and out its always good.

If you don't mind missing the show at most Japanese steak houses, you will enjoy this. The price and the food is great.

Went there for lunch on a weekday. The place was dead. Service & food were good. Ordered their lunch habachi special (bonus: didn't have to sit at the grill and wait to get habachi food). It came with rice, fry vegetable, meat (shrimp), soup and salad; the usual. They were good, nothing fancy but still edible. The waitor was nice and tentative. Definately will return.

Excellent restaurant -- great food, great service, so glad there is a restaurant of this quality in Athens. The decor and atmosphere are great, and the food is fantastic! Great sushi, bento boxes are great -- they have the best, lightest shrimp tempura I've ever had -- and the hibachi dishes are excellent, too. Highly recommend!!!
